:00:00. > :00:00.It's almost 6.30, you're watching East Midlands Today.

:00:00. > :00:00.Tonight, 'We need to know you're safe'.

:00:00. > :00:07.Police make a direct appeal to a woman who's missing

:00:08. > :00:22.Samantha Baldwin is wanted on suspicion of abducting six-year-old

:00:23. > :00:25.Dylan and his nine-year-old brother Lewis. I'm sure people you know and

:00:26. > :00:30.the boys will be worried and wants to hear from you. Sam, if you hear

:00:31. > :00:36.this message please contact us urgently. Also tonight up for the

:00:37. > :00:41.fight, Jeremy Corbyn in Nottinghamshire could kick-start

:00:42. > :00:45.Labour's local election campaign. What's all the way from America have

:00:46. > :00:49.a dream came true for the young foxes fan with cancer. It is

:00:50. > :00:53.amazing, I have always wanted to come here and I'm so happy to

:00:54. > :01:01.finally be here. I am struck that I get to be here. And the road sign

:01:02. > :01:04.blunder signalling confusion in a Nottingham street. I don't

:01:05. > :01:05.understand how they have taken one sign away and put a completely new

:01:06. > :01:14.sign up with a different name on it. Welcome to Tuesday's

:01:15. > :01:18.programme with Dominic Heale First tonight - a direct appeal

:01:19. > :01:23.from one mother to another. A senior police officer today urged

:01:24. > :01:26.a woman missing with her two young Samantha Baldwin disappeared

:01:27. > :01:30.with the boys over a week ago. The case is being

:01:31. > :01:33.treated as abduction. Today a Chief Superindendent told

:01:34. > :01:39.Miss Baldwin they have children the same age and she urgently needed

:01:40. > :01:44.to speak to her. There HAVE been potential

:01:45. > :01:59.sightings of the family - These CCTV images from last Monday

:02:00. > :02:05.in Nottingham are the last sightings of Samantha Baldwin and her six and

:02:06. > :02:10.manual sons Dylan and Louis. Today in this appeal from the police. Sam

:02:11. > :02:14.we need to speak to you directly. I know that this is a very difficult

:02:15. > :02:19.time for you. I cannot imagine what you're going through and what you

:02:20. > :02:22.are thinking at this time. As a mother of a child of a similar age I

:02:23. > :02:27.cannot begin to imagine what is happening in your mind. I can only

:02:28. > :02:32.empathise with you. We desperately need to know that the boys are safe,

:02:33. > :02:36.that they are in good health and where they are. Eight days ago a

:02:37. > :02:41.family court ruled that some of that pose a risk of harm to the boys,

:02:42. > :02:46.they were removed from her care and named wards of the court. 100

:02:47. > :02:50.officers are working on the abduction case. The investigation

:02:51. > :02:54.team is sifting through exhibits and CCTV images. No fresh sightings have

:02:55. > :02:59.been captured on camera anywhere in the UK for over a week. Officers

:03:00. > :03:04.continued to search out request CCTV in new work and focus enquiries

:03:05. > :03:07.around Manchester and Lincolnshire. Police had this message for anyone

:03:08. > :03:12.who may be harbouring the mother and her sons. I would appeal to them

:03:13. > :03:17.particularly if they are mothers, families with children, to do the

:03:18. > :03:20.right thing. These children will be unsure about what is happening to

:03:21. > :03:24.them. I know they are with their mother but this is for the long-term

:03:25. > :03:28.care of the children in the safety of Sam as well. The police in the

:03:29. > :03:32.fight -- your primary concern remains the safety of the boys and

:03:33. > :03:35.their mother and the urge the public to remain vigilant and a reassuring

:03:36. > :03:37.Samantha Baldwin that her side of the story will be listened to.

:03:38. > :03:41.This is the fourth news conference Nottinghamshire Police has arranged

:03:42. > :03:46.in the past eight days, and a different approach.

