:00:00. > 3:59:59Inevitable, I suppose. That's all from the News at Six. Goodbye from

:00:00. > :00:18.me. On Police say the growers are changing

:00:19. > :00:23.tactics with multiple smalldr scale operations. They are having

:00:24. > :00:30.multiple, smaller grows throughout communities, all at addressds rented

:00:31. > :00:34.by themselves. And this drug only became illegal today, but whll its

:00:35. > :00:38.people using khat? Also tonight, the hospital hoping

:00:39. > :00:44.its plans for a helipad really take off.

:00:45. > :00:48.And World Cup whizz kid Diego' diction for tonight's England game.

:00:49. > :00:56.I think England are going to win 2`1.

:00:57. > :01:02.First tonight, a new crackdown on homegrown drugs.

:01:03. > :01:06.East Midlands Today can revdal that Nottinghamshire Police have set up

:01:07. > :01:11.the region's first specialist team to tackle cannabis gangs.

:01:12. > :01:13.The force has told us that it's seizing around 50

:01:14. > :01:18.This exclusive report from our social affairs

:01:19. > :01:35.Searching for illegal cannabis growers has become a full`thme job,

:01:36. > :01:38.with the tell`tale pungent smell bringing the police to this House.

:01:39. > :01:41.They did not need to force their way in because the tenant was ott and

:01:42. > :01:46.the door was unlocked. Downstairs they found a typical family home,

:01:47. > :01:52.littered with toys and photos. In the bedroom, a different story. As

:01:53. > :01:57.you go up the stairs, the slell gets stronger and stronger. You can see

:01:58. > :02:04.why. This is a growing tent, several cannabis plants inside, alrdady

:02:05. > :02:08.harvested and hanging out to dry. But finding cannabis is just the

:02:09. > :02:12.start, the police have to prove that dogs are being sold. That is where

:02:13. > :02:17.Nottinghamshire's new cannabis dismantling team comes in, team of

:02:18. > :02:20.experts to gather evidence `nd free up local officers. Because we deal

:02:21. > :02:25.with it on a daily basis, wd know what we need to seize and the whole

:02:26. > :02:32.process will be great we reduce in time. It's a cost saving. Police

:02:33. > :02:35.used to find cannabis being grown in large factories, these days, the

:02:36. > :02:40.drug is becoming harder to find with gangs becoming more

:02:41. > :02:45.sophisticated. Organised gangs are approaching people in residdntial

:02:46. > :02:51.areas, and they are having lultiple small grows throughout commtnities.

:02:52. > :02:56.Or renting addresses themselves So if they do lose one or two of those

:02:57. > :02:59.grows, they do not lose all of the crop. There are disagreements about

:03:00. > :03:03.the damage cannabis causes, but by the police, it is simple. It is

:03:04. > :03:06.illegal and growers who get caught can end up in jail.

:03:07. > :03:10.This new team came into operation on the day another drug has bedn

:03:11. > :03:18.Khat acts as a stimulant and is very popular amongst Somalis.

:03:19. > :03:21.The ban has been welcomed by the Somali community in

:03:22. > :03:25.Leicester, which has itself pushed for the drug to be made illdgal

:03:26. > :03:33.Here's our chief news reporter, Quentin Rayner.

:03:34. > :03:40.Imported from Africa, khat hs a legal plant which when chewdd, acts

:03:41. > :03:46.like a less powerful amphet`mine. You ticket, you are very happy. It

:03:47. > :03:54.makes you happy. Can you im`gine someone who doesn't eat for three

:03:55. > :04:02.days? Who is talking, 24 hotrs. It is made! I have lost five children

:04:03. > :04:18.and a beautiful wife. Due to this khat. Gentleman, from today, khat is

:04:19. > :04:23.illegal. It is not at least a third of the Somali community use khat,

:04:24. > :04:27.including women. I welcome ht very much, the community welcomes the

