:00:07. > :00:10.A Leicester man appeals to the Islamic fighters who kidnapped

:00:11. > :00:30.He was with Alan Henning whdn he was seized in Syria last year. Please,

:00:31. > :00:35.please, show him some mercy and understand he is the humanitarian

:00:36. > :00:41.aid worker. And while the go ahead for new homes to go ahead on the

:00:42. > :00:46.edge of Nottingham, it could go ahead. And a pig fact or a farm The

:00:47. > :00:53.company behind it says it h`s had threats. We have had cars strut ``

:00:54. > :01:03.scratched, I have had death threats, the team working `put under intense

:01:04. > :01:08.pressure. And capturing the great war on a grand scale. Old

:01:09. > :01:17.battlefields, 100 years on. First tonight, a man from Ldicester,

:01:18. > :01:23.who was with volunteer aid worker Alan Henning moments before he was

:01:24. > :01:27.kidnapped in Syria, has appdaled to Majid Freeman says it was hhs

:01:28. > :01:33."worst nightmare" when his friend, known as Gadget,

:01:34. > :01:36.was taken hostage by the militant Majid Freeman has been talkhng to

:01:37. > :01:44.our reporter Catrin Nye and showed her footage

:01:45. > :02:02.of his trip with Mr Henning. He is known as Gadget. He is the

:02:03. > :02:07.technical man. He said. He hs the man that will step up to it and fix

:02:08. > :02:13.it right away. He knew that the places that we were taking `id to,

:02:14. > :02:19.the United Nations said thelselves that they cannot reach hundreds of

:02:20. > :02:24.thousands of Syrian people, but we could get to these people, so we are

:02:25. > :02:27.a lifeline for these people. When he saw the difference he made for

:02:28. > :02:32.himself `` what he saw the difference he made, when he held a

:02:33. > :02:43.baby in his hand, that was powerful for him. How has it been for you to

:02:44. > :02:49.see him appearing on and Islamic State video? You do not expdct

:02:50. > :02:53.this. You hear about it but you do not expect someone that you

:02:54. > :02:57.travelled with and spent tile with, someone who you had meals whth and

:02:58. > :03:04.went to refugee camps with `nd someone who you shared a go`l with

:03:05. > :03:08.and someone, this is real lhfe, I know him. He is my friend. What

:03:09. > :03:17.would your message to his khdnappers be? Please, please, please show him

:03:18. > :03:22.some mercy and understand hd is a humanitarian aid worker. He is not a

:03:23. > :03:26.fighter. He has not come for political reasons. He has only come

:03:27. > :03:29.to help the people. Please, do not kill him, please, spare him. Let him

:03:30. > :03:35.come back home. Majid Freeman's appeal to

:03:36. > :03:37.the men holding his friend. Well, tonight the head

:03:38. > :03:39.of a Leicester Islamic charhty has joined more than a hundred Luslim

:03:40. > :03:42.leaders in signing a letter also Dilwar Hussain runs New Horhzons,

:03:43. > :03:46.which aims to help reform Mtslim The open letter has describdd the

:03:47. > :04:01.threats to Mr Henning as despicable. We want the release of this person

:04:02. > :04:06.who went out of their way to help other people. Because this group is

:04:07. > :04:11.sadly using the name of Isl`m for their atrocious and the nef`rious

:04:12. > :04:17.activities, terrible things they are doing, because they are talking in

:04:18. > :04:18.the name of Islam, we have to stand up and be very clear that this is

:04:19. > :04:22.not in our name. Next tonight,

:04:23. > :04:24.controversial plans to build new homes on green belt land on

:04:25. > :04:26.the outskirts of Nottingham, could Broxtowe Council last night gave

:04:27. > :04:31.final approval Greenbelt campaigners are ftrious `

:04:32. > :04:41.and are taking legal advice Over to our

:04:42. > :04:55.Political Editor John Hess. Good evening. This is part of the

:04:56. > :04:58.green belt in greater Nottingham, and this week with only harvested of

:04:59. > :05:01.the firm land here a couple of weeks ago.

:05:02. > :05:03.This is part of greater Nottingham's green belt.

:05:04. > :05:06.The wheat on the farmland hdre was harvested last week.

:05:07. > :05:09.On a September evening like this, the view looks very pleasant indeed.

:05:10. > :05:14.But within a few years, the new cash crop will be 450 new homes

:05:15. > :05:25.`` a morning stroll. It was green belt land here until counselors

:05:26. > :05:30.approved development plans. We have done everything that is right. This

:05:31. > :05:34.man has lived in the area most of his life and opposed the hotsing

:05:35. > :05:39.plan. We need to sit around a table with developers and get the best

:05:40. > :05:43.plan for the area, something that is good `` good for the communhty. We

:05:44. > :05:51.need a community centre, we need improvements to the roads.

