:00:00. > :00:08.European election results. That's all from the BBC News at Six -

:00:09. > :00:11.This is East Midlands Today with Geeta Pendse and me, Dominic Heale.

:00:12. > :00:14.Tonight, a terrified sex abuse victim is told that her attacker's

:00:15. > :00:32.Keith Williams Keith Williams was given five life sentences.

:00:33. > :00:36.Also tonight: Nottingham police offer $1 million for Malachi's

:00:37. > :00:41.murderer. An exclusive report. Plus the

:00:42. > :00:46.multi`million pound make over of Nottingham Castle but can it really

:00:47. > :00:50.become a world`class tourist attraction?

:00:51. > :00:53.And how the letters of a Nottinghamshire soldier written

:00:54. > :01:07.during World War I and have inspired a playwright 100 years later.

:01:08. > :01:15.First tonight, a woman who was abused by the same man over

:01:16. > :01:19.an eight year period says she's now living in fear all over again.

:01:20. > :01:22.Keith Williams, who was given five life sentences at Derby Crown Court,

:01:23. > :01:25.has just been told he's eligible to be released from prison.

:01:26. > :01:28.His victim says the people who took that decision should be held

:01:29. > :01:44.The local paper called him a beast when he was jailed 15 years ago. It

:01:45. > :01:51.is a description of Keith Williams at one of his victims agrees with.

:01:52. > :01:58.This is a monster. It's not a man. He is not just a paedophile. He is a

:01:59. > :02:03.rapist. He is violent. He is evil. He is just a monster. During his

:02:04. > :02:08.sentence, he managed to get threatening messages to Joe. He will

:02:09. > :02:13.say things like, tell her I'm working out at the gym, as if to say

:02:14. > :02:18.that I'm getting stronger. Tell her I'm coming. Tell her this isn't

:02:19. > :02:23.over. But today, the authorities confirmed he has been ruled eligible

:02:24. > :02:27.for parole. They say a robust risk management plan will be in place and

:02:28. > :02:33.he should be released within the next two weeks. The abuse took place

:02:34. > :02:37.over several years at a pub here on the edge of Swadlincote in South

:02:38. > :02:41.Derbyshire. It has since been demolished and since Williams was

:02:42. > :02:46.convicted, Joe has been trying to rebuild her life. But she says

:02:47. > :02:51.knowing that he is now eligible for release has made her fearful of the

:02:52. > :02:56.future. He will not be able to contact Joe or even enter an

:02:57. > :03:01.exclusion zone of about 20 miles around Swadlincote. But that hasn't

:03:02. > :03:05.put her mind at rest. You are not talking about a law`abiding citizen.

:03:06. > :03:11.You are talking about a monster, who lives by his own rules and believes

:03:12. > :03:15.in his own lies. People need to be aware so they can stay vigilant and

:03:16. > :03:20.stay safe because this man is very dangerous and whoever is responsible

:03:21. > :03:24.for releasing him, well, they will be accountable when he re`offence.

:03:25. > :03:30.The parole board says it only releases visitors ` chav... That is

:03:31. > :03:37.not a view shared by Jo. East Midlands Today can reveal that

:03:38. > :03:39.detectives investigating a fatal shooting in Nottingham,

:03:40. > :03:42.are going to offer They're looking for a fugitive who's

:03:43. > :03:47.suspected of murdering the teenager, Lo`Andre Palmer was named

:03:48. > :04:12.in court as a member of the gang that killed

:04:13. > :04:22.him. This exclusive report from our Two years on, one of the suspects

:04:23. > :04:28.are still hasn't been caught. That suspect is a man who grew up and

:04:29. > :04:32.went to school in Nottingham. The police believe he is now in hiding

:04:33. > :04:38.in Kingston, Jamaica. It is the country where he was born. Now,

:04:39. > :04:43.detectives are offering a reward of 1 million Jamaican dollars, more

:04:44. > :04:49.than ?5,000 for information leading to his arrest. This is a murder of a

:04:50. > :04:53.young man that was assassinated in a car park. It is really important

:04:54. > :04:59.that, for the benefit of people in Nottingham, but specifically

:05:00. > :05:03.McKenzie's family, we will bring everyone to justice if we possibly

:05:04. > :05:06.can. Police in Jamaica have already tried to find the man in response to

:05:07. > :05:11.an international arrest warrant. Detectives he believed he was part

:05:12. > :05:16.of a gang that killed McKenzie. His friend has already been found guilty

:05:17. > :05:23.of firing a gun. He will serve at least 34 years in jail. You simply

:05:24. > :05:27.cannot support and help people who are taking guns on to the streets of

:05:28. > :05:37.Nottingham and shooting people. They are shooting people dead. We feel

:05:38. > :05:45.that Palmer has questions to answer in the court and a jury will decide.