:04:28. > :04:30.ban, it has a huge impact on our community, including familids and

:04:31. > :04:35.children. It has serious consequences financially, socially

:04:36. > :04:43.and culturally. Criminalising khat is a bit like banning smoking. There

:04:44. > :04:50.will be a response rating, `nd potentially prosecution. Ophnion is

:04:51. > :04:54.divided about the health risks. The Home Affairs Select Committde

:04:55. > :04:58.opposed the ban, because it believes there is insufficient evidence of a

:04:59. > :05:03.direct link between its use and psychosis. Are conveniences is that

:05:04. > :05:07.it can cause mental illness in people. The main things are, in high

:05:08. > :05:14.doses it can cause psychosis, and when you stop taking it, it can

:05:15. > :05:15.cause depressive illness. It is hoped Somalis will ensure the ban is

:05:16. > :05:18.effective. Earlier I spoke to Danny Kushlik of

:05:19. > :05:21.Transform, a charitable think`tank that campaigns for the legal

:05:22. > :05:23.regulation of drugs. I asked him what he thought about the ddcision

:05:24. > :05:36.to ban khat. Actually, it has been banned for no

:05:37. > :05:41.good reason. Clearly, khat does cause problems for some people. But

:05:42. > :05:46.its prohibition will only ptsh users who continue to use underground and

:05:47. > :05:51.will give the trade to a regulated dealers and organised criminals It

:05:52. > :05:56.does not help anybody. We spoke to a former khat user who spoke of how it

:05:57. > :06:03.ruined his life, surely by laking it illegal, it sends a strong lessage

:06:04. > :06:06.to users? Simply, if we devdloped public policy for alcohol on the

:06:07. > :06:10.basis of what alcoholics told us, we might well move to ban it, but where

:06:11. > :06:15.are we to do that, we would begin the same as what happened in the

:06:16. > :06:21.alcohol prohibition in the TS between 1920 and 1933. It m`de it

:06:22. > :06:24.very dirty and dangerous. So, the answer is to control it and

:06:25. > :06:29.regulated and look after usdrs through the health system. We were

:06:30. > :06:33.also speaking about the fact that once a week, there is a cannabis

:06:34. > :06:38.raid in our region. Clearly, a big problem. How would you deal with

:06:39. > :06:42.that? Illegal cannabis crops are a product of prohibition in the same

:06:43. > :06:48.way that illegal alcohol sthlls were. The way to deal with them is

:06:49. > :06:54.to stop them happening at all, the legally regulate cannabis through

:06:55. > :06:59.licensed retailers and for the government to take control. It takes

:07:00. > :07:03.the unknown `` unregulated dealers out of business. So, we shotld

:07:04. > :07:09.decriminalise all drugs? Government should take control of prodtction,

:07:10. > :07:12.supply, of all drugs, that can potentially cause harm. We do not

:07:13. > :07:13.want them in the hands of paramilitaries and organised

:07:14. > :07:15.criminals. A double decker bus hit a r`ilway

:07:16. > :07:18.bridge in Leicestershire earlier, disrupting rail services and

:07:19. > :07:22.blocking traffic during rush hour. It happened in Sileby

:07:23. > :07:24.near Loughborough just These photographs were taken

:07:25. > :07:29.by a viewer. The bus company Ausden Clark says

:07:30. > :07:31.there were no passengers It's understood it was on its way to

:07:32. > :07:52.collect schoolchildren from another I heard a big bang, and I c`me out

:07:53. > :07:58.of the door and there is thd bus, just under the bridge. We dhd not

:07:59. > :08:04.know if anyone was on it. Wd were really scared. The noise of it as

:08:05. > :08:08.well, it was terrifying. Thdre was a bang and everyone came runnhng out,

:08:09. > :08:11.it was stuck right in the mhddle, right underneath.

:08:12. > :08:13.Tributes have been paid to a fighter who died

:08:14. > :08:16.after he took part in a boxhng match at a nightclub in Nottinghal.

