:00:15. > :00:15.

:00:15. > :00:18.with a hammer. The jury hears that he made plans for the killing and

:00:18. > :00:21.searched for websites on how to get away with murder.

:00:21. > :00:26.Also tonight, a grieving mother backs a campaign to rid Mansfield

:00:26. > :00:30.of its binge-drinking culture. went to Mansfield for a Friday

:00:30. > :00:35.night out and never came home again. Plus, built for the bigger patient

:01:03. > :01:08.Good evening and welcome to Monday's programme. First tonight,

:01:08. > :01:11.a schoolboy's gone on trial accused of murdering a woman with a hammer.

:01:11. > :01:14.Today a jury heard that the boy had written detailed plans for the

:01:14. > :01:16.killing and that he tried to destroy the evidence by burning his

:01:17. > :01:25.victim's body. For more details, let's cross to Nottingham Crown

:01:25. > :01:31.Court and our social affairs correspondent, Jeremy Ball. Good

:01:31. > :01:35.evening, Jeremy. Good evening. The prosecution said the jury will hear

:01:35. > :01:39.disturbing evidence. This happened at the woman's home in Nottingham

:01:39. > :01:44.last year. She was beaten so badly that her skull was fractured and

:01:44. > :01:49.though her and her body was covered in petrol and set on fire. And --

:01:49. > :01:59.and then her body was covered in petrol. We are not allowed to

:01:59. > :02:05.identify it the person accused or the woman. If he has admitted the

:02:05. > :02:09.attack, why is the trial taking place? The jury has to decide

:02:09. > :02:13.whether he is guilty of murder. That is because the defence say he

:02:13. > :02:17.had been provoked and that he finally lost control after the

:02:17. > :02:21.woman called him a freak. The prosecution see it differently and

:02:21. > :02:25.they say this was well planned and so it there is damning evidence

:02:25. > :02:29.found by detectives on his computer hard drive. He had been looking up

:02:29. > :02:34.website on how to get away with murder and there are also clips

:02:34. > :02:37.from a similar soap-opera plot and he had tried to delete a story that

:02:37. > :02:42.mapped out details of this killing and we heard that this boy had

:02:42. > :02:47.immersed himself in a fantasy world and the boundaries between real

:02:47. > :02:52.life and fiction had become very tragically blurred. Looking back,

:02:52. > :02:58.had there been any warning signs? We heard there had been some

:02:58. > :03:02.worries about his behaviour. One incident in class where he started

:03:02. > :03:06.screaming that his school tie was trying to hurt him. We also heard

:03:06. > :03:16.that he had been talking to a councillor, heard that he had been

:03:16. > :03:16.

:03:16. > :03:19.hearing voices -- a counsellor. will leave it there, thank you.

:03:19. > :03:24.A Nottinghamshire town is fighting to get rid of its reputation as a

:03:24. > :03:26.centre for weekend binge drinking. Mansfield wants to earn a purple

:03:26. > :03:29.flag - an award given to town centres which promote responsible

:03:29. > :03:39.drinking. Our cameras followed police on a busy night dealing with

:03:39. > :03:42.

:03:42. > :03:47.alcohol-related violence. From A recent report highlighted this

:03:47. > :03:52.town has a drinking problem. The highest numbers of alcohol-related

:03:52. > :03:56.hospital admissions and the highest levels of alcohol and crime in

:03:56. > :04:02.Nottinghamshire. So we are out with Mansfield police on one of the

:04:02. > :04:08.busiest nights of the year will stop and we are in for a rough ride.

:04:08. > :04:17.What has happened? SCREAMING. 's before I spend an evening with

:04:17. > :04:27.the police I want to discover this town's darkest hour. The mid-

:04:27. > :04:27.

:04:27. > :04:33.noughties. Most weekends saw serious accident. This woman's

:04:33. > :04:43.relative died but no charges were brought. He went out on a Friday

:04:43. > :04:44.

:04:44. > :04:47.night and never came back. You have got to be careful. You hope your

:04:47. > :04:51.children can go out and be safe. And not have the heartbreak we had.

