:01:26. > :01:28.thanks to a programme, led by parents in Nottingham, which has

:01:41. > :01:54.taking a closer look at the detail of the project.
:01:55. > :01:57.At this centre in Bulwell, the parents are leading the way. They've

:02:05. > :02:09.expect some big changes in the way they are taught, fed, and

:04:59. > :05:03.poverty in Nottingham, and ht would suggest a failure to providd direct
:05:04. > :05:07.support for these children? There are a lot of things that contribute
:05:08. > :05:10.to tell property, and with this government levels of child poverty
:05:11. > :05:13.have gone up. That would be a question you would have to `sk

:05:28. > :05:30.Here we have got an opportunity that we have bid for, and we are

:05:35. > :05:38.can I ask you, how will this money be spent? It will make a difference
:05:39. > :05:42.by connecting with families, I'd think that is 1 of the most
:05:43. > :05:45.important things. Over thesd reports you have heard a lot about dvidence

:05:50. > :05:53.exactly what we want to do. We are fantastic at bridging progr`mmes
:05:54. > :05:57.together, but if we don't connect with families, we will not lake a
:05:58. > :06:02.difference. That is why we have put this bid together, and why we spoke
:06:03. > :06:06.to 1500 families. You say connecting with families. Tangibly, wh`t does
:06:07. > :06:11.that mean? How will you be spending the money? Parents will be hnvolved
:06:12. > :06:15.in deciding how the money is spent. Obviously, we put in our proposals,
:06:16. > :06:19.and they've funded as on thd basis of those, but actually they wanted
:06:20. > :06:23.us to be very detailed only for the 1st couple of years of this 10 year
:06:24. > :06:27.programme. What we have to do is prove that what we are doing works,
:06:28. > :06:32.and we will do that by meastring and testing everything that we do. If I
:06:33. > :06:38.can as a last question, how will you know if it is working when ht has
:06:39. > :06:42.worked? As Michelle says, there will be a lot of review of the things we
:06:43. > :06:46.do, to make sure that the programmes we are using are working, and that
:06:47. > :06:51.we can see tangible outcomes in terms of children's nutrition, in
:06:52. > :06:57.terms of their readiness for school, in terms of engagemdnt with
:06:58. > :07:01.families. Will it take 10 ydars Michelle? Some of the things will.
:07:02. > :07:07.Some of the programmes will be shorter. We will use a varidty of

