:00:04. > :00:07.This is East Midlands Today with Anne Davies and me, Dominic Heale.

:00:07. > :00:15.Tonight: operations are cancelled for a second week at two of our

:00:15. > :00:20.busiest hospitals. Non-urgent operations are postponed

:00:20. > :00:25.in at Nottingham as medics as lacy prize in emergencies. I can only

:00:25. > :00:29.apologise to the patients and their families for the occurrence of an

:00:29. > :00:32.operation being cancelled. Last summer's disturbances, a man

:00:32. > :00:38.admits tried to burn down a police station.

:00:38. > :00:43.Of also denied: at remembering Sam, a teenage victim of cardiac arrest

:00:43. > :00:50.in the young. He lit his life to the follow and it is so said that

:00:50. > :00:54.he got -- society didn't get a chance to fulfil his dreams.

:01:08. > :01:11.Welcome to Monday's programme. First tonight: a hospital boss has

:01:11. > :01:15.apologised for the cancellation of hundreds of operations in

:01:15. > :01:18.Nottingham. Dr Peter Homa who's in charge of the Queen's Medical

:01:18. > :01:23.Centre and City Hospital, admits the disruption to patients' lives

:01:23. > :01:26.is unacceptable. It's a shortage of hospital beds

:01:26. > :01:36.that's causing many of the cancellations. But for patients

:01:36. > :01:36.

:01:36. > :01:40.caught up in the delays, the situation can seem baffling.

:01:40. > :01:44.Third time unlucky, Geoff should have been getting ready for

:01:44. > :01:49.hospital today but an operation to treat the impact of cancer on her

:01:49. > :01:53.spine was put off again. It means he is still not walking as tall as

:01:53. > :02:00.he would like. High hopes dashed. It has not been music to his ears.

:02:00. > :02:04.He just want to get your life back together. You get yourself all

:02:04. > :02:08.geared up to have an operation and obviously, you are concerned and

:02:08. > :02:13.worried as to what that is going to be like. And then it is all

:02:13. > :02:18.cancelled so you seem to be at a loss. He is not the only one. 541

:02:18. > :02:22.operations have been cancelled this year. It was bad with 41 last week

:02:22. > :02:28.put off and 10 put off today. They included routine operations on a

:02:28. > :02:31.finger, a knee replacement and surgery to remove Lenin plant. The

:02:31. > :02:35.problem the hospital says is a surge in emergencies, leaving not

:02:35. > :02:41.enough beds for routine planned surgery. Today, the chief executive

:02:41. > :02:45.said sorry, admitting it is unacceptable. I can only apologise

:02:45. > :02:48.to the patients and families that have experienced the distressing

:02:48. > :02:52.occurrence of an operation being cancelled. All of the staff who

:02:52. > :02:57.work at the hospital understand intimately how upsetting that is.

:02:57. > :03:05.But I would like to say that all this within the hospital are

:03:05. > :03:09.working absolutely flat out to make sure the emergency and non- urgent

:03:09. > :03:13.cases receive an excellent service. The situation has been going on

:03:13. > :03:16.since the beginning of the year. When will it be sorted out? We are

:03:17. > :03:22.in the process of sorting it out. We have put additional beds in

:03:22. > :03:32.place. With some on the way, they hope things will East and the

:03:32. > :03:32.

:03:32. > :03:35.situation is being reviewed daily. Nottingham is becoming a major

:03:35. > :03:41.trauma unit, the most serious injuries in the East Midlands will

:03:41. > :03:44.be dealt with a. The services being built up gradually. The hospital

:03:44. > :03:49.stresses that that is not having an impact on others. They say it is

:03:49. > :03:53.down to the usual emergencies coming through the door and a

:03:53. > :03:57.shortage of beds. Referred this has been going on for a long time so

:03:57. > :04:01.there is a lot of pressure to sort it out. -- we have heard.

:04:01. > :04:05.People who were expecting treatment tomorrow, what should they do?