:03:47. > :03:53.Yes indeed, a different approach and location and a different face. It

:03:54. > :03:57.was led by Chief Superintendent Helen Chambers as you saw there and

:03:58. > :04:02.she herself as a nine-year-old daughter who is the same age as

:04:03. > :04:08.Louis, one of the missing boys and that seems to have prompted her to

:04:09. > :04:12.have wanted to connect and empathise with some other Baldwin mother to

:04:13. > :04:16.mother. I have not seen this before from a senior investigating officer

:04:17. > :04:17.making this approach during an investigation like this all I asked

:04:18. > :04:24.why she has adopted it. It is important we think about the

:04:25. > :04:29.psychological aspects of this enquiry and how an individual may be

:04:30. > :04:33.feeling. As part of the enquiry we take advice from a number of experts

:04:34. > :04:37.and this is a particular line of enquiry we are taking and I really

:04:38. > :04:42.feel strongly about it that I want to appeal to have the mother because

:04:43. > :04:46.a mother will know how it feels to protect the children and I'm sure

:04:47. > :04:48.deep down she will do the right thing and contact us and let us know

:04:49. > :04:56.she is safe and the sea. Do you do anything more about the

:04:57. > :05:02.day they disappeared? We found out on March 27 it appears

:05:03. > :05:09.Samantha Baldwin left the family court before all the proceedings had

:05:10. > :05:13.been finalised, which removed her, removed the boys from her care and

:05:14. > :05:17.made them wards of court. Police say there is now evidence to say this

:05:18. > :05:18.was a preplanned event to take them away.

:05:19. > :05:20.Still to come this evening - a buoyant outlook

:05:21. > :05:24.A new survey shows the weaker pound HAS boosted sales,

:05:25. > :05:38.Labour chose the East Midlands to open its local government

:05:39. > :05:46.In a speech in Newark the party leader, Jeremy Corbyn,

:05:47. > :05:50.called next month's vote a chance to send a message to the Tories

:05:51. > :05:53.But while Mr Corbyn was rallying his troops,

:05:54. > :05:55.many people say these County Council elections will be seen

:05:56. > :06:01.From Newark our Political editor Tony Roe reports.

:06:02. > :06:04.During the English Civil War, Newark was besieged by Parliamentary

:06:05. > :06:08.Today it was the Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and members of

:06:09. > :06:10.his Shadow Cabinet, but nobody was talking about civil war.

:06:11. > :06:16.Front row seats ready for the Shadow Cabinet,

:06:17. > :06:17.united in this fight for

:06:18. > :06:24.In normal times the East Midlands is the battle ground

:06:25. > :06:26.you would expect Labour to do well in.

:06:27. > :06:29.Labour-controlled Derbyshire and runs Nottinghamshire without an open

:06:30. > :06:32.majority, so the reader is keen to use them to illustrate the new

:06:33. > :06:34.mantra that Labour is standing up for you.

:06:35. > :06:40.Just west of here is Derbyshire, the Labour council will

:06:41. > :06:44.the right service has helped local people claim ?18 million in

:06:45. > :06:54.Use your vote for Labour on May the 4th.

:06:55. > :06:57.You have chosen Newark to launch the campaign today, there

:06:58. > :06:59.is not a single Labour county council in Newark.

:07:00. > :07:04.Is that a final optimism despite the polls and

:07:05. > :07:20.Corbyn wanted to talk about issues, not polls and predictions.

:07:21. > :07:22.He said voting Labour was the best way of

:07:23. > :07:27.We want to guarantee market access to

:07:28. > :07:30.Europe, guarantee jobs on leaving the European Union and that in turn

:07:31. > :07:32.guarantees the funding for public services.

:07:33. > :07:34.You want to guarantee your job, don't you?

:07:35. > :07:39.I am very happy with my job and I enjoy it.

:07:40. > :07:40.Losing power in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire

:07:41. > :07:44.would be bleak for Labour and make the leaders job even harder than it

:07:45. > :07:53.So there will be a few eyes on how the East Midlands

:07:54. > :08:03.In the East Midlands especially because Labour only run three county

:08:04. > :08:07.councils in the country, two of them are in the East Midlands and the

:08:08. > :08:12.polls for Labour nationally are terrible. They are showing at the

:08:13. > :08:17.moment they're heading to the worst local election defeat since 1982 and

:08:18. > :08:19.it is fair to say Jeremy Corbyn was rattled in some media interviews

:08:20. > :08:22.today because all people wanted to talk about the opinion polls and not

:08:23. > :08:25.Labour's policies in the selection. Two Nottingham men have been jailed

