:00:14. > :00:18.Here in the East Midlands: Tonight ` a pensioner dies from a heart attack

:00:19. > :00:21.after paramedics lose the keys to their ambulance. It's one of several

:00:22. > :00:29.serious cases, forcing EMAS to tackle poor performance.

:00:30. > :00:34.Also tonight: after four deaths, fire teams visit hundreds of homes

:00:35. > :00:46.to check smoke detectors. Test it now. Check them. And no snow yet,

:00:47. > :01:00.but more Santas... This is East Midlands Today.

:01:01. > :01:07.Tonight, we can reveal a raft of schools in

:01:08. > :01:11.Welcome to Friday's programme. First tonight ` it's been revealed that a

:01:12. > :01:14.pensioner died from a heart attack after paramedics lost the keys to

:01:15. > :01:17.their ambulance. The incident happened at a golf club in

:01:18. > :01:19.Derbyshire. Seven other serious incidents involving East Midlands

:01:20. > :01:23.Ambulance Service were logged in just one month. The information came

:01:24. > :01:26.to light after NHS bosses held an emergency meeting with EMAS over

:01:27. > :01:39.poor performance and concerns about patient safety. It has been a year

:01:40. > :01:49.of controversy. Another hefty fine. Paramedics made mistakes. And now

:01:50. > :01:57.and don't bosses have been summoned to a summit. The emergency meeting

:01:58. > :02:08.was called over concerns about the response times to emergency calls.

:02:09. > :02:16.One of those listed in this report happened at the golf per billion in

:02:17. > :02:24.Derbyshire. `` pavillion. A man had a cardiac arrest but the paramedics

:02:25. > :02:25.had lost the keys to the Ann Jones. The patient received support but he

:02:26. > :03:02.later died. The `` ambulance. Heck I am deeply concerned. The

:03:03. > :03:06.people of the East Midlands would expect the Ambulance Service to put

:03:07. > :03:15.in place quickly the changes and reforms that they need to. It needs

:03:16. > :03:24.to be the top of the other gender. `` their agenda.

:03:25. > :03:28.And it's been a momentous week for the NHS ` still learning the lessons

:03:29. > :03:30.of the scandal of Stafford Hospital where hundreds of patients died

:03:31. > :03:34.following appalling treatment. The government has finally set out what

:03:35. > :03:36.it thinks is needed. It calls for a radical culture change ` more

:03:37. > :03:39.openness and, yes, more restructuring of some services. Our

:03:40. > :03:45.correspondent looks at where things go from here, to improve care for

:03:46. > :03:50.all of us. Think about the sheer scale of the NHS. In England the

:03:51. > :03:57.budget is over ?100 billion a year. One million patients are seen every

:03:58. > :04:02.36 hours. 146,000 doctors. It's a world of competing priorities.

:04:03. > :04:08.Today, a Nottingham charity backed demands for improving care for

:04:09. > :04:11.patients with brain injuries. The budget can only be spent once.

:04:12. > :04:23.Shoppers have kind words for the NHS, but access to GPs was a common

:04:24. > :04:33.gripe. It took me ten days. I contacted my GP and they said it

:04:34. > :04:50.would take till the 31st of January. My feet are sore. My daughter was

:04:51. > :04:58.born 16 days ago. Helpful staff. It was a good experience. There is a

:04:59. > :05:05.nursing shortage. The government says that staffing levels should be

:05:06. > :05:10.displayed on wards. In Lincolnshire, the health and social

:05:11. > :05:12.care system has been failing, with hospitals in special measures over

:05:13. > :05:21.spending and recruitment problems arising. We want to keep people out

:05:22. > :05:27.of hospital. We want to deliver better quality. It is not just about

:05:28. > :05:30.what happens in hospital. It is about what happens to people before

:05:31. > :05:38.they go to hospital and when they come out again as well. That is what

:05:39. > :05:41.they are trying to fix. Two of the big challenges are ensuring enough

:05:42. > :05:46.capacity and keeping up the quality. The boss at Derby hospital works as

:05:47. > :06:00.a care assistant once a month. He won an award this week for

:06:01. > :06:07.compassionate cure. `` She. `` care. RE delivering adequate service? That

:06:08. > :06:23.is the question. Changing culture is not very easy. Many hospitals fear a

:06:24. > :06:31.difficult winter. More money may have to be diverted to them if the

:06:32. > :06:34.pressure keeps building. The funeral has taken place of a

:06:35. > :06:37.four`year`old girl from Leicestershire who was mauled to

:06:38. > :06:41.death by her family's dog. Lexi Brandon was killed by the pet at her

:06:42. > :06:44.home in Mountsorrel earlier this month. The service was helf at Holy

:06:45. > :06:48.Trinity Church at Barrow on Soar where the family is originally from.

