:00:00. > :00:15.northern parts of the UK. Not great news for the closing ceremony.

:00:16. > :00:44.You're watching East Midlands Today with Anne Davies and me, Dolinic

:00:45. > :00:51.Heale. Tonight: Nottingham has been raised for its ambitious

:00:52. > :01:00.house`building programme. And 7 years on veterans remember

:01:01. > :01:08.Britain's first jet fighter. A modern inquiry is underway `fter a

:01:09. > :01:15.Sydney old girl was found ddad. Good evening and welcome to the

:01:16. > :01:19.programme. A 23`year`old wolan has been arrested on suspicion of murder

:01:20. > :01:22.following the death of a 7`xear`old girl. Police were called to a flat

:01:23. > :01:29.in Bestwood Park early this morning, our reporter Geeta Pendse is there

:01:30. > :01:39.now. Geeta, what do we know? Good evening. Police were called here

:01:40. > :01:46.this morning at half past fhve. It was over concern for a Child. A

:01:47. > :01:51.23`year`old woman has been `rrested on suspicion of murder and the 9

:01:52. > :01:58.Europe man on suspicion of `ssault. Neighbours understandably fdlt too

:01:59. > :02:02.distressed to speak on camera but they told me what it felt lhke to

:02:03. > :02:09.wake up this morning and find a flurry of police activity on their

:02:10. > :02:17.street. On hearing the reason why there were these and an ambtlance

:02:18. > :02:20.they were very distressed. One woman told me she had been trying all

:02:21. > :02:28.afternoon since hearing abott the girl's death. The 23 year women and

:02:29. > :02:34.47`year`old man who have bedn arrested remain in custody pending

:02:35. > :02:37.further investigations and ` postmortem examination is expected

:02:38. > :02:40.tomorrow at the latest. Next tonight, a damning review h`s

:02:41. > :02:43.revealed that almost 100 people received unacceptable care hn

:02:44. > :02:53.hospital or in the communitx in the days before they died. In some cases

:02:54. > :02:55.patients were resuscitated when they'd asked not to be. Health care

:02:56. > :03:03.bosses in Leicestershire have apologised and say changes `re being

:03:04. > :03:09.made. Helen Astle reports. The report makes for difficult reading.

:03:10. > :03:12.The records of almost 1400 patients who died up to June 2014 were looked

:03:13. > :05:23.at and the results were shocking. an inner city allotment to flourish.

:05:24. > :05:25.Police have handed over horticultural equipment to `llotment

:05:26. > :05:32.holders in Nottingham, equipment they've seized from cannabis

:05:33. > :05:39.growers. A prison officer's been treated in hospital after an inmate

:05:40. > :05:44.bit off part of his ear. It's the latest in a series of attacks at the

:05:45. > :05:48.jail in Nottingham. It comes as new national figures reveal a strge in

:05:49. > :05:51.assaults on prison staff. For more, here's our Social Affairs Affairs

:05:52. > :05:55.Correspondent, Jeremy Ball. What more can you tell us about this

:05:56. > :06:00.latest attack? Details are still being investigated. But we know that

:06:01. > :06:04.police were called to the j`il yesterday morning, after an officer

:06:05. > :06:07.was assaulted. That officer's still receiving medical treatment, after

:06:08. > :06:11.being released from hospital. This afternoon we've confirmed that part

:06:12. > :06:14.of his ear was bitten off. @nd the Prison Officers' Association told me

:06:15. > :06:17.it's the latest in a string of assaults, by inmates who ard due to

:06:18. > :06:22.be deported. The reason? Well, they know they'll be prosecuted. And

:06:23. > :06:25.they're so desperate to avohd deportation, that they'd prdfer to

:06:26. > :06:33.stay in jail. What are the Prison Service saying? Well, they've sent

:06:34. > :06:36.us a statement. That says staff safety's a priority and that anyone

:06:37. > :06:41.who attacks them can expect severe consequences. But officers `t

:06:42. > :06:48.Nottingham have been raising concerns for some time. Thex held

:06:49. > :06:52.this protest more than two xears ago after a number of serious assaults.

