:00:14. > :00:15.Good evening, I'm Charlie McArdle. for the news where you are.

:00:16. > :00:17.A cutting-edge defence system has been installed

:00:18. > :00:20.at Guernsey Prison, in a world first.

:00:21. > :00:22.Drones are often used across the globe

:00:23. > :00:24.to illegally smuggle items to prisoners,

:00:25. > :00:29.but Guernsey Prison will now be able to combat the problem.

:00:30. > :00:31.The Skyfence system seizes control of the drone

:00:32. > :00:34.if it comes within certain airspace.

:00:35. > :00:38.Mike Wilkins went to see the system in action.

:00:39. > :00:40.This remarkable footage shows a drone being used

:00:41. > :00:47.It's unclear how big a problem it is.

:00:48. > :00:50.The only drones they catch are the ones that crash.

:00:51. > :00:55.prison chiefs are leading the way in tackling this aerial menace.

:00:56. > :00:57.You're about to see a drone stopped mid-flight.

:00:58. > :01:04.The system hacks the frequency of the drone, halts it

:01:05. > :01:08.and sends it back to where it came from.

:01:09. > :01:19.The aircraft is disconnected and it is in return to home mode.

:01:20. > :01:21.And drones are getting smaller all the time.

:01:22. > :01:33.Would this system cope with a swarm of tiny drones?

:01:34. > :01:35.When any type of drone is detected, the whole perimeter fence

:01:36. > :01:38.comes alive so no drones can cross the fence at all.

:01:39. > :01:44.to be using a drone-detecting fence, called Skyfence.

:01:45. > :01:46.It's part of a ?1.7 million security upgrade,

:01:47. > :01:50.but some of it has come free of charge.

:01:51. > :01:53.We bought the detector package which told us there were drones

:01:54. > :01:55.within the prison but didn't stop those coming in,

:01:56. > :01:58.and this new technology we were offered as an upgrade,

:01:59. > :02:02.The payback hopefully will be that other prisons will see it

:02:03. > :02:08.and both the prison and the company will benefit.

:02:09. > :02:11.The anti-drone system will be activated at the end of next month.

:02:12. > :02:17.And experts tell me it could also be applied

:02:18. > :02:25.over whether a new phone app will be beneficial.

:02:26. > :02:28.The Uber-style system, due to be launched in the next month,

:02:29. > :02:31.will allow you to hail a taxi without going to the ranks.

:02:32. > :02:34.But are there enough rank taxis to go round?

:02:35. > :02:40.especially at the weekend and if it's raining.

:02:41. > :02:43.But a new app that lets you hail a taxi from your phone

:02:44. > :02:46.could make it easier to get from A to B.

:02:47. > :02:49.It's for rank taxis, and the app lets you use your phone

:02:50. > :02:53.to see what taxis are in your area and book them.

:02:54. > :02:56.We've got to move forward now, haven't we, regarding these apps?

:02:57. > :03:02.If they can get an app together, I guess,

:03:03. > :03:04.something quick and easy, better than ringing, yeah, definitely.

:03:05. > :03:09.I mean, I spent some time in the UK, living in Edinburgh in Scotland,

:03:10. > :03:13.and it was so convenient to be able to hail taxis just on the street

:03:14. > :03:15.rather than having to find a taxi rank.

:03:16. > :03:18.While they wouldn't appear on camera, some drivers have told us

:03:19. > :03:20.they don't think the app will work, and fear it will

:03:21. > :03:23.take taxis away from the ranks they're supposed to serve.

:03:24. > :03:24.But their concerns have been rejected.

:03:25. > :03:31.and bringing the taxis into the 21st century.

:03:32. > :03:34.It's important for the public to know

:03:35. > :03:38.and by that I mean we couldn't take endless bookings.

:03:39. > :03:40.Our priority is still obviously to service the ranks.

:03:41. > :03:44.This isn't the first time a taxi app has been introduced in Jersey.

:03:45. > :03:47.Four years ago, an app for private cabs was introduced and the States

:03:48. > :03:51.thinks the time is right for this one for rank vehicles.

:03:52. > :03:54.We're waiting for the Jersey Taxi Drivers' Association to demonstrate

:03:55. > :03:57.the app to us but I understand that they're focusing on immediate hire,

:03:58. > :04:00.so those are people who'd otherwise walk to the ranks,

:04:01. > :04:02.so you're actually giving the customer a choice.