:08:26. > :08:28.for seven years each for drugs Police found more than seventeen

:08:29. > :08:32.thousand pounds worth of drugs at Cameron Green's home in Bestwood,

:08:33. > :08:34.as well as a loaded shotgun They also searched Christopher

:08:35. > :08:41.Ashbury's house in Sherwood where they found evidence that he'd

:08:42. > :08:43.brought deactivated Both men pleaded

:08:44. > :08:55.guilty to the charges. The procession route has been

:08:56. > :08:57.announced for the Queen's visit On Thursday morning she'll enter

:08:58. > :09:01.the city centre at Humberstone Gate and will go past the Clocktower,

:09:02. > :09:03.before travelling up Her Majesty will then attend

:09:04. > :09:10.a Royal Maunday service Thousands of spectators

:09:11. > :09:14.are expected to turn out. Next tonight, business leaders have

:09:15. > :09:16.painted a bouyant picture of the current state

:09:17. > :09:18.of the East Midlands economy. In the first major survey of local

:09:19. > :09:22.firms since Theresa May signed Article 50, the region's Chamber

:09:23. > :09:23.of Commerce, says half our manufacturing

:09:24. > :09:25.businesses have increased In the same three-month period,

:09:26. > :09:41.40 per cent of firms say sales Elsewhere, almost half those

:09:42. > :09:45.surveyed said they'd taken on more staff to cope with demand,

:09:46. > :09:47.and a third planned to expand Well the very people helping to grow

:09:48. > :09:51.the region's manufacturing and engineering industries

:09:52. > :09:52.in the East Midlands were at Loughborough University

:09:53. > :09:54.for a conference today. Future growth and the impact

:09:55. > :09:57.of leaving the EU were among And it's fair to say,

:09:58. > :10:01.the businessmen and women we spoke to were feeling positive

:10:02. > :10:15.about business post-Brexit. We are optimistic about the future,

:10:16. > :10:19.we have a strong brand internationally particularly selling

:10:20. > :10:22.in the Middle East and Far East so we feel very positive that the

:10:23. > :10:26.school roll and we see a lot of international expansion in future.

:10:27. > :10:30.Echoes the work in cancer screening and diagnosis we know it is a global

:10:31. > :10:34.market and we will be fine in that market particularly in India. A

:10:35. > :10:38.relationship with Europe particularly manufacturing suppliers

:10:39. > :10:42.might change, we don't will how that will work but hopefully it will

:10:43. > :10:46.become clear in time. Your Mac for us as a European company not just

:10:47. > :10:52.based here it could be a good thing but I think we have to wait and see.

:10:53. > :10:58.There is a good opportunity here for the future, and it is something

:10:59. > :11:01.unknown so I still think it is going to be exciting over the next couple

:11:02. > :11:07.of years, a lot of pros and cons of but I still believe it is a really

:11:08. > :11:12.good place to be. I don't think it will make that much difference, we

:11:13. > :11:17.will get an the way we have been and that is a chance we could have a

:11:18. > :11:21.better global product and the global economy in the future. That looks

:11:22. > :11:23.outward to the rest of the world rather than concentrating on Europe.

:11:24. > :11:25.Well, as we've already seen, some firms are reporting

:11:26. > :11:28.a rise in exports - helped in part by the weakness

:11:29. > :11:31.Lindhurst Engineering in Sutton-in-Ashfield is feeling

:11:32. > :11:33.the benefit of this increase, but despite these extra sales,

:11:34. > :11:36.its boss still has concerns about what the future may hold,

:11:37. > :11:54.No doom and gloom here, the EU referendum result in any subsequent

:11:55. > :11:57.weakness in the pound has sparked arising exports in this

:11:58. > :12:00.Nottinghamshire engineering firm which makes components for tower

:12:01. > :12:06.cranes. No one is more pleased surprise than the managing director.

:12:07. > :12:14.I was definitely for remain, we have seen a big upturn in exports and we

:12:15. > :12:17.have become more competitive. For the first time in eight years

:12:18. > :12:24.Martin's business is expected to have a turnover of over ?4 million.

