:00:17. > :00:22.police officer who groomed a 13- year-old girl for sex. Accord is

:00:22. > :00:26.told former Inspector Russell Dew sent the girl 1,000 e-mails.

:00:26. > :00:32.decent human being would be disgusted by what they heard today.

:00:32. > :00:36.He is a dangerous and a manipulative sexual offender.

:00:36. > :00:41.Just days before Christmas, a devastating fire leaves a family

:00:41. > :00:45.facing homelessness. Plus we will be finding out how a

:00:45. > :00:50.routine eye test saved the life of Chris Brown.

:00:50. > :01:00.And I am here at the Montford Hall to find out what it is like to fly

:01:00. > :01:09.

:01:09. > :01:13.Good evening. A former police inspector has been jailed for six

:01:13. > :01:17.years for committing sex offences against a Jesse Gray School.

:01:17. > :01:21.Nottingham Crown Court heard that Russell Dew groomed his victim by

:01:21. > :01:28.sending e-mails from a police computer system. The judge said Dew

:01:28. > :01:33.was a day and is offender who abused a position of trust.

:01:33. > :01:36.Russell Dew had a promising police career but off-duty he was

:01:36. > :01:40.committing crimes against a vulnerable girl. He admitted five

:01:40. > :01:44.counts of illegal sexual activity. At Nottingham Crown Court heard the

:01:44. > :01:48.former policeman was obsessed with his victim and invited her to his

:01:48. > :01:57.home minaret way he changed into a skirt and tides before committing

:01:57. > :02:02.the offences. The court was shown a video. Dew was lying on the four

:02:02. > :02:06.fondling his victim. She has been traumatised as a result of this.

:02:06. > :02:12.She has been marginalised as school, she has not been skied been, she

:02:12. > :02:16.has been blaming herself. She sell part as the result of the effects

:02:16. > :02:20.of this. Dew was working at Mansfield police station when his

:02:20. > :02:25.colleagues arrested him when his victim complained to a seat jet. At

:02:25. > :02:32.first he claimed he was being blackmailed but the court found

:02:32. > :02:37.messages that Dew sound the girl. If a victim comes forward, police

:02:37. > :02:45.will believe them. Perpetrators we will bring them to justice

:02:45. > :02:49.regardless of who they are. Nobody is above the law. Russell Dew

:02:49. > :02:55.worked as they custody sergeant but tonight he is going to prison,

:02:55. > :03:01.paying the price for a horrendous breach of trust.

:03:01. > :03:04.The family say they are lucky to be alive after their home caught fire.

:03:04. > :03:09.The Hutton family from Leicester were already mourning their father

:03:09. > :03:13.who died last month when their house went up in flames. The fire,

:03:13. > :03:17.which started from a stray match, was so intense that the family have

:03:17. > :03:21.been left with nothing. Now the community is coming together to

:03:22. > :03:29.help. This smoke was coming out of the

:03:29. > :03:35.roof. You can still smell it. can, this was on Saturday. Naomi

:03:35. > :03:40.describes the family at the family home on Saturday. It is already a

:03:40. > :03:46.difficult time for the family. They are grieving for a husband and

:03:46. > :03:53.family -- father, Geoff, who died from cancer last month. We lost our

:03:53. > :03:59.that's ashes. We have lost pictures, memories, two of our cats.

:03:59. > :04:05.family are devastated at losing Jeff's ashes. They were supposed to

:04:05. > :04:12.go into the sea, that was his wish. We have some left. We have lost

:04:12. > :04:16.everything. You do not know where you will be tomorrow. It is just

:04:16. > :04:20.awful for stop this afternoon, brought good news as the family

:04:20. > :04:26.signed for a new home. They hope to be in for Christmas and neighbours

:04:26. > :04:30.have been a rallying round to help, raising over 100. I have let the

:04:30. > :04:34.family stay here. The neighbours have had a whip round and they have

:04:34. > :04:38.donated some money. They have bought clothes down and they are

:04:38. > :04:44.trying to find furniture for them. The neighbours are doing as much as

:04:44. > :04:49.they can. I thought this type of community spirit was dead, but it

:04:49. > :04:52.has proved me wrong. We have clothes that people donated.

:04:52. > :04:58.family hoped to move back home in the next few months but for now,

:04:58. > :05:05.they are believed they have each other.

