:00:09. > :00:11.It's almost 6.30 - you're watching East Midlands Today.

:00:12. > :00:12.Tonight: Following in his mother's footsteps -

:00:13. > :00:37.Prince Harry returns to a Leicester charity visited by Princess Diana.

:00:38. > :00:47.His visit rekindled memories of 1991. Also, dramatic pictures of an

:00:48. > :00:50.explosion and fire at an edge city substation. Plus health chiefs hold

:00:51. > :00:53.a second consultation over plans to rush in IVF treatment. And the

:00:54. > :00:56.finest of things, will take a look at a new exhibition exploring five

:00:57. > :01:05.centuries of fashion at Chatsworth house.

:01:06. > :01:06.Good evening and welcome to Tuesday's programme

:01:07. > :01:09.with Dominic Heale and me, Anne Davies.

:01:10. > :01:11.First tonight - Prince Harry followed in his mother's footsteps

:01:12. > :01:13.today as part of a Royal tour of Leicester.

:01:14. > :01:19.He's visited LASS, the HIV charity which Diana visited in 1991.

:01:20. > :01:22.As part of his visit the Prince also found out about a project

:01:23. > :01:23.in Hamilton which helps schoolchildren reach

:01:24. > :01:35.their full potential. Victoria Hicks reports.

:01:36. > :01:42.Rural support for the yes they can project at this community college in

:01:43. > :01:47.Leicester, a chance for Prince Harry to find out about this charity's

:01:48. > :01:53.work, raising aspirations among young people across the city. I

:01:54. > :01:57.thought he would be formal but he was relaxed and making jokes, he was

:01:58. > :02:03.so funny and was genuinely interested in people individually.

:02:04. > :02:08.It was so amazing, meeting Prince Harry, not a lot of people can say

:02:09. > :02:15.that, it's fantastic. Today's visit, real coup for this project. It's a

:02:16. > :02:21.huge thing, because we are very small charity, a small team of

:02:22. > :02:23.individuals but we have got huge aspirations in terms of the work

:02:24. > :02:30.were trying to do so this was a great opportunity to place a

:02:31. > :02:34.spotlight on our project but on the young people of Leicester, we're

:02:35. > :02:40.trying to work as hard as we can to make a difference in their lives.

:02:41. > :02:44.From here his Royal Highness visited LASS, the HIV charity for Leicester,

:02:45. > :02:53.Mr Shea and Rutland which is mother visited 26 years ago. The Princess

:02:54. > :02:57.of Wales came here to see the LASS panels, and commemorated the lives

:02:58. > :03:05.of those who died was eight. I did manage to show him this, when she

:03:06. > :03:12.came, she opened the front door, she was just so lovely. What does it

:03:13. > :03:17.mean that her son is now carrying on that work? I think that's super, it

:03:18. > :03:24.means he has the heart of his mother. Prince Harry unveiled a

:03:25. > :03:25.plaque to commemorate 30 years after charity's work supporting people

:03:26. > :03:31.living and affected by HIV. Well, this afternoon the Prince

:03:32. > :03:35.visited another project in Leicester where he saw how getting active

:03:36. > :03:38.is boosting the confidence of youngsters from more

:03:39. > :03:41.deprived areas of the city. Pink Lizard is an

:03:42. > :03:42.organisation project which makes learning fun

:03:43. > :03:45.and uplifting and the Prince was keen to get stuck

:03:46. > :03:59.in as Jo Healey reports. Being Prince Harry, couldn't resist

:04:00. > :04:05.joining in. On the head. What do you think of his ball skills? He was

:04:06. > :04:11.quite good. They came in and said he didn't want to but he has got good

:04:12. > :04:16.skills. Good technique. He knows what is going on even in communities

:04:17. > :04:20.and kids nowadays, they find it hard to grow up in areas like this. It

:04:21. > :04:27.was great fame to come down here. It means a lot. And he is a humble guy,

:04:28. > :04:31.very nice guy. A lot of kids get in trouble, when you have got nothing

:04:32. > :04:37.to do, so something like this, it was so good because we got straight

:04:38. > :04:42.in here and made friends, it keeps you fit as well. He is just one of

:04:43. > :04:46.thousands of young people that have been helped over the past six years.