:04:05. > :04:12.The latest news tonight is that seven operations, as least seven,

:04:12. > :04:16.have been cancelled tomorrow. Those patients have been counteracted --

:04:16. > :04:19.contacted by phone. But the duration could change but the

:04:19. > :04:24.advice this week is if you got their routine, planned operation

:04:24. > :04:28.coming up, to expect it to go ahead unless you here otherwise. But with

:04:28. > :04:33.the situation being reviewed daily, there could be more cancellations

:04:33. > :04:36.on the way, until this whole thing is sorted out.

:04:36. > :04:38.Next tonight, a Nottingham man has admitted trying to burn down a

:04:39. > :04:42.police station with petrol bombs. Curtis De Jean will be sentenced

:04:42. > :04:48.after 14 other men stand trial for rioting.

:04:48. > :04:51.Their case is due to begin tomorrow. Jeremy Ball has been at the Crown

:04:51. > :04:53.Court in Nottingham today. And he joins us from outside the City's

:04:53. > :04:57.Canning Circus police station which was damaged in the attack. Jeremy,

:04:57. > :05:04.tell us about Curtis De Jean. What did you hear about him at the court

:05:04. > :05:07.today? This afternoon, he admitted

:05:08. > :05:13.basically carrying out an arson attack which could have put lives

:05:13. > :05:16.in station. He also admitted a separate charge of carrying

:05:16. > :05:21.explosives of the court heard that involved him coming here with

:05:21. > :05:25.petrol bombs. This all emerged just as a jury was being sworn in this

:05:25. > :05:29.afternoon. And what does that Dury have to

:05:29. > :05:33.decide when the case does get started tomorrow?

:05:33. > :05:37.They are going to be hearing a case against 14 other men. This is a

:05:37. > :05:42.case against 14 men and boys who come from estates across the city

:05:42. > :05:45.of Nottingham. Today, we heard those 14 have all denied a charge

:05:45. > :05:51.of riot and there have also been accused of violent disorder. We

:05:51. > :05:53.have also heard that six of those 14 are also accused of involvement

:05:53. > :05:57.in an arson attack at Cannings circus.

:05:57. > :06:02.We were told at the time there was not officially any rioting in

:06:02. > :06:06.Nottingham. You will remember there was huge

:06:06. > :06:12.political controversy over this. The authorities in Nottingham have

:06:12. > :06:19.always existed -- insisted the trouble in the cystic -- city was

:06:19. > :06:23.not serious enough to be described as rioting. What has changed now is

:06:23. > :06:26.that the Crown Prosecution Service have looked at this case. They have

:06:26. > :06:30.decided that there could be enough evidence that there was rioting

:06:30. > :06:33.here. We have heard this is because at least 12 people are alleged to

:06:33. > :06:39.have been involved in this trouble together. We will get details

:06:39. > :06:41.tomorrow. Police are investigating the death

:06:41. > :06:45.of an 80-year-old woman at a Derbyshire care home after reports

:06:45. > :06:48.that a wardrobe may have fallen on her. Police were called to the

:06:48. > :06:52.Coach House Nursing Home in Milford near Belper on Easter Monday

:06:52. > :06:54.morning. A post-mortem examination was inconclusive, and police are

:06:54. > :06:59.now working with the Health and Safety Executive to investigate the

:06:59. > :07:02.death. Police are trying to trace party-

:07:02. > :07:07.goers at a hotel in Nottingham, after two people were injured by

:07:07. > :07:10.pellets. Officers were called to the Stage Hotel on Gregory

:07:10. > :07:16.Boulevard on Saturday night. A 17- year-old man and 36-year-old woman

:07:16. > :07:21.were found with minor leg injuries. Police say it's not yet clear what

:07:21. > :07:25.weapon fired the pellets. MPs are to discuss the future of

:07:25. > :07:27.the Midland Mainline tonight. A Commons debate is scheduled for

:07:27. > :07:35.this evening, with changes such as electrification and longer trains

:07:35. > :07:38.up for discussion. The leader of Nottinghamshire County Council, Kay

:07:38. > :07:41.Cutts, has written to eight local MPs asking for their support. The

:07:41. > :07:45.authority says improving the line would cut journey times to London

:07:45. > :07:52.and boost the local economy. Still to come on the programme: the

:07:52. > :07:55.latest in our occasional series on the health of our High Streets.

