:00:13. > :00:15.And now the news for the East Midlands, I'm Maurice Flynn.

:00:16. > :00:18.First tonight, East Midlands Today's been told that several men have now

:00:19. > :00:20.been arrested on suspicion of raping children at care homes.

:00:21. > :00:22.It follows dozens of historhc allegations of abuse centring around

:00:23. > :00:25.Our Social Affairs Correspondent, Jeremy Ball's been following

:00:26. > :00:38.the information and told me about the scale of the investigathon.

:00:39. > :00:57.It is one of the largest police enquiries for several years for

:00:58. > :01:02.local police. Residents at least would say they have suffered abuse.

:01:03. > :01:05.James is one of them and he says he was gang raped and that when he

:01:06. > :01:12.tried to complain, he was not believed. I break down sometimes,

:01:13. > :01:19.when I feel a bit down and hf I have had a drink, I am even worsd. At

:01:20. > :01:25.night time, I wake up and even though I am on sleeping tablets I

:01:26. > :01:30.still wake up with nightmards. How difficult is this investigation

:01:31. > :01:34.proving? It has been really complex and that is because some of these

:01:35. > :01:39.allegations go back more th`n 4 years and that makes it difficult to

:01:40. > :01:45.call operate details of where abuse took place and who carried ht out. I

:01:46. > :01:50.am told that ten men have bden arrested, two of those men `re still

:01:51. > :01:56.being arrested on suspicion of rape and they have been released on bail.

:01:57. > :01:59.A third suspect has died since he was questioned by police. This

:02:00. > :02:03.investigation is still far from over.

:02:04. > :02:05.Thieves have ransacked the home of a 71 year old woman, who's

:02:06. > :02:09.They've stolen thousand of pounds of jewellery belonging to

:02:10. > :02:11.Her family say they feel sh`ttered by the burglary

:02:12. > :02:26.The devastating chaos left by burglars who broke into the home of

:02:27. > :02:32.Naseem Moghal while she was being treated in hospital for terlinal

:02:33. > :02:37.cancer. While my mother was at weakest point in hospital, we did

:02:38. > :02:41.not... In the short time we were looking after the house, we did not

:02:42. > :02:47.protect the house and we have let her down. Naseem Moghal esc`ped from

:02:48. > :02:53.Uganda bringing with her at the jewellery which was in the family

:02:54. > :02:57.for 100 years. She has workdd tirelessly for everything she owns

:02:58. > :03:03.and worked until early this year until she was admitted to hospital

:03:04. > :03:09.four months ago. Everything in this house, she has paid for through

:03:10. > :03:14.working in a factory. For a very long time. This is a callous crime

:03:15. > :03:19.committed by individuals who have shown no regard to the feelhngs of

:03:20. > :03:24.this family. They broke in here ransacked it and stole a large

:03:25. > :03:29.amount of the wedding and Asian jewellery and cash. That is why

:03:30. > :03:36.police will do everything they can to bring these people to justice.

:03:37. > :03:41.This sewing machine was tipped over, pits were broken off. They have not

:03:42. > :03:45.told their mother about the break`in, they say it would destroy

:03:46. > :03:49.her. The jewellery is worth thousands of pounds, but her son

:03:50. > :03:54.says the sentimental value hs priceless.

:03:55. > :03:57.The family of a four year old boy from Nottingham who died two

:03:58. > :03:59.days after being discharged from hospital say they want answdrs.

:04:00. > :04:01.Harry Procko from St Ann's died last month.

:04:02. > :04:03.His parents are now calling for an urgent review

:04:04. > :04:06.into the care he received at the Queen's Medical Centre.

:04:07. > :04:08.The hospital says there is a multi`agency investigation

:04:09. > :04:18.A man who denies murder got his own family to flee

:04:19. > :04:21.from their home just hours before the house, two doors away,

:04:22. > :04:24.was set on fire in a botched revenge attack that killed four people.

:04:25. > :04:26.The fire at Spinney Hill in Leicester killed a mother

:04:27. > :04:30.Today Abdul Hakim told a cotrt he feared he'd get the blame, `s he

:04:31. > :04:33.was at the scene when sports coach Antoin Akpom was fatally st`bbed.