:04:47. > :04:52.We have different projects, to get people into work, make them feel

:04:53. > :04:58.good about themselves. Is it successful? It a lot about having

:04:59. > :05:03.fun. And Prince Harry was game again with an impromptu photo call. He's

:05:04. > :05:10.just like one of us, thought he would be more charming. He is

:05:11. > :05:13.down-to-earth, though! He may be a real prince but as far as they are

:05:14. > :05:16.concerned he has still got his eye on the ball.

:05:17. > :05:19.Still to come - villagers in Derbyshire pitch in to improve

:05:20. > :05:24.Eight years ago a taxi driver was murdered

:05:25. > :05:27.outside Cromford station - now work's being carried out to make

:05:28. > :05:37.the area feel safer and more welcoming.

:05:38. > :05:41.A massive plume of black smoke could be seen for miles around

:05:42. > :05:44.Leicester today after an electricity sub station exploded

:05:45. > :05:48.45,000 properties lost power for a time.

:05:49. > :05:50.Our reporter Simon Ward was there at the height

:05:51. > :06:11.Could even in, the good news is, the fire is out, you might just be able

:06:12. > :06:15.to make out some white smoke coming out from that part of the

:06:16. > :06:19.electricity substation which is completely destroyed. If you smell

:06:20. > :06:25.the air this evening you can smell smoke even though there is rain will

:06:26. > :06:29.stop the Fire Service had just returned, they have mainly pulled

:06:30. > :06:33.out of here, they are coming back every couple of hours to make sure

:06:34. > :06:37.things remain safe here. Thanks to the quick work of Leicestershire

:06:38. > :06:42.Fire Service and the Western fire company it's only the substation

:06:43. > :06:48.that has been destroyed. Acrid smoke drifts across the Leicester skyline.

:06:49. > :06:54.At its source is a high-powered electricity substation, now well

:06:55. > :06:59.alight. On onlookers come and take pictures to stop Gerry Burke lives

:07:00. > :07:03.next to the substation. We do cross and we saw a great ball of fire

:07:04. > :07:09.across the substation and it started going up. All we saw was this big

:07:10. > :07:13.plume of smoke and then this fire kept going up, obviously we had all

:07:14. > :07:18.the fire engines and thought, right, something is go to happen, it kept

:07:19. > :07:22.getting bigger and bigger. Almost 9000 litres of oil are part of the

:07:23. > :07:27.substation. The Fire Service kept it contained but had to allow the fire

:07:28. > :07:31.to burn itself out. We know the apparatus is live until we have it

:07:32. > :07:37.confirmed in writing that it is isolated then we can safely make,

:07:38. > :07:41.commit firefighters with an element of safety. From the flames were out

:07:42. > :07:46.Leicestershire Fire Service allowed us to film much closer to the source

:07:47. > :07:50.of the fire. The transformer that could a and exploded looked exactly

:07:51. > :07:54.like this one, if we move across here, we can see that a foam blanket

:07:55. > :07:57.is now being put on the transformative cool it down now the

:07:58. > :08:05.fire is out. Homes and businesses lost power for a short time before

:08:06. > :08:10.supplies were restored. There was a bang, the power went off for about

:08:11. > :08:15.two minutes. Then they got it back on again really quick, fair play to

:08:16. > :08:20.them. Just went up in smoke, we have had to evacuate and move on, let's

:08:21. > :08:23.see what happens from here. As the smoke reduced the Fire Service

:08:24. > :08:31.monitored the scene to make sure it's safe. And fire officers here

:08:32. > :08:35.tonight out of me that there are still very high temperatures inside

:08:36. > :08:39.the fire station so it's likely to be smouldering for some time and

:08:40. > :08:43.they will be returning overnight. We have had a statement from the power

:08:44. > :08:45.company who say everyone now has their electricity supply back on and

:08:46. > :08:49.forensic investigations will take place.

:08:50. > :08:52.A woman has been sentenced to life in prison for dousing her

:08:53. > :08:59.The police described Katie Leong's attack on Daniel Rotariu as "utterly

:09:00. > :09:02.wicked" and say he's lucky to have survived.

