:01:02. > :01:05.hundreds of people have attdnded the funeral of Flight Lieutenant

:01:06. > :01:11.The 29`year`old serviceman died in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan

:01:12. > :01:16.Earlier in the day, part of Leicester came to a

:01:17. > :01:23.Shops shut and crowds lined the streets to pay their respects.

:01:24. > :01:27.Victoria Hicks has the first of two special reports on how a colmunity

:01:28. > :01:48.Hundreds lined the streets, from the young to the old. They came together

:01:49. > :01:52.to remember Rakesh. They were very sad to hear the news but on the

:01:53. > :01:57.other side he died as a hero and served his country. At this young

:01:58. > :02:01.age, he has sacrificed his life for Great Britain and the community and

:02:02. > :02:06.humanity and I think this is the highest honour we can give him today

:02:07. > :02:13.for his last journey and so he can rest in peace. He did fantastically

:02:14. > :02:17.for the country and we are so proud of what he has done. Flanking the

:02:18. > :02:23.hearse, six friends, as the 29`year`old made his last journey

:02:24. > :02:27.along Belgrade's Golden mild. Most of the shops closed. An

:02:28. > :02:29.unprecedented display of respect for a family that has lost so much.

:03:31. > :03:39.As the cortege arrived, his mum kissed her son's coffin

:03:40. > :03:42.During the short service, Rakesh's father paid tributd to him,

:03:43. > :03:46.telling the congregation, we are indebted to you and the

:03:47. > :03:51.The chaplain, who had known him since he was 11,

:03:52. > :03:55.said that Rakesh wanted to lake a difference in the world and

:03:56. > :04:04.After the service, there was a fly`past by an RAF Hawk.

:04:05. > :04:09.Rakesh's cousins paid tribute to him.

:04:10. > :04:13.He's a hero and we are really, really proud of him.

:04:14. > :04:18.Sad but very happy that he lived for the 29 years that he did live to

:04:19. > :04:29.I was in Afghanistan a week before the accident.

:04:30. > :04:32.I saw how professional he w`s, saw how highly he was regarded

:04:33. > :04:36.by the crews that he worked with, and it is a huge loss for us all.

:04:37. > :04:39.The funeral service was by his school chaplain at his request.

:04:40. > :04:44.He felt that it was up to him to step up and do the job that he

:04:45. > :04:48.He felt it made a real difference to the world that

:04:49. > :04:52.he was doing a good thing and he was doing it with all his heart.

:04:53. > :04:55.For those here today, Rakesh will always be remembered

:04:56. > :04:58.as a man with a big heart who was selfless and kind.

:04:59. > :05:07.A man who everyone is proud to have known.

:05:30. > :05:33.in a house fire has admitted lying throughout police interviews.

:05:34. > :05:36.The botched arson attack in Leicester claimed the lives of a

:05:37. > :05:41.Today, Nathaniel Mullings s`id it was stupid

:05:42. > :05:47.But he didn't start the blaze and didn't even know it was going

:05:48. > :05:54.Sarah Teale has been at Nottingham Crown Court.

:05:55. > :05:57.Well, it started theatrically, with defence barrister

:05:58. > :06:00.Dexter Dias QC calling his client to the witness box with the words, "Mr

:06:01. > :06:06.He then asked the 19`year`old whether had he told the truth to

:06:07. > :06:10.police in two days of interviews over the arson attack on the

:06:11. > :06:16.Mullings replied, "I told numerous lies through police intervidws

:06:17. > :06:21.and it was a cowardly and stupid thing to do but I in these certain

:06:22. > :06:27.Mr Dias then asked him whether he had known about plans to

:06:28. > :06:31.firebomb the house in which Shehnila Taufiq and her three childrdn died.

:06:32. > :06:35.He said, "No, I didn't know but I did know there was a plan to smash

:06:36. > :06:39.The jury had heard the gang had meant to target

:06:40. > :06:42.the family home of a man who they believed had been involved

:06:43. > :06:46.in the stabbing of their friend Antoin Akpom earlier in the evening

:06:47. > :06:51.And the court had been shown some CCTV

:06:52. > :06:58.Mullings was asked who it was caught on camera.

:06:59. > :07:04.He was asked whether that petrol can had anything to do with the fire.

:07:05. > :07:09.It had been in his boot for several days as a precaution.

:07:10. > :07:11.He was asked why he'd disposed of it.

:07:12. > :07:15.He said he was in shock after the firebomb attack and added,

:07:16. > :07:18."I was scared and I didn't want to be caught with anything on le".

:07:19. > :07:20.He also admitted disposing of a phone

:07:21. > :07:24.because he'd made numerous contacts with some of his co`defendants.

:07:25. > :07:28.He said when police asked hhm about it all, he was in a desperately

:07:29. > :07:34.cowardly state and didn't want to admit to anything that night.

:07:35. > :07:37.And he admitted to the jury he had previous convictions?

:07:38. > :07:42.In March 2009, he pleaded gtilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm.

:07:43. > :07:46.He was 14 at the time and it was a fight at school.

:07:49. > :07:55.Eight defendants face murder charges which they all deny.
