:00:07. > :00:12.It is almost 6:30pm. Our top stories. Claire Nagle's parents

:00:13. > :00:18.remember them murdered daughter. On the day her funeral takes place, the

:00:19. > :00:28.circumstances of her death still hold them. We could see the signs

:00:29. > :00:35.and we knew why and it was like torture. Also tonight, 60 trains and

:00:36. > :00:41.a contract worth billions. Derby's train makers are set to benefit from

:00:42. > :00:44.HS2. Plus, not is thinking about bidding

:00:45. > :00:49.to become European capital of culture.

:00:50. > :00:51.And the artist using smoke grenades and even a missile launcher to

:00:52. > :01:00.create these paintings. Good evening and welcome

:01:01. > :01:03.to the programme with Anne Davies First tonight, on the day

:01:04. > :01:06.of her funeral the parents of a Derbyshire woman at the centre

:01:07. > :01:10.of a murder investigation say they still haven't come

:01:11. > :01:13.to terms with her death. 38-year-old Claire Nagle

:01:14. > :01:16.was found fatally injured Her husband died the same day

:01:17. > :01:21.after a collision with a lorry. Police believe the two

:01:22. > :01:24.deaths are linked. Her parents have been speaking

:01:25. > :01:34.to our reporter Navtej Johal. I didn't know they were there

:01:35. > :01:37.and there was her her daughter. And I just couldn't believe

:01:38. > :01:41.that they were there, you know! A surprise birthday

:01:42. > :01:45.party for her mum. The mother of five was studying

:01:46. > :01:53.to become the mental health nurse. Last month, she was found

:01:54. > :01:57.at her home in Borrowash by police with serious injuries

:01:58. > :02:01.and later died in hospital. Police have linked Claire's death

:02:02. > :02:04.to that of her husband Vincent, who died after colliding

:02:05. > :02:06.with a lorry on the M1 All the way up, all we could see

:02:07. > :02:13.were signs saying that the M1 was shut, and we knew why,

:02:14. > :02:17.and it was like torture all the way. Things like this only

:02:18. > :02:19.happened on the news. You would never

:02:20. > :02:25.in a million years, you know, An inquest into Claire's death

:02:26. > :02:33.will resume later this year. Her parents, who have come

:02:34. > :02:37.from their home in Wales for Claire's funeral today,

:02:38. > :02:40.hope she will be remembered for the woman she was,

:02:41. > :03:00.rather than the circumstances The hardest thing I will miss is

:03:01. > :03:05.when she was in her car, she would put her phone on the loudspeaker and

:03:06. > :03:12.the kids would be singing to me. Wouldn't she? Claire's 22-year-old

:03:13. > :03:16.son who was reportedly attacked with a nail gun on the day she died is

:03:17. > :03:21.now out of hospital. Her parents also told Claire's two youngest

:03:22. > :03:26.children about what happened to their mum and dad. It was the

:03:27. > :03:30.hardest thing to prepare for and when it came down to it, I don't

:03:31. > :03:33.think they really understood anyway. We are going to miss her so much.

:03:34. > :03:39.All the family will. Next tonight, Derby stands every

:03:40. > :03:42.chance of becoming a major beneficiary of a ?2.7 billion

:03:43. > :03:45.contract to build trains That's according to the Transport

:03:46. > :03:50.Secretary Chris Grayling who announced the huge contract

:03:51. > :03:54.for 60 trains during Mr Grayling said he can't yet

:03:55. > :03:59.specify a UK manufacturer such But he stressed that Derby,

:04:00. > :04:04.the centre of the UK's rail Meeting rail engineers working

:04:05. > :04:13.at the cutting edge - the Transpost Secretary sees

:04:14. > :04:16.a laser test rig that can be mounted on a train, being checked

:04:17. > :04:20.at Balfour Beatty Rail in Derby. It was here that he chose

:04:21. > :04:23.to announce that these artists impressions may soon be replaced

:04:24. > :04:26.by more current designs, given that rail firms,

:04:27. > :04:29.both in the UK and overseas, are now being asked to tender

:04:30. > :04:33.for a ?2.75 billion contract to build 60 trains

:04:34. > :04:38.for the new HS2 route. Are you looking for a UK

:04:39. > :04:41.manufacturer of them? We're not allowed to specify

:04:42. > :04:45.the nationality of the manufacturer and indeed we expect to see

:04:46. > :04:48.an international presence in doing this, but I'm very clear that these

