:00:00. > :00:00.That's all from the BBC News at 6, so it's goodbye from me,

:00:00. > :00:09.It's nearly 6:30, you're watching East Midlands Today.

:00:10. > :00:12.Tonight - fears that the proposed takeover of a struggling hospital

:00:13. > :00:17.It's after senior bosses from Nottingham working with

:00:18. > :00:20.Kings Mill and Newark hospital step down.

:00:21. > :00:23.Please get this sorted as soon as possible so that residents

:00:24. > :00:25.here can have confidence there is a long-term

:00:26. > :00:29.sustainable future for our health care.

:00:30. > :00:32.Also tonight, murdered by his

:00:33. > :00:35.girlfriend, a victim of male domestic abuse.

:00:36. > :00:42.It never occured to me that she had that sort of maliciousness.

:00:43. > :00:47.Plus fears by hunt monitors of violent confrontations

:00:48. > :00:54.And pumpkin power, how warm autumn weather has created

:00:55. > :01:14.a bumper crop at one Nottinghamshire farm.

:01:15. > :01:15.Welcome to Friday's programme with Anne Davies

:01:16. > :01:18.First tonight - It's already been delayed.

:01:19. > :01:22.There are concerns tonight that the controversial takeover

:01:23. > :01:26.of a struggling hospital trtst won't now happen.

:01:27. > :01:29.Senior bosses from Nottingh`m's NHS hospitals announced today they're

:01:30. > :01:34.to stop working at the troubled Sherwood Forest hospitals trust

:01:35. > :01:38.It's so they can focus on t`ckling pressures in their own organisation.

:01:39. > :01:41.A Nottinghamshire MP says hd's worried the ambitious takeover

:01:42. > :01:45.Let's ask our health correspondent Rob Sissons who's

:01:46. > :02:04.Behind the scenes there is ` lot of frustration over the delay. That

:02:05. > :02:09.takeover should have been sorted out by next month but it is now going to

:02:10. > :02:14.be well into next year before that we learn whether it will happen

:02:15. > :02:19.Those key managers you menthoned is, the chief executive and the chief

:02:20. > :02:24.nurse and the chairmen have been doing two jobs to here in Nottingham

:02:25. > :02:29.and up the road in Ashford. They have their work cut out no Hugh in

:02:30. > :02:37.Nottingham. This is the acchdent and emergency unit where they h`ve been

:02:38. > :02:38.struggling to meet waiting times. Winter is round the corner so they

:02:39. > :02:40.want to focus on that right now What's been the reaction

:02:41. > :02:47.to tonight's news? I have been talking to a

:02:48. > :02:52.Nottinghamshire MP who is anxious that the takeover should happen The

:02:53. > :02:57.King's Mill Hospital is ratdd as inadequate and needs a good trust

:02:58. > :03:01.like this to take it over and he says and he is taking at face value

:03:02. > :03:08.for know what the NHS bosses have said to him. The messages wd have

:03:09. > :03:12.had today are positive. Thex are saying they are still committed to

:03:13. > :03:18.the merger happening. I havd spoken to the Health Secretary and he said

:03:19. > :03:23.the same. We have been throtgh some difficult years when public

:03:24. > :03:27.confidence in our local NHS has been very poor due to the reports and the

:03:28. > :03:31.terrible finances and the wdights in accident and emergency in Nottingham

:03:32. > :03:32.and Kingsmill. We really nedd to seek action.

:03:33. > :03:39.Where does this leave King's Mill and Newark hospitals ?

:03:40. > :03:47.With a lot of uncertainty for the people who work fair and at the

:03:48. > :03:50.trust in Nottingham. It is very difficult to recruit people for

:03:51. > :03:55.King's Mill Hospital, they `re very dedicated but there is not dnough of

:03:56. > :04:02.them. It is a huge reliance on agency staff which means th`t is a

:04:03. > :04:04.lack of continuity. In the forthcoming Care Quality Colmission

:04:05. > :04:08.report we are told there should be improvements. We have made

:04:09. > :04:13.significant improvements in the last 12 months and we hope that will be

:04:14. > :04:18.reflected in a positive report which we expect from their care commission

:04:19. > :04:23.in the next few weeks. That has been led by their leadership teal at a

:04:24. > :04:27.sherbet. That leadership te`m will continue to drive forward these

:04:28. > :04:29.improvements and build on them. -- Sherwood.

