:00:00. > :00:00.That's all from the BBC News at Six - so it's goodbye from me -
:00:00. > :00:00.It's almost 6.30pm, you're watching East Midlands Today.
:00:00. > :00:14.The backlash when business goals beat
:00:15. > :00:23.Thank you so much. Thank you, thank you.
:00:24. > :00:28.Leicester City fans thank Ranieri. As he is sacked, his thoughts are
:00:29. > :00:35.for them. My thoughts are for them. I wish you all the best.
:00:36. > :00:39.Also tonight, the recordings revealing the cruel nature of the
:00:40. > :00:43.woman before a young girl's death. And why the average woman in the
:00:44. > :00:48.East Midlands is being paid 26% less than a man.
:00:49. > :00:50.And tonight, discover how we are finding out the truth about how much
:00:51. > :01:00.sugar is really in our food. Good evening and welcome
:01:01. > :01:02.to the programme, with Anne Davies First tonight, Leicester City
:01:03. > :01:07.are looking for a new manager after the shock sacking of Claudio
:01:08. > :01:09.Ranieri. He was in Leicester today
:01:10. > :01:12.as fans expressed their He's been the club's most successful
:01:13. > :01:16.manager of all time. He took the team to the Premier
:01:17. > :01:20.League title for the first time in their history and made
:01:21. > :01:22.Leicester City famous Our sports editor Natalie Jackson
:01:23. > :01:28.is at the King Power Stadium. Natalie, one big question
:01:29. > :01:46.in the city today - why? Well, some say it was player power,
:01:47. > :01:49.some say he had lost the faith of his backroom team. But the owners
:01:50. > :01:54.would say they made this decision because they are desperate to stay
:01:55. > :01:58.in the Premier League. They have called it a painful decision. The
:01:59. > :02:05.critics have called it embarrassing. Heartless, ruthless, with some even
:02:06. > :02:10.calling it disgusting. But tonight there is dismay and disbelief. The
:02:11. > :02:15.man himself, Claudio Ranieri, has said simply, yesterday, my dream
:02:16. > :02:19.died. And he has added to the fans, no one can take away what we
:02:20. > :02:27.achieved together. I hope you think about it and smile. Smile everyday.
:02:28. > :02:28.So let's look back now at an astonishing 18 months here at
:02:29. > :02:40.Leicester City. A thank you card delivered to his
:02:41. > :02:44.home by a young fan. But Claudio Ranieri had little to smile about. A
:02:45. > :02:52.decision which has shocked much of the football world.
:02:53. > :02:57.The unforgettable celebrations at the King Power Stadium last May.
:02:58. > :03:00.Remarkable times for Leicester as a city. Who would have thought the
:03:01. > :03:06.time to say goodbye would come so soon? They are days that will be
:03:07. > :03:10.remembered forever, moments that stopped the city. A story the
:03:11. > :03:18.football world loved all over the world. Leicester City, Premier
:03:19. > :03:26.League champions! We are Champions League, man! He was a much loved
:03:27. > :03:30.manager. His players, a self-styled band of Brothers. At 5000/1 to win
:03:31. > :03:38.the Premier League, a few made money, others had to eat humble pie.
:03:39. > :03:43.New managers, new signings, but apart from that, nothing has
:03:44. > :03:49.changed! But things have changed. This week, Leicester could slip into
:03:50. > :03:52.the relegation zone. The owners who showed unwavering support showed
:03:53. > :03:56.Premier League survival ahead of sentiment. Are not ashamed to say
:03:57. > :04:03.that when the news broke, I shed a tear. I shed a tear for Claudio, my
:04:04. > :04:08.club and football. Last season, much was made of the steam -- the team
:04:09. > :04:13.spirit. Today the club had to defend suggestions of a club revolt. A lot
:04:14. > :04:19.of it has been speculation with no foundations. I think my relationship
:04:20. > :04:31.with Claudio has been perfectly fine all the way along. Support has been
:04:32. > :04:36.widespread. He would deserve the stadium to be named Claudio Ranieri.
:04:37. > :04:44.There have been such strange decisions in the last year. Brexit,
:04:45. > :04:51.Trump, Claudio Ranieri. I wish you all the best. So football's world
:04:52. > :04:54.coach of the has sacked. Leicester City's fairy tale story and its grim
:04:55. > :05:00.ending. In a moment, we will be speaking to
:05:01. > :05:05.former Leicester City player Gerry Taggart. He now works at a club and
:05:06. > :05:10.has a view from the inside but this whole decision has affected the mood
:05:11. > :05:12.of the city. So Amy Harris now assesses Claudio's departure and the
:05:13. > :05:15.mood in the city. Many wanted a statue
:05:16. > :05:18.of Claudio Ranieri here in the city centre after last season's
:05:19. > :05:19.football fairy tale. Nine months on and only headlines,
:05:20. > :05:22.after he's been sacked. It's a real roller-coaster
:05:23. > :05:26.being a Leicester City supporter! Good decision, because there's 13
:05:27. > :05:33.games left, so if they don't take action now, it will be more
:05:34. > :05:40.and more difficult. They should have given him the job
:05:41. > :05:44.upstairs and then next season He took his players
:05:45. > :05:51.to the local restaurants. Here, the Jamie Vardy coffee became
:05:52. > :05:55.almost as famous as striker himself. Today the Claudio-cino
:05:56. > :05:58.is the new bestseller. We've been making a lot
:05:59. > :06:00.of them this morning, trying to pay homage to him,
:06:01. > :06:03.really, get some tributes out for And speaking of tributes,
:06:04. > :06:08.11-year-old Foxes fan Jack Stephens We're going to have a march before
:06:09. > :06:17.the Liverpool game from the clock tower to the King Power Stadium
:06:18. > :06:21.to show that, Ranieri, we leave you, support you and hope
:06:22. > :06:24.you have a great life after. This city is brimming
:06:25. > :06:26.with reminders of Claudio Ranieri Regardless of the future
:06:27. > :06:30.for Leicester City, he's a man people took to their hearts
:06:31. > :06:51.and his impact and legacy With me now is the former Leicester
:06:52. > :06:56.City player Gerry Taggart. People are saying today the owners have
:06:57. > :07:00.killed the fans' dreams and broken hearts, even saying this has
:07:01. > :07:05.questioned the whole morality of football. What is your view? You can
:07:06. > :07:10.understand the point of view of the fans. What happened last year was
:07:11. > :07:13.their dream come true. But in the cold light of day, unfortunately
:07:14. > :07:17.there is no room for sentiment in football. And that this the owners
:07:18. > :07:25.made last night was solely based on that. Had he lost the dressing room?
:07:26. > :07:29.We know perhaps some players were questioning his methods. But was he
:07:30. > :07:33.losing the dressing room? It's really hard to say. There are
:07:34. > :07:37.different rumours that come out. There was definitely something going
:07:38. > :07:40.around the dressing room. When it is not right on the pitch, it's
:07:41. > :07:43.invariably not right in the dressing room, so you have to take those
:07:44. > :07:50.things into consideration when you are asking that sort of question.
:07:51. > :07:55.Yes, I mean, they haven't scored in the league this season, they've only
:07:56. > :07:58.won five Premier League games. But people say this decision taints
:07:59. > :08:02.everything because Claudia was such a hero. Would you argue this could
:08:03. > :08:10.taint everything if they go down? -- Claudio Ranieri. In terms of him,
:08:11. > :08:17.absolutely not. But as far as the players are concerned, it will
:08:18. > :08:21.completely take the tarnish of it, because playing football is about
:08:22. > :08:25.being consistent and being successful. Thank you so much. The
:08:26. > :08:27.decision is a tough one and only time will tell as to whether it is
:08:28. > :08:32.the right one. More from us later. An inquest into the death
:08:33. > :08:35.of a seven-year-old girl has heard covert recordings made by her aunt
:08:36. > :08:37.with her teacher and social workers. In some, she shouts
:08:38. > :08:39.abuse at her niece. Shanay Walker died in 2014
:08:40. > :08:42.in Nottingham from a brain injury. Her aunt, Kay-Ann Morris,

