:00:00. > :00:13.forget a first look at the papers over on the BBC News

:00:14. > :00:15.explosions. And struggling with pollution, the latest. And now the

:00:16. > :00:19.news for the East Midlands, I'm Dominic Heale. Good evening. Part of

:00:20. > :00:23.Leicester City centre was closed for a time tonight after two explosions

:00:24. > :00:26.in the rush`hour. This photograph captured the moment of the second

:00:27. > :00:30.blast near the railway stathon on London Road. Several streets were

:00:31. > :00:36.sealed off after a fault in an underground electrical power cable

:00:37. > :00:39.blew off two manhole covers. One of them went through the window of a

:00:40. > :00:50.restaurant. Police said it was very lucky that no`one was injurdd.

:00:51. > :00:55.Two manhole covers were blown up but really fortunate considering how

:00:56. > :01:00.busy it is no one was injurdd. One of the covers, it has caused the

:01:01. > :01:03.damage in the window causing one of the windows to shatter but luckily

:01:04. > :01:06.nobody was injured inside the restaurant.

:01:07. > :01:09.As the countdown begins to the closure of the last deep mine in

:01:10. > :01:12.Nottinghamshire, the Prime Linister is promising the government will do

:01:13. > :01:15.everything possible to help preserve jobs. Six hundred are under threat

:01:16. > :01:20.at Thoresby after UK Coal announced it'll shut the colliery by next

:01:21. > :01:24.Autumn. But a mining union says there's a way of keeping it open for

:01:25. > :01:33.another four years. Here's our Chief News reporter Quentin Rayner. No

:01:34. > :01:39.prizes for guessing what thd main use is in a nearby village. The

:01:40. > :01:44.closure of Thoresby after 90 years. The fight to save the 600 jobs and

:01:45. > :01:49.the fears and the affected will have on the village.

:01:50. > :01:57.It has been the lifeblood of the village. I don't know whethdr people

:01:58. > :02:01.will find work. It is such ` shame because the mining communitx is a

:02:02. > :02:10.special place. You can see the pub has shut and

:02:11. > :02:13.2500 men work there. Regarding business, we are not sure

:02:14. > :02:17.what will happen because we are not sure what the knock`on effects

:02:18. > :02:21.because many men travel in from the area. UK Coal says the government

:02:22. > :02:24.must provide half of a ?20 lillion loan to keep the company solvent to

:02:25. > :02:29.finance a structured closurd over 18 months. This morning the Prhme

:02:30. > :02:35.Minister made this pledge. We will work as closely as we can, I

:02:36. > :02:38.am trying to save jobs to m`ke sure we have diverse supplies of energy

:02:39. > :02:43.so if we can help, we will help But the unions say there's a wax for the

:02:44. > :02:46.pit to stay open for another four years. They want the governlent to

:02:47. > :02:51.bid for European state aid to pay for a longer closure period.

:02:52. > :02:56.We were in Brussels yesterd`y and the commissioner told us we can

:02:57. > :03:00.apply, the British public c`n apply for state aid for closing of the

:03:01. > :03:04.mines which would run out until 2018. But the local MP who's been in

:03:05. > :03:11.talks with ministers and UK Coal for six weeks is sceptical. I al not

:03:12. > :03:15.confident we can do that. Wd need to keep the dialogue open, I whll keep

:03:16. > :03:20.the pressure on the minister but at the global price of coal picks up,

:03:21. > :03:23.it is an economic to remain open. The 45 day consultation beg`n today

:03:24. > :03:28.and with it the countdown to closure. Within 18 months the

:03:29. > :03:34.headstock wheels are expectdd to stop spinning after ninety xears.

:03:35. > :03:38.Police have arrested a seventh man in connection with the disappearance

:03:39. > :03:42.of a 15`year`old girl in Lehcester. Ana Simeonova was last seen by a

:03:43. > :03:47.family member in the Lee Circle area of Leicester last Tuesday evening.

:03:48. > :03:51.Five of the men arrested in the past week have been bailed. A 53`year`old

:03:52. > :03:54.was arrested this evening and remains in custody. Tonight officers

:03:55. > :03:59.have been carrying out door`to`door enquiries in the area.

:04:00. > :04:02.Pollution levels here have risen up the scale tonight ` to an index of

:04:03. > :04:07.eight ` officially categorised as 'high'. Ambulance bosses sax there's

:04:08. > :04:12.been a ten per cent rise in the number of emergency calls from

:04:13. > :04:14.people with breathing probldms. One Leicestershire man with cystic

:04:15. > :04:18.fibrosis says it's left him a virtual prisoner.

:04:19. > :04:28.Marius Gregory from Stoney Stanton is now on oxygen twenty`four hours a

:04:29. > :04:32.day. Helen Astle reports. Another day, and more pollution In

:04:33. > :04:37.the countryside as well as the cities, the picture is the same For

:04:38. > :04:43.most of us, it is a talking point but for one man it is life changing.

:04:44. > :04:48.He has cystic fibrosis, his lung capacity is that sent and the

:04:49. > :04:56.pollution is having a big ilpact. Since yesterday I have had oxygen 24

:05:13. > :05:16.say the current levels of ahr pollution are pretty rare.

:05:17. > :05:21.It is unusual to have quite similar factors all occurring at thd same

:05:22. > :05:26.time, it is unusual and worth a special measures this week to

:05:27. > :05:33.minimise the risk. My chest has been tight, I will not go out unless it's

:05:34. > :05:40.an emergency. Other than th`t, if I need something from the shop, I will

:05:41. > :05:44.bring my parents or get my fiance. Unless it is essential to move the

:05:45. > :05:49.house `` leave the house, I went. It's the first time I've noticed

:05:50. > :05:54.with the weather itself and that whether symptoms have needed the

:05:55. > :06:02.oxygen more. My chest is tighter and I am breathless. Even sitting down

:06:52. > :06:55.Tonight, a cloudy story, thdre are outbreaks of rain around. Spells of

:06:56. > :07:00.rain over the next few hours gradually clearing away to the north

:07:01. > :07:07.as we go through the night. It remains cloudy with mist in places.
