:00:00. > :00:13.taken ill at a dance event tonight. There is also a first look
:00:14. > :00:17.And now the news for the East Midlands, I'm Dominic Heale. Good
:00:18. > :00:20.evening. First, tonight, the announcement
:00:21. > :00:23.that's safeguarded hundreds of jobs in the region and will keep
:00:24. > :00:26.train`making alive in Derby. That ?1 billion pound contract awarded to
:00:27. > :00:29.Bombardier. Our reporter Simon Hare has been at the firm's factory in
:00:30. > :00:38.the City since the details were confirmed.
:00:39. > :00:41.1500 people work at Bombardier. The current order book lasts until next
:00:42. > :00:46.year, but news of today's order guarantees work for the next five
:00:47. > :00:49.years. This is a walk`through vehicle, very
:00:50. > :00:54.similar to what the Crossrail vehicles are going to be like.
:00:55. > :00:58.Kevin Owen has been here 27 years. He says there is real relief among
:00:59. > :01:01.the workers that they know their future is secure.
:01:02. > :01:07.There definitely was apprehension about not knowing, because the
:01:08. > :01:11.uncertainty is the biggest fear. As soon as we got the news, everybody
:01:12. > :01:15.was jumping for joy. The ?1 billion order is to provide
:01:16. > :01:20.trains for a new Crossrail route through and under London. Bombardier
:01:21. > :01:26.will make 65 trains which carry passengers on the line. Today, the
:01:27. > :01:28.Secretary of State for Transport and Derbyshire Dales MP dropped in to
:01:29. > :01:31.see where his department's investment was going. He denied it
:01:32. > :01:35.was purely a political decision, after criticism three years ago,
:01:36. > :01:41.after an even bigger order went to a German company.
:01:42. > :01:45.They've won it because the management and the workforce put
:01:46. > :01:49.together an excellent deal. They won it very overwhelmingly so. I think
:01:50. > :01:55.it's great news for Derby, it's great news for manufacturing in the
:01:56. > :01:58.East Midlands. This year marks the 175th
:01:59. > :02:01.anniversary of train building in Derby. It's provided work for
:02:02. > :02:03.generation after generation. Today's announcement means that, although
:02:04. > :02:04.the designs may have changed, it remains 0
:02:05. > :02:10.the designs may have changed, it remains a career and in industry for
:02:11. > :02:14.the future. Well, Angela Dean is the Head of the
:02:15. > :02:17.School of Technology at the University of Derby. She told me the
:02:18. > :02:18.announcement's a real confidence booster for the city, 0
:02:19. > :02:23.announcement's a real confidence booster for the city, and for its
:02:24. > :02:28.next generation of engineers. When the last contract went abroad,
:02:29. > :02:31.it was a kick in the teeth for the East Midlands.
:02:32. > :02:32.So, this new 0 East Midlands.
:02:33. > :02:36.So, this new contract will take forward the industry in Derby for
:02:37. > :02:39.probably the next ten years, and then we'll be able to take it
:02:40. > :02:42.forward for the next 30 years. The East Midlands has a great stock
:02:43. > :02:46.of manufacturers ` Rolls`Royce, Toyota and Caterpillar. How
:02:47. > :02:50.significant is this region on the global stage?
:02:51. > :02:53.Well, I've travelled quite a lot for my work, and everybody knows Derby.
:02:54. > :02:56.Everybody knows Rolls`Royce. Everybody knows Bombardier, and
:02:57. > :02:59.everybody knows Toyota. It's one of the places that, around the world,
:03:00. > :03:07.is known for its manufacturing industry, and the quality of
:03:08. > :03:10.products that it produces. Of course, this is very good news
:03:11. > :03:13.for the smaller companies in and around Derby.
:03:14. > :03:16.Derby has a large number of high`tech businesses which are small
:03:17. > :03:19.or medium`sized enterprises, but they feed into the wider economy,
:03:20. > :03:23.and also into the large manufacturers in the supply chain.
:03:24. > :03:30.This will be a huge boost to many of those companies. They'll find it a
:03:31. > :03:41.real lifeline to take them forward. Thank you Angela.
:03:42. > :03:43.Police investigating allegations of child sexual offences, connected to
:03:44. > :03:48.a theatre in Leicestershire, have arrested two men. Two others have
:03:49. > :03:52.also been banned from the Concordia in Hinckley as an investigation
:03:53. > :03:54.takes place. The County Council has launched its own safeguarding
:03:55. > :03:57.investigation, and says it won't issue licences for children to take
:03:58. > :04:03.part in any forthcoming productions there.