:06:53. > :06:56.This victim had to be medic`lly retired after losing the sight in

:06:57. > :07:02.one eye. Now the POA claims the situation's getting worse. @nd

:07:03. > :07:05.they're blaming overcrowding, and staffing levels. And is this

:07:06. > :07:10.happening at other prisons? Yes Today we've had national figures

:07:11. > :07:13.from the Ministry of Justicd. There were 370 serious assaults on prison

:07:14. > :07:20.officers across England and Wales last year. That's the highest on

:07:21. > :07:22.record. The government's bedn talking about the prison service

:07:23. > :07:28.facing "challenges," while the opposition's talking about `

:07:29. > :07:43."crisis". And just last weekend there was a serious disturb`nce at

:07:44. > :07:47.Nottinghamshire's Ranby Prison. Within the last hour police have

:07:48. > :07:51.told as a body has been found any Nottingham factory which burned down

:07:52. > :08:01.last night. Police were called to the works building in base word at

:08:02. > :08:07.11 o'clock last night. Investigators are now looking to find the cause

:08:08. > :08:12.and identify the body. This morning the damage to this Nottingh`m

:08:13. > :08:16.clothing factory became cle`r. Overnight, when the blaze w`s at its

:08:17. > :08:24.height there were 50 firefighters here. There were some night shift

:08:25. > :08:28.workers at the nearby superlarket who were evacuated. People nearby

:08:29. > :08:37.were told to close doors and windows as smoke poured out. I am bdlow It

:08:38. > :08:42.was just eyelevel with this factory and the flames were above that. It

:08:43. > :08:52.looked as if it was getting quite fears. Police confirmed tod`y a body

:08:53. > :08:58.was found inside the factorx and it has yet to be identified. There are

:08:59. > :09:05.no indications yet as to how the fire started. There will be an

:09:06. > :09:10.ongoing investigation to get to the bottom of the cause. The order of

:09:11. > :09:16.the factory has been in Indha but I am told they will mow fly b`ck to

:09:17. > :09:25.Nottingham. This family bushness stooge here for more than three

:09:26. > :09:28.decades. A 32`year`old man has been sentenced to life in prison for

:09:29. > :09:31.stabbing his ex girlfriend's new partner to death at their home in

:09:32. > :09:34.Hinckley. James Burton from Earl Shilton stabbed Matthew Dunn 29

:09:35. > :09:37.times at the house in Factory Road in January whilst his former

:09:38. > :09:41.girlfriend and her 14`month old son were in the property. Burton will

:09:42. > :09:47.serve a minimum term of 30 xears in jail. He was found not guilty of a

:09:48. > :09:49.charge of threats to kill. Dast Midlands Ambulance Service has made

:09:50. > :09:55."significant improvements" `ccording to the NHS Trust Development

:09:56. > :09:58.Authority. Criticism of EMAS over response times, patient card and

:09:59. > :10:02.leadership led to an increase in monitoring by the authority. But it

:10:03. > :10:05.says the service has since lade progress in improving care puality

:10:06. > :10:10.and services. EMAS bosses s`y it's a "step in the right direction".

:10:11. > :10:16.Derby`based aero engine makdr Rolls`Royce has reported a fall in

:10:17. > :10:20.half`yearly pre`tax profits. It s blaming shrinking government defence

:10:21. > :10:25.spending and what it calls "currency headwinds". In a statement hssued to

:10:26. > :10:31.the London Stock Exchange this morning, the company said that in

:10:32. > :10:40.the six months to the end of June it made ?644 million, that's a 20% fall

:10:41. > :10:45.on the same period last year. A factory that's been a familx

:10:46. > :11:02.business for more than 30 ydars has been destroyed by a fire in

:11:03. > :11:06.Nottingham. Nottingham has been praised for its ambitious council

:11:07. > :11:11.house building programme. The city is creating 400 new homes over the

:11:12. > :11:15.next four years as part of ` major regeneration project. Today, the

:11:16. > :11:20.shadow housing minister toured the biggest development site at Lenton

:11:21. > :11:23.and urged the construction hndustry to pick up the pace of its building

:11:24. > :11:25.programme. Labour's predicthng a massive shortage of houses by 2 20.

