:01:30. > :01:34.a meeting with the Transport Minister Theresa Villiers at
:01:34. > :01:38.Bombardier in Derby. They have been hoping that she would announce some
:01:38. > :01:42.new work for the factory. She did not. But she did is express
:01:42. > :01:46.confidence and the company's future. -- but she did express.
:01:46. > :01:51.Facing the cameras, the Transport Minister spoke to the media after
:01:51. > :01:54.facing Bombardier and their supporters in Derby today. Without
:01:54. > :01:59.new work, it could be the end of the factory.
:01:59. > :02:03.Are you prepared to see this plant closed down? I will be fighting to
:02:03. > :02:06.keep this plant healthy and flourishing and that is why I am
:02:06. > :02:10.here, talking about the opportunities which I hope they
:02:10. > :02:13.will have in the months and years to come. Union leaders were hoping
:02:13. > :02:20.for announcements about new orders in the wake of the loss of the
:02:20. > :02:24.Thameslink contract and 1,400 jobs in Derby. None came. What is the
:02:24. > :02:33.point of her coming? They are just play with people's emotions and
:02:33. > :02:37.livelihoods. To go back in there now until -- and tell people she
:02:37. > :02:42.has got things, it is wasted. everything she has spoken about, we
:02:42. > :02:51.have heard before. She has done nothing to allay any fears for
:02:51. > :02:55.losses for our members at all. two coming contract I especially --
:02:55. > :03:00.are especially important. They are a �200 million contract from
:03:00. > :03:04.Southern Rail and a �120 million contract from cross country. It is
:03:04. > :03:08.claimed decisions have to be made on those contracts and quick. The
:03:08. > :03:12.club is ticking as far as Bombardier is concerned.
:03:12. > :03:16.Government must understand the urgency of dealing with these
:03:16. > :03:20.contracts and getting them out to tender as quickly as possible.
:03:20. > :03:30.Virtually all our engineers today are doing work that Bombardier has
:03:30. > :03:30.
:03:30. > :03:36.brought in to write the rest of the world. We cannot sustain that for
:03:36. > :03:40.much longer. No hope of reopening the Thameslink contract, too costly
:03:41. > :03:48.and too much delay, the minister said. Leaving behind an uncertain
:03:48. > :03:51.factory future. Next, a jury has heard how a
:03:51. > :03:59.householder who was attacked by an armed gang stabbed one of them to
:03:59. > :04:04.death. Napoleon Sharman said they came to his flat armed with
:04:04. > :04:12.baseball bats, and two people have gone on trial accused of aggravated
:04:12. > :04:16.The court heard this was all fronted by a domestic dispute that
:04:16. > :04:19.got completely out of hand. Napoleon Sharman had a turbulent
:04:19. > :04:25.relationship with his ex-girlfriend, so much that they both complained
:04:25. > :04:29.to the police and both wanted custody of their younger son. It
:04:29. > :04:32.all came to a head, the court was told, last Christmas after Napoleon
:04:32. > :04:38.Sharman sent an abusive text message. Three weeks later, he got
:04:38. > :04:42.a knock on the door at his flat. The court heard three men burst in
:04:42. > :04:46.and use baseball bat to give him a terrifying vicious beating so he
:04:46. > :04:53.used a knife to fend them off. Shortly afterwards, a man called
:04:53. > :04:58.Dean Lloyd was found bleeding to death outside. Today, two of
:04:58. > :05:01.delight's friends were accused of aggravated burglary. These are
:05:01. > :05:09.cousins of Mr Sharman's ex- girlfriends and both deny attacking
:05:09. > :05:13.him. Napoleon Sharman gave evidence but we were told he was initially
:05:13. > :05:16.arrested as well and questioned with regard to Dean Lloyd's death
:05:16. > :05:26.but the court was told he was never charged because it happened inside
:05:26. > :05:32.his property and that meant his Still to come on the programme, two

:05:59. > :06:06.Thousands of student flats have been built there in the past few
:06:06. > :06:10.Love it or hate it, this is one of the latest student housing blocks
:06:10. > :06:15.going up in Leicester and this is what it will look like when it has
:06:15. > :06:19.finished. 22 storeys high and home to hundreds of students. For a
:06:19. > :06:24.while at least, it will be one of the loft developments in the City
:06:24. > :06:27.as the council has temporarily stopped any planning applications
:06:28. > :06:31.for student development. We have a lot of people living in these areas
:06:31. > :06:35.who have lived there many years and we want to get a proper balance
:06:35. > :06:39.between the needs of those residents and the needs of this did
:06:39. > :06:46.and. Leicester is home to around 30,000 students and over the past
:06:46. > :06:50.few years, demand for housing has soared. In 2009/10, 987 flats were
:06:50. > :06:56.granted planning permission. Each one can house up to four students.
:06:56. > :07:01.The following year, that rose to just over 1,100 and November this
:07:01. > :07:07.year up to that date, 739 flats have been granted. For Stuart
:07:07. > :07:11.Bailey, the step is one step too far. It does profound damage. It is
:07:11. > :07:16.a poorly designed building that is far too tall and visible for miles.
:07:16. > :07:22.The developers believe the architect has created a fantastic
:07:22. > :07:25.design after that the consultation which will greatly enhance the area.
:07:25. > :07:30.Meanwhile in the city centre, there is a need for student housing to
:07:30. > :07:34.compete with the best. Students are expecting a higher quality of
:07:34. > :07:39.accommodation. Therefore it is important we have the right balance
:07:39. > :07:41.here in the City to offer to those students. We also must recognise
:07:41. > :07:45.that universities are in competition with each other.
:07:45. > :07:51.Ultimately, the city council hope that the moratorium will give it
:07:51. > :07:56.more control over the future of Leicester's landscape.
:07:56. > :07:58.In other news, a man has been arrested on suspicion of the
:07:59. > :08:02.attempted murder of a special constable. The woman had gone to
:08:02. > :08:06.deal with an incident on Shakespeare Street in Nottingham in
:08:06. > :08:10.the early hours of Sunday when she was hit by a car which was later
:08:10. > :08:16.found abandoned. She has undergone surgery for leg fractures and is in
:08:16. > :08:19.a stable condition. The 24-year-old man was arrested in Linby last
:08:19. > :08:26.night. Rolls-Royce have received engine
:08:26. > :08:36.orders of over �500 million, the Derby engine maker has celebrated

:11:24. > :11:27.building, which has the right to fly the flag and I feel strongly