:05:05. > :05:12.Coming up: Colin will be at Fosse Park. He assures us he is not doing

:05:12. > :05:18.his Christmas shopping. Maybe later on. As much as I dislike shopping,

:05:18. > :05:21.I prefer doing it to what these guys are doing it. A 24 hour rowing

:05:22. > :05:27.marathon and before that, Sara Sturdey is here with the Christmas

:05:27. > :05:37.shopping trade. Also tonight from West Bridgford to Rock City - the

:05:37. > :05:42.

:05:42. > :05:46.Accident investigators has spent the day examining the wreckage of

:05:46. > :05:50.two planes after they collided in mid- air killing one of the pilots.

:05:50. > :05:56.That plane crash-landed narrowly missing two homes in the Great

:05:56. > :06:01.Stretton airier of Leicestershire. What is left of the pilot's plane

:06:01. > :06:06.who died in yesterday's crash. The Leicestershire man has not been

:06:06. > :06:13.identified yet. But fellow pilots say he was popular and experienced.

:06:13. > :06:18.He has been a member for some years and through his aircraft all the

:06:18. > :06:22.way around the UK, many airfields and into Europe as well. The effect

:06:22. > :06:26.of the club is that everyone is absolutely devastated. It is not

:06:26. > :06:30.clear what caused the two planes to collide in what were considered to

:06:30. > :06:34.be good flying conditions, the pilot of the Red plane had just

:06:34. > :06:38.taken off from here at Leicester airport when the yellow biplane

:06:38. > :06:44.thought to be from the Nottingham area was coming into land. The two

:06:44. > :06:48.men inside managed to escape with minor injuries. Investigators are

:06:48. > :06:52.appealing for more eyewitnesses to come forward. Two planes were just

:06:52. > :06:58.lying around and then I heard a gunshot noise which must have been

:06:58. > :07:04.the engine cutting out. I saw the red and white plane spiralling out

:07:04. > :07:12.of control. As we looked, or we saw the yellow plane on its side, what

:07:12. > :07:16.looked as if it had landed on the road. It looked intact. The area

:07:16. > :07:20.around Este airport has now reopened. But they could be months

:07:20. > :07:28.before the air accident investigation branch publishes his

:07:28. > :07:32.report into what happened here. An inquest has heard that a Polish

:07:32. > :07:36.homeless man died on the street from alcohol poisoning. Arek Flaum

:07:36. > :07:40.was found in the doorway of the Central Library in Nottingham last

:07:40. > :07:44.month. He was more than five times their the drink-drive limit. A

:07:44. > :07:47.narrative verdict was recorded and his body has been repatriated to

:07:47. > :07:53.Poland. If 50,000 worth of copper cable

:07:53. > :07:58.has been stolen from a wind farm. 150 metres of copper cable was

:07:58. > :08:02.taken from the Lindhurst wind farm. Police believe the that was on 12th

:08:02. > :08:06.December. Scrap-metal dealers have been warned to watch offer any want

:08:06. > :08:12.selling cable. Has your Christmas shopping in the

:08:12. > :08:16.back? Are your stocking filled? Are used it for Sunday? In these times,

:08:16. > :08:19.finding the right present at the right price has never been more

:08:19. > :08:27.important so how careful are we being with our money this

:08:27. > :08:32.Christmas? Sara Sturdey is at Fosse Park. Good evening. If you had not

:08:32. > :08:37.done your shopping yet, do not panic. You have the rest of the

:08:37. > :08:41.week. Saturday's sales figures here have been described as

:08:41. > :08:48.disappointing. Economic climates is taking its toll. For most, but not

:08:48. > :08:54.all. It is pretty much the same. Oddity now we have a new one it

:08:54. > :08:58.will get more expensive but it is this same. I have cut back on

:08:58. > :09:04.previous years. The kids will not have as many presents under the

:09:04. > :09:09.tree. I have bought most online because I am very busy. I am having

:09:09. > :09:15.to cut back because the gas and electricity are increasing and

:09:15. > :09:23.pensions are not rising with the rate of inflation. I just started

:09:23. > :09:30.shopping earlier this year and was a bit more careful. Made sure what

:09:30. > :09:33.I bought people was more usable. It does seem that we are tightening

:09:33. > :09:38.our belts but that is not go to dampen the Christmas spirit and for

:09:38. > :09:46.those in the know, they reckon they could be a bit of last-minute

:09:46. > :09:52.Christmas shopping madness coming tomorrow.

