:00:00. > :00:14.This is East Midlands Today with Dominic Heale and me, Anne Davies.
:00:15. > :00:19.Tonight: Closing within week ` a care home for people with severe
:00:20. > :00:24.dementia. More than 30 patients will have to move out by November. Five
:00:25. > :00:30.weeks from Christmas and they are putting those people through total
:00:31. > :00:34.misery. Also, please step up their hunt for two toddlers taken from
:00:35. > :00:40.their mother. Plus, a terror trial at the Old Bailey is told about guns
:00:41. > :00:44.found at a teenager's home. And find out why I am at the home of
:00:45. > :00:48.summarising Newton to discover more about his family tree. `` Sir Isaac
:00:49. > :00:57.Newton. Good evening and welcome to the
:00:58. > :01:01.programme. First tonight, inspectors have ordered the closure of a care
:01:02. > :01:06.home in East Midlands because of big worries about failing standards.
:01:07. > :01:10.In a damming report, the Care Quality Commission found many of the
:01:11. > :01:14.residents who had dementia were not having their needs met adequately.
:01:15. > :01:18.At least 33 people are currently at the home and now face being moved.
:01:19. > :01:25.Our health correspondent Rob Sissons has the latest.
:01:26. > :01:29.The owners of this home in Nottingham say they had been
:01:30. > :01:33.struggling to bring me home up to scratch. The inspectors found a
:01:34. > :01:36.catalogue of problems. Residents were not being safeguarded from the
:01:37. > :01:41.risk of abuse, staff not always responding to basic care needs,
:01:42. > :01:46.residents at risk of neglect. Elizabeth is one of at least 33
:01:47. > :01:49.residents who now face the people of moving. Her son visits every day but
:01:50. > :01:55.tonight said he simply could not break the news to her. I have not
:01:56. > :02:00.told my mother because I do not want to upset her. At 103, there is a big
:02:01. > :02:05.chance that a move from here would be her last move. The inspectors
:02:06. > :02:11.said, we saw that some people did not have access to an emergency call
:02:12. > :02:15.alarm in their bedroom. There was a lack of staff in communal areas. We
:02:16. > :02:21.saw one person supported to beat two breakfasts when another person did
:02:22. > :02:25.not get any food or assistance. The inspection report makes for
:02:26. > :02:30.depressing reading but the picture painted is not one David recognises.
:02:31. > :02:37.It is absolutely fantastic. I have no complaints. I have not seen
:02:38. > :02:45.anything untoward. I trust the staff 100%. Methodist homes, a charity,
:02:46. > :02:49.took over the facility in 2011, after the collapse of Southern
:02:50. > :02:53.Cross. They say they have struggled to improve it. They have refurbished
:02:54. > :02:57.the centre but there was concern is about care which led to the closure
:02:58. > :03:01.decision, supported by Nottingham social services. The city council
:03:02. > :03:04.would not put anyone up for interview but they told us these
:03:05. > :03:10.decisions for closure are only made in very rare and exceptional
:03:11. > :03:13.circumstances. They have said they want to reassure relatives that they
:03:14. > :03:18.will do all they can to ensure the smooth transition of residence to
:03:19. > :03:22.alternative homes. Worrying times for residents and
:03:23. > :03:28.their families. What is going to happen? Tomorrow there are going to
:03:29. > :03:30.be meetings at the hospital for families and relatives of the
:03:31. > :03:35.residents at the care home. They will be told what arrangements will
:03:36. > :03:40.be made. It is likely that a lot of the residents will be offered
:03:41. > :03:45.alternative homes. But as we heard from David in the report, how
:03:46. > :03:49.traumatic will that be for some of these people? A lot of them have
:03:50. > :03:56.dementia and change is extremely unsettling for them and their
:03:57. > :04:00.families. I have heard from David, but it would be interesting to hear
:04:01. > :04:06.what other relatives think. He says he does not recognise what the
:04:07. > :04:10.inspectors... He is happy? He thinks the staff are doing a good job. He
:04:11. > :04:14.is happy? He thinks the staff are doing a good job. Here's their two
:04:15. > :04:17.and half hours a day, not all I think there are a lot more
:04:18. > :04:22.developments to come but the 9th of November is the date they are
:04:23. > :04:29.looking towards closing the home. For now, thank you.
:04:30. > :04:32.A terrorism trial has been told that police found several lethal guns
:04:33. > :04:36.when they searched the home of a Leicestershire teenager.
:04:37. > :04:39.The jury's heard that he was planning a Columbine`style massacre
:04:40. > :04:41.at his former school in Loughborough. Our social affairs
:04:42. > :04:48.correspondent Jeremy Ball is at the Old Bailey in London. Who's been
:04:49. > :04:54.giving evidence this afternoon? The jury heard from the police firearms
:04:55. > :04:59.expert who examined the weapons and ammunition found that the
:05:00. > :05:07.teenager's home. He showed us ten different guns, all of them have
:05:08. > :05:12.guns, `` all of them bear guns and other things, but powerful enough to
:05:13. > :05:16.kill people. The police found a downloaded document on the boy's
:05:17. > :05:21.computer which gave instructions to make real pistols. The boy had
:05:22. > :05:26.started making modifications consistent with the instructions. We
:05:27. > :05:32.cannot identify the 17 `year`old on trial for legal reasons, but today
:05:33. > :05:35.he was accompanied in the dock by an intermediary. His Asperger's
:05:36. > :05:39.syndrome makes it difficult for him to concentrate. The jury has been
:05:40. > :05:45.told about plans he made to attack Muslims and his own school in
:05:46. > :05:48.Loughborough. They heard he had admitted possessing petrol bombs and
:05:49. > :05:52.pipe bombs. What they have got to decide is whether those weapons
:05:53. > :06:00.really were being stockpiled for an act of terrorism.
:06:01. > :06:03.Still to come on the programme tonight: A surprise appearance at
:06:04. > :06:06.the City ground on Saturday. The Forest chairman's wife witnessed
:06:07. > :06:10.her first ever game and saw her husband as she's never quite seen
:06:11. > :06:14.him before. We have seen some of these before.
:06:15. > :06:33.Typical autumnal weather today. Have we seen the back of the rain? All of
:06:34. > :06:36.the details coming up later. Two young children who were taken
:06:37. > :06:39.from their mother's care by their father are still missing tonight.
:06:40. > :06:43.Saleem Tahir from Nottingham took the brother and sister from a hotel
:06:44. > :06:46.near Stoke on Friday. Both children are under the age of three. Here's
:06:47. > :06:49.our chief news reporter Quentin Rayner.
:06:50. > :06:55.Two and a half `year`old and her brother have not been seen for three
:06:56. > :06:59.days. They were taken at 5pm on Friday from a room at this hotel