:09:03. > :09:05.He suffered burns to 32 per cent of his body and lost

:09:06. > :09:11.A jury at Leicester Crown Court found her guilty of attempted murder

:09:12. > :09:18.Council leaders say they have "serious concerns"

:09:19. > :09:21.about major changes planned for Lincolnshire's hospitals.

:09:22. > :09:24.As part of a five year plan set out by NHS bosses,

:09:25. > :09:26.Grantham's A could be downgraded and some

:09:27. > :09:31.Lincolnshire County Council have responded, saying they're concerned

:09:32. > :09:32.the plans won't improve services for everyone.

:09:33. > :09:41.Managers say no decisions have been made.

:09:42. > :09:45.The NHS is to consult again over controversial changes to the funding

:09:46. > :09:48.of fertility treatment in parts of the East Midlands.

:09:49. > :09:51.Bosses want to reduce the age limit at which women in

:09:52. > :09:54.mid-Nottinghamshire can access IVF treatment on the health service.

:09:55. > :10:01.Our health correspondant Rob Sissons can tell us more.

:10:02. > :10:11.This is a bit of an obstacle being placed in the wake of these plans,

:10:12. > :10:14.why is that? It is because the health scrutiny committee of

:10:15. > :10:17.Nottinghamshire aren't happy with the consultation that is being

:10:18. > :10:21.carried out. I'm standing outside the headquarters of the Mansfield

:10:22. > :10:25.and Ashfield clinical commissioning group that decided this

:10:26. > :10:30.controversial policy, they have been out to consultation once, let's take

:10:31. > :10:32.a look at the current age range. These apply across the East Midlands

:10:33. > :10:49.for women wanting to undergo IVF. The decision had been taken here to

:10:50. > :10:50.go to this number, 25-34. Let's take a look at the current situation with

:10:51. > :11:07.men. But the plan was to bring it down to

:11:08. > :11:14.a maximum of 40 years old. This was due to come into place by April. The

:11:15. > :11:17.health scrutiny committee, made up of councillors in Nottinghamshire,

:11:18. > :11:23.was worried would lead to more of a postcode lottery for funding in

:11:24. > :11:27.Nottinghamshire. Personally I think it's rather low, a lot of women are

:11:28. > :11:31.only starting to look at planning a family they have been working for

:11:32. > :11:35.buying their own house, a lot of women have wanted to do that burst,

:11:36. > :11:40.and for some people it may be around the age of 35, it would be too late

:11:41. > :11:50.for them to access any IVF treatment on the NHS. How did the NHS feel

:11:51. > :11:54.about having a second consultation? Who spent months on it, money on it,

:11:55. > :12:00.they're going to have to do more of it after the local elections, they

:12:01. > :12:03.say they are frustrated. We are disappointed because we followed due

:12:04. > :12:09.process in the consultation, we tried to come up with a compromise

:12:10. > :12:15.that we thought would take into account a wide range of views that

:12:16. > :12:21.we heard, and also the clinical evidence as well, that is our role,

:12:22. > :12:25.to balance all postings. I think what this shows is it is a sensitive

:12:26. > :12:29.area, very controversial, perhaps one reason why other parts of the

:12:30. > :12:32.East Midlands so far haven't gone down this route.

:12:33. > :12:37.It's an exhibition of five centuries of fashion -

:12:38. > :12:49.as worn by the Devonshire family at the Palace of the Peaks.

:12:50. > :12:52.Scientists at the University of Leicester are trying to develop

:12:53. > :12:54.a new reliable test to help people with serious breathing problems

:12:55. > :13:00.The study - the biggest of its kind in the world -

:13:01. > :13:03.involves a thousand patients - all recruited from

:13:04. > :13:12.Leicester's hospitals. Giles Taylor reports.