:04:49. > :04:52.trends need to be more than And so I want to see,

:04:53. > :05:03.a skill-building contract. It was this desire for HS2 contracts

:05:04. > :05:06.to bring thousands of young people into the rail industry which brought

:05:07. > :05:08.Mr Grayling to Balfour Beatty, a firm already employing

:05:09. > :05:22.dozens of graduates, We have developed this system onto

:05:23. > :05:32.lines and are looking to look -- roll it out across the network. I

:05:33. > :05:41.wanted work experience with them on I can continue into the future.

:05:42. > :05:46.Bombarding a told us today they are keeping a close eye on the process

:05:47. > :05:51.but Chris Grayling things Derby will in a fit from the contracts

:05:52. > :05:54.generally. Derby is a great centre for our Railways, whether it is

:05:55. > :06:00.technology which makes the railways better or maintaining the railways

:06:01. > :06:03.more effectively, whether it is the trains coming out, this is a great

:06:04. > :06:11.centre for railways and I have no doubt this city will play at

:06:12. > :06:13.important part in the HS2 contract. The contract will be awarded in

:06:14. > :06:18.2019. Still to come on the programme

:06:19. > :06:21.tonight: Our health correspondent will be here looking at the latest

:06:22. > :06:23.on the winter pressure A man's been sentenced to life

:06:24. > :06:32.in prison, for murdering another Richard Bernard was stabbed

:06:33. > :06:37.on the doorstep of his flat at Trocadero Court

:06:38. > :06:41.in Normanton in May. Mohammed Ibrahim -

:06:42. > :06:47.who's 19 and of no fixed address - will serve at least 18 years behind

:06:48. > :06:50.bars, after being sentenced A jury at Leicester Crown Court has

:06:51. > :06:57.been sent out, to decide whether or not a 31-year-old woman

:06:58. > :07:00.is guilty of the manslaughter Chaunfang Zen denies

:07:01. > :07:08.violently shaking Phoebe Go She'd been babysitting the infant

:07:09. > :07:12.at her flat in the Leicestershire village of Lutterworth on the 22nd

:07:13. > :07:16.March 2015 when the court heard the baby suffered

:07:17. > :07:18.a catastrophic brain injury. Police in Lincolnshire are deploying

:07:19. > :07:25.special constables to help tackle the growing problem

:07:26. > :07:27.of hare coursing. The illegal blood sport

:07:28. > :07:30.involves gangs often trespassing onto private land,

:07:31. > :07:34.to allow their dogs Farmers and landowners say

:07:35. > :07:38.some areas are becoming like the Wild West, with 75

:07:39. > :07:42.incidents reported last week alone. Police in the Derbyshire Dales have

:07:43. > :07:51.moved in with their colleagues NHS England has confirmed that two

:07:52. > :07:53.of our hospital trusts were on the highest state of alert

:07:54. > :07:56.last week as winter pressures Delays getting patients home,

:07:57. > :07:59.coupled with increased demand in accident and emergency,

:08:00. > :08:01.have piled on the pressure With the latest, let's talk to our

:08:02. > :08:06.health correspondent Rob Sissons. So Rob, no early end

:08:07. > :08:20.in sight to the strain The NHS is facing unprecedented

:08:21. > :08:25.record demand and we are seeing it on the front line. The latest

:08:26. > :08:30.evidence is provided by information released today from NHS England. If

:08:31. > :08:33.we take a look at the two trusts in our region, the United Lincolnshire

:08:34. > :08:39.hospitals and festivals like hospitals.

:08:40. > :08:42.It shows hospitals in Lincolnshire and Leicester facing the most

:08:43. > :08:44.difficulties with the strain the service is under put Opel

:08:45. > :08:47.So, what does that mean - there is increased potential

:08:48. > :08:51.for patient safety and care to be compromised?

:08:52. > :08:58.That is the official definition and obviously the pressure is worrying.

:08:59. > :09:03.What about the other hospitals in the area? Other hospitals are seeing

:09:04. > :09:07.sustained pressure, they are under strain as well, but not at that

:09:08. > :09:13.level but I can tell you in Nottingham this week on Wednesday,

:09:14. > :09:16.the trust was on black alert, the trusts that runs the Queens medical

:09:17. > :09:24.Centre here and butting's City Hospital. A again under pressure.