:11:26. > :11:28.Sarah Teale reports. It is the largest council house buildhng

:11:29. > :11:32.project in a generation. Five tower blocks which stood years since the

:11:33. > :11:37.60s are being pulled down and replaced with 140 properties. The

:11:38. > :11:41.view from the top shows just how constantly things are changhng. One

:11:42. > :11:47.week ago that pile of rubbld down there was the tower block the same

:11:48. > :11:50.as that one. The residents were moved into this purpose`built

:11:51. > :11:56.housing accommodation for elderly people. The local MP said she would

:11:57. > :12:02.like to see more projects lhke this to meet growing demand. Labour said

:12:03. > :12:07.there would be a shortfall of homes, 100,000 of those in the East

:12:08. > :12:16.Midlands. They reckon the average house price year will rise by 3 ,000

:12:17. > :12:26.two ?212,000. They are pledging to get 200,000 homes each year bill to

:12:27. > :12:33.solve the crisis. I believe the construction industry can gdar up

:12:34. > :12:37.and move up a level. There hs no reason that with some intervention

:12:38. > :12:43.from government we can get the market working again so we can get a

:12:44. > :12:55.supply of homes which meets the man. On this site alone apprenticeships

:12:56. > :13:03.are being offered. `` meets demand. It is the big boost for the

:13:04. > :13:12.community and it takes me ott of the box from university. This whll be

:13:13. > :13:16.finished by next November. Rolls`Royce says it's genuinely

:13:17. > :13:21.sorry after some of its workers were exposed to radioactive material when

:13:22. > :13:24.a piece of equipment broke. The company's nuclear arm has admitted

:13:25. > :13:28.breaching environmental and health and safety rules, but it's denied it

:13:29. > :13:32.acted recklessly. Today, a judge decided to delay passing sentence on

:13:33. > :13:43.the company for several weeks. From Derby Crown Court, Simon Hare

:13:44. > :13:49.reports. This was the equiplent at the centre of the radiation skiers

:13:50. > :13:53.three years ago. Around the size of a small screw and normally found

:13:54. > :14:00.within the end of this road, the deed you are active source fell off

:14:01. > :14:07.during tests. It was later found and handled by four workers at this

:14:08. > :14:14.plant where components for nuclear submarines were being made. One

:14:15. > :14:21.welder wiped it on his clothes as he tried to work out what it w`s. It

:14:22. > :14:29.should normally have been kdpt safely inside this container. The

:14:30. > :14:39.barrister for Rolls`Royce s`ys the firm was genuinely sorry for what

:14:40. > :14:51.had happened. He said the rhsk of workers dying in the future was

:14:52. > :15:05.unlikely. The testing is now carried out at the new facility. Prosecution

:15:06. > :15:21.costs in this case have now run well into six figures and the judge will

:15:22. > :15:35.now have to consider what ldvel any fine will be set at. Sentencing is

:15:36. > :15:47.expected to take place in Sdptember. Leicester City Council could scrap

:15:48. > :15:54.its funding for Park And Ride services. Both Leicester City and

:15:55. > :16:01.Leicestershire County Counchl have been subsidising the servicd for the

:16:02. > :16:08.last 17 years. But the City Council's support is now under

:16:09. > :16:15.threat because of cost savings it's having to make. Campaigners in

:16:16. > :16:25.Newark have criticised plans to remove the CT scanner from the

:16:26. > :16:38.town's hospital. Managers s`y nearly half of all CT scans carried out at

:16:39. > :16:48.Newark are on patients who live closer to King's Mill Hospital.

:16:49. > :17:00.It'll put the second scanner there and Newark will get a mobild service

:17:01. > :17:14.instead. Hospital campaigners say it's another blow, following on from

:17:15. > :17:23.the loss of the town's accident and emergency department. Peopld who

:17:24. > :17:35.abuse Blue badges to park illegally in Nottingham are being warned they

:17:36. > :17:47.could be fined up to ?1,000. The City Council has launched a fresh

:17:48. > :17:57.crackdown on motorists who display borrowed, expired or fake Blue

:17:58. > :18:07.badges. The council says fr`udulent use is an increasing problel.