:05:52. > :05:58.Campaigners outside the council s household `` Townhall. Desphte last

:05:59. > :06:03.night's final approval, this whole issue could end up in the Hhgh

:06:04. > :06:15.Court. A number of parish councils are entire to strike rope `` this is

:06:16. > :06:23.how the target is shared out among local authority areas, with

:06:24. > :06:28.Broxtowe's now approved 6150. We have been through a process with an

:06:29. > :06:33.independent government inspdctor. She has approved our thinking on

:06:34. > :06:38.this. We are one of very few councils to achieve that. If there

:06:39. > :06:42.is a challenge, I am confiddnt that we will wind it. If the leg`l

:06:43. > :06:46.challenge against the housing target succeeds, it is back to the drawing

:06:47. > :06:51.board, and a possible retridve for the farm. `` reprieve.

:06:52. > :06:56.On East Midlands Today earlher this week,

:06:57. > :06:59.I reported from the site of the former Cotgrave Colliery and plans

:07:00. > :07:03.The difference, that was a so`called brownfield site.

:07:04. > :07:08.That's why the issue has bedn so controversial and why thd entire

:07:09. > :07:15.housing plans of Greater Nottingham could be challenged in the courts.

:07:16. > :07:17.Ken Mathen is co`ordinating the legal action on behalf

:07:18. > :07:33.We have tried to negotiate with the councils. We happen to them the

:07:34. > :07:40.flaws in the strategy and they simply haven't listened. Thdy say

:07:41. > :07:44.that they have. They have not. They have made no amendments. Thd

:07:45. > :07:49.defaults have been there all along. And it has been cleared by `

:07:50. > :07:52.government planning inspector. The government inspector hasn't followed

:07:53. > :07:58.the policy. This is not the first time this has happened. As ` former

:07:59. > :08:05.head of planning for the City Council, you know that's thdre is a

:08:06. > :08:09.crying need for new homes. We recognise that, but there h`s to be

:08:10. > :08:15.a balance between the number of houses and the environmental

:08:16. > :08:27.damage. This site would onlx present 1% `` provide 1%. Is a legal action

:08:28. > :08:31.sheep? Who will be paying? The costs are reasonable. They have ddcided

:08:32. > :08:37.this is a priority. I best xou can only hope to delay this project by a

:08:38. > :08:40.couple of months. If we are expect `` if we are successful, thd court

:08:41. > :08:43.strategy would have to be rdwritten and we could redress these faults.

:08:44. > :08:47.Thank you. And in our later programme

:08:48. > :08:50.after the 10 o'clock news, we'll be putting those points to the

:08:51. > :08:52.politician who's steering through Goals galore,

:08:53. > :09:00.and some absolute beauties too, as Forest beat Fulham 5`3 and Derby win

:09:01. > :09:04.by three goals to two at Bl`ckburn. We'll be hearing from

:09:05. > :09:16.the key players in both matches Nottinghamshire's fire servhce could

:09:17. > :09:18.scrap two fire engines and axe dozens of jobs in an effort

:09:19. > :09:25.to save more than ?2 million. The appliances at risk are

:09:26. > :09:27.at Mansfield and Highfields stations, while 39 full timd or

:09:28. > :09:34.retained posts could also bd cut. Well, this news comes as 50

:09:35. > :09:36.firefighters gathered in Lehcester to protest against proposed cuts to

:09:37. > :09:39.officer numbers there. The fire brigades union says

:09:40. > :09:44.more than 100 jobs could go. There too there could also

:09:45. > :09:46.be fewer fire engines. Leicestershire Fire

:09:47. > :10:01.and Rescue says it won't colment Most people don't even know the

:10:02. > :10:06.proposals that are going to take place. We need people to get

:10:07. > :10:12.involved and the rights to their and he local counselors and objdcts to

:10:13. > :10:16.these proposals, because if we don't, they will happen, and there

:10:17. > :10:20.will be less fire cover. A body found in a factory fhre

:10:21. > :10:23.in Nottingham earlier this summer Dalvinder Johal was discovered

:10:24. > :10:26.after a fire at Nottingham Road Nottingham Coroner's Office said

:10:27. > :10:30.an inquest has been opened The investigation into the cause

:10:31. > :10:36.of the fire is continuing. Car parking charges are being

:10:37. > :10:38.reduced at Nottingham hospitals Patients and visitors have long

:10:39. > :10:43.complained about the fees. But from November the first 15

:10:44. > :10:52.minutes will be free; an hotr Hospital managers say they've

:10:53. > :10:59.taken peoples' views into account. A company which wants to buhld what

:11:00. > :11:02.opponents have called a factory farm for 25,000 pigs says its st`ff have

:11:03. > :11:05.received death threats. The pigs would be kept

:11:06. > :11:07.in buildings on a 30`acre shte Midland Pig Producers are now hoping

:11:08. > :11:13.revised plans will be approved by the county council ` but thdy face

:11:14. > :11:36.local and world`wide opposition This quiet village is at thd centre

:11:37. > :11:41.of a controversy that stirrdd animal welfare passions across the world.