:07:55. > :07:59.The Prime Minister has launched the Conservative election campaign in

:07:59. > :08:09.Amber Valley. Is that a sign of the voters are about to swing against

:08:09. > :08:11.

:08:11. > :08:14.Next tonight: it's official, the whole of the East Midlands has been

:08:14. > :08:21.declared a drought zone. There are no hosepipe bans in place

:08:21. > :08:23.yet because public supplies aren't affected. But rivers, streams and

:08:23. > :08:31.farms are showing signs of the driest 18 months since records

:08:31. > :08:34.began. These crops are safe from are

:08:34. > :08:40.growing at the moment but if the dry spell carries on, farmers could

:08:40. > :08:44.be in trouble. It means we are very low wall reserve water and crops

:08:44. > :08:48.are looking OK because they've had a bit of rain. But we know there is

:08:48. > :08:51.nothing down below at all. If the dry spell continues, there is

:08:51. > :08:55.nothing down there to feed the crops and it could get very serious.

:08:55. > :09:00.What is happening here is happening across the East Midlands. In the

:09:00. > :09:03.last two months alone, there have has just been 40 % of the average

:09:03. > :09:10.rainfall and in the last 18 months, it has been the driest since

:09:10. > :09:13.records began. The rain we've had of late is too little, too late.

:09:13. > :09:23.What we are urging people to do over the summer is be wise with

:09:23. > :09:28.their water used. It is not just fish that will suffer. Back at the

:09:28. > :09:38.farm and for John, the drug could be costly. If we don't get the

:09:38. > :09:41.

:09:41. > :09:45.reins, the other crops suffer and this could be very expensive for us.

:09:45. > :09:50.We are talking about an environmental drought. It is a risk

:09:50. > :09:54.to the environment, not the water supply. If we are wise with our

:09:54. > :09:58.water use, we avoid the possibility of getting one next year.

:09:58. > :10:07.advice for all of us is save water now in the hope that things will

:10:07. > :10:09.not get worse in the future. The Prime Minister was in the East

:10:09. > :10:12.Midlands today to kick-start the Conservatives' local election

:10:12. > :10:22.campaign. He spoke to activists in Amber Valley, where the Tories face

:10:22. > :10:30.

:10:30. > :10:34.a strong challenge from Labour. After his Far East tour last week,

:10:34. > :10:39.to he was an Alfred will. Inside the committee centre, there was a

:10:39. > :10:43.noticeable lack of the exotica, just a platform of LEA eager --

:10:43. > :10:47.eager Amber Valley candidates hoping to get elected.

:10:47. > :10:51.Traditionally, Amber Valley is classic swing territory but for the

:10:51. > :10:55.last 12 years it has been safely held by the Conservatives has to be

:10:55. > :11:01.third of seats are being contested here on 3rd May and the Prime

:11:01. > :11:05.Minister's visit may indicate some party jitters. This is the real

:11:05. > :11:10.heart of England, because of hard work, independent minds and strong

:11:10. > :11:15.communities. But the trouble with independently minded voters is they

:11:15. > :11:18.might not always vote for you. have frozen the council tax as

:11:18. > :11:21.Labour half oppose that council tax freeze. There are many Conservative

:11:21. > :11:25.councils I could choose from but here we are, in the heart of the

:11:25. > :11:28.country, a councillor is giving good value for money. We need to

:11:28. > :11:32.help them with their family budgets and the council tax freezes a good

:11:33. > :11:36.way to do that. 25 miles away in Nottingham, Labour were unveiling

:11:36. > :11:39.their poster campaign to urge voters to reject the Prime

:11:39. > :11:43.Minister's ambitions for a directly elected mayor. The referendum is

:11:44. > :11:48.also being held on May 3rd. At the number Valley, that prompted a

:11:48. > :11:52.further round of bashing of Nottingham Labour. The only council

:11:52. > :11:56.that will not be transparent, that's right, Labour controlled not

:11:56. > :12:01.ago. Let's take that argument for transparency out around the country.