:04:30. > :04:34.What do you think is the significance of todays news

:04:35. > :04:42.It is clear Nottingham have a lot on their plate but some of this might

:04:43. > :04:46.be the ritual dance of the goods station. Nottingham have ond chance

:04:47. > :04:51.to secure a good deal and a good financial package, they say if it is

:04:52. > :04:52.not right they will walk aw`y. Thank you very much indeed.

:04:53. > :04:55.Next - domestic violence against men by their partners.

:04:56. > :04:58.Over the last four years more and more men in our region

:04:59. > :05:00.have been reporting abuse to the police -

:05:01. > :05:02.a total of nearly nine thousand complaints.

:05:03. > :05:05.Tomorrow an event is to be held in Leicester to increase aw`reness

:05:06. > :05:07.of the issue and raise monex to support those affected.

:05:08. > :05:09.Among the speakers will be Sara Westle, from Leicestershire,

:05:10. > :05:11.whose son was murdered by his partner.

:05:12. > :05:29.Four years ago Sarah Wessel's life fell apart after her son was

:05:30. > :05:40.murdered by the woman he loved. It never occurred to me that she had

:05:41. > :05:46.that sort of maliciousness. Evilness in her. It just turns your life into

:05:47. > :05:55.complete turmoil and upside down. The heartache that you carrx is just

:05:56. > :05:59.horrendous. Eddie was stabbdd 2 times by his partner after the court

:06:00. > :06:06.case in 2013 she was jailed for life. The story of Eddie is not just

:06:07. > :06:11.a tragic one off. In the East Midlands over the last four years,

:06:12. > :06:17.the number of men reporting partner abuse to police has increasdd

:06:18. > :06:23.steadily from around 1620 12 up to 2700 last year. I think it hs

:06:24. > :06:29.encouraging because it means the police are being more aware of

:06:30. > :06:35.domestic abuse and also are better at giving a good reception to men

:06:36. > :06:40.who do come forward. Also wd are finding that members of the public,

:06:41. > :06:45.friends and colleagues are `lso supporting men and encouraghng them

:06:46. > :06:52.to get help. This video madd by a Leicester film-maker illustrates how

:06:53. > :06:59.cases of domestic abuse can be misjudged due to gender stereotypes.

:07:00. > :07:03.Personally I cannot imagine being effects, let alone the victhm who

:07:04. > :07:08.does not have the support they need and perhaps feels they cannot speak

:07:09. > :07:10.out because they will be latghed at. That is why I have organised this

:07:11. > :07:23.That is why I have organised this event.

:07:24. > :07:24.The Canadian-owned company Bombardier, which has its train

:07:25. > :07:33.making operation in Derby, is to cut another 7,500 jobs

:07:34. > :07:40.The firm says it is confident no more jobs have to go for now as

:07:41. > :07:43.production is showing signs of growth.

:07:44. > :07:46.The Canadian-owned company Bombardier, which has its train

:07:47. > :07:48.making operation in Derby, is to cut another 7,500 jobs

:07:49. > :07:51.There are 1600 workers at the Derby site.

:07:52. > :07:59.But the RMT union has told BBC East Midlands Today that thd company

:08:00. > :08:03.has said staff in Derby will NOT be affected by the cuts.

:08:04. > :08:05.A spokesman for Bombardier said no formal announcement had been made

:08:06. > :08:18.Still to come, we talk to the boss of clothing firm which is t`king

:08:19. > :08:24.over Derbyshire school. Also tonight, Georgian library which has

:08:25. > :08:31.been added to historic England's at risk register.

:08:32. > :08:33.Animal welfare investigators say they fear a member of the ptblic

:08:34. > :08:37.could be injured for innocently taking photos due to heightdned

:08:38. > :08:43.The warning comes as police investigate a violent confrontation

:08:44. > :08:46.in Leicestershire which saw one man taken to hospital with brokdn bones

:08:47. > :08:54.It was the last day of the traditional fox hunting season and

:08:55. > :08:59.I am just body-camming injuries to his

:09:00. > :09:03.head, the left-hand side, hd has received a blow and he is bleeding.

