:00:19. > :00:22.Our top story tonight - horror on an escalator. First tonight, a man
:00:22. > :00:32.is in hospital this evening after his toe was torn off on an
:00:32. > :00:37.escalator. He was screaming in agony. Also tonight - murdered by a
:00:37. > :00:42.man who laughed and licked the knife used to stab him.
:00:42. > :00:46.Five GP practices to be replaced by a single surgery.
:00:46. > :00:56.Find out why the Golden Mile in Leicester has been transformed into
:00:56. > :00:57.
:00:57. > :01:06.a film set. Good evening. Welcome to the
:01:06. > :01:09.programme. First a man is in hospital tonight after his toe was
:01:09. > :01:11.torn off on an escalator. It happened in a shopping arcade in
:01:11. > :01:14.Nottingham. Shopkeepers had described hearing the man screaming
:01:14. > :01:22.in pain. The escalator is cordoned off as an investigation is underway.
:01:22. > :01:27.Helen Astle reports. No one knows how it happened but yesterday
:01:27. > :01:32.afternoon, a man believed to be in his 20s, had his toe ripped off on
:01:32. > :01:39.an escalator. I was serving customers and I heard a commotion.
:01:39. > :01:43.This chap was yelling, help me, help me. Before I could react,
:01:43. > :01:51.someone from the Barbara's ran out and press the button to stop their
:01:51. > :01:56.escalator. He was just there, saying I want my feet out. We
:01:56. > :02:00.called an ambulance straightaway. It is understood it to go around 30
:02:00. > :02:05.minutes to free the man. They were trying to cut his shoe off and
:02:05. > :02:11.could not get it off. He was screaming in a lot of pain, he
:02:11. > :02:18.could not move. He was still up right but he could not move, he was
:02:18. > :02:23.trapped. He could not get his foot out and he wasn't a lot of pain.
:02:23. > :02:29.Escalators are in the West End Arcade, built in the 1970s. The
:02:29. > :02:33.city council is now investigating, it is not known what caused the
:02:33. > :02:42.incident. The escalator is closed while further checks are carried
:02:42. > :02:47.out. It is well maintained. The men come once a month to lookout it.
:02:47. > :02:53.it is an old escalator but it is regularly serviced. The men come
:02:53. > :02:56.along and cordon it off regularly. I am not aware of any problem.
:02:57. > :03:00.contacted the managing agents of the building but they did not want
:03:00. > :03:05.to make a comment. I understand that the man involved is being
:03:05. > :03:09.cared for at the Queen's Medical Centre. He is heavily sedated and
:03:09. > :03:12.likely to stay in hospital for several weeks.
:03:12. > :03:19.NHS bosses will decide next week whether to push ahead with
:03:19. > :03:26.controversial plans to move five GP surgeries to a single site. 30,000
:03:26. > :03:29.patients in Nottinghamshire would be affected by the change. Most of
:03:29. > :03:32.the surgeries are in converted houses and are no longer seen many
:03:32. > :03:40.NHS a suitable places for a GP practices. Our health correspondent
:03:40. > :03:44.Rob Sissons imports. A converted house, cosy and quaint but the
:03:44. > :03:49.doctors say it is not fit for twentieth-century health care.
:03:49. > :03:54.Inside they complain it is too cramped. It is really inappropriate
:03:54. > :03:59.to practise modern-day medicine in this. The plan is for her four
:03:59. > :04:05.other practices to move to a single site on the periphery of the suburb.
