:00:00. > :00:16.First tonight ` a police inspector from Leicestershire's been

:00:17. > :00:18.chosen to reform the way th`t forces across the country use controversial

:00:19. > :00:40.Communities will tell us th`t it has a damaging effect. We need to get it

:00:41. > :00:45.right every time. Also tonight that project that could save the taxpayer

:00:46. > :00:59.millions. And the injured soldier who was

:01:00. > :01:04.warned he might never walk `gain. And as business numbers in case we

:01:05. > :01:05.look at how to list such actions are finding new ways of drawing people

:01:06. > :01:16.in. First tonight ` a police

:01:17. > :01:18.inspector from Leicestershire's been chosen to reform the way th`t forces

:01:19. > :01:21.across the country use controversial Nick Glynn has been seconded to the

:01:22. > :01:40.College of Policing, after the Home Secretary said ethnic minorhties

:01:41. > :01:42.were being targeted unfairlx. Inspector Glynn's been speaking to

:01:43. > :01:54.our Social Affairs Correspondent, When he has not in uniform he has

:01:55. > :02:41.been targeted by members of a neighbouring force. We know we need

:02:42. > :02:45.to make changes. And Derbyshire you are almost three

:02:46. > :02:48.times more likely to be targeted if you are black. People from other

:02:49. > :03:04.ethnic minorities were less likely to be searched. My friend got

:03:05. > :03:16.searched. He found that upsdtting. When I got stopped and searched it

:03:17. > :03:25.made me not want to join thd police. I put myself in their shoes. Now

:03:26. > :03:32.every front`line officer is being trained to use stop and search

:03:33. > :03:39.powers fairly. It has a damaging effect on trust in

:03:40. > :03:44.the police. The Government hs watching stop and search closely. If

:03:45. > :03:57.figures do not improve the Home Secretary says she will change the

:03:58. > :04:02.law. Overall you stop and search figures

:04:03. > :04:05.have come down. But you are still more likely to be stopped in

:04:06. > :04:33.Leicestershire if you are black and if you are white. The use of stop

:04:34. > :04:40.and search is under scrutinx. We are working to improve the way we use

:04:41. > :04:45.our stop and search powers. Most stop and searches tend to bd on

:04:46. > :04:50.suspicion of possessing drugs. Serious as those offences are there

:04:51. > :04:55.more pressing priorities such as burglary and violent crime?

:04:56. > :05:01.Drug`related criminality is a pressing priority for a number of

:05:02. > :05:05.communities. Over 50% of stop and search is around targeting drugs

:05:06. > :05:15.related incidents. The work that is being done, of which we are part of,

:05:16. > :05:18.is aimed at improving the w`y we target those areas that are causing

:05:19. > :05:24.most concern to our communities Is there a feeling that it hs worth

:05:25. > :05:32.stopping black people because they are more likely to commit crime I

:05:33. > :05:38.have two C, completely not. The view is about using intelligence to

:05:39. > :05:44.target areas. To make sure that we can protect our communities and

:05:45. > :05:48.targets patrols in the most effective way. I completely disputes

:05:49. > :05:55.that. You can reassure the black community that they are not being

:05:56. > :06:00.picked on. No particular colmunity is being picked on. But we have

:06:01. > :06:13.improved massively. We are tsing our powers of stop and search, `nd we

:06:14. > :06:25.are working together with community groups, to get this much better

:06:26. > :06:27.Plans to expand a scheme that supports hundreds of troubldd

:06:28. > :06:30.families in Leicestershire could save the taxpayer up to ?50 million.

:06:31. > :06:32.The County Council says it will make the saving by providing

:06:33. > :06:35.targeted practical help and support to families who feel trapped.

:06:36. > :06:36.And with more Government funding coming,

:06:37. > :06:51.thousands more families look set to benefit, as Victoria Hicks reports.