:04:04. > :04:06.The two people we've arrested so far are connected to the theatre, but
:04:07. > :04:11.the offences we suspect them of committing were not committed at the
:04:12. > :04:15.theatre itself. They were committed away from the theatre. The two
:04:16. > :04:17.people who have been banned by the theatre at our request have
:04:18. > :04:20.obviously not been arrested. However, information in our
:04:21. > :04:26.possession leads us to believe that they are not fit to be part of that
:04:27. > :04:29.theatre. There's been a huge rise in
:04:30. > :04:35.complaints about websites offering online form`checking services. They
:04:36. > :04:37.do very little, yet charge huge sums of money. Trading Standards in
:04:38. > :04:43.Nottinghamshire says it's seeing unprecedented levels already this
:04:44. > :04:45.year. Sarah Teale has more. These are independent companies
:04:46. > :04:48.which offer some kind of checking service for applications, like
:04:49. > :04:51.passports or tax returns. But, the problem is, they are designed to
:04:52. > :04:54.look like the official website, so people don't realise they're paying
:04:55. > :04:59.for something they may not even need. Nottinghamshire Trading
:05:00. > :05:04.Standards say the problem is escalating. Throughout the whole of
:05:05. > :05:07.last year, they received 41 complaints about this sort of
:05:08. > :05:11.practice. So far, this year, they've already received 24 complaints. I've
:05:12. > :05:14.been speaking to Rebecca Hardiman from West Bridgford in Nottingham `
:05:15. > :05:19.she lost hundreds of pounds after filling in her annual tax return
:05:20. > :05:22.form. I googled tax return HMRC, and at
:05:23. > :05:26.the very top there was this tax return gateway. I went through and
:05:27. > :05:35.filled it in, and then at the end they asked me for ?400.
:05:36. > :05:41.Did you think you were just paying the tax that you owed?
:05:42. > :05:44.I did think so, and I couldn't understand why it came out at ?400.
:05:45. > :05:47.It would have been nothing like that. I was horrified. I was really
:05:48. > :05:51.annoyed with myself because I'm usually really careful.
:05:52. > :05:53.What do you think about the company itself?
:05:54. > :05:58.It's just borderline legal, but it's so deceptive.
:05:59. > :06:02.Rebecca hasn't had her money back, and the website involved has
:06:03. > :06:04.suspended operations. But there are many similar companies out there
:06:05. > :06:12.offering services for driving licences, European health forms,
:06:13. > :06:14.visas and passports. To avoid these checking companies, make sure you
:06:15. > :06:19.get to the official government website. You will know you were
:06:20. > :06:25.there because they always end in .gov.uk. Make sure you see that on
:06:26. > :06:28.the web address and you should be OK.
:06:29. > :06:29.That's your news. So, it's goodbye from me ` but with your weather,
:06:30. > :06:41.now, here's Anna Church. B and several theme is set to
:06:42. > :06:49.continue into the weekend. A brief respite tomorrow afternoon. `` be
:06:50. > :06:53.unsettled theme. The rain is with us quite heavily and persistently at
:06:54. > :07:01.the moment. Where we already have the saturated ground, The Met office
:07:02. > :07:06.have issued a yellow warning. Some mild `` a mild night with lows of
:07:07. > :07:11.four degrees. Lights, patchy rain first thing tomorrow morning, but
:07:12. > :07:16.that starts to clear away. Long spells of sunshine during the
:07:17. > :07:21.afternoon, and it will be breezy with a top temperature of seven.
:07:22. > :07:25.Looking at your outlook, it is going to be quite wet on Friday night into
:07:26. > :07:27.Saturday, with some blustery showers and strong winds on Saturday. An
:07:28. > :07:42.improvement on is one day. Hello. I think the impact of this
:07:43. > :07:45.wet weather could be felt more widely as time goes on, even in
:07:46. > :07:52.areas which have been unscathed up until now. For now, the focus is on
:07:53. > :07:55.southern England. We have amber weather warnings right through until
:07:56. > :08:05.Saturday. We have another storm heading in. They are queueing up in
:08:06. > :08:09.the Atlantic. The storms will take place of this one which is giving a
:08:10. > :08:14.current spell of what weather this evening and overnight. Wet and
:08:15. > :08:18.windy, particularly through the English Channel. The rain falling
:08:19. > :08:31.snow across higher ground of northern England and Wales. Further
:08:32. > :08:34.north, rather quite a picture across Scotland and Northern Ireland. A
:08:35. > :08:39.touch of frost so icy patches are more of a hazard through the early
:08:40. > :08:40.part of tomorrow morning. Chilly across