:04:51. > :04:55.The term and to reduce major incidents, the police and

:04:56. > :05:02.authorities are trying to tackle problem pubs and people. A do not

:05:02. > :05:07.kick the van! Besides arrests, the police use powers like direction to

:05:07. > :05:16.leave, which bars people from the town centre through the night. A

:05:16. > :05:22.more serious thing is a drink banning order. Look price received

:05:22. > :05:26.the first one, be named and shamed. -- Luke price. It was big news. I

:05:26. > :05:30.live in a pub and I am banned from them. Do you think these drink

:05:30. > :05:35.banning orders work? Yes, it is in the back of your mind. You don't

:05:35. > :05:39.want to go out causing trouble because if you get caught...

:05:40. > :05:43.Despite the crackdowns, initiatives and goodwill, tackling weekend

:05:43. > :05:50.binge-drinking remains a challenge in Mansfield. But this town is

:05:51. > :05:53.serious about fighting for its purple flag. Somewhere that

:05:53. > :05:57.discourages binge-drinking. You can see Stuart Woodman's full

:05:57. > :06:00.report on tonight's Inside Out at 7:30 on BBC One.

:06:00. > :06:03.Still to come on the programme, keeping the traffic flowing - we

:06:03. > :06:13.join the Highways Agency as they clear crashes, set up diversions

:06:13. > :06:23.

:06:23. > :06:26.Two men have appeared in court charged with the murder of a

:06:26. > :06:32.takeaway shop owner from Leicester. The body of the businessman was

:06:32. > :06:37.found earlier this month, as Helen Astle reports.

:06:37. > :06:41.The body of Dogan Dogan was found in his flat above a takeaway on 8th

:06:41. > :06:47.January. This morning, 31-year-old Wali Khan and 27-year-old Naveed

:06:47. > :06:51.Naveed, both from St Stephen's Road appeared at Leicester magistrates'

:06:51. > :06:56.court. Each confirmed their name and address. They were arrested on

:06:56. > :07:01.Thursday and spent two days in police custody before being charged.

:07:01. > :07:07.During the 15 minute hearing, Wali Khan and Naveed Naveed did not

:07:07. > :07:11.enter a plea. They have been remanded into custody. It will

:07:11. > :07:14.later be decided if they will be granted bail. In the meantime,

:07:14. > :07:21.police investigations into the murder of Dogan Dogan are

:07:21. > :07:24.continuing. A man has been jailed for nearly

:07:24. > :07:27.five years after he ran over a special constable in Nottingham and

:07:27. > :07:31.broke her leg in three places. Lee Ashton hit Carly Henfrey with a

:07:31. > :07:33.stolen car on Shakespeare Street as he tried to escape from police last

:07:33. > :07:36.November. A judge at Nottingham Crown Court said the public could

:07:36. > :07:43.only be protected if he was in custody because he constantly

:07:43. > :07:45.flouted any bans or punishments given to him regarding driving.

:07:45. > :07:48.The family of an off-duty police officer who was critically injured

:07:48. > :07:53.in a hit-and-run have thanked people in Mansfield for their

:07:53. > :07:57.unwavering support. PC Diederik Coetzee was cycling along Blidworth

:07:58. > :08:01.Lane at the end of November when he was hit by a car. He's still in

:08:01. > :08:04.hospital in a stable condition. Four people have been arrested and

:08:04. > :08:06.bailed in connection with the incident.

:08:06. > :08:12.A BAFTA-winning actress has appeared in court charged with

:08:12. > :08:16.racially aggravated assault. 21- year-old Lauren Socha, who won a

:08:16. > :08:20.BAFTA for her role in the TV series Misfits, is alleged to have

:08:20. > :08:23.assaulted a taxi driver in Derby one night last October. Today she

:08:23. > :08:30.appeared at Derby Crown Court where she pleaded not guilty to the

:08:30. > :08:32.charge. Her trial is expected to take place in April.