:04:05. > :04:09.This woman worries it is too far. On a good day, she says she can
:04:09. > :04:16.walk but her condition says on a bad day she can hardly get out of
:04:16. > :04:20.bed. With this proposal I will be required to take two buses. Also,
:04:20. > :04:24.it economically disadvantaged is those who are already economically
:04:24. > :04:28.disadvantaged by their condition. We are aware of the concern of
:04:28. > :04:33.patients about travelling to the new surgery. We're conscious we
:04:33. > :04:40.need to work with the relevant authorities to solve that. These
:04:40. > :04:44.campaigners say it is the wrong site. You can divert buses and play
:04:44. > :04:50.around with local services but there is no direct connection with
:04:50. > :04:57.the centre and that is the key. latest round of revealing it to the
:04:57. > :05:02.patients has been a poor exercise in my view. Two consultation
:05:02. > :05:08.meetings - no public address - no opportunity to ask questions and
:05:08. > :05:13.hear the answers. 3,000 people have responded to the consultation. Some
:05:13. > :05:17.people are impressed. I think it will be a benefit with more
:05:17. > :05:23.facilities. Whether they will get these plans of the drawing board is
:05:23. > :05:30.uncertain. The GPs who want to get it built here have a fight on their
:05:30. > :05:33.hands. Still to come - could a Ketton
:05:33. > :05:40.landmark be joined by two turbines? Not to some of the locals have
:05:40. > :05:43.anything to do with it. We will be there live later in the show.
:05:43. > :05:47.A court has heard that one of the men accused of murdering a former
:05:47. > :05:50.police officer, laughed and licked the blade of the knife afterwards.
:05:50. > :05:53.Paul Fyfe, who had served with the Leicestershire force, was stabbed
:05:53. > :05:58.when he asked a drug dealer and another man to leave his
:05:58. > :06:04.girlfriend's house. Our chief news reporter was in court and can tell
:06:04. > :06:08.us more. What do we know about Paul Fyfe?
:06:08. > :06:11.the time of his murder last June, he was 47. He had three daughters
:06:11. > :06:13.and was also a grandfather. He was working as a legal representative
:06:13. > :06:18.for defence solicitors in Leicester, often visiting clients in police
:06:18. > :06:23.stations. Before that he had been a detective constable for
:06:23. > :06:26.Leicestershire police and left the force in 2005. His wife of 28 years,
:06:26. > :06:30.pictured with him here, discovered that he had started an affair with
:06:30. > :06:34.a woman he had met at a club and Leicester and he moved out of the
:06:34. > :06:38.family home. What were the circumstances that
:06:38. > :06:42.led to him being murdered at his girlfriend's house? Naomi Reid was
:06:42. > :06:46.a drug user who lived on the Rowlatts Hill estate in Leicester.
:06:46. > :06:53.Paul Fyfe wanted her to stop taking drugs and cut her links with
:06:53. > :06:56.dealers. In the early hours of 10th June she was repeatedly visited by
:06:56. > :07:00.her supplier, Amin Jogee and his friend Mohammed Hersi. According to
:07:00. > :07:03.the prosecution, both were drunk and Jogee had also taking cocaine.
:07:03. > :07:07.When they finally left she texted them not to return but they let
:07:07. > :07:11.themselves back in, by which time Paul Fyfe had returned from work.
:07:11. > :07:14.Mr Fyfe challenged Hersi, what are you going to do stab me? And egged
:07:14. > :07:18.on by his friend he did, straight into his heart with the only knife
:07:18. > :07:25.in the house. Both men deny murder, what did they
:07:25. > :07:28.say in their police interviews? Both of them blamed each other for
:07:28. > :07:32.the stabbing. Amin Jogee said after they had run away to a nearby park
:07:32. > :07:35.Mohammed Hersi was laughing like was a joke and licked the blade of
:07:35. > :07:38.the knife. The jury was told the men felt Paul Fyfe had disrespected
:07:38. > :07:47.them, a fatal error in their book. The trial is expected to last two
:07:47. > :07:50.weeks. Thank you very much. A man who was at the centre of a
:07:50. > :07:53.long stand-off with armed police has been charged with a number of
:07:53. > :07:56.offencesWayne Green was arrested on a houseboat at Sandiacre in the
:07:56. > :07:58.early hours of yesterday. He appeared before magistrates in
:07:58. > :08:03.Derby this afternoon charged with assaulting a police officer, and
:08:03. > :08:05.failing to comply with the terms of a violent offender Order.