:11:42. > :11:46.The actor Dominic West has `lready come here to voice his opposition to

:11:47. > :11:53.a plan by the company to kedp 2 ,000 pigs in doors in what some call a

:11:54. > :12:00.factory farm. The company s`ys it has received 27,000 objections. Some

:12:01. > :12:08.from as far away as California and Taiwan. And there has been worse. We

:12:09. > :12:13.have had cars scratched, I have been spat at, there have been de`th

:12:14. > :12:19.threats into the office, thd team working has been put under hmmense

:12:20. > :12:25.pressure. The latest plans for the farm went on show in Scropton. The

:12:26. > :12:28.company says there will be high animal welfare standards.

:12:29. > :12:33.Electricity for the flushing system would be generated on the shte from

:12:34. > :12:42.a plant mixing. Waste brought in from food firms. With the local

:12:43. > :12:45.road, especially with the slip road, because it is our main exit, and we

:12:46. > :12:53.are worried about the slow traffic going in and out. Also, the noise.

:12:54. > :12:58.We can control the farm mord and we will have less diseases and use less

:12:59. > :13:03.antibiotics in producing our meet. The company says a decision on the

:13:04. > :13:05.revised plans could be made by next teaser `` Easter. It did not want to

:13:06. > :13:09.discuss security matters. Many of us may not have heard of Sir

:13:10. > :13:13.Godfrey Hounsfield, but he developed an invention which has helpdd save

:13:14. > :13:17.millions of lives across thd world. It earned the Nottinghamshire`born

:13:18. > :13:23.scientist a Nobel Prize Now, a decade after his death,

:13:24. > :13:28.the scanner is being used by the University of Nottingham

:13:29. > :13:30.in a completely different w`y which may once again help s`ve

:13:31. > :13:51.millions of lives. This is his Nobel certificate.

:13:52. > :14:02.Memories from the life of a scientist whose invention house the

:14:03. > :14:06.strike rope has allowed countless others `` whose invention h`s

:14:07. > :14:10.allowed countless others to live. I'm met with his niece and nephew.

:14:11. > :14:14.My grandmother said she knew there was something special about Godfrey.

:14:15. > :14:19.It was the way he played with bricks. He would meet on from bricks

:14:20. > :14:24.to electrical engineering, `nd in 1979, he was awarded the Nobel

:14:25. > :14:30.prize. He invented the CT scan which is used to detect rain tumotrs. We

:14:31. > :14:38.were so excited. I would have been about 20 years old. Godfrey was

:14:39. > :14:43.not! I think he was very proud underneath it. It has been lore than

:14:44. > :14:47.40 years since his invention, but the University of Nottinghal has

:14:48. > :14:52.found another use for it. The team here are using CT scanners to

:14:53. > :14:55.monitor how plants are growhng underneath the soil without having

:14:56. > :15:01.to disturb them. It is the first facility of its kind in the world.

:15:02. > :15:05.This work could be very significant. By identifying new types of plants

:15:06. > :15:10.that can't cope with changing time it and can't respond to differences

:15:11. > :15:13.in temperature and less rainfall, we hope that we can increase

:15:14. > :15:17.agricultural productivity, `nd we know this is important becatse we

:15:18. > :15:22.have a rapidly expanding global population. When was first

:15:23. > :15:26.approached about that I thotght was fantastic and something that Godfrey

:15:27. > :15:29.would have approved of. Sir Godfrey will be remembered without ` doubt

:15:30. > :15:35.for his invention, which is most important from a scientific

:15:36. > :15:49.perspective. So, it looks lhke Sir Godfrey could be set to change the

:15:50. > :15:51.world again. Some extraordinary scientists beneath area, living and

:15:52. > :15:57.dead. A City's eye`catching

:15:58. > :16:00.commemoration of World War One. Giant photos have gone up

:16:01. > :16:02.across Nottingham showing how the battle`scarred landscapds

:16:03. > :16:12.of the Great War have changdd I think it is a terrific display and

:16:13. > :16:18.lots of knowledge packed into the small area that I have seen so far.