:09:52. > :09:56.Next tonight: how a simple I test saved a man's life. Chris Brown did

:09:56. > :10:01.not even know he was ill when he went to get his eyes check. In fact

:10:01. > :10:09.he was very ill. Within weeks, he was having brain surgery on a

:10:09. > :10:12.potentially fatal tumour. When Chris Brown made an

:10:12. > :10:17.appointment to have his eyes checked, he had no idea it would

:10:17. > :10:22.end up saving his life. The 32- year-old notice the vision in his

:10:22. > :10:29.left eye was blurred when dust blew into the other eye at work. He came

:10:29. > :10:33.here to spec Savers and optometrist recognised there was a problem and

:10:33. > :10:37.referred him to hospital to see a specialist. Chris was diagnosed

:10:37. > :10:42.with a tumour on his pituitary gland at the base of his brain.

:10:42. > :10:48.They said that if they do not get it sorted out all operated, I would

:10:48. > :10:55.be applied within to back years. Dead within six years. It was a bit

:10:55. > :11:00.scary. Chris underwent six hours of surgery to remove the tumour.

:11:00. > :11:04.have only played a small part but I am so relieved I founded. You do

:11:04. > :11:09.get satisfaction when you do something positive to help somebody.

:11:09. > :11:14.A quiz's condition is extremely rare, so much so that just two of

:11:14. > :11:18.every million people suffer from it but opticians here say not a week

:11:18. > :11:25.goes by without them picking up on some kind of serious medical

:11:25. > :11:30.problem. We can pick up things like diabetes, high blood pressure, high

:11:31. > :11:38.cholesterol and those have a great impact of people's lies. This is my

:11:38. > :11:43.second I test and it is worth having it done. Chris says he has a

:11:43. > :11:47.team resurgence to thank for saving his life. This week, he was given

:11:47. > :11:52.the great news that the operation had been successful and the tumour

:11:52. > :11:56.had been fully remove. It is all good news just in time for

:11:56. > :12:01.Christmas. Fantastic. Some more good news, the

:12:01. > :12:05.cost -- boss of the call-centre firm bringing 700 jobs to Derby

:12:05. > :12:09.says he would like to double the workforce in two years. The council

:12:09. > :12:13.was involved behind the scenes to get Hero TSC into the former Egg

:12:13. > :12:19.building at Pride Park. The council's cabinet has agreed to

:12:19. > :12:23.take on the lease for half of the building that will remain empty.

:12:23. > :12:27.Once the seats in this huge pall were filled by people working for

:12:27. > :12:31.the Egg bank. They have all been made redundant but now a new

:12:31. > :12:36.company has stepped in to bring hundreds of jobs back here. With

:12:36. > :12:41.700 jobs on offer, many people have turned up to a robin jobs fair at

:12:41. > :12:46.the four Egg building in Derby. am a single mum and hoping I will

:12:46. > :12:50.find a position which will help me get into work again. I have spent a

:12:50. > :12:55.lot of time volunteering so I can get a bit of background because it

:12:55. > :13:01.is difficult to get your foot in the door. Hero TSC will be handling

:13:01. > :13:07.calls for Sky TV. Derby will be at the 9th call centre. We have joined

:13:07. > :13:12.together with Sky to bring 700 jobs to the community and over the next

:13:12. > :13:17.two years we are looking to extend that, and I am hopeful that what we

:13:17. > :13:22.are looking to do is double this. Hero TSC will only need half of the

:13:22. > :13:26.building. The other half will be vacated by the Yorkshire Building

:13:26. > :13:32.Society in May. The city council Cabinet has agreed to take on the

:13:32. > :13:37.seven-year lease for the empty half. A potential cost of 2.2 5 million

:13:37. > :13:41.from regeneration funds. It shows are the call centres and investors

:13:41. > :13:45.that if they come and talk to us we will find solutions to the

:13:45. > :13:55.difficulties they might be an countering elsewhere. It is hoped

:13:55. > :13:59.

:13:59. > :14:03.the first calls will be handled Still to come, Carl Froch crashes

:14:03. > :14:07.to earth. We visit Peter Pan.

:14:07. > :14:15.And if you are hoping for a white Christmas, I'm afraid I am the

:14:15. > :14:18.pantomime villain. The forecast coming up.

:14:19. > :14:23.There has not been much chart success for Nottingham bans in

:14:23. > :14:29.recent years. Probably the last time was Paper Lace in the 1970s.

:14:29. > :14:33.We know the words! But all that may be about to change.