:08:17. > :08:17.Lance Ferguson`Prayogg, from Liverpool,

:08:18. > :08:20.died in hospital after paraledics were called to the Forum cltb

:08:21. > :08:21.at the Cornerhouse on Saturday afternoon.

:08:22. > :08:57.I think Lampard will pass it through the defenders. I think the school

:08:58. > :08:59.will be 2`1, to England. `` the score.

:09:00. > :09:01.The husband whose wife and three children were murdered

:09:02. > :09:05.in Leicester's Wood Hill fire broke down in court today as he rdad out

:09:06. > :09:11.Dr Muhammed Taufiq described himself as being like

:09:12. > :09:15.a brutally wounded bird without wings.

:09:16. > :09:17.He said to stop inhumane crhmes happening again,

:09:18. > :09:22.criminals should not be let out of prison for the rest of their lives.

:09:23. > :09:27.Mike O'Sullivan was in court and can tell us more.

:09:28. > :09:29.Mike, another emotional day for Dr Taufiq?

:09:30. > :09:33.He walked into the witness box in Court 1 to read out

:09:34. > :09:38.He lost his wife Shehnila, daughter Zainab, who was 19,

:09:39. > :09:41.and his sons Bilal, 17, and Jamal, 15, in the arson attack at

:09:42. > :09:43.Wood Hill in Leicester last September.

:09:44. > :09:47.Across from him sat the two men convicted of murder and six others

:09:48. > :10:48.And in his statement, Dr Tatfiq said the fire has stolen everythhng

:10:49. > :10:54.The teenager who murdered hhm will spend longer in prison will stop

:10:55. > :10:58.Hussain Hussain, 19, stabbed Mr Akpom after a confrontation in Kent

:10:59. > :11:02.Street last September. He w`s given a life sentence with a minilum term

:11:03. > :11:10.of 15 years and today this was increased to 22 years by thd Court

:11:11. > :11:15.of Appeal. The victim was of good character, someone who did good work

:11:16. > :11:19.in the community, a mentor, someone who ran a local football cltb. And

:11:20. > :12:58.although there was a verbal interchange, that was no excuse for

:12:59. > :13:03.20 years. It is run by the charity Scope. Tim loves it here. If you

:13:04. > :13:08.visit on a Saturday night, they are watching TV, having a wonderful

:13:09. > :13:09.time. To expect him to go somewhere else and get used to a whold new way

:13:10. > :17:49.of living without all his friends, the moment, still? We will find out.

:17:50. > :17:57.Diego, what was your prediction 2`1 to England. It could be a bht of a

:17:58. > :18:02.quickfire finish! But you love your football? Yes. We filmed with you at

:18:03. > :18:06.a Brazilian football club that you belong to, what is it you lhke about

:18:07. > :18:13.the game? At Italy the Brazhlian style. I like learning new stuff. ``

:18:14. > :18:20.particularly the bronzed `` the Brazilian style. You are very good

:18:21. > :18:25.with the ball. All that fancy stuff. They teach you skills, how to

:18:26. > :18:30.dribble and how to shoot. You are very good at it. As we can see from

:18:31. > :18:40.these pictures. How long have you been playing football? I don't know

:18:41. > :18:45.exactly. About two years. As a whole has been made about football? About

:18:46. > :18:52.the last three years. He has come to enjoy it more. He is getting more

:18:53. > :18:58.experience and learning how to deal with the ball, he thinks he is a pro

:18:59. > :19:01.now! He did say England werd a bit rubbish and they have not rdally

:19:02. > :19:09.delivered for us, so which teams do you like at the moment? Brazil, and

:19:10. > :19:14.Argentina. Is that because of the style of football they play?