:09:04. > :09:05.Cameras from the BBC's Inside Out programme

:09:06. > :09:06.captured the aftermath of

:09:07. > :09:13.a violent confrontation involving two investigators

:09:14. > :09:27.The former police officer s`id because of his neck injury,

:09:28. > :09:29.specialist equipment had to be brought in to rescue him.

:09:30. > :09:31.We have seen nasty footage of saboteurs being assaulted

:09:32. > :09:37.We operate differently from the saboteurs, it is otr job

:09:38. > :09:40.to watch what the hunt is doing it is not

:09:41. > :09:45.For the first time the leagte allowed cameras to

:09:46. > :09:50.follow its investigators over hunting season.

:09:51. > :09:52.Since 2005 it has been illegal to hunt mammals,

:09:53. > :10:08.We have done about 25 hunts this year.

:10:09. > :10:15.We have to put in a huge amount of resources.

:10:16. > :10:18.The league says there were three cases of suspectdd

:10:19. > :10:29.Opponents such as the Countryside Alliance said

:10:30. > :10:31.the investigation is disproportionate and a wastd of

:10:32. > :10:37.This summer Darryl and Roger return to the spot

:10:38. > :10:42.People are here all the time taking pictures.

:10:43. > :10:46.Some perfectly innocent person could get

:10:47. > :10:52.Two men remain on bail in relation to the

:10:53. > :10:55.injuries suffered by Darryl and Roger.

:10:56. > :11:02.And you can see Simon's full report on Inside Out here on BBC One,

:11:03. > :11:07.Next, the boss of a clothing firm that's taken over

:11:08. > :11:09.a school in Derbyshire, says he hopes it'll be

:11:10. > :11:11.a new beginning for the previously troubled institution.

:11:12. > :11:14.Last year, the former Alfreton Grange Arts Collegd was at

:11:15. > :11:21.But from this term, it's being sponsored by local business,

:11:22. > :11:34.So, can a clothing manufacttrer also run a school?

:11:35. > :11:46.November last year, strikes showed how the institution, staff `nd

:11:47. > :11:52.pupils were all suffering. Now it has all changed, a new building is

:11:53. > :11:59.under way to replace the battered 1950s building currently hotsing the

:12:00. > :12:05.pupils. This firm is behind it all. For 55 years, it has employdd people

:12:06. > :12:10.locally. We have a very good local people and the whole economx is

:12:11. > :12:14.driven by these local peopld. We have taken the view we will never be

:12:15. > :12:20.here that another 55 years hf we do not have well-educated children

:12:21. > :12:24.coming into the labour markdt. This term sore eye new head teacher come

:12:25. > :12:29.into the school with a new programme to stimulate the pupils. We want to

:12:30. > :12:33.make sure the children have the best education possible and they can move

:12:34. > :12:37.onto whatever they want to do in the future whether that is Univdrsity or

:12:38. > :12:42.employment or travelling thd world. We hope they will come back and talk

:12:43. > :12:47.to future students so they can inspire them and give them the same

:12:48. > :12:51.of ambition. The government has provided ?50 million for a new

:12:52. > :12:56.building but the pupils say it is more than that. It is a fresh start,

:12:57. > :13:02.new teachers, new uniform, ` different school. I'm quite excited,

:13:03. > :13:10.especially going into a nicd new building. I think it is a fresh

:13:11. > :13:15.start. Can a company like usually move into the education bushness?

:13:16. > :13:20.We're not moving into the education business but we are providing the

:13:21. > :13:25.leadership and guidance and we have been fortunate to recruit an

:13:26. > :13:29.excellent team of trustees, really good educational standards `nd this

:13:30. > :13:34.is what it needs, energy and enthusiasm. When the new buhlding

:13:35. > :13:36.opens next year they hope that will take the school into a whold new

:13:37. > :13:40.take the school into a whole new era.

:13:41. > :13:51.Police in Leicester are keen to question them in connecthon

:13:52. > :13:56.Some are elderly and they'vd all been conned into handing

:13:57. > :13:57.over cash and jewellery totalling ?100,000.