:04:34. > :04:45.Severn Trent Water says it's cut the number of water leaks in the

:04:46. > :04:51.And one Derby city councillor has called on the company to also tackle

:04:52. > :04:59.A major water leak here in Leicester.

:05:00. > :05:07.It was being treated this morning within hours of being reported.

:05:08. > :05:19.It is still losing a quarter of the company's supplies everyday.

:05:20. > :05:26.We try to maintain a contintous supply to our customers.

:05:27. > :05:31.We have over 46,000 kilometres of pipework in the region.

:05:32. > :05:34.With the resources we have we can only cover a small amount at any

:05:35. > :05:45.one time so we rely on customers to notify us of any they sed.

:05:46. > :05:48.Another water leak at a flash flood last weekend caused

:05:49. > :05:53.There is a storm drain under the road here

:05:54. > :05:56.which has obviously collapsdd and caused all this to come up with

:05:57. > :06:13.One of the local councillors is worried that they are not preventing

:06:14. > :06:18.problems caused by the intense weather. They do not have a good

:06:19. > :06:23.record on fixing leaks, but if they are focusing on that at the expense

:06:24. > :06:28.of major infrastructure, thdn there is a problem, because this causes

:06:29. > :06:33.major problems. Severn Trent Water says flash flooding is another

:06:34. > :06:35.challenge and it is investing in larger pipes in order to cope with

:06:36. > :06:40.the volume of rainwater. To sport, and it's been the first

:06:41. > :06:43.day of competition proper at Derby's Adam Peaty just missed out

:06:44. > :06:47.on a medal in the pool, but there was silver for a couple of

:06:48. > :07:05.Loughborough swimmers in thd relay. Fran Halsall and Amy Smith were in

:07:06. > :07:10.the England team which won Silver in the freestyle relay setting a new

:07:11. > :07:15.British record. It was the longest time of my life. I think we did a

:07:16. > :07:20.good job. We tried to get ott there with the Australians and we knew

:07:21. > :07:29.they would be fast. We did ` good job. I think we did a good job. We

:07:30. > :07:34.knew from the start we would be thereabouts and it was about riding

:07:35. > :07:40.the waves a little bit and doing what we could. We did our bdst and

:07:41. > :07:47.we knew it would be really hard We clung on and did what we cotld. This

:07:48. > :07:53.swimmer qualified for the fhnals of the backstroke after finishhng

:07:54. > :08:00.second in his heat. Adam Pe`ty finished fourth in his 200m

:08:01. > :08:08.breaststroke final. The Scottish winners won gold and silver. There

:08:09. > :08:13.were wins for the men's and women's hockey team. Nicola White sdaled the

:08:14. > :08:17.win over Wales. It was nice to get on the scoresheet. It was the first

:08:18. > :08:23.game of the Commonwealth Gales, it can be nerve`wracking, but we

:08:24. > :08:27.applied ourselves. Elsewherd, Nick Matthew easily won his openhng game

:08:28. > :08:40.in the squash, but he is thd opening champion. Here is the weathdr.

:08:41. > :08:46.The warm weather is set to continue into the weekend. Lots of hot

:08:47. > :08:51.sunshine tomorrow in the afternoon, but for now, clear skies at the

:08:52. > :08:54.moment, but like the last fdw nights, we will see low clotds

:08:55. > :08:59.filling in from the North as we head through the night and we ard likely

:09:00. > :09:03.to have missed around in pl`ces but it will be muddy with minimtm

:09:04. > :09:09.temperatures of 16 degrees. Where we have that low cloud, it will be slow

:09:10. > :09:18.to clear, but eventually, once it does, we will have long bright sunny

:09:19. > :09:21.spells and a bit of Fairweather proud, but in the sunshine, hot with

:09:22. > :09:26.a high of 27 degrees. Saturday is the last of the very warm d`ys,

:09:27. > :09:29.plenty of warm sunshine. If you look at the outlook, it will be cooler

:09:30. > :09:51.from Sunday. Now is getting too much for many people.

:09:52. > :09:57.By Sunday, the temp will be cooler than today. Tonight, another warm

:09:58. > :10:08.and comfortable night for sleeping.
