:00:13. > :00:17.And now the news for the East Midlands. I'm Dominic Heale. Good
:00:18. > :00:20.evening. First tonight, social services bosses are to give a
:00:21. > :00:25.failing care home more time to improve after meeting residents'
:00:26. > :00:31.families. They haven't paid for new people to go there since December
:00:32. > :00:34.after serious concerns were raised. And problems were still evident at
:00:35. > :00:37.the Eton Park Care Centre at Cotgrave in Nottinghamshire during
:00:38. > :00:47.the latest inspection by the Care Quality Commission. Our health
:00:48. > :00:53.correspondent Rob Sissons reports. This is her in the war. To either so
:00:54. > :01:00.she has always been close to her aunt. She says she was doing much
:01:01. > :01:07.better before going into care. She picked the home Eton Park Care
:01:08. > :01:13.Centre in a rush and soon regretted it. Not happy about the room, the
:01:14. > :01:18.cleanliness. She got so depressed she would not get out of bed and
:01:19. > :01:25.they had to bring her ray commode. It did not get emptied regularly
:01:26. > :01:30.enough. It's not. `` they brought her a commode. A lot of failures
:01:31. > :01:36.were found by the CQC. Residents did not get enough nutrition and were
:01:37. > :01:40.not always protected from the risk of abuse. The home said it was
:01:41. > :01:46.continuing to make improvements and has invested half ?1 million
:01:47. > :01:50.recently. Many of the problems have been caused by management and staff
:01:51. > :01:54.issues and they have now been fully addressed. We are continuing to work
:01:55. > :01:59.hand`in`hand with the Care Quality Commission and the council to
:02:00. > :02:06.improve the facility. Irene is now in hospital. Her niece does not want
:02:07. > :02:11.her back in a care home. This is her room. She lived with us for six
:02:12. > :02:17.months. This is her ensuite. You want her to come back as you might I
:02:18. > :02:22.do. Where she is going to be loved and cared for. `` you definitely
:02:23. > :02:28.want her to come back? The council is giving the home more time to sort
:02:29. > :02:34.things out. A meeting was called to night to try to reassure residents
:02:35. > :02:37.that the council and the CQC is on the home's case. They have been
:02:38. > :02:41.given more time to put things right. The authority says they have
:02:42. > :02:46.seen improvements already but the challenge will be sustaining them.
:02:47. > :02:50.The family of a Nottingham soldier killed on a training exercise have
:02:51. > :02:51.described him as an amazing son, brother, boyfriend and expectant
:02:52. > :02:55.father. 20`year`old Cameron Laing was hit by
:02:56. > :03:04.a trailer which was part of a convoy heading towards Dartmoor. He
:03:05. > :03:07.suffered head and chest injuries. He was serving with a Royal Logistic
:03:08. > :03:08.Corps regiment based in Rutland. Police are still investigating what
:03:09. > :03:12.happened. The mother of Madeleine McCann is
:03:13. > :03:14.supporting a new campaign to help find missing children. Kate McCann
:03:15. > :03:18.from Rothley has been publicising the child rescue alert system which
:03:19. > :03:22.is already used in parts of America and Europe. It comes as the McCanns
:03:23. > :03:24.approach the seventh anniversary of the disappearance of their
:03:25. > :03:29.three`year`old daughter from a holiday resort in Portugal.