:09:14. > :09:14.social workers and In September 2013, she and Shanay
:09:15. > :09:20.were asked to come in by her schoolteacher to discuss her bad

:09:29. > :09:32.the last time, right? But the recording continued as they
:09:33. > :09:35.walked away after the meeting, and Kay-Ann can be heard shouting
:09:36. > :09:46.and swearing at Shanay, The inquest also heard
:09:47. > :09:48.a statement from Sarah Kieran, She attended several meetings
:09:49. > :09:55.between Kay-Ann and the school, which continued to have meetings

:10:10. > :10:12.an incident that never happened, and you're getting some judgmental

:10:40. > :10:43.the average female worker here would need a rise of 26%
:10:44. > :10:57.to match average male wages. The world of work has changed
:10:58. > :11:02.dramatically over the last century, but when it comes to pay, the
:11:03. > :11:07.overall gap between men and women is still wide. Data collected from
:11:08. > :11:11.employers across our region by PWC found we are the second worst region
:11:12. > :11:15.in the UK when it comes to the different amounts men and women tend
:11:16. > :11:20.to earn. And one of the reasons behind this is the type of job and
:11:21. > :11:25.sector that men and women are typically drawn to. The research
:11:26. > :11:30.shows a high proportion of women work in lower paying sectors such as
:11:31. > :11:33.retail and health services, while men tend to work in higher paid
:11:34. > :11:42.manufacturing jobs. The average female working here would need a 26%
:11:43. > :11:47.wage hike, around ?6,800 a year, to be on a par with male wages. We have
:11:48. > :11:50.a high level of manufacturing business. That's great for our
:11:51. > :11:55.economy and generates a lot of money, but from a gender perspective
:11:56. > :11:59.it is poor. We have relatively few women working in the higher paid
:12:00. > :12:03.manufacturing sectors here. A lack of flexible working is also a
:12:04. > :12:08.factor. Sasha was only offered full-time work after having a child
:12:09. > :12:15.so she set up a business helping parents work in a flexible way. A
:12:16. > :12:18.lot of employers are failing to attract talented workers,
:12:19. > :12:22.particularly women, so it is helping employees to open up the opportunity
:12:23. > :12:27.to flexible working for the right person. Even that is a step in the