:08:32. > :08:35.People living in a Leicestershire village are warning that someone

:08:35. > :08:38.could be killed unless urgent action is taken to force traffic to

:08:38. > :08:44.slow down. They say motorists are ignoring a 20mph speed limit

:08:45. > :08:54.through Kilby. One house on a corner has so far had four cars

:08:55. > :08:57.

:08:57. > :09:01.Rosemary and Michael Arrowsmith have lived on Main Street in Kilby

:09:02. > :09:06.for more than 30 years. Their 400- year-old House is at one end of the

:09:06. > :09:09.village. They say the speed limit being ignored and the Grade Two

:09:10. > :09:13.listed property usually bears the brunt if motorists drive carelessly.

:09:13. > :09:16.We have had people run into the side of the house, into the front

:09:17. > :09:22.we had a car through the front with a concrete bollard coming in front

:09:22. > :09:27.of it. And then this final one where the car went up and hit the

:09:27. > :09:31.window. That is in the middle of the house, not even on the corner.

:09:31. > :09:35.40,000 damage was caused in the last accident. Some residents say

:09:35. > :09:39.school buses are breaking the speed limit and there may be disastrous

:09:39. > :09:44.consequences. We are worried about the children playing out. There is

:09:45. > :09:48.a school here. Somebody will get knocked over eventually. There will

:09:48. > :09:52.be a serious accident before long. My one car is coming into the

:09:52. > :09:56.village, another is going out and they will hit head-on. Something

:09:56. > :10:00.might get done then but it wants doing before then to prevent it.

:10:00. > :10:04.Even the bollards outside the home had to be replaced when there had

:10:04. > :10:07.been damaged. Leicestershire County Council says officers will be

:10:07. > :10:17.holding a site meeting later this week to see whether anything else

:10:17. > :10:17.

:10:17. > :10:21.can be done. Most of us have probably driven on

:10:21. > :10:23.the M1 at some time or another, but have you ever thought about who's

:10:23. > :10:27.responsible for the smooth running of the motorway? When accidents

:10:27. > :10:29.happen or when people break down, it's the job of the Highways Agency

:10:29. > :10:32.to divert traffic, arrange recovery and make the scene safe. Our

:10:32. > :10:42.reporter Jonathan Cecil has been out with two teams covering our

:10:42. > :10:42.

:10:42. > :10:50.section of one of the country's They are responsible for looking

:10:50. > :10:55.after motorways and made a -- major trunk roads. The staff close lanes,

:10:55. > :11:03.use overhead signs and control the flow of vehicles. It is the

:11:03. > :11:07.Two cars have collided and one of the drivers has called the police,

:11:07. > :11:12.making allegations about the other driver. People are angry when there

:11:12. > :11:16.has been an accident so you tend to get the after-effects of the anger.

:11:16. > :11:19.We will see what happens with this one, I suspect it will be dealt

:11:19. > :11:24.with by the insurance companies. But the most dangerous places on

:11:24. > :11:28.the motorway can be the hard shoulder. We have vehicles coming

:11:28. > :11:31.up to the hard shoulder every now and then when people are not paying

:11:31. > :11:36.attention or falling asleep so you have to keep your eyes open all the

:11:36. > :11:42.time. The major road and trunk road networks carry two thirds of all

:11:42. > :11:45.heavy freight traffic. It didn't happen many minutes ago. Some of

:11:45. > :11:52.the strap's light. Working. The officers are making sure that the

:11:52. > :11:58.driver is OK. -- of this Trott's lights are not working.

:11:58. > :12:03.One year, has started a rolling roadblock. We will slow the traffic

:12:03. > :12:06.down to slow it down to make it safe to collect the debris. It will

:12:06. > :12:10.not inconvenience the public too much, we hope will have made it

:12:10. > :12:14.safer. As soon as the officer can see the robot vehicle, they have a

:12:14. > :12:17.chance to retrieve the object. job is to keep the traffic moving,

:12:17. > :12:21.to keep the public informed of something that is happening and to

:12:21. > :12:25.reduce journey times as much as we possibly can. They manage a huge

:12:25. > :12:29.range of incident, but when there his loss of life or criminal

:12:32. > :12:37.life. We get called to an accident

:12:51. > :12:55.Leicester sold 38,000 tickets for its revival of 42nd Street. It was

:12:55. > :12:57.so popular that an extra seventh week was added to the run. The

:12:57. > :13:03.musical, which finished at the weekend, sold 2,000 tickets more

:13:03. > :13:05.than the previous year's production, The King And I.

