:00:00. > :00:32.He's been on assignment with the London Mayor, Boris Johnson

:00:33. > :00:36.And now the news for the East Midlands, I'm Dominic Heale, Good

:00:37. > :00:39.evening. Villagers are opposing plans to develop one of the

:00:40. > :00:43.country's largest sand and gravel quarries only a few hundred yards

:00:44. > :00:45.from their homes. They say ht'll be catastrophic for wildlife and the

:00:46. > :00:49.environment.The 80`hectare site will stretch from the village of Barton

:00:50. > :00:52.In Fabis in Nottinghamshire to the border of the Attenborough Nature

:00:53. > :00:55.reserve and over to Clifton. Here's our chief news reporter, Qudntin

:00:56. > :00:57.Rayner. Barton In Fabis is raising an army to fight this proposed

:00:58. > :01:01.quarry. Villagers and Rambldrs rallying to defend what thex regard

:01:02. > :01:04.as a precious piece of countryside for both people and wildlifd. The

:01:05. > :01:07.proposed area is the equivelant of 36 Old Market Squares in Nottingham

:01:08. > :01:10.and will border the Attenborough Nature Reserve behind me and will

:01:11. > :01:14.stretch all the way to thosd woods in the distance. It feels lhke we're

:01:15. > :01:18.under attack. We have had the A 53 widening, a tram put in, a housing

:01:19. > :01:22.development and now they want to dig up this land as well. When xou look

:01:23. > :01:27.at the landscape here, how beautiful it is, this is going to be destroyed

:01:28. > :01:30.if we do not do something about it. The council says it has a statutory

:01:31. > :01:34.responsibility to identify lineral reserves for the future and this is

:01:35. > :01:37.one of five new quarries it has to consider. We are obliged by central

:01:38. > :01:41.government to find sites for mineral extraction, we have to find sites

:01:42. > :01:45.for up to 49 million tonnes of sand and gravel extraction by thd year

:01:46. > :01:57.2030, that will be used for projects such as houses, roads and r`il

:01:58. > :02:03.projects. If approved, thred million tonnes of sand and gravel whll be

:02:04. > :02:07.excavated from the site. Thhs is potentially catastrophic for this

:02:08. > :02:11.part of Nottingham. It is bding stolen from under our noses. We have

:02:12. > :02:15.a nature reserve just across the river there and the valley hs used

:02:16. > :02:20.by birds, 75 types of conservation concern. So far, 2,000 leaflets

:02:21. > :02:23.about the scheme have been delivered, another 1,000 will be

:02:24. > :02:29.dropping through letterboxes in the next couple of days.

:02:30. > :02:35.Police have named two men who died in a plane crash at the weekend The

:02:36. > :02:37.light aircraft came down in a field near the M1 motorway in

:02:38. > :02:40.Nottinghamshire on Saturday afternoon. 70`year`old John Gill

:02:41. > :02:45.from Belper and 76`year`old Robert Eaves from Selston died at the

:02:46. > :02:49.scene. Police say there werd no medical conditions that contributed

:02:50. > :02:53.to the crash. An air accident investigation is continuing.

:02:54. > :02:58.Leicester's hospitals have the biggest cash shortfall in the

:02:59. > :03:03.country. That claim's been lade today by the Labour Party. HT says

:03:04. > :03:14.the big deficit shows the NHS is in crisis. Carolyn Moses reports.

:03:15. > :03:20.Lester's hospitals have strtggled with their financial health for

:03:21. > :03:27.years. Now the University hospitals have left the trust in charge it has

:03:28. > :03:36.been found to be working with the biggest shortfall in the cotntry,

:03:37. > :03:40.just under ?40 million. We `s a health economy and trust cotld

:03:41. > :03:45.clearly have done better. Wd are working closely with partners to

:03:46. > :03:54.work out better ways of meeting those challenges, to access patient

:03:55. > :03:58.quality and finances. Why is it in this situation? The trust s`ys it

:03:59. > :04:04.has not received as much money as expected from other parts of the

:04:05. > :04:10.NHS, bus its wage bill has risen sharply. The health minister who

:04:11. > :04:18.released the figures also blames the government reorganisation of the

:04:19. > :04:25.health service. It does not make sense to cut figures so that people

:04:26. > :04:33.end up in hospital. It does not do to reorganise the back structures to

:04:34. > :04:38.be more complicated. The trtst says it has a plan in place to gdt back

:04:39. > :04:48.to financial fitness but th`t could take a number of years. In `

:04:49. > :04:51.statement, the Department of Health says, "The Government has m`de tough

:04:52. > :04:55.decisions on the economy but at the same time we have increased the NHS

:04:56. > :04:58.budget in real terms. It is essential that Trusts have ` tight

:04:59. > :05:01.financial grip and ensure they live within their means. Deliverhng high

:05:02. > :05:04.quality services and balanchng the books must go hand in hand." Some

:05:05. > :05:09.students affected by a blood test scare at the University of Derby are

:05:10. > :05:13.now seeking compensation. More than 600 people were given blood tests by

:05:14. > :05:18.a health care worker who was later found to be re`using syringd

:05:19. > :05:27.barrels. Letters were sent warning students they might be at rhsk of

:05:28. > :05:32.diseases like hepatitis and HIV Several have now begun legal action.

:05:33. > :05:39.The university says an investigation is underway. Fresh from his victory

:05:40. > :05:41.in the hotly`contested Newark by`election, Conservative MP Robert

:05:42. > :05:45.Jenrick, has asked his first question in the House of Colmons. Mr

:05:46. > :05:48.Jenrick was loudly cheered by his fellow Tory MPs before posing a

:05:49. > :05:56.question to the Prime Minister about the flooding in Southwell l`st

:05:57. > :06:00.summer. I regret to inform the Prime Minister that a town in my

:06:01. > :06:05.constituency was again flooded last week. We'll be Prime Ministdr

:06:06. > :06:09.reaffirmed his commitment to support my proposal that those parts of

:06:10. > :06:15.Nottinghamshire which were severely affected by the floods of 2013 will

:06:16. > :06:18.receive similar grants to those parts of the country flooded earlier

:06:19. > :06:22.this year? Well, David Cameron responded by saying he's looking at

:06:23. > :06:24.whether the county could be made eligible for winter flood

:06:25. > :06:27.compensation. 100 new bus thmetables in Leicester have got to be taken

:06:28. > :06:31.down and repositioned. Contractors placed them too high for people to

:06:32. > :06:34.read. It was all due apparently to the shape of the lamp posts. The

:06:35. > :06:38.council's now having them rddone. That's your news. So, it's goodbye

:06:39. > :06:44.from me, but with your weather now, here's Anna Church. Thank you. We

:06:45. > :06:50.have had the warm day to dax and they settled weather is set to

:06:51. > :06:54.continue for the rest of thd week. I am hopeful we should see sole decent

:06:55. > :07:00.sunny spells by tomorrow afternoon. There are clear skies at thd moment.

:07:01. > :07:05.The cloud will increase frol the North into the early hours of

:07:06. > :07:14.Thursday morning. It is a mhld night. Tomorrow morning, a cloudy

:07:15. > :07:20.start. The chance for a little light patchy rain or drizzle but lost of

:07:21. > :07:23.ours will get away with a Friday. Into the afternoon the cloud will

:07:24. > :07:28.fin and break to give some sunny spells. Another warm afternoon. I'll

:07:29. > :07:36.leave you with the outlook. Celsius. The outlook for the weekend

:07:37. > :07:39.is looking pretty good.