:12:01. > :12:04.Afterwards, the prime minister warmed to his theme. I hope people

:12:04. > :12:09.in Nottingham will vote for a mayor, someone who can give great

:12:09. > :12:13.leadership. Mayors are a good way to have proper accountability and

:12:13. > :12:18.to have real leadership in our cities. The Tory faithful left

:12:18. > :12:24.feeling upbeat, after all it has not heard -- every day you get a

:12:24. > :12:27.Prime Minister at your local election launch.

:12:27. > :12:32.A family says people need to be more aware of the risk of

:12:32. > :12:35.potentially fatal heart problems in young people.

:12:35. > :12:37.The parents of Sam Wright from Derby were speaking at a charity

:12:38. > :12:42.event in memory of the 19-year-old, who died suddenly just before

:12:42. > :12:45.Christmas. The event was to highlight the

:12:45. > :12:55.shocking statistic that 12 under- 35s a week die in Britain from

:12:55. > :12:58.

:12:58. > :13:02.often undiagnosed heart problems. A few moments of enjoyment at a

:13:02. > :13:06.fundraiser for Elaine Wright, Kevin Wright and their remaining son,

:13:06. > :13:09.Mark. They helped helps organise the event in Derby it as -- in

:13:09. > :13:13.memory of their son had died suddenly just before Christmas, on

:13:13. > :13:18.his return home from a run. Sam's friends remember him as full of

:13:18. > :13:23.life. He was a lot of fun. I don't know, it's weird not having him

:13:23. > :13:25.about now because this would have been one of the things he would

:13:25. > :13:29.have turned up to and would have been running around doing

:13:29. > :13:35.everything. If there was anyone who lived their life to the fullest, it

:13:35. > :13:39.was some and it is sad he never got the chance to fulfil his dreams.

:13:39. > :13:43.During the busy event, a moment of reflection as well for the family.

:13:43. > :13:51.Some had been a lifeguard and instructor at the Seoul poll and a

:13:51. > :13:57.keen sportsman. 12 young and fit help the people are dying every

:13:57. > :14:03.week and it is terrible. The family says the recent case in the

:14:03. > :14:07.football world highlights how, on these problems are. This has helped

:14:07. > :14:13.increase awareness and hope it will help save more people. They also

:14:13. > :14:18.believe greater public access to Diouf liberators could start --

:14:18. > :14:22.help those like Reece Geoffrey who died last year. If we could get

:14:22. > :14:29.more people aware of it and hopefully save more lives.

:14:29. > :14:33.fund-raising event raised over 7,000 for a charity but the rights

:14:33. > :14:43.hope that if publicity hope -- helps one more family avoid the

:14:43. > :14:50.

:14:50. > :14:53.pain they've suffered, Sam's death will not be entirely in vain.

:14:53. > :14:56.Next tonight - more on our occasional series The Street where

:14:56. > :14:59.we follow the fortunes of three shopping areas in the East Midlands.

:14:59. > :15:01.Tonight we're back in Beeston which is seeing big changes as

:15:01. > :15:04.Nottingham's tram network is extended through the town.

:15:04. > :15:10.The works are forcing the closure of a high street chain store. And

:15:10. > :15:15.that's provoked a furious response. Removing what's left of Wilkinson's

:15:15. > :15:19.in Beeston. You may not believe this chain-store could provoke such

:15:19. > :15:22.strong emotion but its closure has stoked up fury in this town. The

:15:22. > :15:27.building is being demolished to make way for the extension to

:15:27. > :15:31.Nottingham's tram network. The stores shut this weekend, despite

:15:31. > :15:36.2000 residents signing a position demanding that the store remained.