:04:03. > :04:04.The States is now working with rank taxi drivers

:04:05. > :04:12.to review how the service and the app work.

:04:13. > :04:14.Four men in Guernsey have been arrested in connection

:04:15. > :04:17.with the collapse of the Providence Investment Fund.

:04:18. > :04:21.Most of the ?37 million put into the scheme by investors

:04:22. > :04:28.The arrests were made yesterday at four separate island addresses

:04:29. > :04:31.in connection with suspected fraud offences.

:04:32. > :04:35.The men were bailed, pending further inquiries.

:04:36. > :04:38.Guernsey and Jersey's footballers go head to head this weekend

:04:39. > :04:46.with the Reds beating the Greens for the last two finals.

:04:47. > :04:48.Following last year's game in Jersey,

:04:49. > :04:51.where bottles were thrown, an alcohol-free zone's

:04:52. > :04:54.been put in place at Guernsey's Footes Lane.

:04:55. > :05:04.and are desperate to get their hands back on the vase.

:05:05. > :05:11.We have to make sure we turn up for the game on Saturday. Last two

:05:12. > :05:17.years, we not completed, we have not battled and represented the shirt

:05:18. > :05:20.with the fight you need to win. I think the players that have played

:05:21. > :05:25.in the last two years have accepted that, they have reminded themselves

:05:26. > :05:27.of that, and that has been key to our preparation going into Saturday.

:05:28. > :05:30.And there will be full match commentary on BBC Radio Guernsey

:05:31. > :05:32.and Jersey tomorrow on Sportscene from 1pm.

:05:33. > :05:38.We've a had a little rain this evening,

:05:39. > :05:41.but is it set to continue as we head into the weekend?

:05:42. > :05:47.Let's find out - David Braine has your forecast.

:05:48. > :05:53.Hello, good evening. I think we have got a reasonable weekend ahead of

:05:54. > :05:57.us. There is some rain before the show is for the next few hours, then

:05:58. > :06:01.some overnight rain on Saturday night. Between the two, for a good

:06:02. > :06:05.part of the weekend, there are sunny spells and it is predominantly dry.

:06:06. > :06:11.Just slightly fresher feel to the air on Sunday. You can see the

:06:12. > :06:14.reason for the sharp showers we have been seeing, it is moving

:06:15. > :06:18.northwards, it is an area of low pressure that moves north and east

:06:19. > :06:22.overnight tonight and into the early hours of the morning. There is

:06:23. > :06:26.another weather system coming in, but that does not reach us until the

:06:27. > :06:31.end of the day tomorrow. Most of Saturday is dry and breezy with the

:06:32. > :06:34.winds freshening. There is another one which is not getting to us until

:06:35. > :06:43.Sunday night. Sunday is also the dominant read/write with some

:06:44. > :06:47.sunshine as well. It will become dry with some clear sky overnight and

:06:48. > :06:49.temperatures down to 10 degrees, 15 Fahrenheit. Tomorrow, some sunshine

:06:50. > :06:54.through the morning, but it will cloud over. A lot of medium and

:06:55. > :06:58.upper-level cloud arriving later in the day. There is the chance of a

:06:59. > :07:03.light passing shower, but most of the day is dry before it eventually

:07:04. > :07:07.becomes rather cloudy, and 16 will be the top cabbage. Bright and dry

:07:08. > :07:09.on Sunday, but all change as we move into next week, and warmer by

:07:10. > :07:12.Tuesday. Have a nice weekend. Throughout the weekend,

:07:13. > :07:16.the BBC will keep you up to date with your local news,

:07:17. > :07:18.weather and travel. There'll be regular bulletins

:07:19. > :07:20.and any breaking news on BBC Radio Guernsey and Jersey

:07:21. > :07:23.from 6 in the morning. Also online - find your

:07:24. > :07:42.local page at bbc.co.uk. A bit of a mixed bag earlier on

:07:43. > :07:48.today, some of us were cloudy with rain. This is the view from one of

:07:49. > :07:52.our weather watchers in Cornwall. But in the Highlands of Scotland, it

:07:53. > :07:57.was completely different, find, sunny and warm. The satellite and

:07:58. > :08:03.radar picture shows the variety of weather we have had. It brightened

:08:04. > :08:04.up into the afternoon, early
