:00:13. > :00:18.And now the news for the East Midlands, I'm Dominic Heale.

:00:19. > :00:21.The East Midlands has experienced a significant earthquake ` the

:00:22. > :00:25.strongest quake to hit the UK this year. There have been several

:00:26. > :00:29.tremors in the region in recent years. But this one ` with its

:00:30. > :00:37.epicentre in Rutland ` was among the biggest ` with a magnitude of 3.2.

:00:38. > :00:40.Sarah Teale reports. The peace and tranquillity of the

:00:41. > :00:45.Rutland and Leicestershire countryside was rocked just after

:00:46. > :00:51.7am. This was the cause, an earthquake measuring magnitude three

:00:52. > :00:58.point two. Rhian Ivory and her family said it sided like a lorry

:00:59. > :01:03.had crashed into the bungalow. `` sounded. It sounded like the war

:01:04. > :01:08.was shaking behind me. It was a sound and vibration as well. My

:01:09. > :01:14.eldest one thought it might have been a bomb. I heard sort of

:01:15. > :01:21.rumbling sound, and it shook my bed. The epicentre was at Oakham and

:01:22. > :01:25.originated 2.5 miles below ground. Many took to social media

:01:26. > :01:31.afterwards, including Austin Healey retweeted, we have just had an

:01:32. > :01:37.earthquake, the House was shaking for about ten seconds. Tremors were

:01:38. > :01:41.felt up to 20 miles away. It felt almost like an explosion, but

:01:42. > :01:46.without the sound, or something hitting the sound rather as Mac

:01:47. > :01:51.hating the House rather than like `` rather than rumbling or shaking. It

:01:52. > :01:54.was a strange sound, I knew it wasn't quite right because in a

:01:55. > :01:58.quiet location like this you do not hear that sort of thing.

:01:59. > :02:04.The last significant earthquake hit market raisin in 2008, with the

:02:05. > :02:06.magnitude of 5.2. That was felt across the East Midlands and caused

:02:07. > :02:12.damage to many houses. Earthquakes are not that uncommon in

:02:13. > :02:16.the UK. The British Geological Survey says it has reports of about

:02:17. > :02:21.three per year in this country, and it says it will be investigating the

:02:22. > :02:26.cause of this latest one. They occur as a result of the

:02:27. > :02:33.adjustment `` adjustments `` the adjustments that `` the adjustments

:02:34. > :02:39.to the wider stresses the UK feels. We experience unlike `` a slight

:02:40. > :02:43.squeezing as a result of the mid`Atlantic Ridge. There is no way

:02:44. > :02:47.of predicting when the earth will move for East Midlands as again. ``

:02:48. > :02:51.East Midlanders. Police searching for a soldier who

:02:52. > :02:56.went missing as he tried to swim across a river in York have found a

:02:57. > :02:58.body. 18`year`old Tyler Pearson from

:02:59. > :03:09.Nottingham was last seen in the River Ouse a fortnight ago.

:03:10. > :03:11.Signaller Pearson's family has been told of the discovery.

:03:12. > :03:14.A 47`year`old workman's being treated in hospital after falling

:03:15. > :03:17.from scaffolding in Derby. Members of the Health and Safety

:03:18. > :03:20.Executive have been at the scene near The Spot in the city centre.

:03:21. > :03:24.During the incident this morning, the man ` who's not yet been named `

:03:25. > :03:26.fell about 15 feet onto a wooden platform. He suffered multiple

:03:27. > :03:29.injuries. New research has identified a slump

:03:30. > :03:33.in the economic recovery of one East Midlands city. There's been a big

:03:34. > :03:36.increase in the number of businesses in Nottingham said to be in

:03:37. > :03:39."critical financial distress". As our political editor John Hess

:03:40. > :03:41.explained earlier, it's the construction industry that's really

:03:42. > :03:45.struggling. I think many viewers will think this

:03:46. > :03:50.is a bit of a turn up, because all the recent political rhetoric from

:03:51. > :03:54.the Prime Minister and the Chancellor has been about the

:03:55. > :03:56.economic revival, and yet only yesterday we were reporting an

:03:57. > :04:02.increase in unemployment in the East Midlands, and this survey which

:04:03. > :04:06.covers the first quarter of this year seems to indicate that

:04:07. > :04:10.Nottingham's economic recovery is spluttering as well, that is also