:13:05. > :13:11.Today marks the start of an auspicious year in the Chinese

:13:11. > :13:13.calendar. Celebrations have been taking place across the East

:13:13. > :13:17.Midlands, including in Leicester. And this year is particularly

:13:17. > :13:20.special because it's the Year of the Dragon. The Chinese believe

:13:20. > :13:30.that children born now are destined to be successful and wealthy so

:13:30. > :13:30.

:13:30. > :13:35.watch out for a bit of a baby boom. You never know! Still to come, a

:13:35. > :13:39.very big birthday for a well-known cycle manufacturer. And it will be

:13:39. > :13:49.a cold day tomorrow with a chance of some rain, sleet and snow. More

:13:49. > :13:53.

:13:53. > :13:56.weather for you towards the end of the programme.

:13:56. > :13:58.Millions of pounds is being spent on new ambulances for the East

:13:58. > :14:01.Midlands designed to transport the heaviest patients. 80 emergency

:14:01. > :14:06.vehicles have been ordered that can carry patients weighing up to 50

:14:06. > :14:14.stone. Our health correspondent Rob Sissons reports.

:14:14. > :14:18.We are getting bigger, eating more, Paramedics are going to accidents

:14:18. > :14:27.whether patients and bigger as well. This person had to be rescued from

:14:27. > :14:32.a crashed car. It was a while ago The they had to cut me out and I

:14:32. > :14:37.don't know how many firemen it took to cut me out. The blood-pressure

:14:37. > :14:44.cuff would not go around my arm because it was a small one. And the

:14:44. > :14:49.trolley I was on, I was bulging over the sides. It was very

:14:49. > :14:52.uncomfortable as a journey, degrading for me. And I felt sorry

:14:52. > :14:56.for the stuff that had to deal with me. Now the ambulance service is

:14:56. > :15:02.moving with the times to meet the challenge of heavier patients.

:15:02. > :15:05.is our prototype vehicle. It has a standard A&E structure. Capable of

:15:05. > :15:11.taking a patient up to 30 stone. And the new ones? The new ones will

:15:11. > :15:15.take a patient up to 50 stones. It is a lot smoother for the patient

:15:15. > :15:19.because it is electrical. At the moment, there are only five

:15:19. > :15:25.ambulances serving an entire fleet of 270 that required to take

:15:25. > :15:28.patients of more than 30 stone. Now, 80 more are on order. I felt sorry

:15:28. > :15:32.for the staff that had to deal with me because they were trained to do

:15:32. > :15:39.as much as they could and they obviously had to ask me how much I

:15:39. > :15:43.worried which I know they have to do. -- how much I weigh. It was a

:15:43. > :15:47.horrible experience. 37 of the new ambulances will go to Lincolnshire.

:15:47. > :15:54.Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire each will get 14 and by the summer,

:15:54. > :16:01.Leicestershire and Rutland will The tomorrow night, Robb will have

:16:01. > :16:08.a special report on the increasing popularity of obesity surgery. We

:16:08. > :16:12.have a "weight T" matters to deal All the weekend's action is on the

:16:12. > :16:14.way but there's a game tonight and its a big one. Leicester City off

:16:14. > :16:17.to Championship pace-setters Southampton. But it's transfer

:16:17. > :16:20.window time, and that means it's all overshadowed by news of faces

:16:20. > :16:30.arriving and leaving at the Foxes. Ian Stringer is at the St Mary's

:16:30. > :16:31.

