:00:21. > :00:23.losing to Munster A by a single point in the British

:00:24. > :00:27.Hopes were high when Jersey scored the first try just over

:00:28. > :00:34.An adrenaline-fuelled 15 minutes followed with Reds

:00:35. > :00:42.Munster found their stride shortly before half time and continued

:00:43. > :00:44.to make progress leading by one point right up until

:00:45. > :00:53.Inflation has doubled in Guernsey, rising to a three year high.

:00:54. > :01:00.The latest official figures show the overall cost of living rose

:01:01. > :01:03.by almost 2.5% in the year to March -

:01:04. > :01:09.In particular, increasing fuel, leisure and household service

:01:10. > :01:13.prices have made life in Guernsey more expensive.

:01:14. > :01:16.And if you exclude mortgage payments then the cost of living has

:01:25. > :01:29.Michael Charles Brown, pictured here arriving

:01:30. > :01:35.at the Royal Court this morning, is charged with killing

:01:36. > :01:37.John Stephen McCarthy at Vauxhall Gardens in St Helier

:01:38. > :01:45.He denied murder but entered a guilty plea to the lesser charge

:01:46. > :01:48.of manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

:01:49. > :01:54.A date for his trial will be set in six weeks.

:01:55. > :01:56.Police are reassuring islanders there's no significant risk

:01:57. > :01:59.to the community despite a rise in the number of sex offenders

:02:00. > :02:07.A report from the group that oversees dangerous and complex

:02:08. > :02:10.criminals shows there are now 116 registered sex

:02:11. > :02:14.offenders in the island, most of them living in the community.

:02:15. > :02:17.The Head of Crime Services says even the most serious offenders can

:02:18. > :02:27.You can never completely eliminate risk, but the public protection

:02:28. > :02:30.arrangements that we have in place here are very effective.

:02:31. > :02:43.There is a real commitment from all those involved to work

:02:44. > :02:45.together to work with offenders to minimise any risk

:02:46. > :02:50.Visit Jersey want their Guernsey counterparts to enter

:02:51. > :02:53.into an official agreement to market the Channel Islands together.

:02:54. > :02:55.The tourism body hopes by promoting island hopping holidays

:02:56. > :02:57.more tourists will be enticed from Europe.

:02:58. > :02:59.But is it an idea shared by Guernsey, and can it work

:03:00. > :03:07.They both have beautiful beaches, sites of historical interest

:03:08. > :03:11.and iconic characters, but where Jersey and Guernsey used

:03:12. > :03:14.to compete for tourists in the past, they are now marketing them

:03:15. > :03:16.together, to attract European customers.

:03:17. > :03:20.Visit Jersey want to make their joint approach more official

:03:21. > :03:22.and have drafted a Memorandum of Understanding, but Guernsey have

:03:23. > :03:29.It's really good to think that Jersey would like to be so close

:03:30. > :03:32.to us and we would like to work with Jersey wherever possible,

:03:33. > :03:35.However, in our heart, we have to look after Guernsey

:03:36. > :03:37.and Guernsey tourism, but wherever possible

:03:38. > :03:39.if we are stronger with Jersey, then we will definitely

:03:40. > :03:43.But can they continue to market the delights of each other if one

:03:44. > :03:51.Let's continue to work well together.

:03:52. > :03:54.We're already in a sense framing that in the actions in the joint

:03:55. > :03:56.marketing that we are doing in Germany and elsewhere.

:03:57. > :03:59.So, a piece of paper is a piece of paper.

:04:00. > :04:03.It is what we do in the marketplace that is really important.

:04:04. > :04:06.But island-hopping holidays can only work if you can actually get

:04:07. > :04:11.A number of Air Berlin routes connecting Europe

:04:12. > :04:13.to the Channel Islands were lost in 2016, impacting this

:04:14. > :04:20.Tour operators say it is vital these are re-established.