:15:36. > :15:45.It is going to be like a ghost town here. I cannot imagine life without

:15:45. > :15:49.it. I can imagine life without the tram. Wilkinson's is a part of

:15:49. > :15:56.everybody's everyday life. Every time he went in the store, it was

:15:56. > :16:01.for. Everybody is going to miss this door. Everybody unspoken

:16:02. > :16:06.doesn't want the tram. Nobody is in favour of the tram. Nobody.

:16:06. > :16:10.source of support for the tram does exist in the form of councillor,

:16:10. > :16:14.Steve Barber. It's terrible, a disaster that they are chosen to

:16:14. > :16:23.close at this stage, when they could have relocated. It had a

:16:23. > :16:28.number of years to get their act together. It is not the trams fault.

:16:28. > :16:31.The tram is an easy scapegoat. what of Wilkinson's future? It is

:16:31. > :16:35.not looking hopeful. The company says it has genuinely been

:16:35. > :16:40.overwhelmed by the strength of feeling expressed by customers but

:16:40. > :16:50.it says in spite of best efforts, it hasn't found anywhere that is

:16:50. > :16:53.

:16:54. > :16:56.suitable, where it can relocate. First tonight, all of our

:16:56. > :16:59.Championship teams went into the weekends fixtures with something to

:16:59. > :17:02.play for, but only one of them came out with anything! Leicester City

:17:02. > :17:10.and Derby were hoping to strengthen their bid for the play-offs, while

:17:10. > :17:16.Forest were looking to distance themselves from the relegation zone.

:17:16. > :17:26.Leicester were looking for three points that the new stadium to

:17:26. > :17:28.

:17:28. > :17:34.bolster their hopes. But things didn't go to plan. Daniel

:17:34. > :17:38.Drinkwater brought one back but they only have three games left.

:17:38. > :17:43.We've been playing catch-up for a while so we need a lot to go for us

:17:44. > :17:48.and we got to win our remaining games. It is a tough call but it

:17:48. > :17:53.today is disappointing. It was a similar story at Derby, whose own

:17:53. > :17:57.hopes for making the play-offs were left remote, after this goal.

:17:57. > :18:01.was a brilliant finish. The lad has come on, put his head down and

:18:01. > :18:05.smashed the ball and hit the target. It's something I wish one of our

:18:05. > :18:10.players would have done. We've had similar situations, if not better

:18:10. > :18:15.ones, and failed to do that. Better news for the Reds who picked up a

:18:15. > :18:20.potentially vital home. Against Blackpool. Forest are now seven

:18:20. > :18:25.points clear of the drop zone. Blackpool are a tough nut to crack.

:18:25. > :18:28.There are good team. The counter- attack very well. We knew it was

:18:28. > :18:32.going to be a tough game but we thought probably we deserved the

:18:32. > :18:35.three points. While major issues for our

:18:35. > :18:38.Championship clubs are all but settled, League One Notts County

:18:38. > :18:42.will see the drama continue to the end of the season. And hopefully

:18:42. > :18:52.beyond. The Magpies are in a battle to get the final playoff spot. The

:18:52. > :19:00.

:19:00. > :19:04.competition is Carlisle, Stevenage Notts have been out of the

:19:04. > :19:08.championship for 17 years. Their journey back, heavily rests on this

:19:08. > :19:14.game, against a team who won play- off rivals and breathing down their

:19:14. > :19:18.necks on a potential road to Wembley. So, Keith, what you

:19:18. > :19:28.normally do on the bus on the way to the ground? Watch a bit of

:19:28. > :19:36.

:19:36. > :19:46.football. It is a big day today. A lot of them are coming around to

:19:46. > :19:51.

:19:51. > :20:01.him and appreciate his style of I was allowed to sit on the bench

:20:01. > :20:08.

:20:08. > :20:13.with my own, tiny camera, and we The view from the away dug-out is

:20:13. > :20:20.actually the worst in the house. But the pace of the game looks so

:20:20. > :20:24.much faster close-up. There are minutes to go now and if not can

:20:25. > :20:28.come on, this would be a brilliant... As the clock ran down,

:20:28. > :20:36.Damian Stuart headed a free kick off the line to give them the press

:20:36. > :20:39.that advantage -- precious advantage.

