:00:00. > :00:14.Tonight ` a new air travel terror alert.

:00:15. > :00:23.The new alert is linked with a printer cartridge bomb at E`st

:00:24. > :00:28.Midlands airport. Stay away, Ofsted bash why this

:00:29. > :00:36.private school does not want the inspectors in. They can't gdt a full

:00:37. > :00:41.hitch of the education that this and many other independent schools

:00:42. > :00:46.provide for their children. A fertility clinic celebratds its

:00:47. > :00:51.25th anniversary. The dark days we have been through, I never thought

:00:52. > :00:58.we would be here. Happiest loment of my life and it is just getthng

:00:59. > :01:02.happier and happier. They are electric cars, but not as wd know

:01:03. > :01:13.them. Formula E racing is at Minton Park. It may just be the future ``

:01:14. > :01:17.Donington Park. First tonight,

:01:18. > :01:20.experts say bomb`making techniques used in a plot that was foiled

:01:21. > :01:23.at East Midlands Airport ard thought America has urged all countries that

:01:24. > :01:28.operate direct flights to the US, including the UK,

:01:29. > :01:30.to step up their checks. To tell us more our reporter

:01:31. > :01:41.Simon Hare is at Castle Donhngton. Good evening. America calling on

:01:42. > :01:45.countries to beef up their security after receiving intelligencd that

:01:46. > :01:51.two terrorist networks could be working on a new type of bolb that

:01:52. > :01:56.may evade existing security checks. It is thought to be the inspiration

:01:57. > :02:01.of one man, already known to the security staff here at East Midlands

:02:02. > :02:04.airport. Four years ago East Midlands airport found itself at the

:02:05. > :02:09.centre of an international one plot. An explosive device hhdden

:02:10. > :02:15.inside a printer cartridge was recovered from a cargo pland bound

:02:16. > :02:19.for Chicago. Now security experts say the man behind that is thought

:02:20. > :02:30.to be responsible for this latest scare. For the last five ye`rs there

:02:31. > :02:35.have been done in Yemen, an expert Saudi bomb maker has been btilding

:02:36. > :02:41.viable explosive devices, vdry small, innovative and clever, some

:02:42. > :02:46.of them disguised as Inc cartridges, and he has been able to

:02:47. > :02:51.get them through airport security and on to international flights The

:02:52. > :02:56.fear is that he has taught ` new generation of Al`Qaeda oper`tives.

:02:57. > :03:01.The Department for transport says it has stepped up security across all

:03:02. > :03:07.UK airports. It is keen to dmphasise that there has not been a change in

:03:08. > :03:14.the threat level at news of any alert is bound to cause concern

:03:15. > :03:18.What does the airport have to say? The airport says it is not changing

:03:19. > :03:22.its advice for passengers and they should turn up as normal, ldaving

:03:23. > :03:28.the same amount of time the check`in as usual on about it is cle`r some

:03:29. > :03:33.changes have been made, but we are not being told what they ard for

:03:34. > :03:38.obvious reasons. We have bedn told they are not as obvious as hn the

:03:39. > :03:45.past, other scares such as the so`called liquid bomb threat, but

:03:46. > :03:47.the Department of Transport say they have taken these steps to sdcure

:03:48. > :03:51.public safety. Still to come `

:03:52. > :03:53.a new dawn for Nightingale Road Development plans are revealed

:03:54. > :04:14.for the street in Derby that was Racing company has been cle`red of

:04:15. > :04:20.wrongdoing after a spectator suffered an eye injury.

:04:21. > :04:25.David Matthews was injured by rouble thrown up by a car.

:04:26. > :04:28.Mallory Park had already adlitted a health and safety offence. Today

:04:29. > :04:33.charges against another company were dismissed.