:05:46. > :05:48.The reward for his arrest is a substantial of ` sum of money in

:05:49. > :05:55.Jamaica, a real incentive for someone to turn in him.

:05:56. > :05:58.The Police and Crime Commissioner for Leicestershire and Rutland has

:05:59. > :06:00.lost a High Court battle against a Leicestershire council.

:06:01. > :06:06.Sir Clive Loader took legal action over proposals to build four

:06:07. > :06:09.4,000 new homes in Lubbesthorpe, claiming there wasn't enough money

:06:10. > :06:13.Today, the High Court ruled in favour of Blaby District Council.

:06:14. > :06:18.The authority will now be able to start the work on the development.

:06:19. > :06:21.A skin cancer charity says that almost a thousand pounds has been

:06:22. > :06:24.raised so far following Derby County and Burton Albion's matches

:06:25. > :06:29.Fans applauded for one minute during both games,

:06:30. > :06:34.in support of the BBC Radio Derby presenter, Colin Bloomfield.

:06:35. > :06:40.He's being treated for stage four melanoma.

:06:41. > :06:43.An accident and the discovery of a rare protected species caused

:06:44. > :06:46.major disruption today on one of the busiest routes in Derbyshire.

:06:47. > :06:50.The A38 was closed for several hours this afternoon, after a van collided

:06:51. > :06:53.with other vehicles on the southbound carriageway at Coxbench.

:06:54. > :06:59.Meanwhile, White Claw crayfish have been found in a brook

:07:00. > :07:14.They'll have to be removed before improvement works can be finished.

:07:15. > :07:17.Still to come, could Nottingham become the king of the castles?

:07:18. > :07:19.Many tourists find the existing Castle distinctly under`whelming.

:07:20. > :07:28.Now, though, money's on offer for a major transformation.

:07:29. > :07:31.Next tonight, what will the result of the European elections mean

:07:32. > :07:37.That's the question on the minds of party managers tonight as they plan

:07:38. > :07:40.their campaigns for the crucial Newark parliamentary by`election.

:07:41. > :07:43.Tonight, the candidates from the main parties are going

:07:44. > :07:47.head`to`head in their first election debate since UKIP's Euro victory.

:07:48. > :07:56.Let's join our Political Editor John Hess, who in Newark.

:07:57. > :08:04.Good evening. In an era of spin doctors and targeted texts and sound

:08:05. > :08:09.bites, it is good to know there is still scope for the traditional

:08:10. > :08:14.hustings. It's a public meeting at which the public can throw questions

:08:15. > :08:21.at the candidates who aspired to become the next MP. Tonight, we are

:08:22. > :08:24.at Arsenal academy school and the candidates of all the main parties

:08:25. > :08:28.are there and soaring questions from members of the audience. It has been

:08:29. > :08:31.organised by the local business community and for the candidates, my

:08:32. > :08:39.goodness, they need to think on their feet. How do you do? You need

:08:40. > :08:48.plenty of stamina in politics and raw just ` Roger was again on the

:08:49. > :08:56.election trail today. He wants to be the next Westminster MP for new work

:08:57. > :09:02.and was campaigning today. Is this Nottinghamshire constituency right

:09:03. > :09:05.for him? Nigel Farage is due in a constituency later this week and has

:09:06. > :09:16.been anxious to get briefing from some of his Euro candidates. The

:09:17. > :09:25.seven bit is in Rushcliffe, is it? It is. Defending a 16,000

:09:26. > :09:33.Conservative majority, today, Robert was joined by Alan Duncan and Mark

:09:34. > :09:41.Spencer. They were leafleting and canvassing in Bingham. And here is

:09:42. > :09:45.why the Conservatives are nervous about this by`election. In the

:09:46. > :09:50.European election results for the new account she with council area,

:09:51. > :09:56.UKIP polls just over 10,000 votes had the and Labour. UKIP have a

:09:57. > :10:01.majority of 386 over the Tories. Could that result be repeated a week

:10:02. > :10:04.on Thursday? After UKIP's Euro success, there is something of a

:10:05. > :10:08.purple haze over the East Midlands. When it's left by the time the

:10:09. > :10:16.photos in the constituency turn back to the polls?