:20:39. > :20:41.You can see a longer version of that report on tonight's Late Kick

:20:41. > :20:44.Off, together with extended highlights from the Championship.

:20:44. > :20:47.Former Leicester and Forest man Stan Collymore is on the sofa too.

:20:47. > :20:50.One last bit of football news before we move on. Well done to

:20:50. > :20:53.Mansfield Town, who have secured their spot in the Blue Square

:20:53. > :20:55.Premier play-offs. A return to the Football League perhaps just three

:20:55. > :20:58.games away. Some sporting teams just have the

:20:58. > :21:01.knack of timing their runs of form perfectly. So it is with Leicester

:21:01. > :21:08.Tigers. If you want to win Rugby's Premiership, the secret is to

:21:08. > :21:12.finish strongly. Tigers are going so well, they're setting records.

:21:12. > :21:16.The game at Northampton Saints could have been really tough.

:21:16. > :21:26.Usually a feisty local derby between teams close in the

:21:26. > :21:39.

:21:39. > :21:42.standings. Instead, Tigers maul at With all of that in mind, they were

:21:42. > :21:48.not going to leave Franklins Gardens without getting on the

:21:48. > :21:53.scoreboard. The try was quality. Five bonus wins on the trot, a new

:21:53. > :21:56.record, as was the scoreline. And Nottingham Rugby did all they

:21:56. > :21:59.could do by posting a bonus point win at Doncaster. But it wasn't

:21:59. > :22:03.enough and they're out of the Championship playoffs race with a

:22:03. > :22:05.game left to play. Nottingham Canoist and Olympic

:22:05. > :22:09.Silver Medal winner David Florence has qualified for the London

:22:09. > :22:12.Olympics in two events. Some time back Florence set himself the

:22:12. > :22:15.target of making history by winning Olympic medals both on his own and

:22:16. > :22:18.as a pair with partner Richard Hounslow. Some brilliant racing in

:22:18. > :22:24.the qualification event at Lee Valley means that he's still on

:22:24. > :22:28.track to do it. Not so great in the Kayak for Campbell Walsh, though.

:22:28. > :22:31.Distressed and angry with himself for missing out.

:22:31. > :22:34.The pressure was on the former Nottingham Doctor Tim Brabants at

:22:34. > :22:38.the weekend. He won gold in Beijing but has struggled with form after

:22:38. > :22:41.injury and still has to qualify for London. So it's down to a best of

:22:41. > :22:44.three race-off and Brabants, in the blue, held off his rival Paul

:22:44. > :22:54.Wycherley by three one hundreths of a second in the first contest at

:22:54. > :22:58.Holme Pierrepont and become national champion. The pressure is

:22:58. > :23:03.on. It is unimportant here, an Olympic year. I'm feeling strong

:23:03. > :23:06.now and looking forward to the Olympics. Have been watching people

:23:06. > :23:10.qualify in the other sports and I want to be one of those people

:23:10. > :23:13.wearing the GB kit. And the next race-off is in May.

:23:13. > :23:15.Couple of final things to mention: In cricket there's been a flying

:23:15. > :23:18.start to the County Championship for both Nottinghamshire, who are

:23:18. > :23:21.on top of Division One, and Derbyshire, on top of Division two.

:23:21. > :23:25.Both two games, two wins. And in Hockey, Leicester Ladies are

:23:25. > :23:27.national outdoor Champions after beating Reading this weekend. Sadly

:23:27. > :23:30.Beeston's men couldn't match them. They went out in the semi-finals.