:04:34. > :04:38.David Matthews still bears the scars of his last trip to Mallory Park. I

:04:39. > :04:46.have been going to Mallory Park all my life. I was hit in the exe by a

:04:47. > :04:51.stone and the next thing I knew I was going to hospital. It h`ppened

:04:52. > :04:57.at a rally cross event in Atgust 2010. Today the lid on Hill racing

:04:58. > :05:01.circuit company appeared in court charged with three breaches of

:05:02. > :05:06.health is beef. The prosecution claimed it was organising the event

:05:07. > :05:11.but the defence said it was simply promoting it. Delivering his

:05:12. > :05:16.verdict, the judge said it needed to be proved beyond reasonable doubt

:05:17. > :05:21.that the company was responsible for organising the event and thd

:05:22. > :05:25.prosecution failed to do so. He found the company and its m`naging

:05:26. > :05:30.director not guilty. Really pleased. It has taken five xears to

:05:31. > :05:35.get to this point and I was always confident. Hinckley and Bosworth are

:05:36. > :05:40.council says it is disappointed with today's version `` verdict but

:05:41. > :05:45.pleased that Mallory Park h`d already pleaded guilty. Davhd

:05:46. > :05:51.Matthews says it has changed his life for good. Before the event I

:05:52. > :05:59.was a sailing instructor, spuash player, keen gardener, I can't do

:06:00. > :06:03.any of them any more. He just wishes the event had never happened.

:06:04. > :06:06.A teenager from Leicester is in intensive care in Turkey after

:06:07. > :06:09.Declan McNulty, who's 18, was attacked outside a bar

:06:10. > :06:13.He suffered a serious stab wound to his stomach.

:06:14. > :06:14.A 19`year`old from Scotland has appeared hn court

:06:15. > :06:18.Declan's the second UK citizen to be stabbed

:06:19. > :06:26.A controversial bare`knuckld boxing fixture planned for this wedkend

:06:27. > :06:29.in Hinckley has been postponed. Organisers have called off the event

:06:30. > :06:33.at the Greene King Stadium while licensing and planning issuds are

:06:34. > :06:38.sorted out. It follows a medting yesterday between them, the ground's

:06:39. > :06:41.owner, the police, and the local council. Some critics had ddscribed

:06:42. > :06:46.Members of the Royal Enginedrs in Nottinghamshire have marked

:06:47. > :06:51.The soldiers, based at Chetwynd Barracks in Chilwell, held ` special

:06:52. > :06:57.Around 30 personnel were also awarded medals for their duties

:06:58. > :07:08.The 63 Works Group has spent the last eight months based in

:07:09. > :07:14.The head teacher of a top private school in the

:07:15. > :07:20.East Midlands says he doesn't want government inspectors in,

:07:21. > :07:23.claiming it would ruin the puality of education his school provides.

:07:24. > :07:25.And he's not alone, because a teaching union agrees, saying Ofsted

:07:26. > :07:41.It is said the Battle of Waterloo was won on the playing fields of

:07:42. > :07:48.Eton, but here at Trent College in Long Eaton there is a more lodern

:07:49. > :07:52.battle brewing. Keith Morrow is head of its junior school and nursery.

:07:53. > :07:57.Despite being a former Ofstdd inspector he has publicly click ``

:07:58. > :08:03.criticised plans to send thdm into private schools. The teams `re small

:08:04. > :08:07.and fen `` spend a few days in a school like this and I am worried

:08:08. > :08:13.they will not be able to get a full picture of the education th`t a

:08:14. > :08:15.school like this and many other independent schools provide. The

:08:16. > :08:21.headmaster is expressing concerns that education will not be hmproved

:08:22. > :08:29.by Ofsted inspector `` inspdctions, which we have been saying for many

:08:30. > :08:33.years. The Department for Education says it has been listening to all

:08:34. > :08:37.views on the subject and will announce the results of the

:08:38. > :08:40.consultation soon but it wants to tighten up regulation in prhvate

:08:41. > :08:49.schools and make sure inspections are robust. I am relaxed about

:08:50. > :08:53.having won Lee `` one level playing field for all schools but there

:08:54. > :08:57.needs to be lots of observations so it is about children who cole to our

:08:58. > :09:03.school and not being a political Inspectorate. He says sending in

:09:04. > :09:13.Ofsted here would simply result in the end of their existing stccesses.

:09:14. > :09:15.Next tonight ` a new era for Nightingale Road.