:04:21. > :04:25.If people can't get here, they can't stay here.

:04:26. > :04:30.So, let's get working on securing more of those routes back

:04:31. > :04:34.from Germany and exploring other opportunities, as has been indicated

:04:35. > :04:36.from Scandinavia and elsewhere, because they are absolutely critical

:04:37. > :04:44.Jersey and Guernsey will still continue to compete for UK tourism,

:04:45. > :04:48.but how their partnership will flourish under

:04:49. > :04:50.the Channel Island flag to Europe, with or without an official

:04:51. > :04:58.agreement, will not be known until next year.

:04:59. > :05:00.75 years ago today, three Jewish women were forced

:05:01. > :05:03.to leave Guernsey by the occupying German forces.

:05:04. > :05:07.They would eventually die in Auschwitz.

:05:08. > :05:13.For many years their story had been a sensitive and even taboo subject.

:05:14. > :05:16.From September schoolchildren will be taught about the women

:05:17. > :05:18.and their story, which became clearer

:05:19. > :05:19.in the 90s when a file came to

:05:20. > :05:40.I realise it was a cause of embarrassment for the officials

:05:41. > :05:43.in office then, some of whom are still living on the island.

:05:44. > :05:46.I thought it was easy for them to forget about it,

:05:47. > :05:50.And if you'd like to hear more about the story of those three women

:05:51. > :05:52.there's a link to a longer documentary on our

:05:53. > :05:56.After a shorter working week the weekend is here.

:05:57. > :06:03.Now for that all important weather, David Braine has your forecast.

:06:04. > :06:11.More settled and quiet weather this weekend. It will change next week.

:06:12. > :06:16.Fine and dry for Saturday and Sunday. Cloud and light winds. There

:06:17. > :06:21.should also be sunshine. High pressure is beginning to weaken. It

:06:22. > :06:24.is travelling further out into the Atlantic over the next few days and

:06:25. > :06:32.eventually becomes established away from us. High pressure still close

:06:33. > :06:36.by until Sunday. By Monday this weather front introduces cold a

:06:37. > :06:43.clear, arctic air, lower temperatures, and also the chance of

:06:44. > :06:46.some rain. Tonight the clouds may cross the Channel towards us. It

:06:47. > :06:50.will break up at the same time. It will be a cold night. Temperatures

:06:51. > :06:59.will get down to 5 degrees by tomorrow boring. Tomorrow is the

:07:00. > :07:03.reasonable day. Patchy cloud should break up quite nicely to allow the

:07:04. > :07:11.sunshine to come through. The cloud quite thick in places. That is the

:07:12. > :07:18.forecast as we head into Sunday and Monday. Both these dry with sunny

:07:19. > :07:29.spells. All change on Tuesday. In a second the UK forecast.

:07:30. > :07:37.marathon. Here is the outlook for the weather for the next few days

:07:38. > :07:43.and Helen Willetts has the National forecast.

:07:44. > :07:53.While unusual to see snow in May, it will be a shock to the system. We've

:07:54. > :07:56.seen some interesting contrast. 19 degrees cost is in Scotland in the

:07:57. > :08:04.sunshine today. In the sunshine only 11. The differences we are behind a

:08:05. > :08:07.cold weather front. Seeing a stepped down in temperatures. The cold air

:08:08. > :08:11.filtering sound so there will be a widespread ground frost across the

:08:12. > :08:18.country. The week weather front still with us so we could cheat

:08:19. > :08:22.patchy mist and fog. The best chance of seeing the meteor shower

:08:23. > :08:26.overnight will be in those clear skies further north. A better chance

:08:27. > :08:29.for south overnight. We start Saturday morning with the line of

:08:30. > :08:33.cloud, the weather front from Northern Ireland through Wales, the

:08:34. > :08:38.Midlands coming the south-east. The clear air following the weather

:08:39. > :08:39.front. Slow to weaken and showers may follow. It's