:07:05. > :07:07.father 40 `year`old Saleem Tahir forced is way past their maternal
:07:08. > :07:12.grandmother and took the children. Detectives believe they are with him
:07:13. > :07:18.and his mother, a 67 `year`old, who is also the children's grandmother.
:07:19. > :07:24.Having previously discovered the easiest route out, he went via a
:07:25. > :07:31.fire exit with the two children. Some minutes later, the grandmother
:07:32. > :07:35.came down to reception in hysterics and told reception what had
:07:36. > :07:41.occurred. Obviously, at that point, the police were alerted. Our
:07:42. > :07:44.priority is around the safe return of these children. We are anxious
:07:45. > :07:50.for the father to make contact with us using the 101 number because we
:07:51. > :07:55.want to bring this matter to a resolution as quickly as possible.
:07:56. > :07:59.It is a stressful situation for children. It needs to be resolved
:08:00. > :08:03.and the sooner we do that, the better for all concerned. The
:08:04. > :08:08.children were last seen at around 8pm on Friday evening with their
:08:09. > :08:11.father near a tanning salon on the Bristol Road in South Birmingham.
:08:12. > :08:16.The police have been focusing their search in this part of the city.
:08:17. > :08:20.CCTV footage is also being analysed. The detectives are urging
:08:21. > :08:24.anyone to call 101 immediately if they see the group and not to
:08:25. > :08:37.approach their father in case it distresses the children.
:08:38. > :08:41.Three men appeared at Nottingham Crown Court today charged with the
:08:42. > :08:45.murder of a man in Beeston. The body of Simon Hay who was 47 was
:08:46. > :08:47.discovered by police in a flat on Villa Street on Sunday, 13th
:08:48. > :08:50.October. Callum Dickinson and Karl Raynor from Beeston and Christopher
:08:51. > :08:53.Royton from Cotgrave have been remanded in custody. Their next

:08:59. > :09:01.Detectives are investigating a suspected arson attack on a firework
:09:02. > :09:04.shop in Derby. Fire crews were called to Big Boy Fireworks last
:09:05. > :09:07.night, with police closing Ashbourne Road at Markeaton Island as a
:09:08. > :09:10.precaution because of the contents of the shop. Shutters protect the
:09:11. > :09:19.shop but the owner believes the attackers poured something through
:09:20. > :09:22.the letter box. The head of UK Coal production says
:09:23. > :09:24.some of Britain's mines, like Harworth Colliery in North
:09:25. > :09:28.Nottinghamshire, could be reopened. That's if the Government diverts
:09:29. > :09:30.some of the subsidies it's using for renewable energy. Some power
:09:31. > :09:33.companies claim that green policies are the reason behind spiralling
:09:34. > :09:43.bills and there are fears that overlooking coal could result in
:09:44. > :09:47.blackouts. The jury at an inquest into the
:09:48. > :09:50.deaths of a pregnant Derbyshire woman, her son and her former
:09:51. > :09:53.partner three years ago has been sent home for the night, after
:09:54. > :09:56.starting to consider its verdicts. The jury is also considering whether
:09:57. > :09:59.there were failings by Derbyshire Police in the week before the

