:00:00. > :01:27.has been hit by a missile in northern Gaza. That's all from the

:01:28. > :01:29.Today with Anne Davies and le, Maurice Flynn. Tonight ` thd

:01:30. > :01:33.terminally ill woman who's home was ransacked while she was in hospital.

:01:34. > :01:36.This house that she has paid for through working in a factorx. Also

:01:37. > :01:40.tonight, it could simple blood tests have saved the life of young Harry?

:01:41. > :01:44.And the research this woman says has helped her survive long cancer. It

:01:45. > :01:48.is amazing. I hope to be here a bit longer and would not be alive if it

:01:49. > :01:51.was not for this drug. Hello and Welcome to tonight's progralme.

:01:52. > :01:55.Those stories coming up but first we can reveal that several men have now

:01:56. > :01:58.been arrested on suspicion of raping children at care homes. It follows

:01:59. > :02:00.dozens of historic allegations of abuse around Nottingham and in

:02:01. > :02:03.Derbyshire. And tonight it's emerged that one suspect has died shnce

:02:04. > :02:06.being questioned by detectives. Our Social Affairs Correspondent, Jeremy

:02:07. > :02:08.Ball, can tell us more. How significant is this investigation?

:02:09. > :02:10.Detectives have now identifhed 0 potential victims. Part of this

:02:11. > :02:12.inquiry is the children's home in Mapperley where a number of

:02:13. > :02:17.residents claimed they suffdred horrific physical and sexual abuse.

:02:18. > :02:21.James is one of them. He told me that he was gang`raped at Bdechwood

:02:22. > :02:25.from the age of ten. And whdn he tried to complain to the police he

:02:26. > :02:31.simply wasn't believed. I break down sometimes when it comes to lind and

:02:32. > :02:36.if I have a drink it is worse, the memory comes back. Even thotgh I am

:02:37. > :02:41.on very high sleeping tablets, I still wake up with nightmards. I

:02:42. > :02:47.cannot forget it. They were there to look after me, not to abuse me. So

:02:48. > :02:54.how difficult is this investigation? It's been extremely complex. Because

:02:55. > :03:08.these allegations go back more than 40 years. And that means

:03:09. > :03:18.corroborating details of whdre abuse allegedly took place and who carried

:03:19. > :03:26.out that abuse. From many, lany years ago. So far ten men h`ve been

:03:27. > :03:44.arrested as part of this inpuiry. The police say seven won't face any

:03:45. > :03:55.action. This investigation's far from over. The family of a child who

:03:56. > :04:01.died after being released from hospital want to know if a simple

:04:02. > :04:06.blood test could have saved his life. After waiting nine hotrs

:04:07. > :04:10.without any tests they asked if they could take him home for the evening

:04:11. > :04:17.and the doctor said so long as he comes back in the morning. We took

:04:18. > :04:22.him in on the Saturday mornhng and they said he would be disch`rged and

:04:23. > :04:27.they said you are not getting the test, we are discharging yot and you

:04:28. > :04:33.can take him home. Then I fhnd him the next morning, he had passed

:04:34. > :04:41.away. The parents say they still do not know why their son died. I want

:04:42. > :04:46.answers from the hospital. Hf I neglected my child or even `n animal

:04:47. > :04:49.I would be prosecuted. That is what the hospital bed. They left my son

:04:50. > :05:01.there for nine hours and nothing happened.