:08:05. > :08:08.Chauffeur-driven journeys made by the leader of Leicestershire County
:08:08. > :08:12.Council during the last six years have cost the taxpayer more than
:08:12. > :08:18.200,000. It is just as the local authority is making 74 million of
:08:18. > :08:25.cuts to services. David Parsons says he has increased his use of
:08:25. > :08:27.public transport cut down and council business car journeys.
:08:27. > :08:31.Schools and businesses in Derbyshire are being warned to be
:08:31. > :08:34.on the alert for conmen, who say they need to repaint road markings
:08:34. > :08:39.nearby. The county council says it has received a number of complaints
:08:39. > :08:41.about men claiming to work on its behalf. The rogue traders then
:08:41. > :08:50.demand cash for special paint to go outside the properties. Businesses,
:08:50. > :08:53.GP surgeries and community centres have all been targeted.
:08:53. > :08:57.Villagers have started a campaign against plans for two and giant
:08:57. > :09:00.wind turbines. The locals at Ketton in Rutland say that the turbines
:09:00. > :09:06.will be unsightly and noisy. They also fear they will blow emissions
:09:06. > :09:16.from a nearby cement works towards their homes. James Roberson has the
:09:16. > :09:16.
:09:16. > :09:19.details. This farm outside Ketton have a family which looks after
:09:19. > :09:26.horses and other livestock but in the field next door beside the
:09:26. > :09:30.cement works, there are plans to build two wind turbines. Clare is
:09:30. > :09:36.worried about their effects on her health and their health of her
:09:36. > :09:40.horses. They're very highly strung and I do not know what effect wind
:09:40. > :09:46.turbines this close will have on them. The company behind the scheme
:09:46. > :09:50.say that turbines will benefit the area. They will produce enough to
:09:50. > :09:57.electricity to power over 1,300 homes which means all the
:09:57. > :10:01.surrounding villages. It is a windy day today and we're confident it
:10:01. > :10:06.will produce a significant amount of electricity. Local people
:10:06. > :10:12.against the development are worried that the airflow will be do so --
:10:12. > :10:17.disturbed and send dust from the cement works to pollute the
:10:17. > :10:22.countryside. We have undertaken a very detailed study of the
:10:22. > :10:26.emissions. That categorically shows there will be no increase at ground
:10:26. > :10:30.level in emissions. Chimneys by their virtue are designed to send
:10:31. > :10:37.what comes out up and over the turbines, so we are confident there
:10:37. > :10:44.is no issue there. With me now are two of the people you saw briefly
:10:44. > :10:52.in that report. The company says there is no evidence that pollution
:10:52. > :10:56.will come out of this Chenies down to ground level. Know where in
:10:56. > :11:02.Newark has two wind turbines been located close to a cement works. --
:11:02. > :11:07.know where in the Europe. Our concern is that the turbines will
:11:07. > :11:16.take energy out to the atmosphere and deposit what comes out of the
:11:16. > :11:22.chimney is N S cement works. -- chimneys from the cement works.
:11:22. > :11:26.have seen images of the turbines, what is the problem? We really
:11:26. > :11:31.would like Rutland County Council to ask the developers to put up a
:11:31. > :11:38.balloon at the height of these turbines so residents can visualise
:11:38. > :11:44.the impact these turbines will have on the village. Surely Rutland
:11:44. > :11:49.needs renewable energy? We're not against renewable energy - the
:11:49. > :11:54.country needs it but the specific concern is the location, next door
:11:54. > :11:57.to a cement works. Thank you very much. The timescale is that
:11:57. > :12:02.planning permission should be granted in May but there have been
:12:02. > :12:06.a lot of objections so the timescale could slip back.
:12:06. > :12:10.Thank you very much. A head teacher says he's going to
:12:10. > :12:12.take on Ofsted. In a highly unusual step, he is appealing against the
:12:12. > :12:15.verdict of government inspectors who visited his school. Steve Monks
:12:15. > :12:18.says he feels it is unfair that Sinfin Community School has been
:12:18. > :12:28.branded as failing - just months after recording record exam results.
:12:28. > :12:31.
:12:31. > :12:37.From Derby, Simon Hare reports. A year seven English lesson at the
:12:37. > :12:41.school. A school which has just been placed in special measures.