:16:31. > :16:35.Welcome to St Mary's, massive game for Leicester City, off the back of

:16:35. > :16:39.a 4-0 victory over Nottingham Forest. But formidable opponents

:16:39. > :16:44.here for the Foxes this evening. Former Leicester striker Alan Young

:16:44. > :16:50.joins me. First, what do city need to do to overcome Southampton

:16:50. > :16:53.tonight? I think if they play anything like they performed

:16:53. > :16:57.against Nottingham Forest then we will not be far away tonight.

:16:57. > :17:03.Brilliant news coming out of the King power stadium, first and

:17:03. > :17:10.foremost, Newquay Abbey leaves and returns to Japan. Your thoughts.

:17:10. > :17:15.really tried his had hardest but he has gone back to play his football

:17:15. > :17:21.and we wish him well. Myth and Alfonso comes in on a one month

:17:21. > :17:25.emergency loan from Aston Villa. -- Nathan. He can play both sides. I

:17:25. > :17:30.have not seen him play but he can play both flanks and that is what

:17:30. > :17:34.in a manager is looking for. Let's hope it is difficult for him.

:17:34. > :17:40.may feature this evening as make Danny Drinkwater, the signing from

:17:40. > :17:43.Manchester United. The stage is set with full commentary on BBC local

:17:43. > :17:46.radio and for myself in the commentary box.

:17:46. > :17:49.Don't miss Ian and Alan on BBC Radio Leicester getting going in a

:17:49. > :17:53.few minutes. You can get your first look at the goals on our late

:17:53. > :17:58.bulletin this evening at 10:25 and a full report on Late Kick Off

:17:58. > :18:02.which is live at 11:05 here on BBC One. Plenty of interest for fans of

:18:02. > :18:05.other clubs too. A great feature on Rams keeper Frank Fielding plus

:18:05. > :18:11.former Derby and Forest manager Billy Davies is a guest in the

:18:11. > :18:14.studio. And Billy Davies has been an

:18:14. > :18:24.interested spectator as Forest have slid backwards this season. A slide

:18:24. > :18:26.

:18:26. > :18:32.that continued, controversially, on Nottingham Forest at Upton Park.

:18:32. > :18:36.The first from a ball fired into the arm, at least that is how it

:18:36. > :18:43.looked. And the second in the second half hitting Chris Brunt.

:18:43. > :18:50.Same offence, same decision, same result. Forest manager Steve

:18:50. > :18:57.Cotterill left looking for the The first one was never a penalty.

:18:57. > :19:00.I can see why he has given the second one by thought we were

:19:00. > :19:06.excellent, the better team. I thought we have got our team that.

:19:06. > :19:11.You can argue who deserved it more but a McGugan special was earned.

:19:11. > :19:15.Cotterell is convinced it will all The rest of the action now. Notts

:19:15. > :19:19.County in a moment, but first, in- form Derby.

:19:19. > :19:29.The rest of the action now. Notts County in a moment, but first, in-

:19:29. > :19:31.

:19:31. > :19:38.test for the keeper. But they stood firm to come away with a goalless

:19:38. > :19:44.I think we deserved at least a point. We did very well today and

:19:44. > :19:48.we did not sit back. Not a negative 0-0. Notts County are still looking

:19:48. > :19:51.for their first win in League One since November but a draw was a

:19:51. > :19:57.decent result against promotion candidates, MK Dons. The visitors

:19:57. > :20:03.took the lead in acrobatic style in the first half Notts County had

:20:03. > :20:07.plenty of chances to equalise. Fans thinking it wasn't to be with the

:20:07. > :20:11.MK Dons keeper in good form. 10 minutes to go, they got their brick

:20:11. > :20:21.through thanks to the penalty decision. Up stepped Jeff Hughes

:20:21. > :20:28.and he very rarely misses from the Other sport and some major changes

:20:28. > :20:30.being announced at Leicester Tigers. Lock George Skivington is off to

:20:30. > :20:33.London Irish in the summer, winger Alesana Tuilagi is Japan-bound and

:20:33. > :20:36.young Billy Twelvetrees hasn't signed a new contract and will also

:20:36. > :20:39.be leaving. It all probably gave Tigers fans something to discuss

:20:39. > :20:43.during a stinker of a first half at Welford Road against the Italians,
