:00:15. > :00:17.In And now the news for the East Midlands, I'm Dominic Heale, good

:00:18. > :00:21.evening. An inquest has heard how a pensioner

:00:22. > :00:25.died after she was left unsupervised in a care home with solid food she

:00:26. > :00:28.shouldn't have been eating. The care home looking after Betty Arch was so

:00:29. > :00:34.bad the Care Quality Commission took the unusual step of forcing it to

:00:35. > :00:41.close. Our health correspondent Rob Sissons reports. Betty Arch was 87,

:00:42. > :00:45.she had been left unsupervised in a room with the leftovers of

:00:46. > :00:50.sandwiches. Even though she was not supposed to have solids. Care plans

:00:51. > :00:54.were not kept up to date at the home and nutrition was not properly

:00:55. > :00:59.monitored. Staff reported being run ragged. They told the inquest they

:01:00. > :01:05.had not done enough. It happened back in 2012 and the now closed

:01:06. > :01:11.Spring Lane residential home at Langley in Nottinghamshire was the

:01:12. > :01:13.venue. We heard about a catalogue of feelings and inspectors became

:01:14. > :01:21.concerned. The owner was Shirley Paul, carrying this white not bad,

:01:22. > :01:24.which she used to hide her face. She told the coroner she had nothing to

:01:25. > :01:28.do with care homes and has no plans to get involved in them again. She

:01:29. > :01:36.was asked during the hearing, directly by the coroner, if she

:01:37. > :01:41.understood the unexplained death. She said it had been investigated.

:01:42. > :01:46.The coroner said there was a great deal you did not know. The manager

:01:47. > :01:50.of the care home, Catherine Maltby, she said she had asked for more

:01:51. > :01:57.staff but it was not met with a positive response from the care home

:01:58. > :02:02.owner. The coroners questioned whether

:02:03. > :02:08.tablecloths may have been removed from the tables to save on Monday

:02:09. > :02:11.bills. The Care Quality Commission said

:02:12. > :02:16.they had no other choice but to close this home and to go to court

:02:17. > :02:20.to do it. The judge agreed, the owner contested it. The hearing has

:02:21. > :02:24.been adjourned for the coroner to deliver her conclusion.

:02:25. > :02:27.Dramatic pictures of the moment an elderly woman was robbed in

:02:28. > :02:31.Leicestershire have been released to try to trace her attacker. It

:02:32. > :02:38.happened in Melton Mowbray in December. Police want to identify

:02:39. > :02:41.the man seen here on CCTV. He turns round, approaches the 75`year`old

:02:42. > :02:44.from behind and grabs her bag. The pensioner suffered only minor

:02:45. > :02:46.injuries. Tonight, officers say they've been contacted by people

:02:47. > :02:54.offering information about who the man might be.

:02:55. > :02:57.Next tonight, the blind man refused service because of his guide dog.

:02:58. > :03:00.Steve Cunningham told us a restaurant turned him away and then

:03:01. > :03:10.a takeaway refused to let him in unless he left his Alsatian outside.

:03:11. > :03:16.Sarah Teale reports. I wanted to change the negative

:03:17. > :03:18.focus of a disability to a one. This is Steve Cunningham, giving a

:03:19. > :03:27.motivational talk, something he does at every day. He encourages people

:03:28. > :03:30.to understand disability. So he was particularly disgusted at his

:03:31. > :03:36.treatment at these two premises. Steve said first this restaurant

:03:37. > :03:41.refused to allow him to gain with his ulceration dog. Despite being

:03:42. > :03:49.allowed into this kebab house on Tuesday, last night, they were both

:03:50. > :03:53.told to leave `` Alsatian dog. You should not be in a situation where

:03:54. > :03:57.you are faced with these challenges and barriers. Gade dogs for the

:03:58. > :04:05.Blind and the general public spent thousands of pounds enabling an

:04:06. > :04:09.amazing animallike Foster to help me with my independence. To slap me in

:04:10. > :04:14.the face by not allowing me into a restaurant as incorrect. Blind and