:09:16. > :09:18.Plans have gone on display showing how a historic former factory site

:09:19. > :09:23.A builder wants to put up htndreds of homes on the century`old former

:09:24. > :09:25.Rolls`Royce site ` land that's stood derelict for the past six ydars

:09:26. > :09:37.Once proudly displayed, the famous Rolls`Royce name on the front of the

:09:38. > :09:40.Marble Hall on Nightingale Road looks the worse for wear. Where the

:09:41. > :09:49.factory behind it stood is just cleared wasteland. At the local

:09:50. > :09:55.community centre the developers and officers for Derby city homds show

:09:56. > :09:59.local people the plans for tp to 380 houses and some flats that could go

:10:00. > :10:06.on the site. Consultation showing local people what housing there not

:10:07. > :10:14.green space, but good links to parks and amenities nearby. It is about

:10:15. > :10:19.creating links to the park. The factory was first opened in 190 and

:10:20. > :10:29.saw production of engines for planes in both wars. In the 1990s ht was

:10:30. > :10:32.changed to rope `` robot opdration and in 2011 it was demolishdd. This

:10:33. > :10:38.development will link to thd history. There is a rather large

:10:39. > :10:41.historic window in the back of the marble hall and we are trying to

:10:42. > :10:47.make a feature that of the site to maintain some of the historx in the

:10:48. > :10:52.area. Only a quarter of the homes will be for rent, the rest for

:10:53. > :10:55.sale. If developers get planning permission house`building could

:10:56. > :11:02.start in 12 months but the site could take eight to nine ye`rs to

:11:03. > :11:03.finish, linked to a parallel plan to preserve and reuse the historic

:11:04. > :11:10.marble hall. It's been a day of celebrathon

:11:11. > :11:13.for two organisations which, each in their own way, have played

:11:14. > :11:16.hugely important roles in the East One of them,

:11:17. > :11:19.Leicester's Fertility Centrd, based at the Royal Infirmarx,

:11:20. > :11:21.has helped bring 2500 babies into We have two reports,

:11:22. > :11:38.the first from Helen Astle. All babies are special, somd extra

:11:39. > :11:43.special. Meet Oliver, aged 04 weeks. For Rachael and Rich`rd it

:11:44. > :11:48.has been a 10`year wait to become parents. They were referred to the

:11:49. > :11:55.Leicester Fertility Centre, where Rachael underwent IVF, costhng them

:11:56. > :12:00.thousands of pounds. We had six attempts where it failed and it was

:12:01. > :12:09.gut wrenching. On the seventh attempt it was... Absolutelx

:12:10. > :12:15.fantastic. The centre has hdlped bring around 2500 babies into the

:12:16. > :12:20.world. For us it is a wonderful achievement, not just the b`bies but

:12:21. > :12:27.the impact on the families, the grandparents, the wider famhly

:12:28. > :12:32.circle, not just a couple. For us it is a landmark achievement. Rachael

:12:33. > :12:40.and Richard still can't belheve that they be Oliver is still herd. `` is

:12:41. > :12:47.here. In the dark days we ndver imagined we would really be here. We

:12:48. > :12:51.are smiling all the time, wd look at him. Especially as he gets older and

:12:52. > :12:56.gets more character, the little smiles, it is the happiest loment of

:12:57. > :13:01.our life and getting happier and happier each day.

:13:02. > :13:07.Wonderful. Well, we said it was an important

:13:08. > :13:09.day for two organisations, and this one back also goes back to

:13:10. > :13:13.the '80s, when a grieving d`ughter, Cally Cheetham, began the c`mpaign

:13:14. > :13:15.to start a hospice in Derbyshire. Since then the Treetops Hospice

:13:16. > :13:17.hasn't stop growing. Today Cally, the founder, w`s back

:13:18. > :13:20.to open a new support centrd. As our health correspondent

:13:21. > :13:35.Rob Sissons reports, There is me, ladybird outfit. It was

:13:36. > :13:41.1983 when Cally took to the streets of Derbyshire campaigning for a

:13:42. > :13:47.hospice after losing her parents. Having nursed my mum some 13 years

:13:48. > :13:55.earlier and then my father, everything had changed, obvhously.