:13:58. > :14:00.So far the scammers have targeted areas around the city's Highfields

:14:01. > :14:14.This e-fit gives a clearer hmage of one of the men. The public `re urged

:14:15. > :14:18.to keep vigilant. Leicestershire's two largest

:14:19. > :14:20.councils are urging the Govdrnment to invest in a new type of train

:14:21. > :14:22.running to and from Leicestershire County Counchl

:14:23. > :14:26.and Leicester City Council both fear that without more investment before

:14:27. > :14:28.2020, delays in the electrification of the Midland Mainline will hit

:14:29. > :14:30.the local economy. They're calling on Ministers

:14:31. > :14:33.to order what are known as bi-mode trains which are powered by diesel

:14:34. > :14:35.or electricity so they can still be used when the line

:14:36. > :14:38.is eventually electrified. The annual snapshot of the health

:14:39. > :14:41.of England's historic sites has been Every year Historic England draws up

:14:42. > :14:50.its At Risk register. in the East Midlands it's pretty

:14:51. > :14:54.evenly balanced with ten sites As Quentin Rayner reports,

:14:55. > :14:57.some of the sites added are tucked Bromley House in Nottingham, was

:14:58. > :15:05.built in 1752 and from most of that After well over two

:15:06. > :15:09.centuries, the building is showing its age and has been added

:15:10. > :15:12.to the at risk register. The problem for the library

:15:13. > :15:14.is its 260-year-old It has never been replaced

:15:15. > :15:17.and constantly leaks. a lottery grant and needs h`lf

:15:18. > :15:30.a million to pay for the roof. The water comes down the walls

:15:31. > :15:32.when the drainage is It's damaging our collection

:15:33. > :15:42.of books as well. We're walking underneath

:15:43. > :15:52.the colonnade of old Market Just outside the square

:15:53. > :15:55.is also at risk. Historic England is concerndd

:15:56. > :16:02.about empty premises. As well as the covered colonnade

:16:03. > :16:07.which surrounds the squares. This square in Nottingham

:16:08. > :16:12.was comparable to Covent Garden in the 18th century as you can see

:16:13. > :16:20.today, it is a bit tatty and under It was regarded as one of the most

:16:21. > :16:20.beautiful public spaces in the country.

:16:21. > :16:25.It is on the conservation areas at risk list to reflect that.

:16:26. > :16:31.On the plus side, Saint Marx's church in Leics was in dangdr

:16:32. > :16:33.of demolition, is off the rhsk register as is this

:16:34. > :16:36.Historic England say good progress has been made restoring

:16:37. > :16:38.Taylor's Bell Foundry in Loughborough.

:16:39. > :16:48.Historic England say good progress is made.

:16:49. > :16:51.We've taken 12 buildings of the at risk list

:16:52. > :16:54.We maybe winning the battle but the battle continues.

:16:55. > :16:57.There is a lot of hard work for owners, ourselves and local

:16:58. > :17:00.Bromley House relies on rent and subscriptions from its lembers.

:17:01. > :17:04.It needs to find half a million but so far are it has

:17:05. > :17:09.That is a beautiful library, fingers crossed for the future.

:17:10. > :17:12.That is a beautiful library, fingers crossed for the futtre.

:17:13. > :17:15.Still to come - it's been a good year for the pumpkins.

:17:16. > :17:17.As we hurtle towards Hallowden, Geeta's been to a Nottinghalshire

:17:18. > :17:29.farm that's got a bumper crop of big orange beauties.

:17:30. > :17:34.Dominic will now be very quhet and I am going to speak to Lesley with the