:10:17. > :10:19.Slack and her two`year`old son Auden were found, along with the body of
:10:20. > :10:28.Auden's father, Andrew Cairns aged 44. They were all discovered with
:10:29. > :10:31.multiple stab wounds at Rachael's cottage at Holbrook in Derbyshire.
:10:32. > :10:34.Cairns had been arrested by Derbyshire Police a week before the
:10:35. > :10:40.deaths for making threats to kill, but was released on bail without
:10:41. > :10:44.charge. The jury's been asked to return
:10:45. > :10:47.verdicts on all three of them and there are also questions about
:10:48. > :10:53.Derbyshire Police they may have to consider, aren't there? Yes, the
:10:54. > :10:56.jury's been asked to consider whether Rachael and Auden were
:10:57. > :11:03.unlawfully killed and if so, whether their deaths were intentional and
:11:04. > :11:08.therefore murder. Or whether they were victims of voluntary
:11:09. > :11:12.manslaughter. In other words, the person that killed them was of
:11:13. > :11:15.unsound mind. However, if they wish to return longer, narrative
:11:16. > :11:18.verdicts, then the coroner has also asked them to consider seven
:11:19. > :11:19.questions about Derbyshire Police's conduct in the week before the
:11:20. > :11:55.stabbings. The jury's also been asked if there
:11:56. > :12:01.was a failure by Derbyshire Police to update their risk assessments on
:12:02. > :12:04.Rachael and Auden. The jury deliberated for four hours today and
:12:05. > :12:13.then were sent home. They'll resume their discussions at 10am tomorow.
:12:14. > :12:16.A campaign's begun in Nottingham to try to reduce the impact of the

:12:20. > :12:29.posters in GPs' surgeries, nursing homes and health centres across the
:12:30. > :12:32.city. Nationally, around a million people catch the vomiting bug every

:13:13. > :13:17.spent on this year's celebrations, with 80,000 coming from the city

:13:21. > :13:34.of light has become an annual party for all Leicester's communities.
:13:35. > :13:37.Rail bosses have been accused of negligence and putting commercial
:13:38. > :13:40.interests before safety at the level crossing in Nottingham where three
:13:41. > :13:51.people died. The allegations were made today at a hearing of the
:13:52. > :13:55.Transport Select Committee of Mps. The level crossing has since been
:13:56. > :13:58.replaced with a footbridge at a cost of around ?1.6 million. Mike
:13:59. > :14:01.O'Sullivan has this report. Three lives were lost at this
:14:02. > :14:07.railway crossing in four years. In November, 2008, this grandmother and
:14:08. > :14:13.her grandson aged seven were hit by a train. Last November, 13 `year`old
:14:14. > :14:24.Lindsay died after being hit by a tram. Today one of the victims
:14:25. > :14:29.relatives gave evidence at a select committee. My wife and grandson
:14:30. > :14:36.would be still with me. The negligence, that has caused the
:14:37. > :14:41.accident. The level crossing today looks totally different with a ?1.6
:14:42. > :14:46.million footbridge in place. This footbridge has replaced the level
:14:47. > :14:50.crossing. Both families campaign for it and Network Rail agreed after
:14:51. > :14:57.Lindsay's death. The level crossing was closed in February and this
:14:58. > :15:01.footbridge was opened on Friday. Critical comments about the level
:15:02. > :15:05.crossing were made by a retired British rail manager who has worked
:15:06. > :15:11.as a safety consultant. In my view, the level crossing was wrong and I
:15:12. > :15:16.suspect, I don't suspect, it is my belief that commercial
:15:17. > :15:19.considerations influenced safety. No one from Network Rail has been
:15:20. > :15:28.available for comment. They are due to give evidence before the
:15:29. > :15:31.committee in November. Still to come: Relativity meets
:15:32. > :15:34.gravity. A worldwide hunt's under way for
:15:35. > :15:36.relatives of Sir Isaac Newton, the man who did for apples what
:15:37. > :15:49.Archimedes did for bath water. It will be a Eureka moment, I
:15:50. > :15:57.promise! It will be a Eureka moment in sport tonight.
:15:58. > :16:00.Natalie never disappoints. Coming up, the Nottingham Forest
:16:01. > :16:03.chairman as you have never seen him before, but first, Derby County have