:18:08. > :18:18.Allotment holders in Nottingham have taken possession of a large amount

:18:19. > :18:26.of cannabis growing equipment, but for entirely innocent horticultural

:18:27. > :18:37.reasons. The equipment's cole from the police. They confiscated it

:18:38. > :18:48.during raids on cannabis growing operations. Today it was all handed

:18:49. > :18:58.over to grateful gardeners `nd growers at St Ann's in the City

:18:59. > :19:06.Simon Ward reports. It is ghving something back to the community It

:19:07. > :19:16.comes from cannabis growers and why not give something back. It is

:19:17. > :19:28.community engagement and a good was it of outlook for something that is

:19:29. > :19:38.quite negative in the community The donation is warmly welcomed from the

:19:39. > :19:53.charity which runs the allotments. When we were asked if we wotld like

:19:54. > :20:08.to take it it was a resoundhng yes. Hopefully a lot of it will be passed

:20:09. > :20:21.around to the gardeners on the site here. Previously it would h`ve been

:20:22. > :20:34.destroyed but thanks to this scheme it can be used for legal gardening

:20:35. > :20:48.purposes instead. Still to come Looking back to the dawn of the jet

:20:49. > :20:56.fighter. 70 years ago the Gloster Meteor, powered by an engind

:20:57. > :21:02.developed in Leicestershire, flew operationally for the first time.

:21:03. > :21:20.Now over to sport. Plenty of the feel`good factor in

:21:21. > :21:27.Nottingham Forest. Most of ht going to just one man. In the back of your

:21:28. > :21:31.men, there's that little bit of nervousness and the nervousness is

:21:32. > :21:35.probably what we all thrive on. He said the new signings and hdre's not

:21:36. > :21:40.done yet. I like to look after the German was much money as it was

:21:41. > :21:43.mine. I have to go to the owners of the film `` the football cltb and

:21:44. > :21:46.say that I think I have valte for money for the football club and say

:21:47. > :21:53.that I think I have value for money for every player. Promotion is their

:21:54. > :21:56.ambition, getting there is ` challenge. You cannot just have a

:21:57. > :22:06.team of getting in the Premher League without putting the building

:22:07. > :22:17.blocks in place. If I was s`t on the terraces, I would want a manager who

:22:18. > :22:26.was passionate. Boxing and he wanted one last fight in Vegas. He may get

:22:27. > :22:29.his wish. Talks are under w`y with an American ever to pay`per`view

:22:30. > :22:37.fight to be staged at the MGM Grand in January. Discussions are well

:22:38. > :22:42.underway and a decision shotld be made in the next few days. Hn

:22:43. > :22:47.cricket, there is action in the 50 overs. Last night, Nottingh`mshire

:22:48. > :22:59.celebrated in Cardiff as thdy continued their unbeaten st`rt.

:23:00. > :23:08.Derbyshire chasing Worcestershire. Leicestershire's game startdd at

:23:09. > :23:16.2pm. Their total, a. `` 142. That is all in sport. More intimate's late

:23:17. > :23:20.golden. Finally tonight, before the weather, veterans have been

:23:21. > :23:25.remembering Britain was my first jet fighter which first flew

:23:26. > :23:33.operationally 70 years ago. The Gloster meteor used engines

:23:34. > :23:41.developed in Leicestershire. `` co`star meteor.

:23:42. > :23:52.The first models used jet engines tested in the old lady would works

:23:53. > :24:06.and work. This man from Wigston worked there is a 24`year`old in the

:24:07. > :24:11.1940s. This man also worked there. He had to make the blades for the

:24:12. > :24:16.revolutionary engine. It was poured into this mould and once it was set,

:24:17. > :24:28.it was turned over and I had the job of breaking off the malt. `` mould.

:24:29. > :24:41.It was fast enough to countdr Hitler was Mike Best. `` decanter Hepler's

:24:42. > :24:50.best. There were only two ahrcraft that good. The move dawn to these

:24:51. > :25:00.works. `` Lee moved on to these new works. This engine possibly powered

:25:01. > :25:11.an original meet you. We all thought that what we were doing was

:25:12. > :25:21.worthwhile. The evidence thhs year. `` the evidence is secure.

:25:22. > :25:30.A lot of rain in the south of our region this afternoon.

:25:31. > :25:32.There certainly was spot on the thunderstorms seem to set a little

:25:33. > :25:44.further If you are playing cricket tonight,

:25:45. > :25:52.does not look too bad. Tomorrow a lot of cloud around and a scattering

:25:53. > :26:00.of showers. For now, let us look back on the month. It has bden warm

:26:01. > :26:03.and sunny but not as warm as last July. It is the eighth month in a

:26:04. > :27:01.row that temperatures have been higher than average.

:27:02. > :27:02.into the afternoon. The rain then such to stop into the weekend. If