:06:49. > :06:56.Mourners were asked to wear pink, which was Lexi's favourite colour.

:06:57. > :06:59.Still lots to come tonight ` including a look ahead to the

:07:00. > :07:01.weekend's weather. And in sport, we've got a knockout preview ahead

:07:02. > :07:16.of fight night! The government has confirmed it

:07:17. > :07:18.wants a new Trust to run the troubled Derby free school,

:07:19. > :07:21.Ad`Madinah. Education Minister Lord Nash has told the school he's not

:07:22. > :07:24.satisfied the current Trust can make the necessary improvements. Last

:07:25. > :07:27.night Al`Madinah told parents its governors would not resign ` but

:07:28. > :07:31.today's letter says the Trustees have agreed to stand down in due

:07:32. > :07:33.course. Lord Nash wants the school to work with the Greenwood Dale

:07:34. > :07:43.Foundation Trust ` which already runs 22 other academies. There are a

:07:44. > :07:46.group of pupils there who deserve a good education ` irrespective of the

:07:47. > :07:49.nature of the school... Whether it's a faith school or not. These

:07:50. > :07:52.children need a good education. That's something my Trust provides.

:07:53. > :08:00.We provide it really well. That's all I'm in this for. I believe quite

:08:01. > :08:11.fully, and I suspect Lord Nash does as well, that if we didn't take it

:08:12. > :08:15.on then nobody else would. And staying with education, tonight

:08:16. > :08:18.we can report that more than half a dozen secondary schools and

:08:19. > :08:21.academies are in the spotlight at Ofsted sends inspectors into our of

:08:22. > :08:25.our cities, which it says lets it pupils down. Our political editor

:08:26. > :08:28.iis outside one of the schools in Nottingham we know has been visited.

:08:29. > :08:33.I'm outside the Djanogly Academy in Hyson Green in Nottingham. This was

:08:34. > :08:39.one of the country's first ever city academies during the Blair years.

:08:40. > :08:43.But tonight it's been revealed that last week it was one of a number of

:08:44. > :08:46.schools in Nottingham targetted by Ofsted inspectors, in what's been

:08:47. > :08:53.described to us by an academic source as a blitz. I understand that

:08:54. > :09:01.Djanogly is one of possibly as many as ten secondary schools in this

:09:02. > :09:04.city that were inspected. In fact, tonight Ofsted have told us that

:09:05. > :09:07.they carried out a week of coordinated inspections in

:09:08. > :09:10.Nottingham to find out why some of the secondary outcomes are so poor

:09:11. > :09:15.compared to the East Midlands region and nationally.

:09:16. > :09:18.the secondary outcomes are so poor compared to This will really concern

:09:19. > :09:26.parents, pupils and local politicians? It will. Remember,

:09:27. > :09:30.Nottingham had a lamitable record for education attainment. In recent

:09:31. > :09:50.years, the Labour leadership here has embraced the academy programme

:09:51. > :09:54.and there were signs of improvement. Finally, what have the City Council

:09:55. > :09:56.said about all this? They have confirmed that the inspections took

:09:57. > :10:00.place. They haven't confirmed where but they say that they are working

:10:01. > :10:04.with the schools and academies to help them to develop any improvement

:10:05. > :10:10.plans that might be needed in light of these inspections. The results

:10:11. > :10:25.should be published by Ofsted in the next few weeks.

