:00:00. > :00:08.This is East Midlands Today with Anne Davies and me, Dominic Heale.
:00:09. > :00:15.Tonight ` Labour celebrate victory in one of our of key election battle
:00:16. > :00:21.grounds. After 14 years, Labour have ousted
:00:22. > :00:31.the Conservatives out of control in Amber Valley. APPLAUSE
:00:32. > :00:36.. Also tonight, the whole that the High Court rules that King Richard
:00:37. > :00:40.III remained. In Leicester. They will be at the heart of our
:00:41. > :00:47.city and the heart but muted. Captured on a camera phone, a secret
:00:48. > :00:52.visit to Nottingham by Prince Harry. In sports, it's the big match... ,
:00:53. > :01:04.this is Wembley and it's waiting for Derby County. Good evening and
:01:05. > :01:08.welcome to the programme. In the East Midlands, Labour triumph in the
:01:09. > :01:12.local elections. But their celebrations are muted ` because of
:01:13. > :01:15.the impact made by UKIP. Amber Valley swung from Conservative to
:01:16. > :01:22.Labour control for first time in 14 years, with the Tory leader blaming
:01:23. > :01:27.what he called UKIP "interference". And in Derby, while Labour still
:01:28. > :01:29.runs the city, UKIP won two seats. In North Nottinghamshire, Labour
:01:30. > :01:34.kept control of Bassetlaw, and gained a seat from the
:01:35. > :01:42.Conservatives. For more detail on this let's join our Political Editor
:01:43. > :01:52.John Hess, who's in Amber Valley. Good evening. Let's have a look at
:01:53. > :01:56.those results. Labour lost to seek to UKIP that gained two others The
:01:57. > :01:59.Lib dems also lost two seats including that of Amjit Atwal ` the
:02:00. > :02:13.councillor controversially pictured with an AK47 assault rifle. Hardly
:02:14. > :02:18.any change in Bassetlaw. It is the Labour`controlled. It's all change
:02:19. > :02:27.in labour in `` Amber Valley. Those figures do not tell the whole story
:02:28. > :02:30.and the impact of the union. In top voice, jubilant Labour
:02:31. > :02:37.supporters singing the Redcap micro flag. Labour secured the two seats
:02:38. > :02:39.it needed to gain control from the Conservative who had run the double
:02:40. > :02:43.ship Borough Council for more than 14 years.
:02:44. > :02:49.We have been trying for years to get it back for stop no big breakthrough
:02:50. > :02:53.for UKIP, yet the Conservatives claimed their loss on them.
:02:54. > :03:01.It not what we might call a straight fight. It was not on an even playing
:03:02. > :03:06.fight `` this field because of UKIP. The slender majority in this battle
:03:07. > :03:13.ground seems particularly vulnerable. We will have to do what
:03:14. > :03:18.we can to make it the same next year. Local and European elections
:03:19. > :03:23.are not a good guide for general elections. The Liberal Democrats,
:03:24. > :03:28.this is an election they will want to forget. Labour can feel
:03:29. > :03:33.victorious but more in relief. It was a very lengthy night with
:03:34. > :03:40.many delays. They did eventually get a result. Not an awful lot has
:03:41. > :03:45.changed. However, UKIP has made a significant breakthrough, two seats
:03:46. > :03:50.taken from Labour councillors. Obviously, they will be some
:03:51. > :03:55.analysis of figures. UKIP took a seat from Labour, the Conservatives
:03:56. > :03:59.and Liberals. Around the country, they said we just take seat from the
:04:00. > :04:05.Conservative, but tonight we won Labour seats. There is no doubt we
:04:06. > :04:11.have a lot to do in the city. Lots to implement. We will do. We will
:04:12. > :04:16.hit the General Election Trail for the 17th of May next year. Although
:04:17. > :04:21.the leadership of Derby will not change much, there is plenty of food
:04:22. > :04:28.for thought for all the car `` parties for how well UKIP might do
:04:29. > :04:36.in the General Election next year. How significant are the labour and
:04:37. > :04:42.UKIP gains today? This is Amber Valley's council town
:04:43. > :04:47.hall in Ripley. Tonight, the first time in 14 years it is now run by
:04:48. > :04:51.the Labour Party. Winning those two crucial seat off the Conservatives
:04:52. > :04:56.would the minimum that Labour had to do. There will be those locally and
:04:57. > :05:00.nationally that will think that with a year to go into the General
:05:01. > :05:06.Election, Ed Miliband 's party should be pulling much better. That
:05:07. > :05:10.is the UKIP effect. Although the turnout was barely 35%, it has not
:05:11. > :05:15.made the seeping games that certainly some of Nigel Farage's
:05:16. > :05:19.supporters was hoping it would do. Certainly, the impact is there and
:05:20. > :05:25.we will await the outcome of the Euro elections on Sunday night.
:05:26. > :05:31.Whatever the outcome, and also of the Newark by`election, certainly
:05:32. > :05:38.the other parties have got some worries.
:05:39. > :05:42.It has been a long battle fought over 18 who famously died in battle.
:05:43. > :05:46.Today came a ruling that means which the third will stay in Leicester.
:05:47. > :05:50.The High Court decided that the license granted to the city to
:05:51. > :05:56.reinterpret the remains found in the car park is lawful. A group of
:05:57. > :06:02.dissident relatives had called free book to be his final resting place.
:06:03. > :06:06.Leicester relative that they are delighted and plans for a ceremony
:06:07. > :06:12.are underway. In the place where Richard III will
:06:13. > :06:17.be laid to rest, Leicester finally made the announcement it had longed
:06:18. > :06:25.for. If you haven't heard, the result is that the judgement.
:06:26. > :06:29.The justice secretary did not have a duty to consult before issuing the
:06:30. > :06:32.license to the University of Leicester, authorising his choice of
:06:33. > :06:38.the cathedral for the re`interment. For the man who led the search for
:06:39. > :06:43.the remains, it was vindication. I am extremely relieved. It's
:06:44. > :06:47.finally over. We can move on and the cathedral can put into effect
:06:48. > :06:50.planned to be very rigid with great dignity and honour. Very pleased

:07:56. > :07:59.watching and will be work centred. No doubt, the Royal family will want
:08:00. > :08:02.to be when presented. It would be an event that the people of Leicester