:05:02. > :05:12.Whatever the outcome, Harry's parents say they will never be able

:05:13. > :05:19.to come to terms with what happened to their son. They also found a hard

:05:20. > :05:31.armour and said they would do an ECG on him but they did not. He was just

:05:32. > :05:34.left. In other news tonight, A Nottinghamshire prison has been

:05:35. > :05:37.described as one of the most dangerous jails that inspectors have

:05:38. > :05:40.visited in some time. The rdport by the Prisons Inspectorate saxs Ranby

:05:41. > :05:43.Jail is unsafe with high levels of violence. Four inmates have taken

:05:44. > :05:46.their own lives since 2013. Prison officials say the governor has taken

:05:47. > :05:49.decisive action to address the problems. Union leaders havd been

:05:50. > :05:52.meeting with bosses at the bread maker Hovis today, after thd company

:05:53. > :05:56.announced plans to close its bakery in Leicester with the loss of two

:05:57. > :05:59.hundred jobs. The site will shut early next year. The Bakers, Food

:06:00. > :06:02.and Allied Workers Union will meet with Hovis again on Monday to

:06:03. > :06:06.discuss options for keeping jobs on site. In a statement, the company

:06:07. > :06:09.said it needed to reduce its manufacturing operations to remain

:06:10. > :06:12.competitive. No further acthon will be taken against a food mantfacturer

:06:13. > :06:22.that supplied halal lamb burgers with pork in them to schools in

:06:23. > :06:25.Leicester. The City Council withdrew the burgers given to 19 schools last

:06:26. > :06:28.year, after tests showed thdy contained up to 50% pork. However an

:06:29. > :06:32.investigation by the authorhty found Paragon Quality Foods Limitdd

:06:33. > :06:38.exercised "due diligence". Xou're watching East Midlands Todax, with

:06:39. > :06:41.Anne and Maurice tonight. Still lots to come ` particularly if you're a

:06:42. > :06:54.keen knitter or know someond who is. Your Country Needs you!

:06:55. > :06:59.A 71`year`old woman from Lehcester who is in hospital with terlinal

:07:00. > :07:06.cancer, has had her home ransacked and thousands of pounds worth of

:07:07. > :07:09.gold stolen. Naseem Moghal's family say they feel shattered by the

:07:10. > :07:28.burglary at the family home in Wigston. The jewellery is v`lued at

:07:29. > :07:31.around ?50,000. A reward of ?50 0 is being offered for information that

:07:32. > :07:39.leads to an arrest and convhction, as Emily Anderson reports. While my

:07:40. > :07:47.mum was at her weakest point in hospital we did not protect the

:07:48. > :07:52.house so we have let her down. She came here 40 years ago bringing with

:07:53. > :08:00.her the jury which was stoldn which has been in the family for 050

:08:01. > :08:03.years. She always worked hard and carried on working until earlier

:08:04. > :08:09.this year when she was admitted to hospital. All of this housing

:08:10. > :08:17.including the bricks and mortar she paid for through working for the

:08:18. > :08:22.very long time. The police do not think the house was targeted because

:08:23. > :08:29.there was Asian cold there, they think it was a cruel attack on an

:08:30. > :08:33.empty home. These callous individuals showed no regard for

:08:34. > :08:37.this family's feelings. Thex broke into this one, ransacked it and

:08:38. > :08:44.stole a large amount of Asi`n jewellery. We want to do evdrything

:08:45. > :08:49.within the law to bring these despicable people to justicd. This

:08:50. > :08:57.was tipped over and bits of it broken off. They have not told their

:08:58. > :09:04.mum about the break`in, the say it would destroy her. The jury is worth

:09:05. > :09:09.thousands of pounds but the family say the sentimental value is

:09:10. > :09:12.priceless. A man who denies murder got his own family to flee from

:09:13. > :09:16.their home only hours beford the house two doors away was set ablaze

:09:17. > :09:20.in a botched revenge attack, killing four people. Abdul Hakim saxs he

:09:21. > :09:23.feared he'd get the blame as he was at the scene when the sports coach

:09:24. > :09:27.Antoin Akpom was fatally st`bbed. Mike O'Sullivan can tell us more

:09:28. > :09:36.from Nottingham Crown Court. Mike what's been said about that warning.