:09:25. > :09:30.Lots more work for the staff on the front line. Can the hospitals cope?

:09:31. > :09:34.We are hearing lots of interpretations about the winter

:09:35. > :09:38.pressures. You will have seen it in the media. They have been

:09:39. > :09:44.descriptions of the NHS in meltdown, some trusts say they are coping. NHS

:09:45. > :09:48.providers, a number and organisation for hospitals and trust says the

:09:49. > :09:53.truth is probably somewhere in between. But what we are seeing on

:09:54. > :09:57.the front line is the staff having to put in outstanding efforts,

:09:58. > :10:00.having to work really hard, and they say that in the long one is

:10:01. > :10:05.unsustainable. People cannot keep working at that level month after

:10:06. > :10:10.month. What is the advice from the NHS? The advice is to always think

:10:11. > :10:15.twice about whether you need to go to A I sound like a rope on

:10:16. > :10:20.record. It sounds obvious but they still see people that don't need to

:10:21. > :10:24.be there. Ian Bice is if you are unsure about where to go, there are

:10:25. > :10:29.so many places to access the health service, is to ring 111. They can

:10:30. > :10:35.let you know the best place for you to end up.

:10:36. > :10:38.Traders have been allowed back into Derby's Market Hall this afternoon.

:10:39. > :10:41.The building was closed on Wednesday after a worker died

:10:42. > :10:44.He's been named as 37-year-old William Ball from Sandiacre.

:10:45. > :10:58.The building will reopen to the public tomorrow morning.

:10:59. > :11:01.Police in the Derbyshire Dales have moved in with their colleagues

:11:02. > :11:03.at the Fire and Rescue service, to save money.

:11:04. > :11:05.In 2015, the constabulary announced Ashbourne police station would be

:11:06. > :11:09.Yesterday, it closed its doors for the final time.

:11:10. > :11:11.Officers will now be based at the nearby fire station.

:11:12. > :11:13.It's hoped the move will improve collaboration

:11:14. > :11:17.Nottingham's lace collection is set to go on display at museums

:11:18. > :11:21.The arts council has awarded ?75,000 to the city council for the project.

:11:22. > :11:25.During the industrial revolution, Nottingham emerged as a world

:11:26. > :11:30.The funding will mean the collections will eventually

:11:31. > :11:33.be viewable in places like Nottingham Castle

:11:34. > :11:56.A small group have gathered in Nottingham to protest the

:11:57. > :11:59.organisation -- the inaugural race bash at the inauguration of Donald

:12:00. > :12:06.Trump. They save they will not be silenced in the face of

:12:07. > :12:09.objectionable views. If you want to show the tree, you will have to put

:12:10. > :12:14.up with the opposition to the good tree. He said he wanted to heal

:12:15. > :12:20.divisions, and you are heartened by that? He also said we need to take

:12:21. > :12:25.back our jobs and protect our bodies in America it is all about us, us,

:12:26. > :12:29.us. Any foreigner is like an alien to him. And now, for something

:12:30. > :12:33.completely different. East Midlands Today understands that

:12:34. > :12:35.Nottingham is seriously considering a bid to be

:12:36. > :12:37.European Capital of Culture. The last UK city to hold the title

:12:38. > :12:40.was Liverpool nine years ago and it'll be Britain's turn

:12:41. > :12:42.again in 2023. Our political reporter, Peter Saull,

:12:43. > :12:57.has been weighing up Nottingham's cultural legacy is

:12:58. > :13:00.known all over the world, largely in fact to this man, but should the

:13:01. > :13:07.city and for one of the most prestigious prizes prizes around?

