:00:11. > :00:22.prayers for the victims of the Philippines typhoon. Members of the
:00:23. > :00:27.Filipino community rushed to send aid to families at home. It is
:00:28. > :00:35.heartbreaking to see the Filipinos being affected by this. Also, a
:00:36. > :00:40.campaign confronting domestic violence backed by a mother whose
:00:41. > :00:49.daughter was killed. Abuse against your partner, girlfriend, is not

:01:06. > :01:17.rickshaw. Look at me, I can do it! Good evening and welcome to the
:01:18. > :01:21.programme. First tonight, the burial of the dead has begun and the
:01:22. > :01:26.clear`up is underway. But for many with relatives in the Philippines,
:01:27. > :01:28.the wait goes on. Among them a Leicestershire man facing an
:01:29. > :01:32.agonising delay in hearing from his wife. Filipino communities here in
:01:33. > :01:35.the East Midlands are doing all they can to help the aid effort following
:01:36. > :01:45.the typhoon. To tell us more, Rebecca Sheeran is in Leicester
:01:46. > :01:51.tonight. Good evening, I am at the Filipino
:01:52. > :01:56.express, a shop in Leicester but this is the heart of the community
:01:57. > :02:00.which has pulled together in such tragic circumstances. People are
:02:01. > :02:05.donating clothes and food which will be sent to those who need it. The
:02:06. > :02:09.tragedy has affected people across the East Midlands and our reporter
:02:10. > :02:16.has been talking to some of those families. They only married six
:02:17. > :02:22.weeks ago and was speaking on line as the typhoon struck. Since then,
:02:23. > :02:29.nothing. Andrew's daughter has been helping him at their home to try to
:02:30. > :02:35.find news. We don't know what to do. I am doing everything I can to keep
:02:36. > :02:44.in touch with her but as soon as you get in touch, we will be together
:02:45. > :02:46.quickly after that. The anxiety of relatives has only been heightened
:02:47. > :02:47.by images like these 0 relatives has only been heightened
:02:48. > :02:53.by images like these of the aftermath of the storm. Every day,
:02:54. > :03:02.you see the news, you can't bear to watch it. The people who lost their
:03:03. > :03:12.families, they are crying out for food. It is heartbreaking to see the
:03:13. > :03:16.Filipinos being affected by this. The Filipino community is being
:03:17. > :03:22.helped by others to raise aid for those in need. Today, they collected
:03:23. > :03:29.food from this cash and carry. It is just unbelievable. Family have come
:03:30. > :03:35.together, the community have come together and this is the support we
:03:36. > :03:41.get. It is tremendous. Many came to work as nurses and carers like
:03:42. > :03:48.Francis, her family are OK but now provide shelter to others less
:03:49. > :03:55.fortunate. The house was flattened by the typhoon. They are living at
:03:56. > :04:00.my mums house. They are living with what they have. A reality brought
:04:01. > :04:02.home by pictures on the internet. Now, Andrew hopes social media will
:04:03. > :04:16.help him to contact his wife. Well, you heard how important the
:04:17. > :04:23.supplies will be to those in the Philippines. Joining me is someone
:04:24. > :04:30.from the Leicestershire Filipino society. What do you need? People
:04:31. > :04:36.donated clothing, shoes, food, canned goods, noodles, dry stuff. We
:04:37. > :04:42.urge everybody to donate what they can in terms of clothing,
:04:43. > :04:51.medication, paracetamol, sanitation stuff, detergent and especially
:04:52. > :04:56.canned goods. How important are the supplies to getting to those people?
:04:57. > :05:01.Very important because as you can see it is six days since the tragedy
:05:02. > :05:08.happened and people are hungry, very hungry. There is no food, everything
:05:09. > :05:17.is devastated. There is no food so it's important we give what we can
:05:18. > :05:22.so people can eat and have clothing for survival. Thank you. Everybody
:05:23. > :05:26.here busy trying to get supplies ready, they are asking for people to
:05:27. > :05:30.come forward with donations and they hope this will reach those who
:05:31. > :05:36.really need it next week. Let's hope there is a big response. More

:05:46. > :05:48.Labour blames government cuts. The Tories are branding the budget

:06:15. > :06:19.Inside the chamber, the budget savings proposals are debated, this

:06:24. > :06:27.Conservatives. The council leader says he cannot say which people will
:06:28. > :06:30.lose their jobs. Every area of activity across the council will be
:06:31. > :06:38.affected. That could be children's services, adult and youth services,
:06:39. > :06:43.it could be libraries. That is unavoidable given the severe
:06:44. > :06:48.financial constraints we face. What is the point of being a Labour
:06:49. > :06:53.councillor? Budget reductions have to be made but if the Conservatives
:06:54. > :06:59.were still leading, what would they do? We need large companies to run
:07:00. > :07:03.the business parts, they are not front`line services, the business
:07:04. > :07:09.parts, other councils have done that. Beverley works in the library

:07:14. > :07:17.to run their own libraries, they will not have the expertise, it will
:07:18. > :07:27.suffer. It is putting responsibility on communities to do that. And in
:07:28. > :07:31.the end, I can see it closing. The cuts are ideological and
:07:32. > :07:37.unnecessary. There is the money there but the political will is that
:07:38. > :07:44.they have other priorities. Council tax is due to increase by 2%, a new
:07:45. > :07:49.round of consultations started today and people in the county are

:08:21. > :08:23.at a house in Laneham Avenue on Monday evening. Two men, aged 29 and