:09:37. > :09:41.Well the court's heard that the warning to get out of the house was

:09:42. > :09:44.given over the course of a series of phone calls made by 20`year`old

:09:45. > :09:47.Abdul Hakim to his mother shortly after Antoin Akpom was fatally

:09:48. > :09:50.stabbed in September last ydar. Mr Hakim denies murder but was at the

:09:51. > :09:54.scene of the stabbing and w`s concerned he'd get the blamd. He

:09:55. > :09:58.told his mother to leave thd house in Wood Hill in Leicester and take

:09:59. > :10:08.his younger sisters aged 15 and seven with her. She did that. Seven

:10:09. > :10:11.hours after the stabbing at around half past midnight, a house two

:10:12. > :10:15.doors away from Abdul Hakim's home was targeted in a botched rdvenge

:10:16. > :10:18.arson attack. Eight men, now jailed, were involved in setting fire to the

:10:19. > :10:23.house, killing four members of the Taufiq family, a mother and three

:10:24. > :10:26.children, aged 15 to 19. Thdy were well`respected members of the

:10:27. > :10:39.community and had absolutelx nothing to do with the stabbing at `ll.

:10:40. > :10:43.Giving evidence in the witndss stand in his defence, Mr Hakim sahd, I

:10:44. > :10:47.knew that they are going to try to attack me sir or if they cannot get

:10:48. > :10:51.me they are going to get my family. I telephoned my mum to tell her to

:10:52. > :11:01.get the kids out of the house, my little sisters. " What's he said

:11:02. > :11:04.about the stabbing itself? Well the stabbing happened in Kent Street in

:11:05. > :11:09.Leicester at around 5:30 in the afternoon. Mr Akpom was in ` group

:11:10. > :11:11.of round eight or nine men from a gym who confronted Mr Hakim and

:11:12. > :11:15.another man, 19`year`old Hussein Hussein. Mr Hakim says Mr Akpom

:11:16. > :11:18.swung a dumbell at him. Hussein Hussein has already been convicted

:11:19. > :11:22.of murder and he actually stabbed Mr Akpom. Mr Hakim says the first he

:11:23. > :11:26.knew of that was when he saw blood on Hussein Hussein's jacket as they

:11:27. > :11:41.ran away. He says he never knew Hussein Hussein had a knife. The

:11:42. > :11:47.case continues. Ofsted inspdctors say a troubled free school hs making

:11:48. > :11:53.progress getting out of special measures. Last year it was described

:11:54. > :11:58.as dysfunctional and inadeqtate The primary school is now run bx a new

:11:59. > :12:07.trust. The latest inspection report says staff are tackling the issues

:12:08. > :12:11.that were raised. The region's Ambulance Service has hit all of its

:12:12. > :12:14.response time targets for the first half of the year ` something it

:12:15. > :12:18.failed to do throughout last year. EMAS was fined for a third

:12:19. > :12:20.successive year in 2013 aftdr it failed to meet national targets for

:12:21. > :12:23.patients involved in life`threatening emergencies. The

:12:24. > :12:25.service said the action its taken to improve response times is "paying

:12:26. > :12:29.dividends". Severn Trent Water says it's been able to cut the ntmber of

:12:30. > :12:33.water leaks in the region to its lowest ever level. But it admits it

:12:34. > :12:36.can still do more. And one Derby city councillor has called on the

:12:37. > :12:51.company to also tackle problems caused by flash flooding. Shmon Hare

:12:52. > :12:54.reports. A major water leak on Blackburn Rovers in Leicestdr. It

:12:55. > :13:03.was being treated this mornhng within hours of being reported. It

:13:04. > :13:13.is still losing a quarter of the company's supplies everyday. We try

:13:14. > :13:17.to maintain a continuous supply to our customers. We have over 46, 00

:13:18. > :13:23.kilometres of pipework in the region. With the resources we have

:13:24. > :13:31.we can only cover a small alount at any one time so we rely on customers

:13:32. > :13:36.to notify us of any they sed. Not a water leak at a flash flood last

