:00:00. > :00:15.Now on BBC One, it's time for the news where you are. Bye for now.

:00:16. > :00:17.With your news now for the East Midlands, I'm Maurice Flynn.

:00:18. > :00:21.There are calls for securitx around a statue of Gandhi in Leicester to

:00:22. > :00:25.The graffiti made reference to the Golden Temple Massacre hn India

:00:26. > :00:32.A bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi has stood proudly in

:00:33. > :00:36.Leicester's Golden Mile fivd years ago, a symbol of Leicester's

:00:37. > :00:42.But it's been daubed with graffiti, upsetting the charity that

:00:43. > :00:48.It's hugely disrespectful bdcause we can't see any reason for anx sort

:00:49. > :00:56.This is a cohesive communitx and we had a lot of support from everybody.

:00:57. > :00:59.The graffiti makes reference to 1984.

:01:00. > :01:02.That's when the Indian Army were ordered into the Golden Temple to

:01:03. > :01:08.Sikhs marched through London today to mark 30 years since thosd raids

:01:09. > :01:12.and to protest about what they claimed was India's failure to

:01:13. > :01:16.prevent the deaths of thous`nds of Sikhs in rioting that sale year.

:01:17. > :01:20.Here, Leicestershire Police are investigating the vandalism.

:01:21. > :01:26.We have this before but now we are going to have a serious conversation

:01:27. > :01:30.with the authority to look `t security and safety of this area.

:01:31. > :01:34.I think we'll be looking at CCTV, more police patrols.

:01:35. > :01:36.A garland quickly replaced the graffiti,

:01:37. > :01:46.symbolising peace and respect, both teachings of Mahatma G`ndhi.

:01:47. > :01:49.150 people turned up for an illegal rave in Rutland overnight.

:01:50. > :01:53.Police received reports of loud music and large grotps in a

:01:54. > :01:57.Officers have worked to stop it getting any bigger,

:01:58. > :02:10.It is a dark section of the wood and we have to deal with it frol a

:02:11. > :02:15.safety perspective for the officers and people involved, so, as you can

:02:16. > :02:17.see, we have the roadblocks on and that is what we have been doing all

:02:18. > :02:19.night. A Leicestershire councillor says he

:02:20. > :02:22.won't give up the fight agahnst a traveller site that's stood

:02:23. > :02:25.without permission for five years. The travellers own the land

:02:26. > :02:27.at Barlestone near Hinckley, but have been ordered to le`ve,

:02:28. > :02:35.as Tom Brown reports. Tucked away in the Leicestershire

:02:36. > :02:40.countryside as a traveller site generating huge controversy. They

:02:41. > :02:44.arrived here on Good Friday back in 2009 but five years on, thex still

:02:45. > :02:49.don't have permanent planning permission. In the nearby vhllage,

:02:50. > :02:52.residents have complained of anti`social behaviour. And the local

:02:53. > :02:57.councillor has been handing out leaflets, urging people to keep

:02:58. > :03:01.fighting the site. There ard six sites in the area and they will

:03:02. > :03:06.basically come here for what they need, and while some of thel are

:03:07. > :03:10.probably fine and we probably don't even notice them, there are the ones

:03:11. > :03:14.that come in and cause us trouble. This is the only sight of those six

:03:15. > :03:19.without permanent planning permission. The traveller

:03:20. > :03:22.application was rejected by Bosworth and Hinckley Borough councils and

:03:23. > :03:26.said there would be an unacceptable increase in traffic and othdr birds

:03:27. > :03:30.affect on the countryside's appearance. The travellers have

:03:31. > :03:36.appealed and their case will now be heard in October. The vast number of

:03:37. > :03:40.travellers realise that going through the official route hs the

:03:41. > :03:44.way to do it. They don't want to upset people. In this day and age

:03:45. > :03:50.people do deserve a decent place to live. It is illegal and bec`use it

:03:51. > :03:55.hasn't got planning permisshon, if we let this one happen, we obviously

:03:56. > :03:59.going to get more. It is a war of words that has now entered hts sixth

:04:00. > :04:00.year and it will be another four months before we are any closer to a

:04:01. > :04:03.final result. A church in Derby finished ten

:04:04. > :04:06.days of non`stop prayer earlier The prayer`a`thon at

:04:07. > :04:09.Littleover Methodist Church saw parishioners sign up for an hour

:04:10. > :04:12.each, even through the night. It was to mark Pentecost

:04:13. > :04:15.and ended this morning with Let's check the weather now.

:04:16. > :04:27.Mel has our forecast. Good evening. It has been a fine day

:04:28. > :04:33.for many places but we have had one or two showers around.

:04:34. > :04:38.The cloud increases bringing the risk of one or two showers first

:04:39. > :04:43.thing on Monday but it will feel quite close, with humidity rising

:04:44. > :04:47.and overnight lows of 13. So quite a sticky day tomorrow. Lots of

:04:48. > :04:52.sunshine around, albeit hazx, but also one or two showers, whhch could

:04:53. > :04:53.be heavy and potentially thtndery. But in dry spells feeling pleasant

:04:54. > :04:55.with a high of 21. More for you later than usu`l

:04:56. > :05:12.at 10.55pm. Goodbye. Good evening. We got to 25 Celsius

:05:13. > :05:17.this afternoon. There were some heavy showers elsewhere. Low

:05:18. > :05:21.pressure to the west of the United Kingdom, anticlockwise winds around

:05:22. > :05:25.that, dragging in some warm air from the near continent. The showers will

:05:26. > :05:32.tend to fade away from Scotland and Northern Ireland overnight. Further

:05:33. > :05:37.showers drifting up. 8.00am, in the South West, it is largely fine and

:05:38. > :05:42.dry. Fairly warm, though. Could be 17 or 18 at 8.00am. So quite a warm

:05:43. > :05:46.start to the day. Maybe one or two showers in the south. A much higher

:05:47. > :05:50.chance of seeing some rain in the morning. Largely dry early on in

:05:51. > :05:53.Northern Ireland and in Scotland. We have those showers further south. We

:05:54. > :05:57.have the breeze coming up from the south, so we will see those showers

:05:58. > :05:58.drifting their way northwards into