:10:17. > :10:18.Chris, the Chambers has been one of the organisations behind the

:10:19. > :10:25.hustings this evening but what questions other public asking? Local

:10:26. > :10:31.issues, the local hospital, the railway but also some bigger issues

:10:32. > :10:38.like energy policy, the local Polish community. Why is it important that

:10:39. > :10:43.this type of event still takes place? It's good for people to come

:10:44. > :10:54.along and hear straight from the horses mouth and get cancers. It's

:10:55. > :10:58.important. ` get answers. This hustings is going on until eight

:10:59. > :11:04.o'clock this evening. Why not pop down?

:11:05. > :11:17.In the interests of fairness, here is the full list of candidates.

:11:18. > :11:21.A defendant in a murder trial has admitted helping to move a body.

:11:22. > :11:24.But he says he knows nothing of how the man died.

:11:25. > :11:26.Barry Smith was fatally attacked outside the Kilburn welfare club

:11:27. > :11:31.Vincent Aitken, the club's former steward,

:11:32. > :11:36.has told a court he didn't witness the assault, nor does he know who

:11:37. > :11:47.At Leicester Crown Court, four people are on trial for what

:11:48. > :11:52.occurred in October last year outside this welfare club, where a

:11:53. > :11:56.48`year`old father of four was allegedly beaten to death and his

:11:57. > :11:59.body satellites nearby. It is claimed Vincent Aitken, his daughter

:12:00. > :12:05.and her partner were involved in the murder and Vincent's wife Pamela is

:12:06. > :12:08.accused of assisting an offender. Prosecution said Pamela and Barry

:12:09. > :12:13.had an argument which resulted in Pamela losing her job and Mr Smith

:12:14. > :12:17.was attacked in revenge. Last week, Nathan Dougherty claimed Vincent

:12:18. > :12:22.Aitken had attacked Barry Smith and that he, Dougherty, had only helped

:12:23. > :12:26.him move the body and later burnt Vincent's clothes. But today,

:12:27. > :12:30.Vincent said he had found Nathan Doty standing Barry Smith's bodied

:12:31. > :12:42.but hadn't seen if Dougherty or his daughter had been involved in any

:12:43. > :12:45.Vincent admitted helping to move his Vincent admitted helping to move his

:12:46. > :12:47.body although he said he couldn't remember how Mr Smith's phone and

:12:48. > :12:49.later got into his pocket weather patterns and clothing fibres

:12:50. > :12:52.recovered were from his clothes or how Mr Smith's bodied later came to

:12:53. > :12:57.be burnt, despite alleged evidence from his wife that he told her he

:12:58. > :13:02.had done it. You killed Mr Smith: Didn't you? No, said Mr Aitken. All

:13:03. > :13:04.of the defendants deny all of the of the defendants deny all of the

:13:05. > :13:09.charges and the trial continues. A Leicestershire hospital,

:13:10. > :13:12.which first opened its doors Ashby

:13:13. > :13:16.and District Hospital has 16 respite But the building needs almost

:13:17. > :13:21.a million pounds worth of repairs. This afternoon the local clinical

:13:22. > :13:24.commissioning group decided to shut it down and use the money saved to

:13:25. > :13:35.treat more patients in their homes. It is better for the people of our

:13:36. > :13:41.speed to get care where they needed. If we are looking at basic care that

:13:42. > :13:47.can be provided in people 's own home, we know people recover quicker

:13:48. > :13:52.at home. It allows us to focus our other resources on hospitals where

:13:53. > :13:53.they need hospital care. It enables us to focus our resources where

:13:54. > :13:57.people needed most. Nottingham has

:13:58. > :13:59.a brand`new television channel. Notts TV started broadcasting

:14:00. > :14:01.at four clock this afternoon. It's a commercial station covering