:13:56. > :14:06.Their words nobody to help xou. `` there was. The day centre at tree

:14:07. > :14:14.tops is busy. These people have multiple sclerosis. It is great

:14:15. > :14:18.seeing friends, socialising. I really look forward to coming to

:14:19. > :14:27.tree tops. It is the only thme I ever go out. We help about 300

:14:28. > :14:35.people in year as we currently stand, and that is much smaller

:14:36. > :14:40.premises. This is one place where people can come and say the word

:14:41. > :14:45.death. This 14`year`old belheves he has benefited from the counselling.

:14:46. > :14:50.He lost his grandmother thrde years ago. It makes such an impact on

:14:51. > :14:55.people's lives when they have somewhere like this to go to. The

:14:56. > :14:58.new building named after thd founder. She lives in Francd but was

:14:59. > :15:04.back in Derbyshire to do thd honours. It is emotional, btt it is

:15:05. > :15:13.not just me, it is me and htndreds of people. It is a brilliant,

:15:14. > :15:17.brilliant place. I spent thd day there once, love it.

:15:18. > :15:19.In a moment, in sport, Formula One goes electric.

:15:20. > :15:22.And, later, Maurice gets to grip with a prickly problem.

:15:23. > :15:32.They survive in some of the most hostile places on the planet and

:15:33. > :15:35.they never need pruning, whhch is just as well, because with these

:15:36. > :16:05.spikes you would have to be pretty brave or foolish to do it. Ht is a

:16:06. > :16:11.brand`new motorsport and Colin is at Donington Park.

:16:12. > :16:15.The first public test of formula E here at Donington Park. It hs

:16:16. > :16:21.totally new and it means a lot to Donington. There are ten eldctric

:16:22. > :16:25.racing teams, or based at Honington Park, they all do their devdlopment

:16:26. > :16:37.work here and they are pumphng a lot into the economy. `` will b`sed We

:16:38. > :16:43.have been with virgin Racing as they have been putting these cars

:16:44. > :16:48.together almost from scratch. `` Virgin.

:16:49. > :16:51.For these engineers it is both very familiar and very new.

:16:52. > :16:54.Formula E is not only setting out to transform racing.

:16:55. > :16:58.Within months what they learn here could be in production cars.

:16:59. > :17:01.We are excited because it is the beginning of a new era.

:17:02. > :17:07.We are pretty confident in terms of the car, how it operates,

:17:08. > :17:12.the mechanics and the chasshs, but what we are curious about is the

:17:13. > :17:15.electrical parts, how much dnergy we are using, how we are gohng to

:17:16. > :17:23.It does not always feel like a garage.

:17:24. > :17:32.And cars that arrive a bit like flatpack furniture.

:17:33. > :17:38.The first car came fully buhlt but the second car arrived

:17:39. > :17:45.These guys can rebuild a car in two hours so it is not really a problem.

:17:46. > :17:47.In just a few days the cars being assembled

:17:48. > :17:52.Every team has the same one so the question is obvious.

:17:53. > :18:00.What are you going to do th`t gives you an advantage out there?

:18:01. > :18:11.I would like to think that the team I have

:18:12. > :18:18.These cars will carry batteries running at astonishing volt`ges

:18:19. > :18:21.but they insist it is all thought through and this is the futtre.

:18:22. > :18:24.The more you learn it the more you become accustomed to it.

:18:25. > :18:27.For us it is not a big thing, it is just a new thing.

:18:28. > :18:50.Now the new thing is ready to roll and hoping to be a very big thing.

:18:51. > :19:04.It is not Formula one and they are keen to say that some, but they ``

:19:05. > :19:10.but people will say that. The top speed of Formula one is arotnd 25

:19:11. > :19:16.mph. A much calmer 144 formtla either. A Formula one car goes

:19:17. > :19:24.through 100 kilograms of fudl in a race. Formula E, precisely none at

:19:25. > :19:28.all. It will be up to the pdople who watch whether this takes off. Let's

:19:29. > :19:34.talk to a few people with their noses pressed up against thd fence.

:19:35. > :19:42.It has been a great day, re`lly enjoyed it. The noise is very

:19:43. > :19:48.different. It is, I actuallx prefer it. It does not send me to sleep.

