:00:21. > :00:29.Chancellor banged the drum for business on another pre-election

:00:29. > :00:31.visit to Derbyshire. Talking to the business owner here, he tells me

:00:31. > :00:38.that the government economic policies are helping his business

:00:38. > :00:42.and helping him employ people. We are with Leon Haslam in hospital

:00:42. > :00:47.as he recovers from his crash at the weekend.

:00:47. > :00:57.And could the success of musicians like Jake Aga be a sign of a rapidly

:00:57. > :01:00.

:01:00. > :01:03.growing music industry in First tonight - a murder trial opens

:01:03. > :01:09.with grisly claims that a former boxer was murdered and cut up by his

:01:09. > :01:13.own carer. Shaun Cummins' body was dismembered

:01:13. > :01:23.and put in the freezer at his home. Our reporter Luke Hanrahan was at

:01:23. > :01:23.

:01:23. > :01:27.Leicester Crown Court for the start of Thomas Dunkley's murder trial.

:01:27. > :01:31.In his heyday in the 1990s, Shaun Cummins was at the top of his game,

:01:31. > :01:35.WBA light middleweight champion in 1994. He retired from the

:01:35. > :01:38.competitive ring the following year but in 2004 he was involved in a

:01:38. > :01:44.motorcycle accident. He was left paralysed from the chest down and

:01:44. > :01:51.virtually bed-ridden. After that, he needed care at home. And it was that

:01:52. > :01:55.home that became a crime scene last year. The former boxer was last seen

:01:55. > :01:58.alive by community nurses on September first. 11 days later they

:01:58. > :02:01.still hadn't heard from him. That triggered a search. Police

:02:01. > :02:05.discovered Shaun Cummins' body had been cut up into ten pieces and put

:02:05. > :02:15.into freezers. 25,000 had been taken from his bank accounts and the

:02:15. > :02:20.trust fund set up to pay for his care. In the early morning, on the

:02:20. > :02:25.northbound carriageway of the M1 near Wakefield, Sean Cummins's

:02:25. > :02:28.informal carer Thomas Dunkley was arrested. The prosecution QC said in

:02:28. > :02:33.court today that having killed Shaun Cummins, he left the body where it

:02:33. > :02:37.was for a few days before it again to decompose. Dunkley embarked on a

:02:37. > :02:42.plan to try and cover up what he had done in a callous and deliberate

:02:42. > :02:45.way. The court heard that, using the ex-boxer's money, he went out and

:02:45. > :02:51.bought a chainsaw, gloves, overalls, mask and goggles. It was claimed he

:02:51. > :02:55.also used a bin incinerator to burn evidence. Thomas Dunkley denies

:02:55. > :03:01.murder. But he had admitted admits preventing the lawful burial of a

:03:01. > :03:05.body and four counts of fraud. The trial continues.

:03:05. > :03:07.The Chancellor paid another visit to the region today ahead of the local

:03:07. > :03:12.elections on Thursday - and denied the Conservatives are running scared

:03:12. > :03:15.of UKIP. George Osborne also defended the

:03:15. > :03:24.coalition's record on the amount of regional growth fund aid handed out

:03:24. > :03:27.here - the lowest in the country. Mike O'Sullivan reports.

:03:27. > :03:36.From 4x4 to Formula one. The Chancellor, arriving at a

:03:36. > :03:39.manufacturing form in tray card that supplies Carbon fibre parts for F1

:03:39. > :03:45.cars. UKIP are fielding many candidates in the elections. Are you

:03:45. > :03:47.running scared of them? When local people focus on the choice on

:03:47. > :03:50.Thursday, they will say that actually it is the conservatives

:03:50. > :03:56.that have frozen the council tax, invested in apprenticeships which

:03:56. > :04:00.you see here. The Chancellor was keen to promote the coalition's

:04:00. > :04:04.track record on jobs and growth, but the East Midlands hasn't done well

:04:04. > :04:09.when it comes to the government's regional growth fund. The West

:04:09. > :04:17.Midlands has done best, with 427 million, that our region is bottom

:04:17. > :04:20.of the pile. 117 million awarded. This company is doing well. It is

:04:20. > :04:26.hoping to expand to a new factory with the help of some of the

:04:26. > :04:30.regional growth fund money that has come our way. We need to get these

:04:30. > :04:37.politicians up to Derby, up to the region, so they can see things for

:04:37. > :04:40.real. And then we have got to be brave enough to ask for money.