:04:15. > :04:17.partially sighted people are entitled to the same rights as

:04:18. > :04:22.services like restaurants as everyone else. They should amend a

:04:23. > :04:29.no dogs policy to allow gay dogs onto the premises, that is what

:04:30. > :04:34.Steve Cunningham believes. Steve went blind at the age of 12, the

:04:35. > :04:40.same age as Alice, one of the pupils who listens to him speak today. She

:04:41. > :04:45.is going to have her first gay dog on, how will she feel if she gets

:04:46. > :04:48.thrown out of a venue? It must stop. Well, the owner of both premises

:04:49. > :04:52.told us tonight that staff had not been aware of the laws surrounding

:04:53. > :04:54.guide dogs. `` deed dog. They've apologised and said no offence was

:04:55. > :04:57.intended. A motorist from Leicestershire is

:04:58. > :05:05.calling for a roundabout to be re`painted after she was involved in

:05:06. > :05:09.an accident. Ann Corbett hit another car in Whitwick ` she says she

:05:10. > :05:12.didn't see the roundabout as the paint was so faded. Helen Astle

:05:13. > :05:16.reports. This is the roundabout that's the problem. Motorists do not

:05:17. > :05:19.seem to see it, so they do not stop. Ann Corbett hit another car because

:05:20. > :05:24.she didn't realise the roundabout was there. The first I knew about it

:05:25. > :05:28.was a crunch on the side of the car. I had seen no road markings that had

:05:29. > :05:32.led me to think that I needed to stop at the junction. I considered

:05:33. > :05:35.it to be very worn out and dangerous because two other people, heard

:05:36. > :05:38.speaking, said there had been two accidents there that week.

:05:39. > :05:42.We have only been here 15 minutes or so and nearly every driver chooses

:05:43. > :05:45.to either ignore or doesn't see the roundabout. Locals say it is

:05:46. > :05:48.dangerous. It is very low, you go straight over it. And that's just

:05:49. > :05:52.rubbing all of the paintwork off, so anyone not knowing the area, it's

:05:53. > :05:56.very hard to see and you can easily get caught out. People pulling out

:05:57. > :06:00.the junction and many a time it is either clear or someone goes into

:06:01. > :06:11.the railings on the other side because they are trying to avoid it.

:06:12. > :06:14.It is quite common, actually. Ann Corbett's accident was in November

:06:15. > :06:20.and she has asked the county council to ask for the roundabout to be

:06:21. > :06:24.repainted. I am concerned for other people and County Hall has assured

:06:25. > :06:27.me that they would send someone out. Had they seen the state of it,

:06:28. > :06:33.surely they should have done something about it. Leicestershire

:06:34. > :06:37.County Council says it has visited the site and the road markings are

:06:38. > :06:38.due to be repainted in the next few weeks.

:06:39. > :06:51.Time for the weather. We are in for a drier mates tonight

:06:52. > :06:54.with clearer skies making it feel quite chilly. The rain has moved

:06:55. > :07:00.away but we still have one or two showers at the moment. Those will

:07:01. > :07:05.ease away. We have lighter winds with temperature starting to drop.

:07:06. > :07:11.We are looking at the likes of three Celsius for towns and cities, rural

:07:12. > :07:15.areas may get a touch of frost. A cold starts to Friday, bright and

:07:16. > :07:19.sunny. More cloud through the afternoon and then a scattering of

:07:20. > :07:24.showers. The showers are likely to be heavy in nature with the risk of

:07:25. > :07:27.hail and thunder. There could be strengthening South`Westerly winds

:07:28. > :07:30.and temperatures struggling to get into double figures. I will leave

:07:31. > :07:32.you with the outlook for the next few days. You

:07:33. > :07:39.fairly cool stuff, showers coming through and that's the theme. I will

:07:40. > :07:42.leave you with that summary. Good evening. The skies were clear for

:07:43. > :07:46.most parts of the UK and it will turn quite cold but we have to get

:07:47. > :07:47.rid of the band of rain slipping its
