:00:49. > :00:52.of the village has doubled hn the last ten years, so thereford the
:00:53. > :01:03.demand for all sorts of services has increased.

:01:17. > :01:18.First tonight ` work is under way to establhsh what
:01:19. > :01:21.caused Nottinghamshire's biggest fire in a decade.
:01:22. > :01:24.In fewer than five hours, the world's first carbon`nettral
:01:25. > :01:29.laboratory on the Universitx of Nottingham's Jubilee campus had
:01:30. > :01:35.Today investigators began the task of trying to pinpohnt how
:01:36. > :01:41.Our reporter Jo Healey can join us now from the site.
:01:42. > :01:51.What is the latest that you have? Good evening. The irony has clearly
:01:52. > :01:57.not been lost here. This was, as you said, to be the world's first
:01:58. > :02:03.carbon`neutral laboratory and it's gone up in smoke. Today, thd site
:02:04. > :02:05.was deemed safe enough for fire and police investigators to get in there
:02:06. > :02:08.and try to discover the cause. This shows what it was becoling a
:02:09. > :02:17.world beating beacon of a btilding. Instead, overnight,
:02:18. > :02:22.this is what it became. We have been watching it develop
:02:23. > :02:26.over the past six months and yeah it's a bit shocking to see
:02:27. > :02:30.that it's burnt down to the ground. To see what is left
:02:31. > :02:37.of it now is really sad. You can see how charred bits
:02:38. > :02:40.of the building have landed on this roof from the site
:02:41. > :02:44.of the fire over there. The blaze on Friday night could be
:02:45. > :02:48.seen for miles. Buildings under construction are
:02:49. > :02:52.more vulnerable to fire. 60 firefighters brought it tnder
:02:53. > :02:55.control. Thankfully, no`one was hurt
:02:56. > :03:00.and no other buildings destroyed. The initial reaction was ond
:03:01. > :03:04.of shock and horror, really, at this wonderful new building being
:03:05. > :03:08.consumed by flames, but then it was sadness about what had been lost but
:03:09. > :03:12.then immediately a determin`tion to We can't be drawn into
:03:13. > :03:18.whether or not it was suspicious, but at this time I have to dmphasise
:03:19. > :03:21.the scale of this incident was huge, so you can see the devastathon
:03:22. > :03:24.behind us, there was a conshderable It's not something that we can
:03:25. > :03:28.rush into with regard to And investigators are working
:03:29. > :03:34.closely together to do that. While they do, part of Triulph
:03:35. > :03:38.Road remains cordoned off. One business says that's costing him
:03:39. > :03:43.at least ?2,000 a day. I have five technicians in here
:03:44. > :03:47.usually working flat out all day. But the fire, as you can sed,
:03:48. > :03:53.is affecting us quite badly. The university insists
:03:54. > :03:57.its green research work and its We've got outstanding scientists
:03:58. > :04:07.working on green chemistry. They will continue to do
:04:08. > :04:10.their research in other buildings around the university
:04:11. > :04:22.and we will bounce back frol this. How exactly are they going to bounce
:04:23. > :04:27.back? Well, they are very hdartened by the great number of mess`ges of
:04:28. > :04:31.support they have had from other universities, both nationally and
:04:32. > :04:35.internationally. They are stpporting the green chemistry, which hs what
:04:36. > :04:40.this building had representdd. The registrar told me earlier today that
:04:41. > :04:45.it may not be in the exact location, it may not be the exact samd design,
:04:46. > :04:48.but they will find a way to rebuild it and it will still be a world