:10:26. > :10:27.A prospective parliamentary candidate has apologised for

:10:28. > :10:31.offensive and threatening comments he made on social media about a

:10:32. > :10:34.15`year`old boy. Joe Naitta is due to stand for the Liberal Democrats

:10:35. > :10:38.in the Derby South constituency in the 2015 general election. He says,

:10:39. > :10:41.when he made the comments he was speaking as a parent rather than a

:10:42. > :10:50.city councillor. Our reporter is in our Derby studio and has seen the

:10:51. > :10:56.comments. What do they say? This all goes back to an incident earlier

:10:57. > :11:02.this week at Derby bus station. Joe Naitta says his daughter was

:11:03. > :11:08.verbally abused and spat at. Joe Naitta then went on to Facebook and

:11:09. > :11:13.threatened him. He said he was going to go round to his house. They were

:11:14. > :11:25.littered with swear words. He said the boy had picked on the wrong bro

:11:26. > :11:35.and told him not to mess with him. What has he had to say since this

:11:36. > :11:39.solar merged? `` all emerged? He has apologised and said they were said

:11:40. > :11:47.in the heat of the moment. He said he as a football coach and it is

:11:48. > :11:54.similar to street talk. I wanted to put the word out that this incident

:11:55. > :12:00.took place. I wanted to find out more information about what

:12:01. > :12:11.happened. Joe Naitta represents eight want in Derby. `` a ward. I

:12:12. > :12:23.ascertain if he was considering his position but he said absolutely not.

:12:24. > :12:28.After a fire that killed four people earlier this week, we're being

:12:29. > :12:31.encouraged to have an escape plan for our homes. That's the advice

:12:32. > :12:35.from safety officers visiting homes in Derbyshire. They want us to make

:12:36. > :12:39.a plan, discuss it with each other and even practice it. They also want

:12:40. > :12:42.us to check we have working smoke detectors. The fire that claimed

:12:43. > :12:45.four lives earlier this week will be difficult to move on from for this

:12:46. > :12:48.tight`knit community. But the Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service

:12:49. > :12:55.are trying to ensure it doesn't happen again. Since the fire, the

:12:56. > :12:58.service has sent safety officers like Kate to hundreds of homes in

:12:59. > :13:03.the area to check they're well`equipped in case of a fire.

:13:04. > :13:06.When a fire happens in somebody's local area, it brings it home that

:13:07. > :13:14.fires can happen in the safest of homes. They realise they need

:13:15. > :13:22.protection, so we take the opportunity to come out and reassure

:13:23. > :13:26.people. I only had one smoke alarm at the top of the stairs. I thought

:13:27. > :13:30.it would be safe with just the one. Now there are two fitted. I feel

:13:31. > :13:36.more secure. You have to get into the habit of testing them. Over 80%

:13:37. > :13:41.of households in the country own a smoke alarm. But the Fire Service

:13:42. > :13:45.says that unless you check it's working, it's just a lump of plastic

:13:46. > :13:54.on the ceiling. I recommend that people test their alarms. Check it

:13:55. > :13:59.after this programme. Check you have a working one on each level of the

:14:00. > :14:15.house. Sit down as a family and create a plan. The Fire Service

:14:16. > :14:19.hopes their advice will be heeded. People living in a historic village

:14:20. > :14:22.mentioned in the Domesday Book are campaigning to move the route of HS2

:14:23. > :14:25.further away from their homes. They claim the line will blight their

:14:26. > :14:29.properties and a businessman says a ?1 million office building will have

:14:30. > :14:34.to be demolished. High speed rail officials say no final decisions

:14:35. > :14:39.have been made. This couple say their lives have been blighted by

:14:40. > :14:43.the plans for High Speed Rail. The line is due to pass within 100

:14:44. > :14:47.metres of their home, which is also a bed breakfast business. It will

:14:48. > :14:51.be in the field next door. They had planned to sell up and retire to a

:14:52. > :14:58.part of the building that's been newly renovated at a cost of around

:14:59. > :15:04.?100,000. We're not sure where the line's going to be. There's been no

:15:05. > :15:08.sign of compensation. It has blighted us. The Walkers want HS2 to

:15:09. > :15:12.move the line to the other side of the M1, or to use the exisiting line

:15:13. > :15:16.` across the countryside and about a mile away. The village of Strelley

:15:17. > :15:25.is mentioned in the Domesday Book. Strelley Hall ` now a business

:15:26. > :15:28.centre ` dates back to the 1200s. The owner has invested nearly ?1