:06:52. > :07:01.This person felt there was no weight at the end of the town now coping

:07:02. > :07:17.with the behaviour of her children. My son is suffering. Every day is a

:07:18. > :07:24.learning curve. It is playthme at this sure start centre. This person

:07:25. > :07:39.sees her support worker is helping them for the future. We are looking

:07:40. > :07:55.at the entire picture. Beforehand it was like I was trapped. I h`ve been

:07:56. > :07:59.taken away from that. The Government estimates vulnerable familids in

:08:00. > :08:10.this region cost the taxpaydr ? 58 million per year. We believd, at the

:08:11. > :08:23.Government has agreed, that we will see a minimum of ?50 million when

:08:24. > :08:27.this scheme is fully operathonal. With more Government funding on its

:08:28. > :08:32.way Leicestershire county council said it had hopes to help 2700 more

:08:33. > :08:39.families. A man's been charged with

:08:40. > :08:42.the murder of a Derbyshire ledical Neil Dalton from Ambergate `nd Aidan

:08:43. > :08:46.Brunger were stabbed to death two Five Malaysian men were arrdsted

:08:47. > :08:50.at the time. A 23`year`old fishmonger has now

:08:51. > :08:52.been charged and faces The other four will appear

:08:53. > :08:57.as prosecution witnesses. Travellers have moved onto fields

:08:58. > :09:00.at the Boots headquarters shte Police were called out this morning

:09:01. > :09:05.when about 30 people arrived It's estimated 25

:09:06. > :09:12.caravans are there. A Boots spokesman says the

:09:13. > :09:14.company's working with the police They said he might never walk

:09:15. > :09:24.again or father children. Now ex`soldier and proud dad

:09:25. > :09:26.Daniel Whittingham has been chosen to represent Britain and thd

:09:27. > :09:39.Armed Forces in the Invictus Games. And I will be meeting the pdrson who

:09:40. > :09:50.is a champion. Next tonight, the East Midl`nds

:09:51. > :09:52.world famous specialist intdnsive care unit ECMO may have to be split

:09:53. > :09:55.across two hospital sites. It's the latest radical ide` being

:09:56. > :09:58.looked at by hospital bosses in the long running fight to keep

:09:59. > :10:17.children's heart surgery in ECMO, it is an artificial lhne. It

:10:18. > :10:24.has made an impact in the world of intensive care. No bosses are

:10:25. > :10:36.considering whether to move this to the loyal of Germany. Pars to the

:10:37. > :10:41.Royal infirmary. It might boost Leicester 's chances

:10:42. > :10:47.of keeping children's heart surgery which is being looked at as part of

:10:48. > :10:51.a new National review. Now the bosses are under pressure to provide

:10:52. > :11:05.all children services on a single site. Heart surgery may movd to the

:11:06. > :11:10.Royal infirmary. This person has had three hdart

:11:11. > :11:22.operations. He parents are tsed to uncertainty over the future of the

:11:23. > :11:32.service. If the way of retahning some level of service is to combine

:11:33. > :11:38.two units to meet the high standards then that has got to be a positive.

:11:39. > :11:54.But this health campaigner says Lester does not get what it needs.

:11:55. > :11:55.Few experts expect the revidw to be finished this side of the gdneral

:11:56. > :12:01.election. Four new schools will open hn

:12:02. > :12:04.Lincolnshire in September bdcause of The county council says it'll be

:12:05. > :12:08.creating 1,000 extra school Other schools are expanding

:12:09. > :12:12.their sites to cope with Hundreds of police are breaching

:12:13. > :12:17.social media guidelines ` including One constable was found to have

:12:18. > :12:22.posted confidential information on Facebook

:12:23. > :12:24.about a planned police oper`tion. A staff member also wrote ndgative

:12:25. > :12:31.comments about another oper`tion. The force says staff are tr`ined how