:05:29. > :05:32.in Derby if they won the contract for rolling stock.
:05:33. > :05:36.It comes as firms in the East Midlands are being told that more
:05:37. > :05:40.than ?10 billion worth of contracts are up for grabs in the construction
:05:41. > :05:46.Many of our companies are expected to be in the running.
:05:47. > :05:50.But one specialist recruitmdnt agency has warned that
:05:51. > :05:54.the new rail project will h`ve to overcome an engineering skills gap
:05:55. > :06:03.After winning a ?15 million Network Rail contract to supply
:06:04. > :06:08.gantries, this long established family firm of steel fabric`tors
:06:09. > :06:12.in Loughborough now has its sights on getting work on HS2.
:06:13. > :06:15.It offers real opportunities and that is to be supplying the
:06:16. > :06:20.likes of this steelwork into major national infrastructure projects
:06:21. > :06:25.on a scale really that hasn't been seen in the construction industry
:06:26. > :06:30.Work on phase one, the London to Birmingham leg,
:06:31. > :06:36.It should result in more th`n ?10 billion worth of contracts.
:06:37. > :06:40.Two supply chain conferences are being held next month.
:06:41. > :06:43.And 40 firms from our region are said to be going along.
:06:44. > :06:46.What we are putting together, and this will all be revealed at the
:06:47. > :06:50.supply chain conference, is a series of contracts for the constrtction
:06:51. > :06:54.of the civil works ` the tunnels, the bridges, the embankments,
:06:55. > :07:01.This firm, specialising in the rail industry, says there are fantastic
:07:02. > :07:11.opportunities but getting the right staff could be challenging.
:07:12. > :07:14.Some of the average ages within the rolling stock sectors, 45, 0,
:07:15. > :07:16.and there's not enough talent coming through with science
:07:17. > :07:19.and technology and engineerhng degrees, or apprenticeships to
:07:20. > :07:26.At the Adey Group they say they are investing in the future by taking
:07:27. > :07:32.This is a firm that's always found new markets after starting out
:07:33. > :07:36.as an ironmonger's shop in the town in the 1920s.
:07:37. > :07:40.The supply chain for HS2 is a vital part
:07:41. > :07:42.of them succeeding in the ddlivery of the project, and they recognise
:07:43. > :07:45.that, which is good to see. Early involvement with the supply chain is
:07:46. > :07:47.something we would welcome from the word go.
:07:48. > :07:50.The steel firm hopes that the rail sector could eventually makd up
:07:51. > :08:06.What more are Bombardier saxing about the possibility of HS2 work?
:08:07. > :08:11.It appears to be good news for the Bombardier workforce. I askdd the
:08:12. > :08:17.company about its intention to build trains for HS2 when the tenders go
:08:18. > :08:23.out. This work could be worth up to ?7.5 billion. Bombardier cale back
:08:24. > :08:27.to me this evening to say that if they were successful, the ctrrent
:08:28. > :08:32.intention is to build the trains in Derby. Now, they already have
:08:33. > :08:34.engineers in Derby who are dxperts in high`speed rail, working on
:08:35. > :08:40.projects in other parts of the world. The expertise is there. The
:08:41. > :08:45.tenders haven't gone out. Btt tonight Bombardier is backing Derby.
:08:46. > :08:48.In terms of the ?10 billion contracts available for the
:08:49. > :08:53.construction work, how likely is some or all of that to come to our
:08:54. > :08:56.region? That is for phase one at the moment. If you are looking for rail
:08:57. > :09:03.expertise, this is the region to come to. The Derbyshire Rail Forum
:09:04. > :09:06.represents more than 100 colpanies who are experts in everything to do
:09:07. > :09:12.with the rail industry, so the work should be coming this way, or some
:09:13. > :09:15.of it. HS2 are looking for companies that aren't involved in the rail
:09:16. > :09:19.industry to come along as wdll because they are looking for
:09:20. > :09:25.innovation, they want something new to make this the world's best
:09:26. > :09:29.railway. Critics of HS2 will say the cost, the ?50 billion budget, will
:09:30. > :09:34.only go up in all this. That's likely in a very long`term project
:09:35. > :09:36.like HS2. Hopefully, exciting for Derby. Thank you.

:09:41. > :09:45.her daughter is lucky to be alive after being misdiagnosed twhce.

:12:06. > :12:10.County Health Services lasts for an hour`and`a`half. But for villagers,
:12:11. > :12:13.it's a welcomed sight. Any form of Health Service was sadly missing
:12:14. > :12:16.here. So we have been trying really hard to get something established,
:12:17. > :12:20.therefore we have been talkhng to the NHS and the Clinical
:12:21. > :12:30.Commissioning Group to get to this stage. Bestwood Village lies on the
:12:31. > :12:35.boundary between Nottingham City, County a District Services `nd is in
:12:36. > :12:41.a black spot for health provision. One of the reasons for workhng the
:12:42. > :12:47.way we have done is to provhde an agreement that residents here get
:12:48. > :12:50.the same kind of Health Service As it stands, the health visitors that
:12:51. > :12:55.are here this morning are the only health provision we have and this is
:12:56. > :13:00.why we are working with all of the agencies involved to try and rectify
:13:01. > :13:05.that situation. The village has almost doubled in size over the past
:13:06. > :13:08.ten years. With poor transport links and a growing elderly popul`tion,
:13:09. > :13:16.the need for other types of Health Services is clear. We could have a
:13:17. > :13:18.district nurse, we could also be running seated exercise classes
:13:19. > :13:23.which will reduce the likelhhood of falls as the population ages.
:13:24. > :13:27.Anything that we can use to support our population, that is what we want
:13:28. > :13:31.to do. So, it may be a case of baby steps for health provision hn the
:13:32. > :13:34.village, but if this trial hs a success, it's hoped there whll be
:13:35. > :13:40.more on offer for others in the community, too.
:13:41. > :13:43.Christmas has come early for one Leicestershire comp`ny
:13:44. > :13:47.as it processes thousands of orders on its busiest day of the ydar.

:14:40. > :14:45.their funding from the Department for Education. The schools `re back,
:14:46. > :14:46.the academies are back. Thex have come back with their
:14:47. > :14:53.responsibilities to manage their finances so we will be servhng some
:14:54. > :14:57.of the 24,000 lines today. That will range from exercise books, toilet
:14:58. > :15:02.rolls, to javelins. You can buy anything here. ESPO is a
:15:03. > :15:06.not`for`profit organisation owned by six local authorities, incltding
:15:07. > :15:10.Leicestershire County Counchl. ESPO was set up by a number of local
:15:11. > :15:15.authorities who recognised that they could save money through bulk buying
:15:16. > :15:21.and group purchasing. And over the last 30 years, we are servicing
:15:22. > :15:24.9,000 schools. That equates to almost two million pupils using
:15:25. > :15:28.materials which have come from here. That's why this company is

:15:43. > :15:44.left a Derbyshire man in thousands of pounds of debt and in danger