:20:44. > :20:50.Some old and has been chosen. And the gold medallist, Becky Downie is
:20:51. > :20:59.going, as is coach clear St`rkey. How proud are you? I am verx, very
:21:00. > :21:03.proud and honoured to go as 1 of the team coaches. Obviously, we did feel
:21:04. > :21:07.that Becky had earned her place so I was pretty sure that she would be
:21:08. > :21:12.in the team, and I assumed that I would be in the background `s usual,
:21:13. > :21:15.coaching her up to a point `nd then watching her go out with thd team
:21:16. > :21:21.and the other team coaches, but this time I am honoured to be thd England
:21:22. > :21:25.team coach. You have been f`irly expert `` outspoken in the past
:21:26. > :21:31.about how the England team has handled things, so are you surprised
:21:32. > :21:38.`` surprised to be chosen? @ little bit. Usually we have certain coaches
:21:39. > :21:44.for major events, and yes I have been outspoken, because as personal
:21:45. > :21:48.coaches are the ones who ard here day in day out, and obviously at the
:21:49. > :21:53.Olympics Becky went out on the floor with out me, I was in the
:21:54. > :21:57.background, and at the last Olympics she missed out, and I was a bit
:21:58. > :22:01.outspoken about that. I thotght she should have been there. But I am
:22:02. > :22:06.here coaching Becky and the team, and I will always fight my corner.
:22:07. > :22:13.You are taking on the team that is expected to do great things? Any
:22:14. > :22:19.pressure? Yes, a little bit, but the team are very experienced. H am very
:22:20. > :22:24.proud of them. We have the Liverpool girls with us here today tr`ining as
:22:25. > :22:28.well. We will work together as a team, and have done for manx years.
:22:29. > :22:33.I think they will do a good job We shall wait and see, and watch with
:22:34. > :22:38.interest. Leah Starkey, chosen to be the coach at the Commonwealth Games
:22:39. > :22:44.in Glasgow. Becky Downie and Sam Oldham will be there as well. The
:22:45. > :22:49.Commonwealth battened reallx came through this region while I was away
:22:50. > :22:50.last week. This time last wdek, Leicester really sent it off on its
:22:51. > :22:52.way to Scotland. You may remember a few weeks ago, we
:22:53. > :22:56.featured the epic journey of two men who had the ambitious idea of
:22:57. > :22:59.driving a minibus stacked to the roof with 500 artificial legs, all
:23:00. > :23:02.the way to Africa to help alputees out there. It seemed a pretty mad
:23:03. > :23:05.idea ` in an old van with almost 200,000 miles on the
:23:06. > :23:08.clock. In fact I even joked they wouldn't get beyond the Watford Gap.
:23:09. > :23:13.But fair play to them, the pair have proved me wrong and they've come
:23:14. > :23:16.back to tell us how they got on Victoria Hicks went to meet to them
:23:17. > :23:20.and compiled this report. The whole journey was over 4000
:23:21. > :23:23.miles. There were lots of troubles on the way. We broke down pretty
:23:24. > :23:26.much problems to overcome. One of them
:23:27. > :23:33.was just even getting into certain countries. There were lots of issues
:23:34. > :23:38.where that country would want some money off us to allow us to bring
:23:39. > :23:42.the limbs in. We felt a lot of pressure that we had to obvhously
:23:43. > :23:45.succeed and get the legs thdre, it wasn't an option to fail. Sdeing how
:23:46. > :23:50.happy people were, when we got there, and the joy on their faces
:23:51. > :23:53.and lots of emotion, it was all prosthesis of the department, where
:23:54. > :23:58.we took the legs to. He had never
:23:59. > :24:01.seen so many legs before. Hd usually receives between 10 and 30 legs from
:24:02. > :24:06.Europe every year. And so when he had 500 on his doorstep, ye`h, I
:24:07. > :24:12.mean, he was really overwhelmed He actually cried and I think we all
:24:13. > :24:16.did, actually, didn't we? Wd all I met a guy called Sheikh, `nd he
:24:17. > :24:21.had lost his legs ten years ago, and they
:24:22. > :24:25.didn't even know what was wrong with the reason why he lost his legs And
:24:26. > :24:32.luckily we had brought a leg which he was able to use within one week
:24:33. > :24:34.of bringing the 500 legs out there
:24:35. > :24:48.we've only skimmed the surf`ce of it, it's a huge problem. So
:24:49. > :24:56.we're going to continue collecting prosthetic legs. We're hoping to
:24:57. > :25:00.collect 1000 by Christmas and have We believe that there are still over
:25:01. > :25:05.20,000 each year which could be retsed and
:25:06. > :25:10.sent across to be used in the Gambia. So, you know, we ard still
:25:11. > :25:13.going to collect from anywhere we can, anyone who has a
:25:14. > :25:16.spare leg, we are going to try and send it over to the Gambia for
:25:17. > :25:39.them. Spear a part for the weather
:25:40. > :25:47.presenters. There is not a lot going on. It is a bit grey and cloudy at
:25:48. > :25:52.the moment. First of all, I have a picture to show you. This is a field
:25:53. > :25:55.of poppies, which is shining brightly despite the lack of
:25:56. > :26:04.sunshine. Keep these picturds coming in. There are some subtle changes on
:26:05. > :26:07.the week over the next 24 hours or so. High pressure still anchored to
:26:08. > :26:11.the north and the West. That is going nowhere over the next few
:26:12. > :26:16.days, but we had a cheeky wdather front meeting in by the back door,
:26:17. > :26:20.which will produce a little bit of rain tonight, and may still be
:26:21. > :26:23.around first thing tomorrow, so we will wake up to the gloom fhrst
:26:24. > :26:28.thing tomorrow, but there whll be some brightness and some brdaks in
:26:29. > :26:32.that in the afternoon and a pleasant. Lovely sunshine in
:26:33. > :26:36.southern parts, but the clotd rolling into words the afternoon. A
:26:37. > :26:41.few brighter bits at the molent but that cloud will begin up once again
:26:42. > :26:46.over the next you are is. It will produce a few spots of light rain,
:26:47. > :26:50.nothing particularly heavy, just a sprinkling for the gardens lay be
:26:51. > :26:56.across eastern parts. It is dried, it is cloudy, it is damp I should
:26:57. > :27:01.say, and a very muddy one. Temperatures of 14 or 15 Celsius.
:27:02. > :27:06.Quite uncomfortable for sledping. Tomorrow morning, we started off
:27:07. > :27:10.quite great and a little bit of rain, which will clear off for the
:27:11. > :27:16.afternoon, so it pleasant into the day and feeling warm as well.
:27:17. > :27:20.Temperatures of 20 Celsius. Not much change over the next few daxs.
:27:21. > :27:23.One sporting thing to mention that's happened in the last hour or so
:27:24. > :27:26.Nottinghamshire completed a stunning run chase to pull off a six`wicket
:27:27. > :27:28.win in their LV County Championship Division One match against Liddlesex
:27:29. > :27:31.at Trent Bridge. They hit 387 for four, reaching their target with 11
:27:32. > :27:38.overs to spare. The win means they go to the top of the table.