:12:41. > :12:47.The s is a really good school. There is a few things which need
:12:47. > :12:53.improvement but most things I like here. I do not think this school is
:12:53. > :12:59.a failure. The head teacher says it is not a description he recognises.
:12:59. > :13:03.Last year it achieved its best-ever GCSE grades. Also the most improved
:13:03. > :13:09.exam results in Derby so he is planning on making a formal
:13:09. > :13:16.complaint. I think the school is the best it has ever been. Also the
:13:16. > :13:21.ethos, the atmosphere, the teaching, it has never been better. During
:13:21. > :13:26.the two-day inspection Ofsted said they had seen problems with the
:13:26. > :13:31.behaviour of some pupils so this school asked for examples. They
:13:31. > :13:35.complained about a boy bouncing a ball in their chorister, and they
:13:35. > :13:43.complained about his two students having a fight but that was a play
:13:43. > :13:49.fight. -- in the corridor or. school has improved a lot of. They
:13:49. > :13:54.do not take that into consideration. We're not all bad pupils, nor are
:13:54. > :13:59.the teachers bad, we should not be classed as a failure. Ofsted says
:13:59. > :14:09.it says complaints seriously and will correct things quickly but it
:14:09. > :14:12.will not change judgments just because they are unpopular.
:14:12. > :14:14.Hidden cameras could be installed on the A38 in Derbyshire to catch
:14:14. > :14:17.drivers dropping litter. Amber Valley Borough Council spent 6,000
:14:17. > :14:20.last April collecting rubbish from the roadside. Workers picked up
:14:20. > :14:23.around 10 tonnes of waste. The council is planning to go back
:14:23. > :14:26.later this year and says it could put up cameras in lay-bys.
:14:26. > :14:30.Plans for a new 5,000 seater velodrome in Derby have been given
:14:30. > :14:33.the go-ahead. The 28 million centre will be built at Pride Park.
:14:33. > :14:36.It will also act as a major concert venue and have facilities for
:14:36. > :14:41.basketball and badminton. City councillors approved the plans at a
:14:41. > :14:43.meeting last night. Schoolchildren have been deserting
:14:43. > :14:47.their classrooms in favour of the great outdoors - with science
:14:47. > :14:50.lessons taking place at Attenborough nature reserve.
:14:50. > :14:52.Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust has unveiled a new science project,
:14:52. > :14:55.designed to be a fun way of teaching children about science,
:14:55. > :15:05.nature and our impact on the environment. Rebecca Sheehan
:15:05. > :15:09.
:15:10. > :15:14.reports. Today's class was slightly different for pupils from
:15:14. > :15:19.Kensington junior school - they are the first to take part in the new
:15:19. > :15:26.Wild science programme. The children are going to be scientists
:15:26. > :15:34.for the day, performing experiments to look at the human impact on net
:15:34. > :15:41.environment at Attenborough. It was hands-on right from the start as
:15:41. > :15:51.the children got to learn exactly what birds eat. We partnered up and
:15:51. > :15:55.
:15:55. > :16:01.we got appellate to die sector. found a pelvis. I found a lot of
:16:01. > :16:08.nice parts. It was revolting. everything was revolting as they
:16:08. > :16:12.went outside to check the weather. They will be looking at when speed,
:16:12. > :16:18.direction and temperature and measuring that. All the schools
:16:18. > :16:22.which do this project, they record the data and we hope we end up with
:16:22. > :16:29.good detect each year to see trains. We would talk about positive things
:16:29. > :16:34.that they can do individually to minimise impact on the environment.
:16:34. > :16:40.The project will benefit 1,500 children in East Midlands and it is
:16:40. > :16:44.hoped the programme will inspire young scientists of the future.
:16:44. > :16:50.If you're wondering why this man is here on the sofa tonight - it is
:16:50. > :17:00.because we have been deserted by Dom. As you about see, it seems he

:17:37. > :17:41.