:15:29. > :15:34.million in this office building on the grounds. HS2 means it will have

:15:35. > :15:38.to be demolished. He also wants the line to move further away from

:15:39. > :15:41.Strelley. The other one would be a much better route. It's more than a

:15:42. > :15:48.mile away from here. There's been a railway line there for over 150

:15:49. > :15:51.years. It's almost all open country. HS2 says it's already rejected the

:15:52. > :15:55.idea of keeping the line away from this historic village. It says the

:15:56. > :15:59.other line has old mining problems and more people live along that

:16:00. > :16:03.route. But it says nothing yet had been finally decided. HS2 says it

:16:04. > :16:13.wants to hear the views of the public, throughout a consulation

:16:14. > :16:20.period that ends in January. Still to come tonight: Anna's here

:16:21. > :16:22.with the weekend weather. And I must have been a good girl... Because

:16:23. > :16:51.I've got 116 Santas! I bet they're noisy! It's a noisy

:16:52. > :16:54.sport tonight, too! Fight night is nearly here, as

:16:55. > :16:56.Nottingham's Carl Froch takes on cocky Londoner George Groves

:16:57. > :17:07.tomorrow night at the Manchester Arena. On the eve of this fight,

:17:08. > :17:11.everybody is here... And you only have to look at this pair once to

:17:12. > :17:21.see that they really don't like each other!

:17:22. > :17:31.I'm sharp. I'm fit. I'm fast. I'm healthy. He's had a lot to say.

:17:32. > :17:36.We've all heard it. It's been quite embarrassing. I think he believes

:17:37. > :17:41.I'm going to get in there and run. But Carl, you're wrong. I'm going to

:17:42. > :17:47.meet him. Ridiculous. Pathetic. What's pathetic? You are. He's

:17:48. > :17:53.fighting for himself. And he's losing. Saturday is going to be very

:17:54. > :17:57.pleasurable. Not just for me, but for the fans and the viewing public.

:17:58. > :18:08.This is where I belong. I'm going to be World Champion. You're getting

:18:09. > :18:11.annhilated. Everybody knows it. You're getting absolutely flattened.

:18:12. > :18:24.I can't wait. Look at the crowd. There must be

:18:25. > :18:36.over 1,000 here for the weigh`in. Sparks were flying yet again between

:18:37. > :18:39.the two. One man who has covered Carl Froch's career for well over a

:18:40. > :18:44.decade is this guy. He's been catching up with him. This is

:18:45. > :18:47.brilliant. Much better than years ago, when I used to weigh`in in

:18:48. > :18:55.front of about ten people! This is all part of it. The verbals. It's

:18:56. > :18:59.the first time I've talked to him without a microphone attached. So

:19:00. > :19:03.every time I've talked to that idiot, they've known what I've said.

:19:04. > :19:12.I'll watch my words... But I told him what I really think of him. I'm

:19:13. > :19:19.going to flatten him. A lot worse than that if the referee gives me

:19:20. > :19:29.the chance. You're very confident? Is that a trick question? You know I

:19:30. > :19:36.am. I'll do the business. Carl is a huge Nottingham Forest fan and it's

:19:37. > :19:46.a big weekend for them. They take on top of the table Burnley. Derby

:19:47. > :19:50.County travel to Bournemouth, and the big talking point there this

:19:51. > :19:54.week is whether starlet Will Hughes is staying put. Eventually he'll go

:19:55. > :20:01.to a top club. No doubt. He's got the talent. But he still has a lot

:20:02. > :20:07.to learn. We want him to do that here. The Foxes are still smarting

:20:08. > :20:13.after their defeat by Forest, but they say they were simply unlucky.

:20:14. > :20:20.We've played worse and won. I can think of certain games. That's the

:20:21. > :20:27.nature of this division. We'll keep things in perspective. We've had a

:20:28. > :20:32.decent start. The players are in a positive frame of mind. Up against

:20:33. > :20:35.the league leaders, a Forest side depleted by injuries. It's a massive

:20:36. > :20:39.weekend for The Reds, but they're still ready to wish one of their

:20:40. > :20:46.biggest fans all the best! COME ON CARL! You've got the support of

:20:47. > :20:49.everybody at Forrest. `` Forest. We wish you the best. Hopefully we'll

:20:50. > :20:59.be celebrating alongwith you. Go and do it! One man who knows Carl Froch

:21:00. > :21:12.very well is heavyweight legend David Haye. Is this hatred genuine?

