:00:00. > :00:16.50 years on, it is still being felt. That's all from us.

:00:17. > :00:22.A controversial free school in Derby has been ordered by the government

:00:23. > :00:25.to close its secondary school. Last October, Ofsted put Al`Madinah into

:00:26. > :00:35.special measures, saying it was in chaos. Its primary school however

:00:36. > :00:40.will stay open. This Muslim school has been widely

:00:41. > :00:44.condemned for some time before offering a poor quality of teaching.

:00:45. > :00:49.The schools minister has now written to the new trustees confirming the

:00:50. > :00:53.secondary school must close at the end of this summer term. In a

:00:54. > :00:55.letter, he says he is concerned at the poor quality of teaching and

:00:56. > :01:17.lack of breadth in the curriculum. Today, parents gave this reaction

:01:18. > :01:20.outside the school. I was going to move my son anyway because he was

:01:21. > :01:30.not happy there and was not making any progress. I am quite disgusted

:01:31. > :01:35.that this decision has been made because they have not taken our

:01:36. > :01:40.children into consideration. When Ofsted inspected the school in

:01:41. > :01:46.October, they called it in chaos and dysfunctional. The man in charge now

:01:47. > :01:49.agrees with those findings. He says it was the right decision to shut

:01:50. > :01:55.the secondary school down so they can focus on the primary school.

:01:56. > :01:58.Setting up a primary school and secondary school simultaneously,

:01:59. > :02:08.despite the community giving them strong advice as to not being the

:02:09. > :02:14.thing to do, it is damaging. People will judge all schools `` all three

:02:15. > :02:22.schools based on Al`Madinah School. It is my job now to prove that this

:02:23. > :02:29.turn can `` this school can turn itself around. In the meantime, the

:02:30. > :02:34.focus is the 140 pupils left at the Al who must now find new schools by

:02:35. > :02:37.September. Two brothers have been jailed for

:02:38. > :02:40.trafficking vulnerable men into the East Midlands to exploit them for

:02:41. > :02:43.tens of thousands of pounds. The modern`day slavery racket in Derby

:02:44. > :02:52.was only discovered when one of the victims sought help from church

:02:53. > :02:55.workers. Cramped conditions where some of the

:02:56. > :03:02.men were discovered living, mattresses invested `` infested with

:03:03. > :03:06.bugs. It came to light when police raided a number of houses in Derby

:03:07. > :03:14.last July. They found evidence that a dozen check and Slovak men were

:03:15. > :03:18.being explored for `` exploited for benefits. Victims were lured to the

:03:19. > :03:24.UK with promises of work and money. There was plenty of money but they

:03:25. > :03:29.saw very little money. When I was in Prague, I met with these people and

:03:30. > :03:36.they promised they would give me ?50 a week. When they turned up and

:03:37. > :03:41.started talking about England, I thought, I have never been there,

:03:42. > :03:49.let's go. It ended up the way it ended up. I ended up with ?10

:03:50. > :03:55.instead. Brothers Igor Marcin and Marek Marcin and human trafficking

:03:56. > :04:03.and today were jailed for 14 months and 50 months respectively. Some

:04:04. > :04:09.evidence that this gang were looking at trafficking more people?

:04:10. > :04:13.Absolutely, you heard of the evidence today where they were

:04:14. > :04:19.talking to potential victims for the purpose of sexual exploitation.

:04:20. > :04:23.Their wives admitted fraud and were given ten and eight month sentences

:04:24. > :04:29.but what free from court having served already half of their

:04:30. > :04:33.sentence on remand. It is estimated the family made ?150,000 from the

:04:34. > :04:40.scam. A hearing to determine is what happens to their assets including

:04:41. > :04:44.prestige cars is due to be heard it. Elections to the European Parliament

:04:45. > :04:47.may be four months off but UKIP was in Nottingham today for the start of

:04:48. > :04:50.its regional campaign. Leading its list of candidates for the East

:04:51. > :05:02.Midlands, Roger Helmer, a former Conservative MEP who defected.

:05:03. > :05:05.The Lions might have lost their raw in Nottinghampos`mac historic square

:05:06. > :05:09.but politically, UKIP plans to make a big noise in the build`up to the

:05:10. > :05:15.election for the European Parliament. Leading the way, Roger

:05:16. > :05:23.Helmer, a Conservative MP who is now standing for UKIP. We say Europe is

:05:24. > :05:28.damaging Britain, it is causing `` costing us money and we want a

:05:29. > :05:33.referendum now. UKIP is pinning its hopes on some of these candidates

:05:34. > :05:39.getting elected. At present, UKIP has two out of the five MEPs that

:05:40. > :05:42.represent our region. In the last European Parliamentary elections

:05:43. > :05:46.here, UKIP came third, beating the Liberal Democrats and almost

:05:47. > :05:50.knocking Labour from second spot. That cost enough other political

:05:51. > :05:56.sensation. This time, UKIP hoping to do even better. There's been a sea

:05:57. > :06:01.change in British politics and UKIP are at the top of that sea change. I

:06:02. > :06:06.think we have every chance of winning in the East Midlands. By

:06:07. > :06:14.this staging such an early launch, they hope to set the pace up to

:06:15. > :06:17.polling day in May. In tonight's rugby, Leicester Tigers

:06:18. > :06:22.beat Worcester 23`22 thanks to a late Toby Flood penalty goal.

:06:23. > :06:25.Finally, a really big moment for Nottingham speed skater Jon Eley. He

:06:26. > :06:29.led Team GB into the Winter Olympics opening ceremony earlier. He is at

:06:30. > :06:32.his third games and led in the biggest British team for almost 30

:06:33. > :06:37.years. 56 competitors, among them several serious medal contenders.

:06:38. > :06:47.That's the news and sports, I'll be back with more for you across the

:06:48. > :06:50.weekend. The weather is next. The rain is back and it is said to

:06:51. > :06:54.be quite an unsubtle weekend. Blustery showers tomorrow and strong

:06:55. > :07:02.winds of up to 50 miles an hour possible. As we go through the rest

:07:03. > :07:06.of the evening, we have started to see the rain pushing. It will turn

:07:07. > :07:12.heavy and persistent for a time into the early hours of Saturday morning

:07:13. > :07:19.before keeping `` leaving with just a few showers. Tomorrow morning will

:07:20. > :07:24.be a dry and bright start but then the rain pushes injuring the

:07:25. > :07:27.afternoon. Very strong and gusty winds during the afternoon. This is

:07:28. > :07:43.the outlook for the next few days. Hello again. Nelson's flag ship HMS

:07:44. > :07:46.victory, was launched in 1765 and you can still see it today in

:07:47. > :07:50.Portsmouth Harbour. But through the whole of that history, you will

:07:51. > :07:54.struggle to find a wetter winter than this one across southern

:07:55. > :08:00.England. Scotland has already been in the record books. Their December

:08:01. > :08:05.was the wettest since standardised records began about 100 years ago.

:08:06. > :08:08.There's plenty more where that came from. Another storm is knocking on

:08:09. > :08:09.the door and will affect the whole of Western