:04:40. > :04:46.George Osborne defended the government's record on spending in

:04:46. > :04:51.the East Midlands. The coalition has invested hugely in the region in

:04:51. > :04:55.many factoring, apprenticeships, in small and large businesses like

:04:55. > :05:00.Rolls-Royce in Derby, we are absolutely committed to the future

:05:00. > :05:05.of what the East Midlands is good at, high-tech manufacturing.

:05:05. > :05:09.applicants have applied for around 40 jobs in this factory, a sign that

:05:09. > :05:18.some parts of the economy motoring ahead.

:05:18. > :05:21.Coming up - a look back at a stunning weekend of football. For

:05:21. > :05:27.Forest - it goes down to the wire. Our cameras were in the dressing

:05:27. > :05:31.room as Billy Davies praised the Reds' performance against Milwall.

:05:31. > :05:41.Also, I will be finding out why top designers are making our region

:05:41. > :05:49.

:05:49. > :05:52.their home. spectacular crash during a practice

:05:52. > :06:00.race in Holland at the weekend. The Derbyshire rider had pioneering

:06:00. > :06:05.surgery to repair two breaks in his leg. But he told our reporter Sarah

:06:05. > :06:09.Teale he hopes to be back racing within just a few weeks.

:06:09. > :06:15.Reliving the horror crash which landed him in hospital. Leon Haslam

:06:15. > :06:21.came off his bike during a practice lap in Holland on Saturday.

:06:21. > :06:25.should have been an easy walk away crash, it ended up being a disaster.

:06:25. > :06:30.He was flown by air ambulance to Nottingham. Trauma surgeons operated

:06:30. > :06:34.on his double leg fracture last night. The last few days have

:06:34. > :06:40.definitely been hard work. I have been airlifted back from Holland,

:06:40. > :06:43.the trauma of the crash, but so far so good, back on the mend now.

:06:43. > :06:52.surgeons used a row to be new technique, screwing a long nail

:06:52. > :06:55.inside his bone from need to ankle. He has got a clean break through his

:06:55. > :07:02.tibia, but it is quite close to the joint, which makes surgery for this

:07:02. > :07:07.fracture difficult. He wants to get out as soon as possible, just like

:07:07. > :07:09.anyone, but a nail is so much stronger than a plate and the

:07:09. > :07:15.incisions are so much smaller, you can get back to his normal function

:07:15. > :07:20.of not quicker. Leon will be back on his feet again straightaway but

:07:20. > :07:23.should be back on his bike within three to four weeks. In fact he is

:07:23. > :07:30.hoping to recover in time for his homecoming race at Donington at the

:07:30. > :07:35.end of May. It is less than four weeks from now, a bit of a tall

:07:35. > :07:41.order but a lot of physio treatment to get back on the bike. If all goes

:07:41. > :07:44.well he hopes to be discharged from hospital tomorrow.

:07:44. > :07:48.A man has been jailed for life for killing his friend in the grounds of

:07:48. > :07:50.a library in Derbyshire. Michael Wayne Carroll denied the

:07:50. > :07:55.manslaughter of Alexander Blick, from Matlock Bath, but was found

:07:56. > :07:59.guilty following a seven-day trial at Nottingham Crown Court. Mr

:07:59. > :08:05.Blick's body was found by a local resident in the grounds of Matlock

:08:05. > :08:07.library in October 2011. He'd suffered a severe head injury.

:08:07. > :08:12.129 million will be spent on improving school buildings in

:08:12. > :08:17.Leicester. The money is part of the plans to rebuild every secondary

:08:17. > :08:22.school in the city by 2015. Funding for the redevelopment now stands at

:08:22. > :08:26.350 million and was approved by the government. Babbington College is

:08:26. > :08:30.one of the schools to benefit. It's getting a new building in Beaumont

:08:30. > :08:33.Leys. Next tonight, a council's been told

:08:33. > :08:39.it failed to safeguard the welfare of two young sisters in its care

:08:39. > :08:41.over a four year period. An investigation by the local

:08:41. > :08:46.government ombudsman found the children suffered significant

:08:46. > :08:54.neglect. Nottingham City Council's been asked to review its policies.

