:00:15. > :00:19.Jersey Reds miss the chance to make history by just one point.

:00:20. > :00:24.Good evening and welcome to the late news from BBC

:00:25. > :00:26.Channel Islands, I'm Charlie McArdle.

:00:27. > :00:29.A charity milestone means children from the Channel Islands will have

:00:30. > :00:36.access to a new trauma and emergency department in Southampton.

:00:37. > :00:42.When your child is in an accident, you want them to get the best care

:00:43. > :00:45.they possibly can. This trauma centre will give them that.

:00:46. > :00:49.It may not have been the result the Jersey Reds were after -

:00:50. > :00:51.but their narrow defeat in the British and Irish Cup bodes

:00:52. > :00:59.In a nail-biting final in Cork, the cup was snatched from Jersey's

:01:00. > :01:03.And not to confuse you - but the Reds were playing in blue!

:01:04. > :01:18.Our Sports Editor Tim Pryor was in Cork...

:01:19. > :01:21.To lose any final is gutting but to lose like this is cruel

:01:22. > :01:24.at the end of the best season in the club's long history.

:01:25. > :01:27.Jersey got the best possible start with a try after just one minute.

:01:28. > :01:30.That was before Munster knew what had hit them...

:01:31. > :01:33.But the hosts scored tries of their own either side

:01:34. > :01:38.Hardy with a try for the Jersey Reds in the second half.

:01:39. > :01:41.But it was Munster who dominated as the game wore on,

:01:42. > :01:43.despite brilliant support from the fans who travelled

:01:44. > :01:54.A penalty ten minutes from the end gave the Irish side

:01:55. > :01:57.the victory and the cup by the narrowest of margins.

:01:58. > :01:59.To come away to Munster, a quality team, I think the boys

:02:00. > :02:03.rolled up their sleeves and put in a real effort and we can

:02:04. > :02:10.They can look back with pride on a season that saw their highest

:02:11. > :02:18.ever finish in the league and this memorable run to the cup final.

:02:19. > :02:22.It has been a massive season for the fellas.

:02:23. > :02:24.I am hugely proud of everyone of them.

:02:25. > :02:30.It is not the fairy tale ending that we wanted but those things

:02:31. > :02:38.An occasion to remember for the players, staff

:02:39. > :02:46.and supporters but no luck of the Irish for Jersey in Cork.

:02:47. > :02:50.Three men have been charged with importing 27 kilos

:02:51. > :02:52.of cannabis resin into Jersey - after being stopped

:03:03. > :03:05.During a magistrates hearing today, the court was told the cannabis had

:03:06. > :03:19.The men will appear in the Royal Court in six weeks time.

:03:20. > :03:22.Parents in Guernsey are being urged to make sure their children's

:03:23. > :03:24.vaccinations against measles are up to date.

:03:25. > :03:26.It follows an outbreak of the disease in parts

:03:27. > :03:27.of Europe, including France, Portugal and Italy.

:03:28. > :03:32.A similar warning has been issued in Jersey.

:03:33. > :03:35.I think it is very important that parents ensure that their children's

:03:36. > :03:41.In Guernsey we know that MMR coverage is 96.1%,

:03:42. > :03:46.which is above the World Health Organization target of 95%.

:03:47. > :03:52.Looking at what is happening, we would not expect significant

:03:53. > :03:56.A Jersey politician has raised concerns that thousands of pounds

:03:57. > :03:58.of maintenance cuts to the island's parks and gardens

:03:59. > :04:07.Senator Sarah Ferguson claims the infrastructure departments

:04:08. > :04:09.savings can be seen with the loss of many plants.

:04:10. > :04:16.The iconic castle may attract people to Gorey but the flowers around it

:04:17. > :04:22.Colour that is now maintained by a private company as part of

:04:23. > :04:24.government cuts. I think the garden is very beautiful

:04:25. > :04:31.and a lot of colour. They are not as good

:04:32. > :04:34.as they used to be. We have been coming

:04:35. > :04:39.here for several years. They have always been

:04:40. > :04:42.absolutely beautiful and well cared for and this year,

:04:43. > :04:45.they look as though And that is the concern

:04:46. > :04:49.of this politician. The Rose Garden at Coronation Park

:04:50. > :04:55.has now been removed. The upkeep of the park

:04:56. > :04:57.hasn't been outsourced, Sarah Ferguson believes budget cuts

:04:58. > :04:59.are to blame. She is worried about the impact it

:05:00. > :05:02.could have on visitors. Part of the attraction for visitors

:05:03. > :05:10.are our floral displays and our parks and gardens -

:05:11. > :05:13.if we start lowering the standards then we

:05:14. > :05:15.are affecting tourism. But the department behind it says

:05:16. > :05:19.the beds had to go because rabbits decimate the rose plants,

:05:20. > :05:24.not because of the savings of ?200,000 they have

:05:25. > :05:26.to make every year. But is not to the detriment

:05:27. > :05:29.of the long-term park. All of our main parks

:05:30. > :05:35.are green flag accredited. We aim to maintain

:05:36. > :05:45.that for the future. That will see these patches

:05:46. > :05:52.of soil will be turned The department says they will keep

:05:53. > :05:54.an eye on the standard of all green areas to ensure they are nice for

:05:55. > :05:57.the visitors to enjoy them. As the murder investigation

:05:58. > :05:59.continues in Jersey into the death of Ana Rebelo, the Portuguese

:06:00. > :06:03.and Church community has raised enough money for her family

:06:04. > :06:07.to take her body home to be buried. St Thomas's Catholic Church started

:06:08. > :06:17.the collection after hearing the family's wishes to bury

:06:18. > :06:19.the 57-year-old next to her father. A memorial service will also be held

:06:20. > :06:29.there tomorrow night. The whole thing was unexpected but

:06:30. > :06:32.people came together, the family were all here yesterday for Mass.

