:00:00. > 3:59:59age of 68. That is all from us. There is a

:00:00. > :00:19.first look at And now the news for the East

:00:20. > :00:22.Midlands. I'm Maurice Flynn. A teenager from Loughborough has

:00:23. > :00:26.denied preparing a terrorist attack in his own home town. Today, Michael

:00:27. > :00:29.Piggin told the Old Bailey he was influenced by the Columbine High

:00:30. > :00:33.School killers. But he only wrote about repeating the attack `s a way

:00:34. > :00:35.to cope with bullying. Our social affairs correspondent, Jerely Ball,

:00:36. > :00:39.was in court. Michael Piggin was giving evidence

:00:40. > :00:42.for the first time in this trial. He went into the witness box wdaring an

:00:43. > :00:46.Arctic Monkeys t`shirt and puietly took the jury through his shde of

:00:47. > :00:50.the story, led by questions from his barrister. The central plank of

:00:51. > :00:53.Michael Piggin's defence ` that he was simply a bullied teenagdr who

:00:54. > :00:59.fantasised about killing as a coping mechanism but who never intdnded to

:01:00. > :01:02.go through with it. He said he was influenced by the Columbine killers

:01:03. > :01:06.and admitted that he felt sorry for them because, like him, thex'd been

:01:07. > :01:09.bullied. And he talked about a central piece of evidence in this

:01:10. > :01:12.case. Those detailed notes he wrote called Plans And Tactics For

:01:13. > :01:17.Operation: The New Columbind. His barrister, Ali Bajwa QC, asked, "Is

:01:18. > :01:22.this a genuine plan?" Michadl Piggin replied, "Of course not". And he was

:01:23. > :01:28.asked, "Did you approve of what they did?" The teenager said, "Of course

:01:29. > :01:31.not, no". He was also asked about this evidence ` a petrol bolb test.

:01:32. > :01:34.He said that was something he did with his friends, simply for

:01:35. > :01:39.entertainment. He said he collected air guns and knives because it was

:01:40. > :01:43.cool. Finally we heard about videos where he made threats on behalf of

:01:44. > :01:46.the Urban Revolutionary Armx. Michael Piggin suggested th`t was

:01:47. > :01:51.just teenage bravado. Next week he faces questions from the

:01:52. > :01:54.prosecution. The Leicestershire`based Rosemary

:01:55. > :01:57.Conley Food And Fitness company is terminating contracts with `ll

:01:58. > :02:00.franchisees across the country. The business is already in

:02:01. > :02:05.administration but a lack of cash coming in has prompted the love

:02:06. > :02:10.Simon Ward has more. It's a famous brand that is getting

:02:11. > :02:14.into difficulties. Already hn administration, parts of thd company

:02:15. > :02:17.are up for sale. Now it has been revealed more than 120 franchisees

:02:18. > :02:20.who run Rosemary Conley Food And Fitness clubs are having thdir

:02:21. > :02:26.contracts terminated becausd some were not paying regular fees. The

:02:27. > :02:30.business requires an income from management services fees paxable by

:02:31. > :02:34.the individual franchisees. A number have not been able to pay for one

:02:35. > :02:38.reason or another. That means the company cannot continue providing

:02:39. > :02:42.support to franchisees. Sharon Perdue is one of the franchhsees in

:02:43. > :02:47.Nottingham. She has operated for 19 years. We have been going to classes

:02:48. > :02:51.for the last ten weeks, tryhng to keep the smile on our face. The last

:02:52. > :02:55.week, Rosemary told us on Monday that we would be able to walk away

:02:56. > :02:59.from our contract. Yesterdax, we knew the date, which will bd the

:03:00. > :03:04.17th of April. That was a bht of a relief because we had been hn limbo.

:03:05. > :03:07.Then it was a little scary `s well. Rosemary Conley herself is

:03:08. > :03:10.travelling out of the UK but spoke on the phone. Discussions are

:03:11. > :03:16.ongoing with a number of parties who are interested in taking thd

:03:17. > :03:20.franchise operation forward. If that doesn't work out, there is ` real

:03:21. > :03:33.opportunity for franchisees to be able to use my name under lhcence.

:03:34. > :03:40.Administrators hope the company founder is right and someond steps

:03:41. > :03:44.in to rescue the business. A man's appeared in court, charged

:03:45. > :03:47.with the murder of a woman hn the Normanton area of Derby. Yvdtte

:03:48. > :03:51.Hallsworth was found dead on Sunday morning at the back of housds on

:03:52. > :03:54.Hartington Street. The 36`ydar`old died of stab wounds. 18`year`old

:03:55. > :03:59.Mateusz Kosecki appeared before magistrates in the city tod`y. He'll

:04:00. > :04:01.appear again at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday.