:19:49. > :19:54.Enjoy the rest of the day. There has been plenty happening elsewhere

:19:55. > :19:58.notably at Derby County, whdre Craig Bryson has signed a new fivd`year

:19:59. > :20:02.deal. Derby County showing a real

:20:03. > :20:07.statement of intent with thd five`year deal for their prdy ``

:20:08. > :20:12.player of the season. Craig Bryson becomes the fifth star of the club

:20:13. > :20:21.to commit his future there hn the space of a week. It was a chance to

:20:22. > :20:24.go and play in the Premiership but I would love to get to the Prdmiership

:20:25. > :20:33.with Derby County. I have loved every minute here, it is a lassive

:20:34. > :20:39.club, the fans have been excellent, the management staff, everybody has

:20:40. > :20:42.been excellent, and I am delighted. Matthew Fry says he had no

:20:43. > :20:45.hesitation in turning down the opportunity to stay in the Premier

:20:46. > :20:55.League with Hull City. He told me today why he opted for cap `t Forest

:20:56. > :21:05.instead. `` for Forest instdad. As soon as I knew the manager was

:21:06. > :21:09.interested, it was an easy decision. Hopefully we can do really well this

:21:10. > :21:12.year. Cricket, and Derbyshire havd been

:21:13. > :21:23.beaten by three wickets at the County ground.

:21:24. > :21:27.Katie Boulter lost her singles girls match at Wimbledon in straight sets

:21:28. > :21:31.today but did at least win hn her doubles match.

:21:32. > :21:37.I have been taken inside ond of the garages. You are not just a driver

:21:38. > :21:44.of some repute but your namd is above the door. How are thex to

:21:45. > :21:50.drive? It has been a diffictlt day for the team, we have had some

:21:51. > :22:00.problems, but it is the first day, so... Why have you come in `s a team

:22:01. > :22:07.principal for formula E? I like the concept, it is new and very

:22:08. > :22:13.attractive. It is amazing to have you all here. What kind of ` host

:22:14. > :22:19.has Donington Park being? It is really good, I am enjoying being

:22:20. > :22:25.here. Tell me a bit about Mhchaela as well. Why did you bring her on

:22:26. > :22:35.board? We truly believe she is a strong driver, and is being next to

:22:36. > :22:41.me with 15 years of experience, I can bring it all to her to lake her

:22:42. > :22:47.a better driver. Thank you very much indeed, we will let you get back to

:22:48. > :22:52.it. He is leading his own tdam here in formula E. We will try to follow

:22:53. > :23:01.this story for you as much `s we can.

:23:02. > :23:02.Nice cars, nice accents as well Yes, the Italians are Very Reverend

:23:03. > :23:12.mantic. `` very romantic. Now, when you think of romantic

:23:13. > :23:24.plants, most people might sdttle on But for plant lovers,

:23:25. > :23:28.as in the wider population, beauty One East Midlands couple were swept

:23:29. > :23:32.off their feet by something altogether less

:23:33. > :23:33.voluputous and fragrant. Yes,

:23:34. > :23:39.their love blossomed over a cactus. A greenhouse full of so much more

:23:40. > :23:47.than green. These cactus flowers last just two days but cacth have a

:23:48. > :23:53.life span like a tree, hundreds of years. For more than 40 years these

:23:54. > :23:57.have been one couple's obsession and it was their love for these that saw

:23:58. > :24:02.their love for each other blossom. We were having a walk in thd Park in

:24:03. > :24:10.Sheffield and there was a greenhouse in the middle and I said to Brian,

:24:11. > :24:15.they have some of those cacti! Not instantly the most romantic of

:24:16. > :24:22.plants. He said to me, come and see my cacti. He had glass housds full

:24:23. > :24:32.of them and I had about thrde. Other couples might send roses at

:24:33. > :24:39.anniversaries, you exchange cacti. He sometimes sends me a bunch of

:24:40. > :24:44.characters for hours. Their prickly nature has sedn them

:24:45. > :24:48.rather unimaginatively named the hedgehog cactus but they can get a

:24:49. > :24:56.lot larger than their names`ke, up to half a metre tall. Not to be

:24:57. > :25:01.confused with the globe this all, this cactus is found wild in Bolivia

:25:02. > :25:09.and Argentina and in the cactus community it is their trumpdt like

:25:10. > :25:15.flowers that sets them apart. Jail and Brian have added almost 200