:23:30. > :23:36.But that's a brilliant performance by Leicester's women. Outdoor and

:23:36. > :23:40.indoor champs this season. Continuing with a sporting theme

:23:40. > :23:44.really and a look ahead to the London Marathon next weekend and a

:23:44. > :23:47.remarkable woman who's going to be breaking a few records. Yes, Karen

:23:47. > :23:54.Hodgson from Derbyshire needed a new heart in 2006 after suffering

:23:54. > :23:57.from cardiomyopathy. Now she's on track to become the first woman

:23:57. > :24:05.heart transplant patient to ever run in the big event as Tom Brown

:24:05. > :24:09.reports. Today, she is looking forward to

:24:09. > :24:14.her first marathon but looking back, Carole Hodgson knows this they may

:24:14. > :24:21.never have come. I was told I had about a year to live. One year to

:24:21. > :24:26.18 months. I went on to the transplant waiting list. That was a

:24:26. > :24:33.very nerve-racking time because I knew that a lot of people don't

:24:33. > :24:37.make it but I was very lucky. And here I am now, a week away from the

:24:37. > :24:42.big day. I cannot believe it. lived with cardiomyopathy for more

:24:42. > :24:46.than 15 years. She doesn't know who donated her new hardback in 2006

:24:46. > :24:51.but they remain her biggest motivation. I feel I owe it to the

:24:51. > :24:56.person now as well, but as well of the big reasons why a exercise and

:24:56. > :25:00.from, because that kind person signed up so I could have this

:25:00. > :25:03.chance. I want to make the most of it. It has been a long journeys is

:25:03. > :25:08.the day of the transplant but now for Karen and her husband, the

:25:08. > :25:14.finishing line is inside. She is running it for the donor and for

:25:14. > :25:17.her family so it is going to be quite overwhelming. I think there

:25:17. > :25:22.are going to be lots of shoulders to cry on at the end. A mixture of

:25:22. > :25:32.relief and exhaustion and gratitude. It is something I never thought I

:25:32. > :25:38.

:25:38. > :25:42.would be able to do. Things are changing tonight and

:25:42. > :25:46.we've got a wet week in store. It might be a band of rain or it could

:25:46. > :25:50.also be showers as well, on and off towards the end of the week. We

:25:50. > :25:55.will keep a close eye on the area of clothes -- I pressure coming in.

:25:55. > :26:02.This was the shot first thing and thank you to Geoff for sending the

:26:02. > :26:05.sin. We have got wet and windy weather on the way tonight. There

:26:05. > :26:08.is an area of low pressure starting to move towards the country and it

:26:08. > :26:13.will produce a band of rain and some very strong winds across the

:26:13. > :26:16.East Midlands as it comes towards the east. But the moment, we still

:26:16. > :26:19.got the broken cloud with us but it will gradually start to increase

:26:19. > :26:22.during the latter part of the evening. Then you'll start to see

:26:22. > :26:26.that rain coming through into the early hours of the morning. That is

:26:26. > :26:31.when the wind will also start to strengthen. A strong and gusty

:26:31. > :26:35.south-westerly wind. Gusts of up to 40 mph as that rain band works its

:26:35. > :26:38.way eastwards. A minimum temperature tonight of four Celsius.

:26:38. > :26:42.We are still around during the rush hour period tomorrow morning so a

:26:42. > :26:46.lot of surface water and spray and gusty winds as well. As it clears

:26:46. > :26:48.the way eastwards, it leaves us with Sky's stars into Brighton but

:26:49. > :26:54.there will be further blustery showers coming through. It will be

:26:54. > :26:57.one of those wet and windy days with a little bit of sunshine. A

:26:57. > :27:00.maximum daytime temperature of 12 Celsius. There is another wet day

:27:00. > :27:04.on Wednesday. A band of rain pushing its way northwards

:27:04. > :27:08.throughout the daytime. The wind is not quite a strong on Wednesday so

:27:08. > :27:12.that rain band a little bit slow moving but it is much needed. We

:27:12. > :27:15.are going to stay quiet and subtle as well as we get closer to the

:27:15. > :27:18.weekend. The temperatures what they should be for the time of year.

:27:18. > :27:21.Once the rain band clears on Wednesday leaving us with a showery

:27:22. > :27:31.theme again for Thursday and Friday, a little bit nippy at night time