:12:25. > :12:30.We are somewhere between 20 and 30% of where we were last year. And as I

:12:31. > :12:35.make you feel? It is fantastic, it has been a long time since we have

:12:36. > :12:38.had that sense of comfort. It is life post-Brexit that has them

:12:39. > :12:43.worried, the company has recently benefited from EU grant and does not

:12:44. > :12:49.yet know whether -- where similar future funding will come from. The

:12:50. > :12:53.UK's third-largest recipient of businesses retain -- retaining this

:12:54. > :12:56.funding from the EU, that is disappearing now so the worry is

:12:57. > :13:02.what is good to fill that gap to drive this innovation forward? It is

:13:03. > :13:08.the uncertainty. The leap into the dark. It might be the best thing we

:13:09. > :13:15.have ever done but no body knows. As a business leader that is nothing

:13:16. > :13:17.you want more than uncertainty -- you do not want uncertainty.

:13:18. > :13:19.Next - the ex-servicemen fighting a battle now

:13:20. > :13:23.Charity workers say some already suffer with mental health problems

:13:24. > :13:27.and being homeless can make them suicidal.

:13:28. > :13:29.But at Coalville in Leicestershire housing bosses are working

:13:30. > :13:32.with the 'Once, We Were Soldiers' charity, to make finding

:13:33. > :13:43.You just don't know where to turn, being a veteran, it's very hard to

:13:44. > :13:49.But Fergus needed help, he served in the first Gulf

:13:50. > :13:52.War, Bosnia, Northern Ireland, and Iraq.

:13:53. > :13:55.After 15 years he left the Army, he had PTSD and who became

:13:56. > :14:02.You are supposed to survive but I don't know where they

:14:03. > :14:09.That is because last September he was

:14:10. > :14:11.This fantastic, it is actually my first

:14:12. > :14:17.And it is brilliant, I actually love it.

:14:18. > :14:19.It is thanks to the locally-based charity, over four years they have

:14:20. > :14:25.supported around 100 ex-servicemen like Fergus.

:14:26. > :14:28.It is a fresh start in life, the main job is to get them

:14:29. > :14:31.housed and then we can focus on mental health problems

:14:32. > :14:33.and signpost them to places like Combat Stress

:14:34. > :14:36.but the main priority is the roof over their head in to get this

:14:37. > :14:43.In the past year they have linked up with North West

:14:44. > :14:46.Leicestershire District Council and between them they have has four

:14:47. > :14:50.It has been really useful to be able to support

:14:51. > :14:53.ex-servicemen and women who have done so much for the country, and

:14:54. > :14:57.this is our way of giving a little bit back to help them through what

:14:58. > :14:59.can be difficult times in their lives.

:15:00. > :15:01.The all except much more needs to be done, he lives are

:15:02. > :15:04.slowly being turned around and Fergus has become a volunteer to

:15:05. > :15:16.help other former soldiers like him get homes.

:15:17. > :15:19.Still to come - in sport - there's no stopping Niamh.

:15:20. > :15:21.A heptathlete treaining hard for Commonwealth

:15:22. > :15:24.glory in Australia - and hoping to pick up a few

:15:25. > :15:39.Now tonight Leicester City are in action against Sunderland -

:15:40. > :15:42.a chance of course to pull further away from the relegation zone

:15:43. > :15:44.and extend Craig Shakespeare' unbeaten start to life

:15:45. > :15:48.But it's also a big night for one fan in particular -

:15:49. > :15:50.a teenager cancer patient who's been watching every twist and turn

:15:51. > :15:53.of the Foxes against all odds story all the way from America.

:15:54. > :15:56.Tonight Travis Hackett is gearing up for his first

:15:57. > :15:59.game at the King Power, where we can join Amy Harris.

:16:00. > :16:09.The Leicester City story has captivated football fans

:16:10. > :16:15.including 13-year old Travis Hackett from San Diego.

:16:16. > :16:18.Travis has had his own battle to contend with recently,

:16:19. > :16:21.after being diagnosed with leukaemia.

:16:22. > :16:24.So a charity stepped in to give him a special treat -

:16:25. > :16:26.flying him all the way here to Leicester

:16:27. > :16:39.I spent this afternoon with Travis and his father Tim.

:16:40. > :16:47.He has travelled thousands of miles to the home of his heroes, on TV in

:16:48. > :16:51.America Travis watched Leicester City football club's remarkable

:16:52. > :16:55.Premier League campaign while fighting his own battle with cancer.