:13:37. > :13:42.weekend caused by a torrenthal downpour. There is a storm drain

:13:43. > :13:46.under the road here which h`s obviously collapsed Horsfield cause

:13:47. > :14:02.all this came up with the pressure of the water. They have not had a

:14:03. > :14:06.good record at fixing leaks but if they are focusing on that at the

:14:07. > :14:16.expense of major infrastructure like this there are major problels. They

:14:17. > :14:20.need to focus on both. They are investing in sewerage and strface

:14:21. > :14:26.drain pipes to cope with thd volume of rainwater. Next tonight ht's the

:14:27. > :14:35.biggest cancer killer in thd East Midlands. Lung cancer. Doctors say

:14:36. > :14:39.to improve survival we need to make earlier diagnosis and improve

:14:40. > :14:42.treatment and research. At King s Mill Hospital in Nottinghamshire

:14:43. > :14:46.they've been trialling a drtg which they hope will help some patients

:14:47. > :14:50.with lung cancer to live longer In the final part of our series on

:14:51. > :15:01.health research the story of one woman who's being helped. How are

:15:02. > :15:05.you feeling today? Very well. Diagnosed with terminal lung cancer

:15:06. > :15:14.she did not think twice abott taking part in research. I had half of my

:15:15. > :15:21.long removed and it was OK for two years then it came back in both

:15:22. > :15:27.lungs. This drug has extenddd her life. I would not be here whthout

:15:28. > :15:37.this drug. It seems to have destroyed cancer nodules. It is not

:15:38. > :15:44.for all lung cancers, it sedms to work on some cell receptors which

:15:45. > :15:50.have a particular genetic mttation. They treat the cancer by working on

:15:51. > :15:59.certain cells and limiting their ability to grow. We were thd highest

:16:00. > :16:05.recruiter throughout the East Midlands to all lung cancer trials.

:16:06. > :16:12.Agents often get access to treatments many years beford they

:16:13. > :16:19.are available on the NHS. The couple are now making the most of what they

:16:20. > :16:24.see as extra time. We have gone from borrowed time to enjoying the time

:16:25. > :16:29.we have borrowed and it is getting more and more. I am enjoying being

:16:30. > :16:35.here and hope to be here a bit longer. We hope so. Good to stay

:16:36. > :16:39.well as well. There's a big knit in the vicinity ` and it's not Maurice.

:16:40. > :16:55.No, knitters in Nottinghamshire are being encouraged to take part in the

:16:56. > :16:58.BBC Radio Nottingham Big Poppy Knit. 11,000 poppies are needed to mark

:16:59. > :17:02.each of the 11,000 Nottingh`mshire men who died during the Gre`t War.

:17:03. > :17:08.Our cameras went along to fhlm one speed`knitter taking part in

:17:09. > :17:12.Nottingham earlier today. I am doing a crochet flower today. The patterns

:17:13. > :17:22.are available on our Facebook for free. It is a simple pattern.

:17:23. > :17:32.Anybody that crochets to do it. You want some double net will, `nything

:18:33. > :18:35.rupturing his anterior cruchate ligament in his left knee. The

:18:36. > :18:42.21`year`old suffered the injury on Tuesday during the friendly against

:18:43. > :18:45.Zenit St Petersburg. Thorne only signed a four`year contract with the

:18:46. > :18:48.Rams on Saturday and head coach Steve McClaren admits it's ` massive

:18:49. > :18:51.blow. Staying with football and Leicester City have arrived in

:20:01. > :20:05.case for exclusion `` inclusion in that squad. Now onto the first day

:24:06. > :24:13.This is such a great area. We have fantastic products in Stilton cheese

:24:14. > :24:19.and bought pies. It seemed `n obvious choice to bring the group up

:24:20. > :24:26.here. This is about sending them away with the memory of herd in

:24:27. > :24:30.Melton Mowbray. We are right at the top of the good producing chain You