:13:08. > :13:14.I think we've got the capacity and the video as the city to pull this

:13:15. > :13:18.off. It won't be easy and there are many people to convince it is the

:13:19. > :13:23.right way forward but what I would say is if we were to go forward with

:13:24. > :13:29.a date, we have the ingredients to make something great happen. A few

:13:30. > :13:33.weeks ago, a few celebrations in Hull which picked Lester as UK City

:13:34. > :13:39.of Culture. The European accolade is an altogether good deal. Last held

:13:40. > :13:45.in Britain by Liverpool in 2008. It is really known as the point in time

:13:46. > :13:50.when Liverpool got their Mojo back. We've got huge truism in the city,

:13:51. > :13:55.it feels like the hotels are being built every day. The city has new

:13:56. > :13:58.confidence. Nottingham has a lot going for it, not least the

:13:59. > :14:04.contemporary art gallery, it will face fierce competition from Leeds,

:14:05. > :14:09.Milton Keynes and Dundee. And other major cities are expect to follow

:14:10. > :14:14.them. Key to winning will be getting the whole city to back that good. I

:14:15. > :14:20.think it is a very good dear. It attracts people to be area. I think

:14:21. > :14:27.we've got a lot to offer. I can't see what difference it will make. I

:14:28. > :14:32.haven't lived in another UK city which for this size hats had so many

:14:33. > :14:35.independent art project. Everyone can learn a bit more and get

:14:36. > :14:40.together, I think it is brilliant. There is plenty to iron out. How

:14:41. > :14:45.will the bid to be financed? What about Brexit? That shouldn't be up

:14:46. > :14:55.problem. Previous winner include right to pick and Istanbul,. Brexit

:14:56. > :14:59.getting everywhere! It does. Well, talking of cultural

:15:00. > :15:01.things, look out for this Art's hot new talent warms

:15:02. > :15:22.to his work as he plays You did need to take cover for that!

:15:23. > :15:25.Stayed tuned. Right, let's have some sport. Natalie, who is buying? Who

:15:26. > :15:27.is selling? First, we start at Nottingham Forest

:15:28. > :15:30.after a week of more turmoil In a space of week a proposed sale

:15:31. > :15:35.fell through, another manager was sacked and the clubs captain has

:15:36. > :15:37.been was sold. So, where now for Forest and it's

:15:38. > :15:54.owner Fawaz Al Hasawi? Sunny skies over the city ground

:15:55. > :16:00.today but it is a little more chilly than that summer stay in 2012 when

:16:01. > :16:07.the ul-Haq are we family bought the club. Back then, the owner was

:16:08. > :16:11.warmly welcomed. Now many fans on social media say they want him out

:16:12. > :16:18.and protest is planned at tomorrow's day. I think it's love affair with

:16:19. > :16:24.the club has ended. Disillusioned that is the only way to put it. It

:16:25. > :16:28.is been like that week after week. Whether to protest tomorrow, I don't

:16:29. > :16:36.know. I don't want my children to be in a bad atmosphere on Saturday.

:16:37. > :16:44.Exactly a week ago, the proposed takeover by American John J Moores

:16:45. > :16:47.collapsed. Yesterday, both he and Al Hawazi released statements. Firstly

:16:48. > :16:55.Al Hawazi affirming his commitment to the love saying he had appointed

:16:56. > :16:59.a chief financial officer. Then Mr Moores revealed he made an enhanced

:17:00. > :17:07.offer to buy the club this week. They are both blaming each other.

:17:08. > :17:10.Who knows what the truth is? And amid the chaos, confirmation today

:17:11. > :17:18.that Henry Lansbury has joined Aston Villa. Obviously, bid came in, the

:17:19. > :17:22.club agreed to accepted. We would have loved Henry to be here tomorrow

:17:23. > :17:26.and the involved, he trained well this week and trained with us and to

:17:27. > :17:33.be had stayed with us, he would have been involved cos he's a good

:17:34. > :17:38.player. He has gone now, we move on. There have been seven managers in

:17:39. > :17:45.four and a half years. Only Al Hawazi really knows who is next. I

:17:46. > :17:49.don't believe a word he says the fact that no managers want to work

:17:50. > :17:54.beneath him speaks volumes. What needs to happen is he needs to go. I

:17:55. > :17:59.wanted it to work, we all did, but I think it is time to call it an end.

:18:00. > :18:04.It is easy to forget a football game is being played tomorrow and

:18:05. > :18:08.Nottingham Forest who are 20th in the championship table need a win

:18:09. > :18:12.they could drop into the bottom three.

:18:13. > :18:15.Onto Leicester City where manager Claudio Ranieri has been reacting

:18:16. > :18:17.to reports that striker Leonardo Ulloa has handed

:18:18. > :18:32.I like Leonardo because he's a fantastic professional player and a

:18:33. > :18:37.good player. And, then, I told my impression. Now they are speaking.