:04:02. > :04:04.Police have released CCTV c`ptured in the weeks before the

:04:05. > :04:07.disappearance of a Nottingh`m man who's been missing now for over

:04:08. > :04:12.three months. 22`year`old Bogdan Nawrocki was last seen in J`nuary in

:04:13. > :04:15.the Radford area of the citx. Detectives want to hear frol anyone

:04:16. > :04:19.who may have seen him. At a press conference last week his sister made

:04:20. > :04:23.an emotional plea for his rdturn. Now, she was as proud of Lehcester

:04:24. > :04:26.as Leicester was of her. Today a host of tributes have been paid to

:04:27. > :04:30.Sue Townsend, who's died agdd 6 . Born and raised in the East

:04:31. > :04:33.Midlands, Sue used the region for the setting of her most famous work

:04:34. > :04:40.` the Adrian Mole series. Aly Harris reports.

:04:41. > :04:45.Hapless hero Adrian Mole brought to life on TV. He is the creathon of

:04:46. > :04:47.Leicester's Sue Townsend, whose hugely popular diary series follows

:04:48. > :04:55.him from adolescence to mattrity, all set in and around her home

:04:56. > :04:59.city. She charted social history in an ordinary town that wasn't London

:05:00. > :05:07.over the course of 30 years, and all the changes. And also, she hs

:05:08. > :05:10.without a doubt a national treasure. Adrian Mole made Sue Townsend's name

:05:11. > :05:14.but her hero was originally called something else. And at the

:05:15. > :05:19.University of Leicester's lhbrary lies the evidence. This is one of

:05:20. > :05:24.our prize possessions, actu`lly One of our star items. This is the only

:05:25. > :05:28.draft manuscript of The Secret Diary Of Adrian Mole although you will

:05:29. > :05:31.notice at the top here that it is actually headed The Secret Diary Of

:05:32. > :05:44.Mole Maul Aged 14 And Three Quarters. `` Nigel Mole. Shd

:05:45. > :05:47.originally wrote the character as Nigel. Born in 1936, Sue achieved

:05:48. > :05:50.worldwide success following the publication of Adrian Mole books but

:05:51. > :05:54.she had suffered from ill hdalth for some time. She was left blind due to

:05:55. > :05:57.diabetes and died at home after a stroke. She was able to touch

:05:58. > :06:00.people's hearts through her storytelling because she was witty,

:06:01. > :06:03.funny and she represented rdal people. She was such a real person.

:06:04. > :06:06.Her honesty came across in her books, which have entertaindd,

:06:07. > :06:10.enchanted and inspired millhons of readers. She will go down in history

:06:11. > :06:23.as the South Wigston schoolgirl who gave Adrian Mole to the world.

:06:24. > :06:27.Newsnight's over on BBC Two now asking if the Pistorius tri`l makes

:06:28. > :06:31.TV cameras more or less likdly in British courts. Here though, that's

:06:32. > :06:39.your news, so goodbye for now from me. Here's Anna with your wdekend's

:06:40. > :06:42.weather. We have had a lovely spring day

:06:43. > :06:51.today and we expect more sunshine this weekend. It should be largely

:06:52. > :06:58.drive. Overnight tonight we have clear skies. Maybe some missed in

:06:59. > :07:10.sheltered spots `` mist. In rural spots it could be as low as to Max

:07:11. > :07:14.Celsius. `` two. Tomorrow wd will see some high clouds turning

:07:15. > :07:20.sunshine hazy and then some light patchy rain in the early afternoon.

:07:21. > :07:26.Still a good deal of dry we`ther on Saturday. A south`westerly breeze.

:07:27. > :07:32.Sunday looks like a dry day and we will probably see the best of

:07:33. > :07:33.sunshine then. Here's your outlook for

:07:34. > :07:39.UK, Alex Deakin has the National forecast for you. Good night.

:07:40. > :07:45.Good evening. This weekend should be a little brighter than last weekend.

:07:46. > :07:49.Most of us will see spells of sunshine. Across northern Britain as

:07:50. > :07:52.well as any sunshine there will be a brisk breeze developing some rain.

:07:53. > :07:57.In the south, generally it should stay dry with spells of sunshine. In

:07:58. > :08:01.the South at the moment we have largely clear skies. Hence another

:08:02. > :08:04.cold night. Further north, the wind is increasing and the cloud bringing

:08:05. > :08:09.persistent rain across western Scotland. The breeze, rain and cloud

:08:10. > :08:15.keeping it miles. In the south again, five - six, in towns and

:08:16. > :08:19.cities. In rural areas, not far off freezing. A chilly start to the

:08:20. > :08:23.weekend. Generally sunny across the south. It will cloud over through

:08:24. > :08:28.the day but we should hang on to sunny spells across East Anglia and

:08:29. > :08:29.the south-east. The sun has got some power in it, it will start
