:00:27. > :00:29.centre to learn lessons on improving survival rates. But the unit remains
:00:30. > :00:31.under threat because of a long`running review into children's
:00:32. > :00:45.heart surgery across the country. Rob Sissons reports.
:00:46. > :00:51.Kirsty owes her life to the hospital and the artificial lung machine,
:00:52. > :00:57.ECMO. Her father was told what no parent ever want to hear. My family
:00:58. > :01:01.was told I had two days to live. I was on the ECMO for 13 weeks.
:01:02. > :01:07.Without that, I would not be here today. Not many people know what it
:01:08. > :01:13.is all about, but it saves lives. These experts know what ECMO is, and
:01:14. > :01:17.have flown from Japan to discover the secrets behind White Leicester
:01:18. > :01:23.has survival rates twice as good for ECMO as in their own country. It is
:01:24. > :01:26.why we came here, to find out what makes the English system so good.
:01:27. > :01:37.Leicester is a good place, and we have learnt a lot. It is tomorrow
:01:38. > :01:39.they worry about here, a seemingly never`ending NHS review could still
:01:40. > :01:46.see children's heart surgery stopped in Leicester and ECMO and here too.
:01:47. > :01:51.You could set up a new ECMO unit in any hospital, and Birmingham has a
:01:52. > :01:58.new cardiac unit which does very good work, at this unit would take
:01:59. > :02:03.many years to replicate in a new hospital. I am just so grateful to
:02:04. > :02:07.be here. The ECMO saved my life. I really think they should keep it
:02:08. > :02:11.open because it will save a lot of lives. The future of ECMO is still
:02:12. > :02:15.up in the air, but for now, it is business as usual for the
:02:16. > :02:18.life`saving team. The man accused of the attempted
:02:19. > :02:22.murder of a Sikh spiritual leader in Leicester has told a court he bought

:02:26. > :02:32.denies harbouring any intention to kill the man, described by his

:03:07. > :03:11.intending to frighten his victim. He admits grievous bodily harm, but
:03:12. > :03:13.denies attempted murder. The prosecution alleges that Harjit

:06:03. > :06:10.the world. It was built in the late 1830s. What is so innovative about
:06:11. > :06:12.it is that it is built at an angle. English Heritage has hunted through

:07:20. > :07:22.Here's a sneak preview from there tonight as the pair work to recreate

:07:33. > :07:35.It's goodbye from me, but here's Mel with the weather forecast. It is
:07:36. > :07:47.amazing. The East Midlands have escaped the
:07:48. > :07:53.worst of the wind so far. In the Derbyshire Peak district, the gusts
:07:54. > :07:56.have up and up to 80 mph, which is where the amber warning is still in
:07:57. > :08:01.place, issued by The Met office. That last until midnight. Across the
:08:02. > :08:05.East Midlands we have a yellow warning, which lasts until first
:08:06. > :08:12.thing tomorrow morning. It will remain windy this meet `` this
:08:13. > :08:16.evening. It will be dry with clear spells for many places, and there
:08:17. > :08:19.will be the risk of ice first thing in the morning with temperatures
:08:20. > :08:23.dropping close to or just below freezing in some rural spots.
:08:24. > :08:27.Tomorrow will be the better day. The wins will still be quite strong
:08:28. > :08:30.first thing in the morning, with one or two showers around, which may
:08:31. > :08:37.have a wintry flavour. Certainly, more in the way of dry and bright
:08:38. > :08:42.spells. Top temperature tomorrow of six Celsius, so it will remain
:08:43. > :08:46.fairly cool throughout. Into Friday, the respite is short lived. Another
:08:47. > :08:57.area of low pressure sweeping in, bringing more wet weather and strong
:08:58. > :08:59.winds. Your national forecast will be here in a moment. Here is the
:09:00. > :09:13.outlook for the next few days. Good evening. What an incredible day
:09:14. > :09:18.of weather it has been. We saw gusts of wind up to 108 mph in the West of
:09:19. > :09:21.Wales. The wind is easing down a notch or two but we still have a
:09:22. > :09:25.high-level amber warning from the Met Office for the strength of the
:09:26. > :09:29.wind over the next few hours over quite a large swathe of the UK.
:09:30. > :09:32.Northern Ireland, northern England and down across Wales, there is
:09:33. > :09:38.still potential for damaging and disruptive gusts of wind. This huge
:09:39. > :09:42.curl of cloud is bringing wet and windy weather across much of the
:09:43. > :09:45.West of Europe. It curls back across the north of the UK and that's the
:09:46. > :09:49.centre of the area of low pressure with the strongest winds just to the
:09:50. > :09:54.south of that. Let's focus on the winds over the next few hours. The
:09:55. > :09:59.ease down by a notch or two but still blustery conditions over most
:10:00. > :10:05.of Wales. High seas around the coast and gusting up to 70 mph. Easily
:10:06. > :10:09.around the 80 mph mark across much of northern England. Across the
:10:10. > :10:14.Pennines this evening and overnight, travelling will be treacherous. Wind
:10:15. > :10:18.and rain at lower levels will produce a lot of spray. You don t
:10:19. > :10:23.have to go to high up the Pennines to see that turned to snow. One way
:10:24. > :10:27.or another, further disruption to travel is more than likely. BBC
:10:28. > :10:31.local radio will keep you up-to date on where you are and where you are
:10:32. > :10:37.trying to get to. The centre of the low system moves northwards. Pretty
:10:38. > :10:40.heavy snow developing across the hills of Scotland with several
:10:41. > :10:43.centimetres by dawn. A bit of snow for Northern Ireland and wintry
:10:44. > :10:48.showers drifting across the southern counties. A risk of ice with most
:10:49. > :10:52.races are seeing the temperatures a degree or so either side of
:10:53. > :10:58.freezing. A cold, windy start Thursday but I think it be a better
:10:59. > :11:02.day. No persistent rain to be seen. There should be some spells of
:11:03. > :11:07.sunshine for many of us, as well. Does it last until the end of the
:11:08. > :11:12.week? I'm afraid not. It goes downhill on Friday. This low
:11:13. > :11:17.pressure will head our way. Lots of isobars on the chart later in the
:11:18. > :11:21.day. Gusts of 60, 70 or 80 mph, with rain spreading northwards.
:11:22. > :11:24.Significant snow for parts of Northern Ireland and southern
:11:25. > :11:29.Scotland. Windy into the start of the weekend. Saturday has outbreaks
:11:30. > :11:31.of rain. On Sunday, something of a respite. The winds will ease down