:12:32. > :12:34.to use social media in a responsible way, and mhsuse can

:12:35. > :12:40.lead to officers being dismhssed. The chief executive of the

:12:41. > :12:42.Peak National Park Authoritx says the last four years have bedn

:12:43. > :12:44.particularly hard because Jim Dixon is standing down

:12:45. > :12:51.after 11 years. The authority's grant

:12:52. > :12:53.from the government has been cut Mr Dixon will be taking

:12:54. > :12:57.on a number of different roles Rail commuters in the East Lidlands

:12:58. > :13:05.are being urged to back a protest Trade unionists took

:13:06. > :13:09.their campaign to freeze fares to And a little earlier this evening,

:13:10. > :13:13.the campaign headed to Notthngham. Our Political Editor John

:13:14. > :13:15.Hess is outside Nottingham's John, has the TUC campaign

:13:16. > :13:41.had any impact so far? Union members were leafleting

:13:42. > :13:46.commuters in Derby. They drx to catch the rush hour. The thhng was

:13:47. > :13:52.to highlight the impact of the proposed annual real increases. This

:13:53. > :14:00.campaign is an attempt to pressurise Chancellor of the Exchequer in his

:14:01. > :14:09.autumn statement to announcd a cap on proposed increases in thd cost of

:14:10. > :14:17.everyday travel by really. This trade unionists struggled with

:14:18. > :14:25.his flag, but the message w`s clear. Prices has gone at twice thd rate of

:14:26. > :14:31.wages. People cannot use thd real reason is there a preferred method

:14:32. > :14:38.of travel. Season tickets and many peak

:14:39. > :14:45.services are regulated by the Department of transport. It is

:14:46. > :14:51.unfortunate but somebody has 2p for the railways to be maintaindd.

:14:52. > :15:01.Everything goes up every ye`r. It is too expensive. Look at the dxample

:15:02. > :15:09.of Italy and Germany. It is so much cheaper. According to the Mhdlands

:15:10. > :15:20.TUC a season ticket for less that Nottingham will rise by ?65. Nothing

:15:21. > :15:27.to Derby, and increase of ?49. The TUC says overall ticket prices will

:15:28. > :15:37.be 25% more expensive than four years ago. This cannot go on. But

:15:38. > :15:40.the Government argues that the ticket price increases are finding

:15:41. > :15:50.an expanding and improving service. If you bought a season tickdt from

:15:51. > :15:53.Nottingham to Derby four ye`rs ago, you would have to find an additional

:15:54. > :15:56.?264 for that season ticket now East Midlands Trains tonight said it

:15:57. > :15:58.wouldn't directly comment on today's proposed fare increases,

:15:59. > :16:01.saying it's the Government that Next tonight,

:16:02. > :16:08.Daniel Whittingham suffered horrific injuries when he was blown tp

:16:09. > :16:11.by a bomb in Afghanistan. As a result, part

:16:12. > :16:14.of his leg had to be amputated. Doctors said he may never

:16:15. > :16:16.walk again, or have children. He's now been selected

:16:17. > :16:20.for the British Armed Forces team He spoke to Jo Healey at his home

:16:21. > :16:37.in Nottingham. His achievements have been lany But

:16:38. > :16:51.his baby is top of the list. That is because five years `go he

:16:52. > :17:02.was serving in Afghanistan. Doctors told him he would never walk green.

:17:03. > :17:11.`` would never walk again. These were his first steps with his

:17:12. > :17:25.first prosthetic leg. I thought if I could run, I could go

:17:26. > :17:40.climbing. It has taken him far. That was a proud moment. Next month it is

:17:41. > :17:49.the Invictus Games. To be sdlected to represent your country is an

:17:50. > :17:53.honour. Even more awesome is the future he

:17:54. > :18:05.can look forward to with his daughter. To be able to pass it onto

:18:06. > :18:07.her so that she can the samd experiences that I have onlx got one

:18:08. > :18:29.leg, Tourism here is on the up,

:18:30. > :18:33.with this region seeing the third largest increase

:18:34. > :18:35.in visitor numbers in the country. In football, all our league

:18:36. > :18:39.clubs are in action tonight. Notts County and Mansfield both have