:13:13. > :13:20.I'm going to take you... Clive was rushed into clinical hospital with

:13:21. > :13:24.breathing problems. There's been talk about me having seasonal

:13:25. > :13:27.asthma, whether something is triggered that off, they're trying

:13:28. > :13:33.to investigate now Melissa is my first asthma like attack, I'm being

:13:34. > :13:40.investigated. He is grateful for the research which the Saint involve

:13:41. > :13:45.needles. I'm a total needle phobic, so this is great for me. He's the

:13:46. > :13:52.perfect candidate for this unique project. What they call your breath

:13:53. > :13:56.signature is unique, with thousands of possible compounds and samples of

:13:57. > :14:02.breath. A huge task is to make sense of the patterns. We know that it

:14:03. > :14:06.contains a rich mixture of a number of thousands of different chemicals,

:14:07. > :14:12.but we're not quite sure yet about which patterns of chemicals linked

:14:13. > :14:17.to different diseases. The goal is to develop a simple breath test but

:14:18. > :14:22.can suggest best possible treatment of individual treatments. I think

:14:23. > :14:28.Clive signifies the need for this research, he has a label of asthma

:14:29. > :14:32.but most not have regular asthma treatment can he get symptoms of it

:14:33. > :14:36.and get it for many years but this is the first he has come to hospital

:14:37. > :14:42.a severe and life-threatening flare-up of this asthma. The

:14:43. > :14:43.researchers expected to take up to four years but it is hoped it will

:14:44. > :14:46.make an improvement to care. Police are investigating

:14:47. > :14:49.the attempted robbery of a cash A JCB was used in a ramraid

:14:50. > :14:55.on the Co-op store in Great Glen Witnesses reported seeing four

:14:56. > :14:58.men load the machine onto the back of a truck,

:14:59. > :15:01.but both were later abandoned. It's not believed that

:15:02. > :15:08.any cash was taken. CCTV footage has been released

:15:09. > :15:10.showing the moment a Nottinghamshire police officer dived

:15:11. > :15:12.in to the River Trent PC James Patterson swam 50 metres

:15:13. > :15:19.in February's icy waters Officers, including PC Paul Easter,

:15:20. > :15:25.pulled them to safety PC Patterson and Easter had been

:15:26. > :15:31.on duty at a Nottingham Forest game Four officers involved have been

:15:32. > :15:41.recommended for a commendation. Volunteers in a Derbyshire

:15:42. > :15:43.village are coming together to improve the image

:15:44. > :15:45.of their local railway station. In 2009, a taxi driver was killed

:15:46. > :15:47.outside Cromford Station. Now, the parish council has adopted

:15:48. > :15:50.it - and work's being carried out to make it feel safer

:15:51. > :16:06.and more welcoming. Another hard day 's work. Today

:16:07. > :16:12.these volunteers are clearing bark from recently cut down trees around

:16:13. > :16:17.Cromford station. It's where in 2009 local taxi driver Stuart Little was

:16:18. > :16:22.killed, a moment in the site's history that hasn't been forgotten

:16:23. > :16:26.by those living nearby. Now Cromford parish Council has adopted the

:16:27. > :16:31.station, work is being carried out to transform its image. Different

:16:32. > :16:34.councillors have been individual volunteers for some time but we get

:16:35. > :16:39.involved at the start of this year because if we adopted the station,

:16:40. > :16:47.we could then access grant through the parish council in order to carry

:16:48. > :16:49.out the project. It's in partnership with Network Rail, East Midlands

:16:50. > :16:53.Trains and the county council to make sure the station has a bright

:16:54. > :16:57.future. The Derwent Valley line community rail partnership is also

:16:58. > :17:00.supporting the volunteers work, they could then I've grown trees to make

:17:01. > :17:06.the station lighter and more welcoming. -- cutdown overgrown

:17:07. > :17:11.trees. They have been working here twice a month for five years, in

:17:12. > :17:14.that time they have planted more than 1000 bulbs. They approached the

:17:15. > :17:21.station is now decorated with plants and herbs. It's a matter of caring

:17:22. > :17:26.for your community. The station used to win awards in the days of British

:17:27. > :17:30.rail and we want to restore the station to something like its former

:17:31. > :17:31.glory. The summit may already look transformed but they said they not

:17:32. > :17:38.finished yet. First football and the Leicester

:17:39. > :17:41.City striker Jamie Vardy's been Vardy, who was training

:17:42. > :17:46.with Egland this morning, has revealed he's had death threats

:17:47. > :17:48.after Leicester sacked Vardy feels the threats

:17:49. > :17:53.are as a result of reports that he, and other senior players

:17:54. > :17:54.at Leicester, played a role in the Italian

:17:55. > :17:58.being sacked last month. The striker is adamant

:17:59. > :18:00.he had nothing to do Onto rugby, and Aaron Mauger says

:18:01. > :18:12.he's devastated after being sacked as head coach of the Leicester