:17:41. > :17:47.Filming starts of a movie set on the Golden Mile. Can Leicester City
:17:47. > :17:52.make it to Wembley? I do not know! The big weekend coming up for
:17:52. > :17:55.Leicester City. They play at Chelsea on Sunday in the quarter-
:17:55. > :17:58.finals of the FA Cup. The foxes were given 6000 tickets for the
:17:58. > :18:07.game. They sold out really quickly last Sunday with the fans hoping to
:18:07. > :18:13.see their side cause a shock. Can the one club left cause a shock?
:18:13. > :18:19.Hopefully we can show how we play. It will be a big game for Leicester.
:18:19. > :18:26.It will cause a shock, who know his? It is 30 years since the Fox's
:18:26. > :18:33.last reached a semi-final. Chelsea are hot favourites. They have won
:18:33. > :18:43.three of the last five FA Cup's. Come on Leicester! So it's 1,000
:18:43. > :18:46.
:18:46. > :18:51.fans are heading in hope. -- 6,000 fans. They are pretty good, yes.
:18:51. > :18:55.The task is mighty bash Chelsea are six times Cup winners and more used
:18:55. > :18:59.to mixing it with European neighbours than teams from the
:18:59. > :19:07.championship but Leicester believes this could be their year.
:19:07. > :19:10.Chelsea do look to be in goalscoring form all of a sudden.
:19:10. > :19:13.They got four in their European tie earlier this week. One man who
:19:13. > :19:16.could be key forget the foxes on Sunday is goalkeeper Kaspar
:19:16. > :19:23.Schmeichel. He knows all about winning the FA Cup because it is in
:19:23. > :19:29.his family... He was seven when his dad won it for the first time. He
:19:30. > :19:33.won it twice more. One of the victories was against Chelsea.
:19:33. > :19:40.is an awesome competition and I have grown up watching it. I have
:19:40. > :19:46.been lucky enough to be close to it through my dad. It is an amazing
:19:46. > :19:51.competition and anything can happen. Yes, I think everyone who is lucky
:19:51. > :19:57.enough to win it just enjoys it immensely. All these years on, he

:20:04. > :20:09.with the great European performance this week. -- opponents. I cannot
:20:09. > :20:12.wait. It is the type of game and opponents you want to play again.
:20:12. > :20:17.The Foxes worked hard at training this morning but why are their
:20:17. > :20:22.chances? They did beat Norwich in the last round. It will be a
:20:22. > :20:30.difficult game. We would just have to be at the top of her game to
:20:30. > :20:34.match them. We have their capability to do it. -- our again.
:20:34. > :20:39.For a lot of us, this is the furthest we have got in the
:20:39. > :20:43.competition and we just want to do the best for the club. We have
:20:43. > :20:47.6,000 fans coming and you want to make them proud.
:20:47. > :20:50.One man who knows all about playing for both teams is Leicester City
:20:50. > :20:54.ambassador Alan Birchenall. He was at Chelsea in the Swinging Sixties,
:20:54. > :21:01.so needless to say he enjoyed his time there. Earlier today we caught
:21:01. > :21:08.up with him and asked him about his time there. In it was a brilliant
:21:08. > :21:12.period. Chelsea where showbiz team then, I remember Sir Richard
:21:12. > :21:17.Attenborough and I am looking forward to meeting him again. There
:21:17. > :21:21.were lots of famous stars like Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis and
:21:21. > :21:27.the legendary Raquel Welch even visited which caused a great stir
:21:27. > :21:33.in the dressing-room I can tell you. Sir Richard brought her round the
:21:33. > :21:41.dressing room which was interesting! It really will be a
:21:41. > :21:46.tough game. Have Leicester got what it takes? We are going down as a
:21:46. > :21:51.football club with an inconsistent season, to be honest. When we
:21:51. > :22:01.argued we are very did. Hopefully, if we can play at the top of her
:22:01. > :22:05.
:22:05. > :22:07.form, we might just shock Chelsea. -- when we are good we are very kid.
:22:07. > :22:09.-- good. Leicester were due to be playing
:22:10. > :22:12.Nottingham Forest in the championship tomorrow so that game
