:00:00. > :00:21.An investigation's begun into what's That's all from us.

:00:22. > :00:25.An investigation's begun into what's been termed a "serious incident

:00:26. > :00:28.after a plane caught fire and had to make an emergency landing at

:00:29. > :00:31.East Midlands Airport last night. Passengers reported chaos

:00:32. > :00:35.on board and say doors faildd to open on the Jet2 flight frol Ibiza.

:00:36. > :00:45.Our reporter Tom Brown can tell us more.

:00:46. > :00:49.One passenger told us it was sheer carnage as they tried to get off.

:00:50. > :00:52.Another feared it would burst into flames. It was only as smokd filled

:00:53. > :00:58.the cabin that the panic st`rted and people scrambled to get out. This

:00:59. > :01:02.was taken just after the people had got off of the plane. It shows an

:01:03. > :01:13.emergency slide at the front and the open door open the wing. Thdre was

:01:14. > :01:19.an horrendous smell of burnhng, and electrical smell. We felt wd were

:01:20. > :01:23.trapped, the smell was definitely coming from the back of the plane.

:01:24. > :01:29.That's when people started screaming, get the kids off, we just

:01:30. > :01:33.wanted the doors opened to get out, we all wanted out then. The jet came

:01:34. > :01:38.from Ibiza just after nine o'clock last night. It took two attdmpts to

:01:39. > :01:43.land and when it did smoke started to fill the cabin. 26 fire officers

:01:44. > :01:50.made the way to the plane to help people get out. I thought how are

:01:51. > :01:59.the people on the wings going to get down? The airline said following a

:02:00. > :02:02.safe arrival last night thex had to be evacuated due to a minor

:02:03. > :02:23.electrical problem which led to some smoke in the cabin. I do not think

:02:24. > :02:27.The to help passengers and the air accident investigation Branch is

:02:28. > :02:31.looking into it. Well,

:02:32. > :02:43.earlier we spoke to an aviation safety expert about the inchdent.

:02:44. > :03:04.In the in aviation incidents but for those on board it was a terrifying

:03:05. > :03:09.situation. When on`board yot can see and smell the smoke but in terms of

:03:10. > :03:17.the response, that seemed to be fine. You do get minor electrical

:03:18. > :03:24.fires every week on board ehther planes somewhere in the world. There

:03:25. > :03:32.was another incident involvhng a jet to the craft, should passengers be

:03:33. > :03:39.concerned? They have a high degree of oversight from the aviathon

:03:40. > :03:45.authority, they tend to fly slightly older aircraft which means they have

:03:46. > :03:47.more maintenance issues but in general, if it is a minor problem it

:03:48. > :03:55.is only minor, not life`thrdatening. A pioneering scheme to bring

:03:56. > :03:58.Rolls`Royce know`how into the classroom has been unveiled

:03:59. > :04:01.by the Chancellor of the Exchequer in Derby.

:04:02. > :04:04.The aero`engine maker is to pay for up to 70 teachers to help boost

:04:05. > :04:06.science and technology in state schools.

:04:07. > :04:09.Our Political Editor John Hess can tell us more.

:04:10. > :04:12.Top of the class. The Chancdllor was having lessons in engine buhlding

:04:13. > :04:16.from these pupils today although the classroom had shifted to

:04:17. > :04:20.Rolls`Royce. The company nedds those skills for its future workforce

:04:21. > :04:23.which is why it is paying an educational charity to recrtit and

:04:24. > :04:31.train an extra 75 science tdachers or schools. There have not been

:04:32. > :04:38.enough maths and science graduates, so not

:04:39. > :04:42.enough teachers, so not enotgh to get the next generation studying

:04:43. > :04:47.maths and science. A recent study by Ofsted said the teaching of science

:04:48. > :04:49.was needed to maintain the competitiveness

:04:50. > :04:55.of pupils if Britain was to compete in the world race. Ht was

:04:56. > :05:00.found that science was not ` priority for half of primarx

:05:01. > :05:04.schools. There are also too few girls studxing

:05:05. > :05:08.science and GCSE exams do not test practical skills enough. If you are

:05:09. > :05:11.a kid at school you can be hnspired by what goes on at Rolls`Roxce, look

:05:12. > :05:22.at the incredible technologx behind me. Inspiration certainly btt it is

:05:23. > :05:27.also about funding prioritids. Ten years ago there was a massive debt

:05:28. > :05:31.and the underfunding of scidnce at university. Not enough people taking

:05:32. > :05:34.up physics and less physicists and less mathematicians. Becausd of that

:05:35. > :05:38.you have less teachers going forward. Could these pupils be the

:05:39. > :05:47.science and technology teachers of the future? They could well be!

:05:48. > :05:49.Absolutely! The government says no more

:05:50. > :05:51.cash will be spent trying to keep Nottinghamshire's

:05:52. > :05:54.last deep coal mine open. UK Coal plans to close Thordsby

:05:55. > :05:57.by the end of next year, with the loss of hundreds of jobs.

:05:58. > :06:01.The government's already plddged millions towards a closure plan

:06:02. > :06:08.But the Energy Secretary Ed Davey says state aid to maintain the pit

:06:09. > :06:10.is not the best way forward. A world body`building champhon is

:06:11. > :06:14.recovering tonight after receiving a kidney from his

:06:15. > :06:18.mother in a transplant oper`tion. 34`year`old Daz Ball, from

:06:19. > :06:22.Leicester, has been on dialxsis since his kidneys failed last year.

:06:23. > :06:25.His mother Katrina says she didn't hesitate to donate the organ.

:06:26. > :06:34.The double operation took most of today and was carried out

:06:35. > :06:35.at Leicester General. That's your news. So, it's goodbye

:06:36. > :06:45.from me, but here's your we`ther. The weather was disappointing to

:06:46. > :06:53.date with the cloud proving stubborn in places. It is set to be lostly

:06:54. > :07:00.dry with some bright spells tomorrow. Cloud thick enough tonight

:07:01. > :07:08.to produce a little rain. Low cloud will feed in heading towards dawn.

:07:09. > :07:15.It will not be a cold night with a minimum temperature of 14 Cdlsius. A

:07:16. > :07:23.cloudy and misty start for some Right or sunny intervals. The cloud

:07:24. > :07:28.will improve stubborn in pl`ces We're we do get some sunshine

:07:29. > :07:30.temperatures could peak at 21 Celsius. Improving on Saturday with

:07:31. > :07:33.the weather front cleaving `way temperatures continue to be above

:07:34. > :07:42.average. Now the national outlook.

:07:43. > :07:49.Good evening. Still a hint of summer in the air, temperatures up to 3 or

:07:50. > :07:52.24 for today. Tomorrow, another dry day for many and skies will probably

:07:53. > :07:55.look like this picture behind me. I will show you what the satellite

:07:56. > :07:59.picture looked like today. The reason why I'm showing you this

:08:00. > :08:00.tomorrow the cloud cover will look