:17:35. > :17:38.sport. Yes, indeed. First another day and

:17:39. > :17:41.more revelations out Today owner Fawaz Al Hasawi has

:17:42. > :17:48.revealed he will stand down today that Al Hasawi accused

:17:49. > :17:52.all British managers Al Hasawi says his comments

:17:53. > :17:55.made on this Kuwaiti But as a result a former manager

:17:56. > :18:00.has made a complaint They are investigating

:18:01. > :18:08.and in discussions with the Football Association

:18:09. > :18:11.and the Football League. Onto the Premier League and a boost

:18:12. > :18:16.for Leicester City fans ahe`d of the game with

:18:17. > :18:18.Crystal Palace tomorrow. Fuchs means fox in German,

:18:19. > :18:25.has signed a new deal. The popular defender's new contract

:18:26. > :18:28.keeps him at the club Next: a special feature

:18:29. > :18:31.on Derby County's Tom Ince. He says he owes a debt to Ddrby

:18:32. > :18:34.and helping them win promothon He's welcomed Steve McClaren's

:18:35. > :18:38.return and has given Angela an in depth interview on life

:18:39. > :18:53.at the I-pro and impressing his dad. For Tom Ince football has always

:18:54. > :19:02.been his life. It seems that life just got a bit better. That's not

:19:03. > :19:07.just me, that's a lot of pl`yers here. It allows us to express

:19:08. > :19:13.ourselves no matter what position you are in, to play your gale and

:19:14. > :19:17.not worry about mistakes. Rdunited with Steve McClaren, a court she

:19:18. > :19:23.says gets the best from him and his team-mates. Is the most successful

:19:24. > :19:32.time I have been here as virus winning winning games. Which is what

:19:33. > :19:39.we all want. One spell with McLaren saw him score 11 goals in 18 games,

:19:40. > :19:45.Tom Ince believes he owes a debt to Derrick Lee County. It was ` great

:19:46. > :19:51.time for me. This next step needs to be the right one for me, and 24 now

:19:52. > :19:58.and I am slowly building into my prime time. I have to try and do

:19:59. > :20:03.everything I can do in the Premier League, you want to go and play beer

:20:04. > :20:11.and play against the best players in the world. This is the foundation

:20:12. > :20:15.for that, it is a long procdss. Playing in the Premier Leagte and

:20:16. > :20:22.following in his father's footsteps, he will take it all in his stride.

:20:23. > :20:26.It gives me a name that I al proud of, it sets me a challenge. I have

:20:27. > :20:31.to say what I can do here and what I can do for this club and wh`t

:20:32. > :20:38.happens in the future. Keephng watch every game, the man he trusts the

:20:39. > :20:44.most. My dad gives me an an`lysis after the game, what position I was

:20:45. > :20:50.then, which fit I should have used. That is always a big meeting after

:20:51. > :20:56.the game. I have loads of mdetings, with the old man after the game He

:20:57. > :21:02.is proud of his son who has managed to play in the game. When your son

:21:03. > :21:06.has managed to stay in the game and keep the name-calling, it is a great

:21:07. > :21:11.thing for him and it is a great bond we have as a player and ex-player

:21:12. > :21:20.and obviously father and son. We have a game of golf and a chat

:21:21. > :21:21.afterwards. Great archive footage there.

:21:22. > :21:25.Striker James Wilson has suffered a serious knee injury.

:21:26. > :21:28.He'll need surgery and is sdt for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

:21:29. > :21:30.Well for the best coverage of the football this weekend head

:21:31. > :21:32.to your local BBC Radio stations.Matchday on Radio

:21:33. > :21:35.Nottingham will have all thd build up to the League Two games.

:21:36. > :21:38.As well as commentary on the Magpies game at Portsmouth

:21:39. > :21:46.In rugby Leicester Tigers dhrector of rugby, Richard Cockerill has

:21:47. > :21:48.admitted last Friday's record defeat in Glasgow in the first

:21:49. > :21:51.round of the European Champhons Cup has damaged the reputation

:21:52. > :21:55.He's pledged to do all he c`n to put things rights ahead of Sund`y's

:21:56. > :22:00.match at Welford Road against French team Racing 92.

:22:01. > :22:02.I think the manner of defeats is the thing

:22:03. > :22:04.which is hurting all of us at

:22:05. > :22:12.I am not going to shirk awax from the responsibilities.

:22:13. > :22:14.Nor is the rest of the coaches or playing staff.

:22:15. > :22:16.We're going to make sure we work hard

:22:17. > :22:18.and it is still early in the

:22:19. > :22:20.season and we will come through the other side of it.

:22:21. > :22:24.In ice hockey the Nottinghal Panthers begins their campahgn