:19:15. > :19:21.Well... It is more exciting. What should be done about England being

:19:22. > :19:26.so rubbish? Should they comd to your training school? You could probably

:19:27. > :19:31.teach them a thing or two. @re there any other brothers and sistdrs who

:19:32. > :19:36.are made on football? No, hd is an only child. I take it you would like

:19:37. > :19:44.to play for England? Could xou change it? Yes. Thank you so much

:19:45. > :19:54.for coming in. The game has finished now, it is a goalless draw. Never

:19:55. > :20:03.mind! Thanks for coming in. It is not just football that is ilported,

:20:04. > :20:08.there is Wimbledon. Doesn't it look beautiful down

:20:09. > :20:12.here? But we really do want to talk about tennis because we are in for

:20:13. > :20:15.quite a fortnight. Not just nationally, but in the East Midlands

:20:16. > :20:20.as well, just lend Ray going in the doubles, fantastic, yesterd`y, a

:20:21. > :20:24.host of juniors next week, ` lot of them have a decent chance and we

:20:25. > :20:29.will follow all of them. But today was about Dan Smethurst, since he

:20:30. > :20:33.moved to Nottingham, he has done extraordinary things with hhs

:20:34. > :20:40.career. His ranking has gond from 400 all the way to under 250, sheer

:20:41. > :20:44.determination and guts. That was enough to get a wild card hdre at

:20:45. > :20:49.Wimbledon into the first rotnd. A pretty unkind draw meant he was up

:20:50. > :20:53.against John Izmir, but Dan can be really proud of what he had done,

:20:54. > :20:57.beaten but never disgrace, `nd sometimes playing really gorgeous

:20:58. > :21:06.tennis. In the end, the powdrful service overwhelmed Dan and it

:21:07. > :21:07.finished with the American winning. But there is still stuff here to

:21:08. > :21:12.work on. Well, while we dream of mord British

:21:13. > :21:15.success on the courts here, England's dreams of World Ctp

:21:16. > :21:18.success are long gone. The game just finishing

:21:19. > :21:19.against Costa Rica So, why was the tournament such

:21:20. > :21:23.a failure for England? Kirsty Edwards has been to

:21:24. > :21:43.Loughborough University, The hopes of a nation left hn

:21:44. > :21:49.tatters. The postmortem alrdady underway. Just what went wrong for

:21:50. > :21:58.England? For those involved in sports psychology, it is all in the

:21:59. > :22:01.mind. At a high level of sport, it is often the psychological side that

:22:02. > :22:04.is the distinction factor bdtween those that achieved at the highest

:22:05. > :22:07.level and those that do not quite make it, because of the pressure,

:22:08. > :22:11.these athletes are there because they are the best in the world. It

:22:12. > :22:18.equalises things, they all become fairly equal because `` technically.

:22:19. > :22:23.It is who can deal with the pressure that succeeds. Damn `` Roy Hodgson

:22:24. > :22:28.but in a top psychologist jtst before the tournament but it was far

:22:29. > :22:31.too late. We are seeing that psychologists who are involved

:22:32. > :22:37.around the clock the whole xear as part of the preparation, yot would

:22:38. > :22:43.never leave physical prepar`tion to the last minute so why would you do

:22:44. > :22:46.that the psychology? England's stars were left devastated by thehr early

:22:47. > :22:51.exit and it has the potenti`l to break these players, but it could be

:22:52. > :22:54.the making of them. We have done studies of Olympic gold med`llists

:22:55. > :22:59.and we found that for a lot of these athletes, have had, Dick experiences

:23:00. > :23:03.early in their career and often they reflect on these and s`y they

:23:04. > :23:07.were turning points in their lives, when they became single`minded and

:23:08. > :23:12.motivated to achieve at the highest level. So it can be done, you can

:23:13. > :23:18.turn this major adversity into a real springboard to further success.

:23:19. > :23:24.That is one picture of wherd England might be going wrong.

:23:25. > :23:28.One man with half a clue wh`t the England team are going through

:23:29. > :23:31.Tomorrow he starts his pre`season with the Rams.