:18:13. > :18:13.Tigers. He was given the news yesterday -

:18:14. > :18:17.but asked to stay on for one final week as the team prepares for a key

:18:18. > :18:20.game with local rivals Northampton. So 24 hours after being told

:18:21. > :18:23.he was no longer wanted - today he was back on the training

:18:24. > :18:36.field. Aaron Mauger has been in temporary

:18:37. > :18:39.charge for three months. He wanted the top job, anticipated seeing the

:18:40. > :18:41.season out but in a brief conversation with the ball

:18:42. > :18:47.yesterday, he was told he was no longer wanted. I would have loved to

:18:48. > :18:50.have stayed for the rest of the season, a few more Games, I thought

:18:51. > :18:55.I would get the opportunity and the right to do it but it's not my

:18:56. > :18:58.decision, I have to just hope the team get it right. There was little

:18:59. > :19:04.time to celebrate winning this, the first trophy in four years on

:19:05. > :19:08.Sunday. It came as a shock, he said doesn't want any sympathy, wants to

:19:09. > :19:12.put the team in the best position to play at the weekend, as players, we

:19:13. > :19:16.want to go out this weekend and went for our own, he has put a lot into

:19:17. > :19:19.the club and we want to repay him with a good win against the Auld

:19:20. > :19:24.enemy. Jordan Murphy coached alongside him for the last 18 months

:19:25. > :19:29.and both played together as Tigers. But a lot of fun, he is a very good

:19:30. > :19:36.friend of mine, very good coach, one of the best I've worked with, the

:19:37. > :19:40.board have made a decision,. Despite a recent upturn in results, heavy

:19:41. > :19:44.defeats in Europe counted against him and the club have opted for a

:19:45. > :19:49.restructure with Matt O'Connor written in next month to take

:19:50. > :19:52.charge. I was given the opportunity to leave yesterday or see the weak

:19:53. > :19:56.outcome I'm committed to the script for as long as I can, unfortunately

:19:57. > :20:00.it's only four more days but it's not really about me this week, it's

:20:01. > :20:04.about applying group in getting the team right for the performance at

:20:05. > :20:07.the weekend. A turbulent 48 hours but the quest for more prestigious

:20:08. > :20:12.trophies then this has led to another sacking.

:20:13. > :20:15.Now I am feeling rather short - like a little smurf to be honest

:20:16. > :20:18.because with me now are three victorious Leicester Riders

:20:19. > :20:28.At the weekend in Glasgow the Riders showed their utter dominance

:20:29. > :20:32.They retained the BBL Trophy crown with a 91-58 victory over

:20:33. > :20:35.the Plymouth Raiders in a one sided final.

:20:36. > :20:38.So with us tonight is most valuable player Taylor King,

:20:39. > :20:48.captain Tyler Bernardini and British forward Andy Thomson.

:20:49. > :21:05.Thank you all for coming in. What is it mean to get your hands on this

:21:06. > :21:11.trophy? Very proud. This is a goal, to come here and win has been picked

:21:12. > :21:15.for the club. You were the most valuable player, the man of the

:21:16. > :21:19.match, getting 20 points, which was incredible, we can see some of the

:21:20. > :21:26.celebrations. I think you were a bit emotional. I was overwhelmed with

:21:27. > :21:32.emotion for sure. It's my first trophy I have one as a professional,

:21:33. > :21:36.to do it with a group of guys is very special and I fortunately had a

:21:37. > :21:44.good game but we all did. It was a collective team effort. To do it by

:21:45. > :21:48.33 points was amazing, you are on a 16 game winning streak, can you go

:21:49. > :21:53.on to win the league? That's our main goal, we set out to win

:21:54. > :21:59.trophies and we have got one now, we have a tough run of Games coming up,

:22:00. > :22:08.ten Games in the next 20 days, our main goal is to win the league. Some

:22:09. > :22:12.more pictures of you in the celebrations, how pleased you for