:14:33. > :14:42.At the weekend, a group from West Bridgford headline that one of the

:14:42. > :14:47.top rock venues in the country. -- headlined act of.

:14:47. > :14:53.It was a night to remember for music lovers in Nottingham, as a

:14:53. > :14:57.local band Dog at Is Dead took to the stage. A few years ago, they

:14:57. > :15:02.were playing in their parents' back gardens and now there are one of

:15:02. > :15:05.the biggest venues in Nottingham. This is a big gig for Nottingham.

:15:05. > :15:09.Nottingham has been underperforming for Diez and at last we have a band

:15:09. > :15:15.that is big enough to play one of the best regarded venues in the

:15:15. > :15:19.whole city. -- 40 years. A after a barnstorming performance at

:15:19. > :15:24.Glastonbury last year, the band have gone from strength to strength

:15:24. > :15:27.and it has signed to a major label. It has been totally mental. It has

:15:27. > :15:37.been a really weird, Strange ride as well as being everything we

:15:37. > :15:44.could have wanted. Some really nice surprises. A great year for us, at

:15:44. > :15:49.some writing and up for playing shows. -- songwriting. It is a long

:15:49. > :15:54.way from being 16-year-olds in West Bridgford to coming to the biggest

:15:55. > :15:58.venue in town. It is good to see someone from home doing so well.

:15:58. > :16:05.have disturbed the band on BBC Radio Nottingham so I came along to

:16:05. > :16:13.see them. -- I have just heard. have a full UK to her next year and

:16:13. > :16:20.an album to finish, it is sure to be an exciting year ahead.

:16:20. > :16:28.Who knows where they will be this time next year? Time to roll back

:16:28. > :16:35.to Jenny's Wood. This is a 24 hour rowing marathon.

:16:35. > :16:40.These players from Leicester are raising money for charity. We will

:16:40. > :16:43.talk more about this later on. We are starting with Carl Froch, the

:16:43. > :16:48.Nottingham boxer who has apologised to fans after losing his world

:16:48. > :16:52.title in the early hours of yesterday. He produced a brave

:16:52. > :16:57.performance but eventually lost on points to the very classy unbeaten

:16:57. > :17:03.American Andre Ward. Now Carl Froch is hoping for a big homecoming

:17:03. > :17:07.fight back in Nottingham. It had promised so much and many

:17:07. > :17:12.hundreds of fans were hopeful but in the ring, Carl Froch was

:17:12. > :17:17.frustrated by the skills of Andre Ward. The American was too quick

:17:17. > :17:22.for his opponent, he struggled to make an impression. Ward's defence

:17:22. > :17:26.was rock solid. It was a painful end to the rain, but the new

:17:26. > :17:31.champion bore scars, too, and Carl Froch's profile was increased and

:17:31. > :17:36.he had a positive attitude. I see myself up there with Muhammad Ali

:17:36. > :17:40.and some of the top fighters who were beaten and came back stronger.

:17:40. > :17:50.He left the arena three hours after the fight, already plotting his

:17:50. > :17:54.next opponent. He will fight a Canadian opponent into a provides.

:17:54. > :18:03.TRANSLATION: To stop him talking and fix everything in the ring. If

:18:03. > :18:06.I fight him, I will stop him. Froch is still a serious contender

:18:06. > :18:14.for world titles but today he arrived at Heathrow airport with

:18:14. > :18:19.his luggage a little lighter. Andre Ward was a classy fighter.

:18:19. > :18:23.Are you doing all right? It yes. Glad to hear it.

:18:23. > :18:31.Like these people, our football clubs but in a lot of effort this

:18:31. > :18:34.weekend without actually travelling anywhere.

:18:34. > :18:40.Nigel Pearson says this week Leicester will be trying to change

:18:40. > :18:46.their mentality after this 2-1 defeat. They controlled the game

:18:46. > :18:52.for long periods with their top goalscorer giving them a 1-0

:18:52. > :18:58.advantage but two goals from this player turned the game on its head.