:18:40. > :18:42.another home match ` but it's a long Reds manager Stuart Pearce has been

:18:43. > :18:46.praising Forest fans' support. The best coverage, as ever,

:18:47. > :18:49.on your BBC Local Radio station Radios Nottingham

:18:50. > :19:20.and Derby are all over it. Jeremy Fardy has signed a ndw

:19:21. > :19:32.contract. Stuart Pearce has been pleasing the

:19:33. > :19:38.supporters. We're very grateful and the

:19:39. > :19:49.travelling fans. We need to keep delivering performances.

:19:50. > :19:51.In cricket, Nottinghamshire's Alex Hales has been rewarded

:19:52. > :19:54.for his outstanding form with a call up to the England Ond Day

:20:32. > :20:51.We are ready to go. They have done a great job. They have producdd a

:20:52. > :20:57.fantastic race. I see no re`son why we cannot have a proper racd. You

:20:58. > :21:00.can imagine all these cars on a street circuit. The only thhng

:21:01. > :21:04.missing will be the noise. Eight years ago a Derbyshird

:21:05. > :21:06.mother read Swallows and Am`zons Good decision ` because he's

:21:07. > :21:12.just won a world title. Jeremy Nicholas has

:21:13. > :21:28.been to meet him. On top of the world. Togethdr they

:21:29. > :21:35.make quite a team. We have secured the European and national thtle A

:21:36. > :21:44.sense of relief that we achheved effectively in the end. The journey

:21:45. > :21:54.started eight years ago with a famous book.

:21:55. > :22:01.We came down here for an opdn day. As soon as we were here he was out

:22:02. > :22:11.on the water. We have not looked back since. He has been helped by a

:22:12. > :22:27.trust set up to support young sailors. He took to the watdr like a

:22:28. > :22:34.duck to water. They are nathonal and world champions. Now they are

:22:35. > :22:40.dreaming of the Olympics. You get to go all over the country and

:22:41. > :22:55.represent Great Britain. I would like to go to the Olympics.

:22:56. > :23:02.He is obsessive almost. He puts in hours of practice. Another champion.

:23:29. > :23:30.visit in the country. That's according to a survex

:23:31. > :23:32.by Visit England. It also found more tourist

:23:33. > :23:53.attractions are turning to digital Journey back to the 1600s. Today a

:23:54. > :24:00.production company was capttring the moment. But these dramas ard not

:24:01. > :24:15.designed for the big screen, but instead for our mobile phonds.

:24:16. > :24:29.People can access that trigger image. It is allowing you to make

:24:30. > :24:35.your own trail. They have bden commissioned by the National civil

:24:36. > :24:48.war centre. More places are investing in digital technology 18%

:24:49. > :25:10.of attractions are offering mobile applications. When it comes to paid

:25:11. > :25:31.attractions. Chatsworth house is still top of the list.

:25:32. > :25:41.New additions such Richard HII centre are popular.

:25:42. > :25:44.Back to the set in Derbyshire. The crew are hoping these short films

:25:45. > :25:53.will be another reason that two lists flocked to the East Mhdlands.

:25:54. > :26:03.Bat two lists. Here is the weather.

:26:04. > :26:09.A mixture of sunshine and showers over the past few days.

:26:10. > :26:24.And here are of high pressure to the West. There are some changes over

:26:25. > :26:31.the next 24 hours. It will be a decent day tomorrow.

:26:32. > :26:36.There will be a few showers, but they will be fewer and further

:26:37. > :26:45.between. Even though we will see mord

:26:46. > :26:57.sunshine. We have seen a few showers are today. They are starting to

:26:58. > :27:04.transfer oestrus. `` they are starting to transfer eastwards.

:27:05. > :27:21.These are the temperature is in the towns.

:27:22. > :27:45.In the afternoon the clothes will build again. `` the cloud whll build

:27:46. > :27:49.again. That is all for now. Goodbyd.
