:00:15. > :00:21.And now the news for the East Midlands, I'm Maurice Flynn. There's

:00:22. > :00:25.division tonight over a campaign to stop young men travelling to Syria

:00:26. > :00:29.to fight in the civil war. Police are urging Muslim men to st`y away.

:00:30. > :00:32.They're concerned those voltnteering may end up being radicalised. But a

:00:33. > :00:35.Leicester MP who deals with terrorist policing says he doesn't

:00:36. > :00:45.think the campaign will work. Our Social Affairs Correspondent, Jeremy

:00:46. > :00:53.Ball, reports. Maybe we can prevent many casualties. And appeal to move

:00:54. > :00:59.to use their powers of perstasion to stop Muslim men from joining a civil

:01:00. > :01:05.war happening thousands of liles away. Youngsters are going out

:01:06. > :01:14.there, lots of Britons are being killed and injured. Going there to

:01:15. > :01:19.fight is not an option, it hs just going to add to the problems there

:01:20. > :01:26.rather than making anything better. The brutal conflict has alrdady cost

:01:27. > :01:35.thousands of lives. Many fedl they are under a religious or moral

:01:36. > :01:40.obligation to fight. Today, the police asked for help and thp`offs

:01:41. > :01:50.about people who might want to travel to Syria for the war. One MP

:01:51. > :01:54.says this strategy will not work. Families do not know it is

:01:55. > :02:01.happening, the people you nded to go to our peer groups and soci`l media.

:02:02. > :02:09.But the campaign has been stpported by two Muslim charities who are

:02:10. > :02:17.sending vital aid to Syria. The say that is the most effective way to

:02:18. > :02:22.help in the Civil War. Sometimes people can get misused without

:02:23. > :02:26.knowing. There are many othdr ways to help. It is about spreadhng the

:02:27. > :02:30.message through whole communities using people power and they are

:02:31. > :02:35.hoping it can save lives. Phctures of the blaze in which a mother and

:02:36. > :02:39.her three children died havd been shown to a murder jury. Thex were

:02:40. > :02:43.told it was started deliber`tely by a gang of men trying to avenge the

:02:44. > :02:49.death of their friend but that they targeted the wrong house. S`rah

:02:50. > :02:55.Teale reports. The house in Leicester was set alight in the

:02:56. > :03:02.early hours of September 13 last year. The mum and her three teenaged

:03:03. > :03:08.children all died. Their father and husband, a doctor who was in Dublin

:03:09. > :03:15.at the time, sat in court w`tching the CCTV being played to thd Judy

:03:16. > :03:21.today. The footage first shows two cars driving past the house with

:03:22. > :03:26.their headlights switched off. The vehicles parked around the corner

:03:27. > :03:31.and eight figures walk back towards the house. Then flames can clearly

:03:32. > :03:38.be seen flickering at the f`mily home as the fire takes hold. The

:03:39. > :03:43.figures are then spotted running from the scene. The prosecutor

:03:44. > :03:49.described how a neighbour hdard panicking noises coming frol the

:03:50. > :03:55.house, crying noises and calls for help. It is alleged seven mdn and a

:03:56. > :03:59.youth were responsible. It was revenge for the murder of a

:04:00. > :04:05.20`year`old who had been st`bbed nearby but the gang had targeted the

:04:06. > :04:11.wrong house. The Julie was then shown CCTV captured after the fire

:04:12. > :04:18.of a man who had got out of the car, taken something from the boot,

:04:19. > :04:25.and disposed of it in a hedge. Forensic teams later found ` petrol

:04:26. > :04:30.can. DNA from another defendant was found on a red cigarette lighter

:04:31. > :04:37.which pleas officers discovdred in rubble outside the house. The men

:04:38. > :04:52.charge all counts `` deny all kinds of marker and the trial continues.

:04:53. > :04:57.`` deny all counts of murder. Now in a month's time we'll get thd chance

:04:58. > :05:00.to vote for the five MEPs who will represent the East Midlands in the

:05:01. > :05:03.European Parliament. Nine p`rty s are standing and if you think it's

:05:04. > :05:06.not important then just consider that these people oversee the EU's

:05:07. > :05:10.annual budget of ?720 billion. Here's our Political Editor, John

:05:11. > :05:14.Hess. It is hard to believe this cafe is in the heart of Leicester.

:05:15. > :05:23.Its owner came to Leicester from Turkey. While he laughs Brussels he

:05:24. > :05:31.is Eurosceptic. In contrast, his assistant wants others to elbrace

:05:32. > :05:37.the EU. If it could just get nicer, friendlier, more together again I

:05:38. > :05:42.Cannes so what will these elections be about? Jobs, migration, the

:05:43. > :05:52.environment and even our melbership of the EU itself. How many buyers

:05:53. > :05:57.will take any notice? I feel that Brussels rules loves but I do not

:05:58. > :06:05.think we can make a difference by voting. We want to come out of the

:06:06. > :06:17.EU. Now, we don't, because then we will lose out of the import /export

:06:18. > :06:32.business. The region's MEPs are these people. The system of voting

:06:33. > :06:38.is different. If more than one third of ours actually vote that will be

:06:39. > :06:44.regarded as a success. We are back with the lunchtime update tomorrow

:06:45. > :06:49.now the weather. We have had a pleasant spring day today btt it is

:06:50. > :06:56.all change for tomorrow as rain is set to arrive from the south. We

:06:57. > :07:01.have clear skies for most at the moment and any showers will die out.

:07:02. > :07:08.Cloud will roll in from the North Sea. The cloud will hold

:07:09. > :07:15.temperatures up. A cloudy and misty start to Friday but starting dry,

:07:16. > :07:21.some brightness through the morning. We will push in from the Sotth

:07:22. > :07:25.during the afternoon and thd rain will become intense as the `fternoon

:07:26. > :07:31.progresses then there is thd potential of Thunder late afternoon

:07:32. > :07:32.and into the evening. Now the outlook and after

:07:33. > :07:38.weekend, you can see what is going on. Sunday might be brighter. Now

:07:39. > :07:42.over to Louise Lear for the national weather.

:07:43. > :07:45.Good evening. Today has been a day of sunny spells and a few scattered

:07:46. > :07:49.showers, but where we see the sunshine, we have also seen some

:07:50. > :07:53.warmth, with temperatures in the high teens. A slightly disappointing

:07:54. > :08:01.story across the far north-east of Scotland. We keep that easterly feed

:08:02. > :08:04.through the night to night, but looking out into the Atlantic, we

:08:05. > :08:07.also start to pick up the south-westerly circulate in, and

:08:08. > :08:13.area of low pressure bringing in some blustery winds for the start of

:08:14. > :08:20.the weekend. Tonight it stays mostly dry, with some fog around. And we

:08:21. > :08:26.pick up the risk of a few showers in the far south-east. Clearer skies at

:08:27. > :08:31.the the South West, and cloudy, murky start our day tomorrow the

:08:32. > :08:32.showers gather in strength and then start to march north and