:18:38. > :18:40.But I think at the end, Leonardo will stay with us.

:18:41. > :18:42.So, time is ticking in the January transfer window -

:18:43. > :18:44.everyone keen hang on to players or bolster their squad.

:18:45. > :18:48.Particularly the Rams who aim once again for promotion but the battle

:18:49. > :18:50.to get former star striker Chris Martin back on their books

:18:51. > :19:09.He is a wanted man and this is why. He has scored 63 goals in his time

:19:10. > :19:14.at Derby but found himself surplus to requirements when Nigel Pearson

:19:15. > :19:18.was in charge. When Mac came back, he was keen to get his hit man back

:19:19. > :19:22.to. There is still time for Chrissy and we want him back and we were

:19:23. > :19:27.taken aback tomorrow. Unfortunately, that is out of my hands. He holds

:19:28. > :19:35.the ball up and can player to other players. He is playing at full again

:19:36. > :19:39.but his heart can't be there. If I was Fulham, I would let him go. Your

:19:40. > :19:44.pussy was too back at Derby, so I think you need to come back. Dobbie

:19:45. > :19:53.agreed a season long loan with no release loan clause written in. But

:19:54. > :19:56.now he's back in the fold, back in the scoresheet and his current

:19:57. > :20:02.manager isn't keynoting him go. Actually, right now, he is focused

:20:03. > :20:08.on helping us, he is working well, we expect he will score many goals

:20:09. > :20:13.this season. Two weeks of the transfer window left is time running

:20:14. > :20:16.out for the Rams. We quite rightly want to keep him. He is a good

:20:17. > :20:25.player and he has proven it for Fulham. There are still two weeks to

:20:26. > :20:30.go but we have to to soldier on and Chrissy Hass to play for Fulham. It

:20:31. > :20:34.is clear Steve McClaren would love to seek Chris Martin back in

:20:35. > :20:37.Derbyshire this season but could you prove to be the one that got away?

:20:38. > :20:40.Staying with football and both our League Two teams

:20:41. > :20:50.Rugby and four Leicester Tigers players were named today

:20:51. > :20:52.in the England squad for the Six Nations.

:20:53. > :20:56.Dan Cole, Ben Youngs, Ellis Genge and the uncapped Mike Williams.

:20:57. > :21:03.Tigers are at home to Glasgow in the Champions Cup tomorrow night.

:21:04. > :21:05.Ice hockey and the Nottingham Panthers have their homecoming

:21:06. > :21:10.They're hosting Fife Flyers at the National Ice Centre

:21:11. > :21:14.It follows an historic win for the Panthers in Europe last

:21:15. > :21:22.weekend when they claimed the Continental Cup title.

:21:23. > :21:24.Snooker and Leicester's Mark Selby is out of the Masters.

:21:25. > :21:29.The World Champion was beaten by Barry Hawkins in the quarter

:21:30. > :21:35.final by 6 frames to 3 at London's Alexandra Palace.

:21:36. > :21:38.And in cricket, Nottinghamshire's opening batsman Alex Hales will fly

:21:39. > :21:42.home from England's tour of India tomorrow, after breaking his hand

:21:43. > :21:46.in yesterday's second one-day international defeat.

:21:47. > :21:58.And of course we wish him well. That is all the sports.

:21:59. > :22:00.Next - when you think about creating art, paint brushes,

:22:01. > :22:02.pencils and canvas probably spring to mind.

:22:03. > :22:05.But an artist from Leicester prefers to use smoke, fire and even

:22:06. > :22:10.Marcus Dove's pieces are already getting attention from buyers

:22:11. > :22:14.in Europe and closer to home, he's been commissioned to produce

:22:15. > :22:18.a piece commemorating Doreen Lawrence's appointment

:22:19. > :22:20.as Chancellor of De Montfort University.

:22:21. > :22:36.The man with a burning desire to take the art world by storm. This is

:22:37. > :22:40.Marcus Dove's explosive method of creating masterpieces. Using a

:22:41. > :22:50.home-made missile launch the as well as fire and smoke. Why? He told me,

:24:14. > :24:18.No, there aren't really any fireworks in the weather but what a