:08:54. > :08:58.Jo Healey has more. The council allowed the girls to

:08:58. > :09:04.live with their mother but she had severe learning difficulties. The

:09:04. > :09:07.report told how the eldest girl wore the same close to nursery every day

:09:07. > :09:13.and smelt of urine. The youngest suffered pressure sores on her feet

:09:13. > :09:18.from being left in her cot. Girls grandmother wanted to look after

:09:18. > :09:22.them and complained to the ombudsman about the council. The ombudsman

:09:22. > :09:28.found Nottingham City Council failed to safeguard the children. They

:09:28. > :09:36.suffered significant neglect and physical injuries, and the council

:09:36. > :09:39.needed to review its policies for handling complex neglect cases.

:09:39. > :09:43.recognise that councils across the country conduct very difficult cases

:09:44. > :09:48.in difficult circumstances and I appreciate that it is important for

:09:48. > :09:50.children to stay with their mother as long as possible but also it is

:09:50. > :09:56.important that councils recognise the needs of the torture and come

:09:56. > :09:59.first. Earlier I spoke to the man in charge of children's services.

:09:59. > :10:06.apologised to the girls and they grandmother but said they tried to

:10:06. > :10:11.keep girls with their mothers. need to see what support can be put

:10:11. > :10:14.in. The children did suffer in this case, that is true, and at the end

:10:14. > :10:22.we had to take the action we did and eventually they were placed with

:10:22. > :10:30.their grandparents. They are with them now. So you accept they were

:10:30. > :10:35.failings? They were, and we have improved significantly since 2005.

:10:35. > :10:39.He confirmed they will be paying the recommended compensation of 5,000

:10:39. > :10:42.to each child and 1000 to the grandmother. She now finally looks

:10:42. > :10:45.after the girls and they are thriving.

:10:46. > :10:48.It's emerged this afternoon that the owner of one of the Peak District's

:10:48. > :10:51.leading hotel's has started the process of putting the business into

:10:51. > :10:55.liquidation. Last week, we reported that a couple's 5,000 wedding faced

:10:55. > :10:59.ruin because the Izaak Walton Hotel at Dovedale remained closed. Now a

:10:59. > :11:09.businessman's confirmed the hotel owes him nearly 10,000. James

:11:09. > :11:14.

:11:14. > :11:20.the famous Izaak Walton Hotel would normally be open. But so far this

:11:20. > :11:24.year, it has remained closed. Jeff told us he had paid 5,000 up front

:11:24. > :11:32.to get married there this weekend and had to change the venue at the

:11:32. > :11:37.last minute. The Izaak Walton Hotel is a far cry from last year when its

:11:37. > :11:44.owner was telling the local paper that he was also going to reopen the

:11:44. > :11:49.Green man hotel in Ashbourne. were told he was 99% certain the

:11:49. > :11:52.keys would be in his hand within a matter of days and next week he

:11:52. > :11:56.expect everybody that wasn't the case, the sale had fallen through at

:11:57. > :12:02.the 11th hour and it was pretty much it, we didn't get much more

:12:02. > :12:08.communication from him. businessman says he is owed nearly

:12:08. > :12:15.10,000 will stop in 2011 Thomas stated on the tenancy of a third

:12:15. > :12:20.hotel. But the Melbourne hotel's owner says he failed to pay his

:12:20. > :12:25.rent. His promises were never forthcoming, and eventually we had

:12:25. > :12:30.to take him to court and secure judgement on him for a date which is

:12:30. > :12:35.around the figure of 10,000. It is now secured as a charge on the Izaak

:12:35. > :12:41.Walton Hotel. I went to a residential address in the team

:12:41. > :12:45.shirt, but there was no answer. I went to the Izaak Walton Hotel, get

:12:45. > :12:48.no answer. This afternoon, and Nottingham -based insolvency

:12:48. > :12:52.practitioner confirmed his firm has been called in to advise on

:12:52. > :12:58.liquidating the business. A meeting for shareholders and creditors has

:12:58. > :13:07.been provisionally set up for next month. On a note, Jeff and his bride

:13:07. > :13:10.did get married this weekend. -- on a good note.