:16:19. > :16:34.Eight of them at the City Ground where Forest went back to the top

:16:35. > :16:40.A warning ` the report cont`ins a goal after a first touch that

:17:15. > :17:24.secret, you just play the g`me. It is curled into the net, a vdry good

:17:25. > :17:37.free kick. Side foot. MacCormick, deflected goal. It is 3`2. To come

:17:38. > :17:45.back from 2`0, we were on the rack and we decided to go for it. A great

:17:46. > :17:56.turn from Antonio. It is in the box! 3`3! Fantastic! Which was your

:17:57. > :18:12.favourite? The last one. Thd captain`macro. Why? `` the cap in.

:18:13. > :18:16.What a night. You have seen the game. We still dig deep. Look what

:18:17. > :18:23.happened. We scored a goal `nd then we scored another one.

:18:24. > :18:37.Before we leave Forest, confirmation that influenti`l

:18:38. > :18:42.midfielder Chris Cohen has suffered a cruciate ligament injury.

:18:43. > :18:45.His third serious knee injury and will keep him out for months `

:18:46. > :18:47.which is why Forest players paid tribute to him last night.

:18:48. > :18:50.It's a long road back and we wish him well.

:18:51. > :18:53.So a great win for Forest ` and what a result for Derby County too.

:18:54. > :18:57.Another thriller ` but just the five goals ` to secure their first away

:18:58. > :19:00.It was away at Blackburn and Angela has more.

:19:01. > :19:04.It was not the best of starts for Derby. Oh, no! What a terrible

:19:05. > :19:13.start! But they recovered in some style. Jamie Ward leveling the

:19:14. > :19:20.scores. Derby are back in this game. Before setting up wheel is tsed for

:19:21. > :19:29.the second. It went around the goalkeeper! A lovely effort A

:19:30. > :19:33.fabulous goal! The game was a setup for a grandstand finish, but this

:19:34. > :19:41.was Derby's night. We expect them to do it. We believe that we are going

:19:42. > :19:44.to go out and be a good sidd. We dominated possession and crdated a

:19:45. > :19:53.hail of a lot of chances. There are lots of things that gave us a lot of

:19:54. > :19:58.satisfaction. Derby have secured their await wind. Next, Cardiff city

:19:59. > :20:03.here on Saturday. They're hoping they are on a roll.

:20:04. > :20:06.Rugby now and the Leicester Tigers star they call a Maverick.

:20:07. > :20:09.Freddie Burns has made an instant impact since joining in the summer.

:20:10. > :20:12.He played a starring role as Tigers made it two wins out of two.

:20:13. > :20:16.Now he's hoping to do the s`me in the huge game at Bath `

:20:17. > :20:29.It have taken him long to sdttle in. A man of the match performance last

:20:30. > :20:39.weekend, and now as Tigers prepare to face their big rivals, and they

:20:46. > :20:50.I have probably overstepped the mark a little bit and they get plenty of

:20:51. > :20:57.stick for my fronts. I am jtst focusing on the game. The shaking

:20:58. > :21:03.was on point. Another good kick from Freddie Burns. What is he s`ying to

:21:04. > :21:08.himself before every attempt at a goal? I just tell myself to kick the

:21:09. > :21:12.ball for the post. Occasion`lly I bet a chocolate bar on it. H am just

:21:13. > :21:17.better when I am relaxed and then try to relax into it and tid myself

:21:18. > :21:20.just to keep the ball, really, and do it with a smile on my face. You

:21:21. > :21:26.know what they say about people who talk to themselves? It is the first

:21:27. > :21:30.sign of madness! Yes, I am pretty mad. Anyone who follows me on

:21:44. > :21:48.achievements is clear, but `s things turned sour during his time at

:21:49. > :21:52.Gloucester, Freddie actuallx felt out of level with the game. Are you

:21:53. > :22:00.back in love with rugby now? I think iamb. I have a smile on my face when

:22:16. > :22:18.Leicester will host three m`tches in the battle to win the

:22:19. > :22:21.And one of the Tigers' formdr stars says he hopes it's inspirathonal.

:22:22. > :22:23.The cricket, finally, and Nottinghamshire's season came to

:22:24. > :22:32.Anything we can do to get youngsters playing sport. Rugby would be great,

:22:33. > :22:35.but the bidding urges kids to kick a ball around or what ever, that is

:22:36. > :22:36.one of the main targets of this World Cup, to spread the word of

:22:37. > :22:38.sport. The cricket, finally,

:22:39. > :22:40.and Nottinghamshire's season came to a pretty ropey endas they collapsed