:16:14. > :16:24.the weekend, as Kirsty Edwards reports.
:16:25. > :16:36.The game was action packed from the off. Derby ahead after just eight
:16:37. > :16:42.minutes. It is there! Four minutes later and Watford were back in it.
:16:43. > :16:47.The manager Steve McClaren not happy. Just before the break, the
:16:48. > :16:53.Rounds were back in front. Ward has scored! Which? Derby found
:16:54. > :17:02.themselves pegged back again, a spectacular shot . One last role of
:17:03. > :17:13.the dice for Steve McClaren. He brought on a striker and the gamble
:17:14. > :17:17.paid off. I think both teams can be satisfied with the football they
:17:18. > :17:26.played but disappointed with the goals. Character in the end.
:17:27. > :17:29.Leicester City remain our best placed teams in the Championship.
:17:30. > :17:32.They are third in the table after a win over Huddersfield. Jessica

:17:44. > :17:47.howler in the last game but he was back to his best on Saturday,
:17:48. > :17:51.keeping Huddersfield at bay early on. At the other end, David Nugent
:17:52. > :17:57.linked up well with another player, putting Leicester had with his third

:18:19. > :18:23.goal back, another own goal. Not the way he would have wanted to mark his
:18:24. > :18:27.100th appearance for the club. Foxes are back to winning ways and state
:18:28. > :18:30.third in the championship. Onto Nottingham Forest and an
:18:31. > :18:34.exclusive interview with chairman and owner Fawaz Al Hasawi who says
:18:35. > :18:37.as long as he is at Forest, manager Billy Davies will be there. Fawaz
:18:38. > :18:41.gave Davies a new four`year contract last week, but Saturday was a big
:18:42. > :18:52.day for the Kuwaiti chairman for another very important reason, as I
:18:53. > :18:58.found out. He has ploughed millions into
:18:59. > :19:03.Nottingham Forest. I just want the fans to be happy. He has faced
:19:04. > :19:09.scrutiny from the media and the fans. I believe what I see, not what
:19:10. > :19:15.I hear. This weekend he was judged by his guest critic, his wife. On
:19:16. > :19:19.Saturday, she came to her first`ever Nottingham Forest match. If you
:19:20. > :19:30.lose, will she be allowed back? I doubt it. Now, no. He wasn't joking.
:19:31. > :19:39.When he watches a game, he goes through a whole range of emotions.
:19:40. > :19:47.He said, when I win, I start to cry and I feel shame. I said, go ahead
:19:48. > :19:53.and cried, show them your love. This goal was enough to move anyone, a
:19:54. > :19:59.breathtaking half`time strike. It was a big week for him after he gave
:20:00. > :20:05.the manager Billy Davies a new four`year contract. Billy likes
:20:06. > :20:13.Nottingham and we like him too and if I am going to be around, Billy
:20:14. > :20:16.will be with me. It was a painful experience watching the game next to
:20:17. > :20:25.her husband. He was jumping up and down, biting his nails and the team
:20:26. > :20:29.put him through it, missing chance after easy chance. I have a sore

:20:44. > :20:50.Bournemouth scored the equaliser. He takes the lows of football very
:20:51. > :20:58.hard. He and his family make sacrifices. He has to be here all
:20:59. > :21:05.the time. When I saw the fans all around him and the love and passion
:21:06. > :21:09.of football... After the game, they had to go their separate ways. But
:21:10. > :21:16.both say the sacrifices are worth it in the pursuit to push Nottingham
:21:17. > :21:19.Forest to the Premier League. In League one, Notts County find
:21:20. > :21:22.themselves second from bottom of the table. Just as it looked like Notts
:21:23. > :21:26.had turned a corner, they suffered another defeat on Friday night going
:21:27. > :21:29.down 2`0 at Swindon. Inconsistencies really costing Chris Kiwomya's side
:21:30. > :21:32.at the moment. In League Two, it was a frustrating weekend for Mansfield
:21:33. > :21:39.Town. They're in eighth place after a goalless draw at Torquay.
:21:40. > :21:42.In ice hockey, the Nottingham Panthers skated into the semifinal

:21:51. > :21:53.made it past the Latvians thanks to goals from Matt Francis, David
:21:54. > :21:56.Clarke and Leigh Salters. It was a fantastic weekend for Nottingham and
:21:57. > :22:04.means they will travel to Italy next month for the next round.
:22:05. > :22:06.And finally, big congratulations to Alex Lowes who this weekend become
:22:07. > :22:13.the youngest ever British Superbikes champion, following victory at
:22:14. > :22:16.Brands Hatch yesterday. The Derby`based rider took the title by
:22:17. > :22:20.seven points, despite going into the final weekend trailing the defending