:23:32. > :23:36.Today he's been here at Wimbledon, indulging his other passion.

:23:37. > :23:41.The crowds flocking here and Steve McCarren loves being in amongst

:23:42. > :23:46.them. He has played the gamd of tennis and scenes in great latches

:23:47. > :23:51.on these courts. I have alw`ys loved tennis and coming here, it hs

:23:52. > :23:55.special, it is a British tr`dition. To come here, this is my thhrd time,

:23:56. > :23:59.and this time the weather is very good. You could forgive him for

:24:00. > :24:04.being distracted by events on the other side of the world. He has been

:24:05. > :24:08.part of three major tournamdnts with England, even he found the speed of

:24:09. > :24:11.their destruction this time in Brazil startling. I think it is

:24:12. > :24:18.trying to adapt to how the game is going. Quite rightly, we ard trying

:24:19. > :24:22.to adapt with these younger players, expanding the game more. Th`t has

:24:23. > :24:26.left us vulnerable at the b`ck. If you do not defend well, you do not

:24:27. > :24:31.win games. The grass tomorrow will have a different character, but

:24:32. > :24:35.Steve's staff should not be surprised if what he has sedn at

:24:36. > :24:39.Wimbledon makes its way to the training pitch tomorrow. Thdy are

:24:40. > :24:43.individuals and that is where we can learn from tennis because it is very

:24:44. > :24:49.much a selfish sport, you h`ve to concentrate on yourself. Yot have to

:24:50. > :24:52.do it yourself. You have to have great self belief and motiv`tion,

:24:53. > :24:58.inspiration. That comes frol within. But now, Steve McCarron shotld be

:24:59. > :25:01.grateful he just has to watch sporting stars. `` Steve McClaren.

:25:02. > :25:03.Back here at Wimbledon, Dan Smethurst will be reflecting

:25:04. > :25:07.on a brave first appearance at the Championships.

:25:08. > :25:12.You mentioned a very busy fortnight, who else should we be looking out

:25:13. > :25:19.for? Next week we have the likes of Freya

:25:20. > :25:22.Christie, who is going in the juniors. It can be a springboard to

:25:23. > :25:29.success here at Wimbledon. We will be watching her closely. Thdre is

:25:30. > :25:33.the genuine chance, Freya Christie beat the world number seven just

:25:34. > :25:41.over the road. In case you `re wondering where you had heard the

:25:42. > :26:30.name John Isner, showery outbreak. That front will

:26:31. > :26:35.continue to move South tonight, taking the rain with it, so it will

:26:36. > :26:38.dry up again. It will introduce a lot cooler and fresher air or

:26:39. > :26:43.tomorrow. Once again, dry for much of the day with brightness `nd

:26:44. > :26:51.sunshine. But you will notice the difference in terms of how ht feels

:26:52. > :26:54.tomorrow, mid to high teens. So the cool and fresher air will bd coming

:26:55. > :26:59.through tonight, the weather front will be sinking South, that will

:27:00. > :27:03.take the showers with it. Some clear spells, but light winds and

:27:04. > :27:08.temperatures will take it `` will take a tumble. Into single figures

:27:09. > :27:12.in some places. Baby around ten or 11 in the town centres. The moral

:27:13. > :27:17.morning, starting off dry and write with sunshine around. `` tolorrow

:27:18. > :27:20.morning. Cloud building into the afternoon. It will stay dry and

:27:21. > :27:27.bright throughout the day. Temperatures 17 or 18. And ht stays

:27:28. > :27:31.quite cool as the going to be end of the week, finally the rain will

:27:32. > :27:38.catch up with us on Friday, staying cooler and showery for the weekend.

:27:39. > :27:43.I will be back at a slightlx later time of 11.35 tonight.

:27:44. > :28:01.See you later. Catch the late-afternoon games

:28:02. > :28:27.on the go.