:16:56. > :16:59.Tonight he will see his beloved foxes play here at the King Power

:17:00. > :17:04.Stadium for the first time. It is a dream come true. It is amazing, I

:17:05. > :17:08.have always wanted to come here and I'm so happy to finally be here, I

:17:09. > :17:14.am struck that I actually get to be here today. Here is the moment

:17:15. > :17:21.Travis found out about his trip of a lifetime. I am going to that game?

:17:22. > :17:28.Those breaking the news from the Creek will injure fund set up to

:17:29. > :17:30.improve the lives of children with cancer by offering opportunities to

:17:31. > :17:35.experience football across the world and included in Travis's trip, he

:17:36. > :17:39.visits to the now world famous mural dedicated to the title winning

:17:40. > :17:45.players. Travis it was easy. He said that he equated his surviving his

:17:46. > :17:50.cancer to the rise of Leicester and we thought that is exactly what the

:17:51. > :17:54.fund is about, it is how soccer is very healing. It is awesome to see

:17:55. > :18:01.them appear, they completely deserve it. It is so cool. Is your

:18:02. > :18:06.favourite? Mariners. What will it be like to see him playing here in

:18:07. > :18:09.Leicester later on? It will be amazing, I have always wanted to see

:18:10. > :18:15.all the Leicester players but particularly him. Otho Travis is in

:18:16. > :18:16.remission he still has a year of chemotherapy ahead but this is

:18:17. > :18:27.another hero is fearless. Like many foxes fans Travis is

:18:28. > :18:33.pretty confident they win he predicts 3-1 in case you're

:18:34. > :18:37.wondering and why not? The foxes seem rejuvenated under the new

:18:38. > :18:41.manager. Everyone here will be hoping they continue that great run

:18:42. > :18:48.of form tonight and next week against Madrid in the Champions

:18:49. > :18:56.League. We know someone else going to Madrid. Not as!

:18:57. > :19:00.And after looking down and out at the end of February Leicester

:19:01. > :19:02.could go up to ninth in the Premier League

:19:03. > :19:05.Derby must win to keep their play-off hopes alive

:19:06. > :19:16.and Nottingham Forest play Wolves needing points to stay up.

:19:17. > :19:21.Craig Shakespeare is looking to make it five wins in a row tonight

:19:22. > :19:27.against a Sunderland side who just over a month ago when the bottom

:19:28. > :19:32.three with Leicester. How times have changed. If the foxes with the night

:19:33. > :19:36.they could go 11 places above Sunderland by the end of the

:19:37. > :19:42.evening. They proved going to Crystal Palace in scoring for that

:19:43. > :19:47.they are a capable side and I think any team that has Jermaine before

:19:48. > :19:50.and it has to make sure that you not only keep him quiet but you are

:19:51. > :19:55.aware of his golf outsole we are aware of the opposition and respect

:19:56. > :20:04.the opposition but we are in a good place. Derby County playful and if

:20:05. > :20:12.Gary row at follows up his first win as the Rams manager with another

:20:13. > :20:17.then his team will move five points within -- fibres cause additional

:20:18. > :20:23.106. What is good for us is it is a great challenge, every game we can

:20:24. > :20:27.go until we try and win the game. There is no point in is going in and

:20:28. > :20:32.being tentative. We want to dominate games of football and win the game.

:20:33. > :20:39.Nottingham Forest go to Wolves and the manager looking for his first

:20:40. > :20:49.win as the boss, with points vital as for this battle for championship

:20:50. > :20:53.survival. The on-board ideas, the good players and the good

:20:54. > :20:57.professionals and I'm pleased with them. We have worked to do still but

:20:58. > :21:00.I have no doubt about the commitment. Hopefully we can move

:21:01. > :21:03.forward from here. In rugby, the Leicester Tigers

:21:04. > :21:06.new head coach, Matt O'Connor is due The club have a crucial game against

:21:07. > :21:11.Bath at Twickenham at the weekend. Geordan Murphy's preparing

:21:12. > :21:13.the team for the match It's been moved to Twickenham

:22:08. > :22:11.doesn't matter because you just have to move on. The Derbyshire athlete