:04:11. > :04:16.against the trend. The problem seems to be in the city's construction

:04:17. > :04:19.sector, there has been a 16% increase in business is facing

:04:20. > :04:27.financial problems, four times higher than the rest of the

:04:28. > :04:33.Midlands. These figures come from a company whose business is to rescue

:04:34. > :04:37.firms which go bust. In the past, the East Midlands has been a better

:04:38. > :04:43.performer compared to the rest of the country. Any weakening in the

:04:44. > :04:48.position can be over exaggerated. As we sit at the moment, I am not

:04:49. > :04:51.seeing any particular worsening compare to everybody else, although

:04:52. > :04:55.all figures seem to show that construction has been a problem.

:04:56. > :04:59.Looking at it from the point of view of maybe being caused by bad

:05:00. > :05:06.weather, the bad weather's been bad around the country and may be worth

:05:07. > :05:09.down south. `` worse down south. Last summer there was that ringing

:05:10. > :05:14.endorsement from the new Governor of the Bank of England about the East

:05:15. > :05:21.Midlands economy, and its importance to the rest of the country. This is

:05:22. > :05:26.a real bellwether for the UK economy, and it is in regions such

:05:27. > :05:34.as this and industries such as those that will determine the course of

:05:35. > :05:39.this recovery. Tonight the business organisation that's responsible for

:05:40. > :05:43.economic regeneration, the local enterprise partnership, it accepts

:05:44. > :05:46.that growth isn't even, and says that inevitably there will be

:05:47. > :05:50.challenges to overcome. It has actually published a special plan to

:05:51. > :05:53.help the construction sector. Let us just hope it is waterproof.

:05:54. > :05:56.The funeral of the Leicester author Sue Townsend will take place at De

:05:57. > :06:00.Montfort Hall on May second. The creator of the teenage character

:06:01. > :06:04.Adrian Mole died aged 68 after a short illness. Relatives are asking

:06:05. > :06:07.for donations to be made to the Rainbows Children's Hospice in

:06:08. > :06:12.Loughborough, and the stroke wards at Leicester Royal Infirmary.

:06:13. > :06:17.The Peak District is to become the first national park in the UK ` and

:06:18. > :06:19.only the third in the world ` to have its trails viewable on the

:06:20. > :06:23.internet. Walkers will soon be able to see

:06:24. > :06:26.such sites as the Derwent Dams and the Monsal Head viaduct, along with

:06:27. > :06:29.some of the famous rock edges popular with climbers. The same

:06:30. > :06:30.technology was used recently to record an online tour of towpaths

:06:31. > :06:38.running along the region's canals. running along the region's

:06:39. > :06:42.That is your news, here's your weather forecast.

:06:43. > :06:47.It was such a cloudy day today, but we are now trying `` starting to see

:06:48. > :06:52.this skies clearing, and we are in for another cold night. The

:06:53. > :07:00.temperatures dropping to a minimum of around three or four Celsius in

:07:01. > :07:05.the towns and cities. At least a bright start to the day once again,

:07:06. > :07:10.and it is going to be a fine day for Good Friday. A little bit of cloud

:07:11. > :07:14.coming in from the North Sea, and it is a north`easterly breeze. A

:07:15. > :07:20.maximum daytime temperature of 12 Celsius. A decent day in store for

:07:21. > :07:25.Saturday as well. If you have any plans out doors, Good Friday and

:07:26. > :07:27.Saturday over two days to go for. Although Saturday, a little bit more

:07:28. > :07:34.cloud around. itself across southern England, so

:07:35. > :07:41.we will see wet weather over England. Have a good Easter.

:07:42. > :07:46.One thing we can be sure about is it won't be as cold as Easter last

:07:47. > :07:51.year, when we had seems like this, a covering of snow with icicles and

:07:52. > :07:54.temperatures down to an Easter record of minus 12.5 Celsius. One

:07:55. > :07:58.year and a couple of weeks on, things look very different. The

:07:59. > :08:03.first half of the Easter weekend, a lot of dry weather and a lot of warm

:08:04. > :08:06.and strong sunshine as well. It is the second half of the Easter

:08:07. > :08:17.weekend when things turn more unsettled, with some rain around. A

:08:18. > :08:18.few showers today