:06:33. > :06:36.I've been supporting them and tomorrow evening we are having a

:06:37. > :06:41.special memorial Mass without her body present. That will take place

:06:42. > :06:45.at 6pm tomorrow evening, which will be open to everyone to pray for her

:06:46. > :06:46.before her body is taken to Portugal.

:06:47. > :06:49.For many parents of seriously ill children in the Channel Islands,

:06:50. > :06:51.the expert facilities at Southampton General have provided

:06:52. > :06:54.Now an appeal to create a new Children's Trauma

:06:55. > :06:56.and Emergency Department has reached a big milestone - it s

:06:57. > :06:59.raised its first million - helped by a charity set up

:07:00. > :07:01.by the actors Sarah Parish and James Murray in memory

:07:02. > :07:16.Fresh from our screens in ITV's Broadchurch,

:07:17. > :07:21.actor Sarah Parish enjoys plenty of work and a high profile,

:07:22. > :07:24.but it's this role which is closest to her heart,

:07:25. > :07:30.It was the tragic loss of their baby daughter Ella-Jayne which has

:07:31. > :07:33.closely linked the couple to Southampton General.

:07:34. > :07:35.Sarah and James see a new hospital as her legacy.

:07:36. > :07:39.When your child is in an accident, you want them to get the best care

:07:40. > :07:41.that they possibly can and this trauma centre will

:07:42. > :07:45.They have specialist x-ray rooms and they will be

:07:46. > :07:54.Anything a child needs when they really are critically ill,

:07:55. > :07:57.They will have the best chance for survival.

:07:58. > :08:00.We provide the major trauma service for this region and we deal

:08:01. > :08:02.with all the seriously injured children from nine counties

:08:03. > :08:05.and children come over from the Channel Islands.

:08:06. > :08:08.We need to have an environment where the skills that the people have

:08:09. > :08:15.The building is an empty shell at the moment and there

:08:16. > :08:25.To transform this area is going to take a lot more money.

:08:26. > :08:27.The search is on for major donors, individuals or businesses,

:08:28. > :08:30.prepared to donate not tens but hundreds of thousands of pounds

:08:31. > :08:40.in return for naming rights, a plaque above a door.

:08:41. > :08:45.There's still ?1.5 million to race in just one year.

:08:46. > :08:57.Thank you. Good evening, last week we talked about the potential for

:08:58. > :09:02.more rain this week, and I think it is possible. Two things are

:09:03. > :09:06.happening this week, more unsettled and certainly colder than it has

:09:07. > :09:10.been recently. There will be sunshine but there is also the

:09:11. > :09:14.chance of heavy showers turning up. High pressure is moving into the

:09:15. > :09:17.middle of the Atlantic. A run of northerly wind striking across us.

:09:18. > :09:21.One weather front passes by tonight, One weather front passes by tonight,

:09:22. > :09:31.some spots position somewhere the middle of France in the middle of

:09:32. > :09:36.the day tomorrow. On Wednesday, not a lot of change, some showers, dry

:09:37. > :09:40.weather, and on Thursday and Friday, whether France around this top area

:09:41. > :09:44.of high pressure. Bringing in less cold air, temperatures recover as we

:09:45. > :09:47.head towards the end of the week. With high pressure coming closer,

:09:48. > :09:52.rainfall amounts will be tailing off in the second half of the week.

:09:53. > :10:00.Northerly winds bring cold air across us, there will be a few

:10:01. > :10:06.showers out this weather front as it passes by overnight and then for

:10:07. > :10:11.some time, clear skies, temperatures for 5 degrees, possibly three on the

:10:12. > :10:15.larger islands. Tomorrow, sunny spells and the chance of a few

:10:16. > :10:20.showers, they will be isolated, a large part of the day drive. Not

:10:21. > :10:25.especially warm with a brisk and chilly northerly wind, 10 degrees

:10:26. > :10:30.maximum temperatures. That cold air moves into parts of Spain, Portugal

:10:31. > :10:34.and Central France. Lower temperatures when it moves through.

:10:35. > :10:37.For the rest of the week, the chance of showers and gradually getting

:10:38. > :10:41.warmer by the time we get to Friday. Have a good night.

:10:42. > :10:44.Nice to see it getting warmer towards the bank holiday weekend.

:10:45. > :10:46.That's your news this Monday evening, BBC Radio Guernsey

:10:47. > :10:48.and Jersey will be first with with your local news,

:10:49. > :10:52.weather and travel from six tomorrow morning and I'll be back at 6:30pm

:10:53. > :11:02.tomorrow night, until then have a good evening.

:11:03. > :11:04.course, there'll be the threat of some rain. More with the national

:11:05. > :11:11.forecast now. Good evening. It's been turning

:11:12. > :11:14.colder from the north so far today. It's been cold enough for

:11:15. > :11:18.significant snow in northern Scotland. This was mid afternoon.

:11:19. > :11:24.More recently it's been blowing around over the tops of the

:11:25. > :11:27.mountains. Snow in April not necessarily unusual but it's usually

:11:28. > :11:32.unwelcome. The colder air coming in behind the front which clears

:11:33. > :11:34.towards the near continent, opening the floodgates to this Coldstream of