:18:58. > :19:02.It means Christmas is a season defining period for Leicester. No

:19:02. > :19:08.goals in five for Nottingham Forest and their manager still has wise

:19:08. > :19:12.Morgan it out for six weeks. On Saturday, the Bristol City goalie

:19:12. > :19:17.was at his impeccable best, pulling off three exceptional saves from

:19:18. > :19:24.Marcus Tudgay. Forest need a bit of luck at the minute. Derby will

:19:24. > :19:28.consider themselves unfortunate, too. Did this head debt get cleared

:19:28. > :19:33.off the line? The referee and linesman had to discuss it before

:19:33. > :19:39.deciding it was a goal and that was enough for an Ipswich win. In

:19:39. > :19:47.League One, two mistakes and a penalty saved cost not county who

:19:47. > :19:52.lost -- cost Nottingham County, who lost 2-1 at against Leyton Orient.

:19:52. > :19:57.With me now is a Leicester City's and decaying. It has not quite gone

:19:57. > :20:06.according to plan, has made? have played well in fits and starts

:20:07. > :20:11.but like to say, we have not had a consistent run. -- Andy King up. We

:20:11. > :20:14.have to address it in the next game. We have unearthed players here so

:20:15. > :20:20.we need to put our whole before us together for the full 90 minutes,

:20:20. > :20:25.then we are good enough to beat any team in this league. The target is

:20:25. > :20:29.a big one. That is a huge target. Definitely. The teams at the top

:20:29. > :20:33.started very well but they are starting to show signs of cracking

:20:33. > :20:38.up as the Christmas period comes. Much gets made of the Christmas

:20:38. > :20:43.period and how many games are played over a short period of time.

:20:43. > :20:48.We can pick up a few wins. It will hope to be put us in a good

:20:48. > :20:53.position in January. What do you make of what these boys are up to?

:20:53. > :20:58.And I am glad it is me up -- the Met rather than me. It is good for

:20:58. > :21:02.the club and fair play to them. hours on a rowing machine is quite

:21:02. > :21:06.something! Just around the corner from Leicester City are Leicester

:21:06. > :21:09.Tigers, the biggest club in the English Premiership. Salary caps

:21:09. > :21:14.mean that they and the rest of the Premiership feel they are falling

:21:14. > :21:17.behind the French of the European stage. After suffering last week's

:21:17. > :21:25.demolition across La Manche, Saturday's return game against

:21:25. > :21:28.Clermont Auvergne became a must win. The visitors came in at numbers and

:21:28. > :21:32.bantered the drum for a team who want to escape a Babel as perennial

:21:32. > :21:39.bridesmaids. They had huge confidence after a big win over the

:21:39. > :21:45.Tigers in France. You can bet that the Tigers fans will be even louder

:21:45. > :21:50.than these funds! We are at home. That is the point.

:21:50. > :21:53.We are very passionate about our team. Neither tame were able to get

:21:53. > :22:00.a flow going in the first half and a was Tigers who found the first

:22:00. > :22:05.breakthrough. Clermont Auvergne had been kicking their goal and when

:22:05. > :22:09.his players scored at half-time, it put them nine points ahead. All

:22:09. > :22:16.change in the second half, though. Suddenly, this player found his

:22:16. > :22:26.kicking boots. The Tigers were then able to cross the try-line again.

:22:26. > :22:27.

:22:27. > :22:33.Crucial to the Cup group winning bonus points was this match. What

:22:33. > :22:37.made the difference? Determination in the end. A tough game. I have

:22:37. > :22:43.nothing but admiration for the players. They are working hard.

:22:43. > :22:48.They are a good solid. They are a difficult side to beat. In the end,

:22:48. > :22:52.though we were the better side. got there in the end. The Cup is

:22:52. > :23:00.still very much on for Tigers but that away game in at all stay in

:23:04. > :23:10.Some news about Nottingham Panthers now. They made life hard for

:23:10. > :23:17.themselves. This is the fight back after Panthers had gifted their

:23:41. > :23:47.doing 24 hours. They are just over 10 hours in. How far have they

:23:47. > :23:53.gone? Just over 175 kilometres so far. Not bad!

:23:53. > :24:00.It makes you tired to watch them. We will find out how far they have

:24:00. > :24:03.gone on the late news. We are well into the panto season. I was at

:24:40. > :24:46.first performance of Peter Pan on the Ice and that was invited along

:24:46. > :24:53.to have a go at playing the starring role. With me is to be in,

:24:53. > :24:56.the brains behind the operation. Everybody knows Peter Pan is the

:25:01. > :25:05.to fly. We have a harness for you. We will get you into that and clip

:25:05. > :25:10.you on and we shall flighted Neverland. Despite arriving just

:25:38. > :25:48.Bambi than a Peter Pan. I don't think the real Peter Pan should be