:21:13. > :21:17.They dislike each other. They've been digging at each other for a

:21:18. > :21:26.while. Now they have a fight, the world can see. It's a genuine grudge

:21:27. > :21:30.match. Carl is Britain's best at the moment. George Groves hasn't lost a

:21:31. > :21:37.professional fight. What can we expect? Fireworks. These guys have

:21:38. > :21:43.the ability to beat each other. Carl is one of our best exports. He's

:21:44. > :21:49.gone to other people's back yards and fought the best. George hasn't

:21:50. > :21:54.yet but this is his opportunity. He believes he's better than Carl. He

:21:55. > :22:04.wants to prove it. That's why it's so interesting. Thanks. You've seen

:22:05. > :22:09.lots of fights. What about that reception. It's an all`British fight

:22:10. > :22:14.but we know who they're supporting? Definitely. We know. There's only

:22:15. > :22:22.one person to support! Fantastic. He's a massive superstar. Brilliant

:22:23. > :22:36.ambassador for the sport. He's going to smash Groves to bits. It's

:22:37. > :22:41.brilliant. Groves is in deep water. He can look at the belts but he

:22:42. > :22:49.isn't getting his hands on them. Carl and his wife Rachel can't wait.

:22:50. > :22:52.Just time for me to wish the Leicester Tigers good luck against

:22:53. > :22:58.London Irish tomorrow. All the best to the Nottingham Panthers as well,

:22:59. > :23:04.who have a European adventure. But it's going to be huge here in

:23:05. > :23:12.Manchester tomorrow. Tickets sold out in 11 minutes. 17,000 fans will

:23:13. > :23:26.be there as Carl Froch puts his two world titles on the line. Exciting!

:23:27. > :23:29.And finally ` golfers have traditionally been known for their

:23:30. > :23:34.rather colourful clothing... But how about this? 116 of them turned up in

:23:35. > :23:38.Leicestershire today, all wearing identical red outfits. Why? Well,

:23:39. > :23:45.Carolyn Moses caught up with them ` getting into their seasonal swing! I

:23:46. > :23:48.don't know about you, but it always gets pretty busy for me around

:23:49. > :23:52.Christmas. I thought I'd have a day off at the golf course. A bit of

:23:53. > :23:57.rest and relaxation. Hopefully I've got the green to myself. Did I miss

:23:58. > :24:00.something? No, there wasn't just one... But more than 100 Santas

:24:01. > :24:08.today, preparing to get their own swing in. What do you call a whole

:24:09. > :24:14.load of Santas? A SLEIGHFUL! They're ho`ho`hoping to do some good! In

:24:15. > :24:19.fact, this sleighful was ready to get playful ` raising cash for the

:24:20. > :24:21.Rainbows Children's Hospice. Organisers were thrilled that so

:24:22. > :24:27.many Santas swopped pressies for putting. It originates from Santa

:24:28. > :24:31.fun runs. People raise a lot of money for charity and it is a great

:24:32. > :24:34.day to do it. 116 people all dressed up as Santa, attempting to play

:24:35. > :24:52.golf. DRIVING HOME FOR CHRISTMAS PLAYS.

:24:53. > :24:58.And who do we have here? It's snooker legend Willie Thorne! Why

:24:59. > :25:02.are you here today? It is great to be here. I've been a patron of the

:25:03. > :25:06.charity for seven years. We've got 116 people dressed as Santa. And

:25:07. > :25:07.this time I'm going to try to get the white ball in the hole... Unlike

:25:08. > :25:20.snooker! It should be good fun. Thousands of pounds have been raised

:25:21. > :25:32.by this pre`festive fun. Afterwards, it was time for the good rest. They

:25:33. > :25:46.have another big day next month. Merry Christmas! Slightly surreal...

:25:47. > :25:56.But that's made me feel very festive!

:25:57. > :26:16.Now for the weather. Here are some pictures. The high pressure that is

:26:17. > :26:26.with us as we go through the weekend continues to dominate well into next