:13:10. > :13:15.Now, as we've seen recently, the location of the East Midlands makes

:13:15. > :13:18.us an attractive location for distribution companies. But now it

:13:19. > :13:21.seems our region is also attracting another rather more stylish group.

:13:21. > :13:26.The heritage of the textile industry is encouraging fashion brands to

:13:26. > :13:36.base themselves here. The latest has just opened in Leicestershire. Kylie

:13:36. > :13:39.

:13:39. > :13:44.Pentelow found out. From intricate lace to expensive knitwear. The East

:13:44. > :13:48.Midlands is known around the world for its textiles and clothing. And

:13:48. > :13:53.it is that amazing heritage that is now attracting fashion companies

:13:53. > :13:59.back to the East Midlands. Like this one, part of the Morrisons

:13:59. > :14:05.supermarket group. They decided to put children's wear in their stores

:14:05. > :14:08.and chose to share as their base. you go back to the industrial

:14:08. > :14:13.revolution, and more recently clothing manufacturing, it plays a

:14:13. > :14:17.large part in this area, but more recently there are some major

:14:17. > :14:23.successful retailers in this area. So there is a pool of talent and

:14:23. > :14:30.expertise that exists in this area. Table ready created 50 jobs here

:14:30. > :14:37.with more to come. I have a vacancy at the moment assembly, I am looking

:14:37. > :14:40.to recruit locally from college. Just up the road there is a pool of

:14:40. > :14:49.talent. Here at Montfort University they are aware of how important

:14:49. > :14:53.region is to the University. It is definitely because of the magnet --

:14:53. > :14:57.track record, we have some important companies here, they attract

:14:57. > :15:02.manufacturing and design houses to the East Midlands. It really is the

:15:02. > :15:05.heart of the country as well, it is easily accessible from all parts of

:15:05. > :15:11.the country and also from overseas, I think it is really important we

:15:11. > :15:14.keep that manufacturing and design base here. The students here are now

:15:14. > :15:17.completing their final pieces for the catwalk and it is hoped with

:15:17. > :15:23.more companies turning the area into their home, it will give the East

:15:23. > :15:26.Midlands at the cutting-edge of fashion. -- keep the East Midlands.

:15:26. > :15:30.Sport now - and - for some of our football teams, the season's going

:15:30. > :15:33.right to the wire. It's all set for a Nottingham Forest versus Leicester

:15:33. > :15:36.decider on Saturday lunchtime. If results elsewhere go their way then

:15:36. > :15:39.Forest or City will make the play offs. We begin our sport tonight

:15:39. > :15:43.with exclusive access at Nottingham Forest, including Billy Davies's

:15:43. > :15:49.dressing room rallying call. Natalie Jackson travelled with Forest to

:15:49. > :15:57.Millwall. Down to business in the business

:15:57. > :16:03.district. This is the most important game. We have got to make sure we

:16:03. > :16:09.silenced the crowd and make sure we are in the good position. This is

:16:09. > :16:19.crunch position, I guess. All we can do is do what we can, I am a great

:16:19. > :16:20.

:16:20. > :16:26.believer in fate. A dream start really steadied nerves. It has taken

:16:27. > :16:30.Forest only seven minutes to break through against Millwall! They were

:16:30. > :16:36.back in the promotion picture. There was a tense finish, and if you heart

:16:37. > :16:42.in mouth is. But how the's early winner was all that was needed to

:16:42. > :16:48.take it to a nail-biting, dramatic showdown next weekend at home

:16:48. > :16:51.against East Midlands rivals Leicester. You showed tremendous

:16:51. > :16:54.spirit, your application was excellent, your energy was

:16:54. > :16:59.excellent, your workrate was superb, and as a collective group, you have

:16:59. > :17:03.got to be proud of that, it is a massive three points. It takes us

:17:03. > :17:07.right into this last game. Now we are going into the last game,

:17:07. > :17:13.everything to play for. I have got to say, you have been top-class,

:17:13. > :17:17.absolutely top-class, well done. And if you want to see more of that,

:17:17. > :17:27.go to the BBC iPlayer and you'll find it on last night's Late Kick

:17:27. > :17:27.