:22:04. > :22:10.interview today, he was asked, was he faced by? He said he could handle
:22:11. > :22:15.it. He is not fazed by it. What he needs to do or what anybody would
:22:16. > :22:18.need to do coming in is, be strong, good personality, strong
:22:19. > :22:25.personality, have direction and get this team playing to the way they
:22:26. > :22:31.know we can -- we know they can. Some of the Buckie favourites, from
:22:32. > :22:38.Alberto Mancini, Martin O'Neill, Guus Hidink. -- the bookies
:22:39. > :22:46.favourites. To name just a few. Who do you think should be next? Listen,
:22:47. > :22:49.it is hard to tell. It's a minefield out there! But I go back to 20
:22:50. > :22:55.months when he first walked through the store, everybody was going, what
:22:56. > :23:00.are Leicester City doing appointing him? -- through this door. So it is
:23:01. > :23:05.just important they get the right person for this job. Thank you very
:23:06. > :23:10.much indeed. But next appointment is key with 13 games to go. Nine months
:23:11. > :23:14.ago I stood here and watched Leicester City lift that Premier
:23:15. > :23:19.League Trophy. It was a moment I thought I would never see. Nine
:23:20. > :23:24.months later, I also didn't think we would see Claudio Ranieri get the
:23:25. > :23:32.sack. It's an astonishing story. Another twist in this remarkable
:23:33. > :23:38.Leicester City tail. -- tale. So tonight, the fans would like to say,
:23:39. > :24:00.Claudio, thank you for the memories. # Time to say goodbye
:24:01. > :24:07.#... We all thought he was there for better or for worse. What has he
:24:08. > :24:14.done to deserve this? Is devastating and all the fans are devastated at
:24:15. > :24:24.the minute. Claudio, you really transformed the team. I would say
:24:25. > :24:27.thank you. You kind of gave the city a bit of hope. You made dreams come
:24:28. > :24:52.true. You literally did. Last season will stay with me, my
:24:53. > :24:57.family and all the other Leicester fans forever. Thank you for that.
:24:58. > :24:59.Thank you. You didn't just change football, you changed the whole
:25:00. > :25:25.city. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
:25:26. > :25:34.We will miss all those lovely sayings!
:25:35. > :25:38.It was a celebration. Friday wasn't bad after two storms, one in the
:25:39. > :25:43.stadium and Doris! How is it looking?
:25:44. > :25:52.Not quite as stormy as it has been. This is earlier today. Quite a lot
:25:53. > :25:55.of sunshine around, so these were some of the pictures from our
:25:56. > :26:01.weather watchers. Beautiful blue skies across Nottinghamshire and
:26:02. > :26:07.more blue skies in Derbyshire. Thank you for them.
:26:08. > :26:13.As we look towards tomorrow, not so much blue sky! We are expecting rain
:26:14. > :26:16.throughout the day and it will be breezy. Not on the scale of
:26:17. > :26:22.yesterday but take your brollies out because we are expecting some wet
:26:23. > :26:27.weather. It is because of this slow-moving low-pressure system
:26:28. > :26:31.moving across the country over the next 24 hours. We continue to see
:26:32. > :26:35.the cloud increasing over the night and then the rain starts to work its
:26:36. > :26:41.way in across the region. Lows of about 5 degrees. Still quite breezy
:26:42. > :26:45.and places, and that continues to pick up through the day tomorrow.
:26:46. > :26:48.Quite a lot of cloud around to begin with and then more rain
:26:49. > :26:54.intermittently through the day. Quite showery, some of it heavily in
:26:55. > :26:59.places, with highs of 9 degrees. Again quite windy at times. As we
:27:00. > :27:03.look ahead towards Sunday, we've got some brighter spells in the picture.
:27:04. > :27:07.This rain mostly staying away to the north-west with highs of 10 degrees.
:27:08. > :27:15.So feeling slightly milder on Sunday. We can see Saturday's low
:27:16. > :27:20.pressure system starting to move away and then this gap here on
:27:21. > :27:25.Sunday, bringing us some respite, but as we go into next week, more
:27:26. > :27:29.unsettled weather on the way. So I will leave you with the outlook.
:27:30. > :27:32.Whatever you do over the weekend, take an umbrella on Saturday but
:27:33. > :27:38.things looking slightly better for Sunday.
:27:39. > :27:45.Thank you, Alex. Now, blue and white... That's looking quite
:27:46. > :27:55.organised? It wasn't but in retrospect...! Goodbye.
:27:56. > :27:56.Cake-a-bake? Yeah. What is that?
:27:57. > :27:58.It's like bake a cake, but we flipped it.
:27:59. > :28:00.Oh, my God, we love flipping. Cake-a-bake. Cake-a-baking.
:28:01. > :28:05.I love it. I so love it when this happens.
