:00:00. > :00:14.in a moment with analysis of that debate between Nick Clegg and Nigel

:00:15. > :00:18.And now the news for the East Midlands, I'm Dominic Heale.

:00:19. > :00:22.Hundreds of teachers have been marching today in protest at changes

:00:23. > :00:25.to their pay, pensions and working conditions. A one`day strike by the

:00:26. > :00:31.National Union of Teachers affected around three hundred and thirty

:00:32. > :00:40.schools across the region. Almost 90 schools in Derby and Derbyshire were

:00:41. > :00:43.closed or partially closed. In Nottinghamshire, that figure was

:00:44. > :00:47.125, and there was a similar number in Leicestershire. In response, the

:00:48. > :00:56.Government has accused the NUT of holding back children's education.

:00:57. > :01:01.Here's Geeta Pendse. Sending a clear message to the

:01:02. > :01:05.education Secretary. Teachers gathered to mark through Nottingham

:01:06. > :01:10.city centre this morning, a day of strike action over pay, pensions and

:01:11. > :01:14.working conditions. The teaching table increase in time and length.

:01:15. > :01:21.We already work in excess of 60 hours a week. They are not alone.

:01:22. > :01:26.Unless the hundreds also met at Victoria Park to march through the

:01:27. > :01:31.city centre. `` in Leicester. And in Derby union members gathered at the

:01:32. > :01:34.marketplace. With teachers on the picket lines, many schools had

:01:35. > :01:40.reduced lessons or were forced to close which left parents with the

:01:41. > :01:43.task of making new arrangements. It's been inconvenienced because I

:01:44. > :01:50.have an older daughter and my little ones in nursery. So we have

:01:51. > :01:54.different timings and everything. They should stop acting like

:01:55. > :01:59.children and get on with their work. I fully support the teachers commits

:02:00. > :02:08.the right thing for them to do. It's just inconvenient it's only one day.

:02:09. > :02:14.The government has condemned strike action, saying it disrupts

:02:15. > :02:17.parents's lives, holds back children's education and damages the

:02:18. > :02:22.reputation but many here believe it is necessary step to safeguarding

:02:23. > :02:26.the future of teaching. Well, today's teachers' strike doesn't

:02:27. > :02:28.appear to have caused a big stir at Westminster.

:02:29. > :02:36.Earlier I spoke to our Political Editor John Hess. And I asked him to

:02:37. > :02:40.describe the reaction among MPs. Interesting that there was no

:02:41. > :02:43.reference during Prime Minister's Questions. The only formal

:02:44. > :02:49.government response came from the schools minister who said his

:02:50. > :02:53.officials at the Department for Education were fully engaged with

:02:54. > :02:56.talks with the seven unions, although he was critical of the Nu

:02:57. > :03:01.teeth are being the only union taking strike action. Is the

:03:02. > :03:07.government offering anything in terms of concessions? They say the

:03:08. > :03:12.talks are detailed and serious, covering teacher workloads,

:03:13. > :03:17.in`school training, inset days as well as school funding. The key

:03:18. > :03:21.complaint is that neither the schools minister or his boss, the

:03:22. > :03:26.education secretary Michael Gove, are taking part in the talks. Is

:03:27. > :03:31.Michael Gove part of the problem as far as teachers are concerned? He

:03:32. > :03:36.didn't take part in trying to bring up the heat of this dispute during

:03:37. > :03:40.questions in the Commons on Monday, and I think that's a sign that he

:03:41. > :03:50.wants to call down the rhetoric and get the dispute settled.

:03:51. > :03:53.A murder trial's been told that a gang leader organised the shooting

:03:54. > :03:56.of a 15`year`old boy in Derby. Kadeem Blackwood was killed with a

:03:57. > :04:00.sawn`off shotgun, after being challenged to a fight in a park. The

:04:01. > :04:03.court heard he turned up with a knife, not expecting guns to be

:04:04. > :04:05.used. Michael Hamblett`Sewell is accused of murder because he

:04:06. > :04:09.allegedly ordered the shooting, although he didn't fire the gun. The

:04:10. > :04:13.trial continues. The leader of Derby City Council has

:04:14. > :04:16.called for the resignation of a councillor who posted a picture of

:04:17. > :04:20.himself on Twitter holding an AK`47 assault rifle. Liberal Democrat Ajit

:04:21. > :04:23.Atwal ` who represents Abbey Ward ` says the picture was taken seven

:04:24. > :04:27.months ago on a personal trip to India. He says it has nothing to do

:04:28. > :04:34.with his position as a councillor and magistrate. However he has

:04:35. > :04:37.admitted to being naive. Passengers on board a Ryanair flight that

:04:38. > :04:40.plunged twenty thousand feet due to cabin pressure problems, have

:04:41. > :04:44.started legal proceedings against the airline.

:04:45. > :04:46.A number of those on the flight heading to East Midlands Airport

:04:47. > :04:49.suffered physical and psychological injuries. They're now seeking

:04:50. > :05:00.compensation from the company. Carol Hinds reports.

:05:01. > :05:06.On the masks came down, I just felt I was going to die, really. Two

:05:07. > :05:15.years ago, this Brazilian national and Ph.D. Student at Loughborough,

:05:16. > :05:25.boarded a Ryanair flight from Milan. The plane had reached 31,000 feet

:05:26. > :05:28.but just north of Switzerland, it lost cabin pressure. The crew

:05:29. > :05:34.started an emergency descent of about four miles in five minutes. It

:05:35. > :05:38.levelled out at 10,000 feet and the passengers were flown home from

:05:39. > :05:41.Germany on another flight. It was an ordeal that Patricia says has made

:05:42. > :05:46.it difficult for her to get on a plane. The effect have been

:05:47. > :05:54.devastating, and it's been almost two years since the accident, and it

:05:55. > :05:57.changed my life completely. Solicitors have issued legal

:05:58. > :06:03.proceedings against Ryanair on behalf of the affected passengers,

:06:04. > :06:05.who are seeking compensation. Since we were instructed, Ryanair have

:06:06. > :06:11.admitted liability, however the legal limitation period that applies

:06:12. > :06:15.to this action is only two years and expires at the beginning of April so

:06:16. > :06:19.to protect their legal rights we have had to issue proceedings

:06:20. > :06:23.against Ryanair. We contacted Ryanair about today's developments

:06:24. > :06:30.but they told us it's company policy not to comment on pending legal

:06:31. > :06:34.proceedings. Time for the weather now.

:06:35. > :06:42.We have had our fair share of showers earlier today. Even reported

:06:43. > :06:46.a bit of snow in parts of the East Midlands. Unsettled through the

:06:47. > :06:51.night with further showers, and rather cold out there. The showers

:06:52. > :07:00.are being driven in from the east, they continue for the next few

:07:01. > :07:08.hours. Mostly falling as rate or sleet. `` rain. There may be a bit

:07:09. > :07:15.of frost around first thing tomorrow. Also the risk of some ice

:07:16. > :07:18.on untreated surfaces. Actually start to Thursday, largely dry first

:07:19. > :07:29.thing but then the showers. To arrive. They will be intense through

:07:30. > :07:33.the afternoon. I will leave you with your Outlook.

:07:34. > :07:35.blowing. On the outlook, it is warming up towards the weekend.

:07:36. > :07:45.Here's Nick Miller with more. Some of the many faces of spring

:07:46. > :07:47.weather showed themselves today. Sun in Scotland, snow in the showers

:07:48. > :07:55.that moved in across England. Hail as well. Adrian took this picture

:07:56. > :07:56.from Essex and the chilly feel stays with us for the rest