:03:30. > :03:32.The UKIP leader Nigel Farage called off a planned walkabout in
:03:33. > :03:39.Nottingham this lunchtime after a protestor hit him with an egg. His
:03:40. > :03:42.visit came a day after he refused to stand in the forthcoming by`
:03:43. > :03:48.election at Newark which it's been announced will take place on fifth
:03:49. > :04:08.June. Our political editor John Hess can tell us more. It is the moment
:04:09. > :04:15.every politician drags. `` dreamt. They are redundant. A lot of people
:04:16. > :04:19.have been hoodwinked into thinking they agree with their policies when
:04:20. > :04:29.they do not. Inside this pub, Nigel Farage brushed up. The worry is it
:04:30. > :04:33.is preventing normal democracy. On the day the Newark by`election was
:04:34. > :04:38.confirmed, no regrets about not standing. In the Commons, the
:04:39. > :04:45.government's Chief Whip officially tells MPs Patrick Mercer is no
:04:46. > :04:48.longer the MP for Newark. The speaker formally kick`starts the
:04:49. > :04:54.by`election campaign. The county constituency of Newark... Polling
:04:55. > :04:59.day, Thursday, the 5th of June. The disgrace of the former MP was
:05:00. > :05:02.revealed today in the committee report that investigated his
:05:03. > :05:07.conduct. He had said he deliberately evaded Commons rules on registering
:05:08. > :05:10.money received for consultancy services. The investigation also
:05:11. > :05:14.condemned him for repeatedly denigrating fellow MPs and using
:05:15. > :05:21.racially offensive language. He had also brought the house into
:05:22. > :05:24.disrepute by involving other MPs. That was because he set up an
:05:25. > :05:30.all`party parliamentary group on behalf of a paying client being
:05:31. > :05:33.represented unknown to him by undercover reporters. Back in
:05:34. > :05:37.Nottingham, this was the closest Nigel Farage came to the Newark
:05:38. > :05:40.constituency. One of the reasons he gave for not standing was that he
:05:41. > :05:45.did not know the East Midlands particular well. He will certainly
:05:46. > :05:51.remember his visit to Nottingham now. That is certainly true! I have
:05:52. > :05:54.only been to Newark once. It was supposed to be a campaign visit for
:05:55. > :06:02.the European elections, but Newark and an egg derailed all of that.
:06:03. > :06:05.Finally, if you're on the road early tomorrow for the morning commute,
:06:06. > :06:08.good luck. It turns out the East Midlands is one of the worst places
:06:09. > :06:11.in Britain for roadworks. According to a new survey, Leicestershire's
:06:12. > :06:15.got the second highest number in the country with more than 1,200 road
:06:16. > :06:18.improvement schemes on the go. Derby was third with 930 and Nottingham
:06:19. > :06:20.fifth with almost 600. 91 UK councils provided information, with
:06:21. > :06:26.unfinished projects now totalling around 10,000.
:06:27. > :06:38.That seems a lot. Now your weather. You may have been caught out in one
:06:39. > :06:43.of the showers today. You will be pleased to hear it looks like
:06:44. > :06:48.tomorrow will be largely dry, as will the bank holiday weekend.
:06:49. > :06:53.Tomorrow feeling colder. Showers dying out tonight. Largely dry
:06:54. > :06:59.throughout the night. A lot of cloud staying with us. The cloud could be
:07:00. > :07:08.thick enough for like terrain. A little bit cooler tonight. `` light
:07:09. > :07:13.rain. We are hopeful in the morning that the rain will sink to the south
:07:14. > :07:17.and behind it it is drier and brighter in the afternoon with long
:07:18. > :07:21.spells of sunshine. However, with the north`easterly breeze, it is
:07:22. > :07:24.feeling colder. Much fresher with a high of just 11 degrees. High
:07:25. > :07:29.pressure is in charge Saturday and for the rest of the bank holiday
:07:30. > :07:31.weekend. Not looking too bad. Here is your outlook for the next
:07:32. > :07:40.on that at the moment, that there will be some sunshine around. More
:07:41. > :07:45.on that in the national forecast. Our weather is taking a turn for the
:07:46. > :07:50.colder. You would be forgiven for thinking that does not bode well for
:07:51. > :07:53.the Bank Holiday Weekend. But as we go through the weekend, temperatures
:07:54. > :07:57.will be performing a U-turn, and recovering, as we will see. England
:07:58. > :07:58.and Wales has borne the brunt of some heavy