:14:02. > :14:04.greater Nottingham and is owned by a consortium made up of the

:14:05. > :14:07.Nottingham Post, Nottingham Trent University, and two media companies,

:14:08. > :14:09.Confetti and Inclusive Digital. It will include local news,

:14:10. > :14:14.and programmes about Nottingham. The channel's being broadcast

:14:15. > :14:39.on Freeview Channel 8. Sexual Nottingham's historic castle

:14:40. > :14:50.make over, transforming it into a make over, transforming it into a

:14:51. > :14:54.world`class tourist attraction. Reform bill rioters stormed

:14:55. > :15:01.Nottingham Castle, torching it and getting it. Just part of its rich

:15:02. > :15:07.past. In its 1000 year history, this place has been a Norman castle, a

:15:08. > :15:14.mansion and a museum. But does it really cut it as a tourist

:15:15. > :15:20.attraction? No. I came about ten years ago and it hasn't changed a

:15:21. > :15:24.great deal. It's not as castle like as I would have imagined. They need

:15:25. > :15:29.to be more interactive elements, for the children to have a better

:15:30. > :15:34.experience. Now a Heritage lottery fund boost of ?13 million could help

:15:35. > :15:39.to transform it. It has come a long way and has come a long time to get

:15:40. > :15:48.here. It would be great for local people, for tourism and will improve

:15:49. > :15:52.the economy by ?77 million. We expect to bring 20,000 children to

:15:53. > :16:08.hear every year. They are planning to open up the caves below.

:16:09. > :16:14.Robin Hood is well known around the world. So is Nottingham Castle.

:16:15. > :16:18.Let's make it work for Nottingham. There is much to be done to secure

:16:19. > :16:24.the grant and the full ?24 million of funding. If they do, the

:16:25. > :16:36.castle's rich past could secure a prosperous future.

:16:37. > :16:40.Coming up later in the programme: A soldier's letters from the trenches

:16:41. > :16:43.inspire a new play. The second minute is based on the

:16:44. > :17:04.correspondence between a mother and her son in World War I but...

:17:05. > :17:10.Coming up a look back at Derby's heart`breaking day at Wembley,

:17:11. > :17:18.Here they are, two European Championship Silvers.

:17:19. > :17:21.How good does it feel to have those in your hand?

:17:22. > :17:26.The last two weeks have been amazing. The girls have done so well

:17:27. > :17:32.at the Europeans. Our junior boys have done so well. To finish it off

:17:33. > :17:37.with two Brits on the podium on Sunday in the last event, it was a

:17:38. > :17:40.great week. Let's look at the performances. We had a standout

:17:41. > :17:45.vault from you in the team competition. The highlight was the

:17:46. > :17:51.great to come back from a poor start. We had a difficult start.

:17:52. > :17:54.There were a couple of mistakes in the first two rotations. We needed

:17:55. > :18:02.to pick it up and I was happy to do that fault. I managed to stick my

:18:03. > :18:06.routine on the high bars. It got the rest of the team going. Going into

:18:07. > :18:11.the floor, we had some incredible scores, three scores over 15.

:18:12. > :18:14.Finishing off on the pommel horse, there was a world record. It was

:18:15. > :18:20.amazing to even get back into contention. Speaking of the high

:18:21. > :18:24.bar, that is your individual event. One of the favourites fell at the

:18:25. > :18:26.beginning. Did that affect you? I was trying to go out there to do my

:18:27. > :19:38.big Mike ` big routine. Football is ugly and cold

:19:39. > :19:48.sometimes. It was an insanely cruel day for Derby County and their fans.

:19:49. > :19:54.It is just heartbreaking. They played with pride and we did not

:19:55. > :20:01.deserve it. I feel physically sick. Gutted. Broken hearts. I don't know

:20:02. > :20:05.how long it'll take to get over it. 120 million and a place on match of

:20:06. > :21:44.the day snatched away with just ten until full`time.

:21:45. > :21:46.including Jonathan Greening, Matt Derbyshire and Ishmael Miller.

:21:47. > :21:50.Cycling's Milk Race could be back in the East Midlands again next year.

:21:51. > :27:47.The prestigious cycling event drew crowds of sixty thousand on Sunday,

:27:48. > :27:49.See you again at 10:25pm. That's it from us for now. Goodbye.