:17:27. > :17:29.Off programme. They had two positives in the

:17:29. > :17:35.championship team of the year, they have an awards night tonight but

:17:35. > :17:40.don't want the campaign to end just yet. They know nothing short of

:17:40. > :17:45.victory will do next week. Here at Leicester they are still

:17:45. > :17:48.clinging onto their dreams of making the play-offs. The defeat to Watford

:17:48. > :17:52.was a big blow, they found themselves two to zero down in the

:17:53. > :17:56.first half. Both goals came in quick succession just before the break.

:17:56. > :18:04.The second of which was pure class, and unstoppable thunderbolt of a

:18:04. > :18:11.strike. To concede two goals before half-time really did psychologically

:18:11. > :18:14.he does the six. But they did not go down without a fight, they pulled a

:18:14. > :18:21.goal back in the second half. were left praying for an equaliser

:18:21. > :18:25.was not to be. We have got to hope for a miracle, but football is weird

:18:25. > :18:33.sometimes. All we can do now is try and go to Nottingham Forest and get

:18:33. > :18:36.a win. If nothing else, for the fans and for professional pride. It truly

:18:36. > :18:44.has been a roller-coaster season. The question is, will it end on a

:18:45. > :18:47.high? At Derby County they've started

:18:47. > :18:51.talks with midfielder Ben Davies about a new contract. His current

:18:51. > :18:53.deal expires in the summer. But loanee Craig Forsyth is back at his

:18:53. > :18:56.parent club Watford. They've recalled him for a possible play-off

:18:56. > :19:03.campaign. Nothing like that sort of end of season excitement for the

:19:03. > :19:06.Rams. They were disappointed with defeat at Blackpool - going behind

:19:06. > :19:10.in the 18th minute. Ben Davies has been disappointed with finding

:19:10. > :19:13.himself on the bench quite a bit this season - and made his point in

:19:13. > :19:16.the best way midway through the second half. But in injury time,

:19:16. > :19:20.just when the point seemed safe, Blackpool grabbed a goal - and

:19:20. > :19:23.secured their place in the Championship too.

:19:23. > :19:27.As expected Alan Judge is leaving Notts County. The midfielder can go

:19:27. > :19:31.for free after three years with the Magpies. He signed off by playing 90

:19:31. > :19:34.minutes in the home draw with Coventry. Notts went in front

:19:34. > :19:43.through Tyrell Waite, but Coventry pulled level early in the second

:19:43. > :19:46.half. The response from the the Magpies was swift - Krystian Pearce

:19:46. > :19:49.restoring the lead, only to see the visitors get a late equaliser.

:19:49. > :19:53.Mansfield Town will use Conference glory to push on in the Football

:19:53. > :19:56.League - according to their Chairman John Radford. Yesterday, hundreds of

:19:56. > :19:59.fans gathered outside the Stags stadium as the team kicked off an

:20:00. > :20:07.open-top bus tour to celebrate their promotion to League Two. Fans were

:20:07. > :20:11.there to cheer the team - and the club say the support's been amazing.

:20:11. > :20:17.A big thank you to the fans who have supported us while we have been out

:20:17. > :20:22.of league football. They have done a fantastic job getting is into the

:20:22. > :20:25.league, hopefully brings Mansfield town out of the doldrums a bit.

:20:25. > :20:28.Also celebrating, the Leicester Riders basketball team. They

:20:28. > :20:33.finished their season by winning the Play Off Final at Wembley -

:20:33. > :20:36.completing a remarkable treble of trophies. Even this early in the

:20:36. > :20:40.game against their big rivals Newcastle, they were totally in

:20:40. > :20:45.charge. Leicester never let go. They defended fiercely and scoring just

:20:45. > :20:51.when they needed to. The final moments, an explosion of joy capping

:20:51. > :20:56.the most wonderful season they have ever had. It is the third time this

:20:56. > :21:02.year IM struggling for words, it is a long time coming, it is well

:21:02. > :21:06.deserved for this team. All clubs need to build on success, they want

:21:06. > :21:11.to build a new arena and grow their band of fans, all of that is for

:21:12. > :21:14.tomorrow. Right now, they are still celebrating.

:21:14. > :21:17.I hope they're winding the celebrations down a little because

:21:17. > :21:27.tomorrow evening we'll have all the Riders' trophies - and their coach -

:21:27. > :21:27.
