:00:00. > :00:00.Tonight - the reaction here as the PM calls a snap

:00:00. > :00:11.The East Midlands will be a key election battle ground.

:00:12. > :00:13.But was Theresa May right to call it?

:00:14. > :00:18.Well, I think it about time we had one.

:00:19. > :00:20.I don't think it was the right action.

:00:21. > :00:35.All the build-up from the stadium, with Leicester on the brink

:00:36. > :00:39.And I'm soaking up the atmosphere with the fans ahead of Leicester's

:00:40. > :00:55.Good evening, welcome to Tuesday's programme

:00:56. > :00:56.with Dominic Heale and me, Anne Davies.

:00:57. > :01:01.For the second time in less than 12 months, the country

:01:02. > :01:05.The snap election on June the 8th will throw the spotlight

:01:06. > :01:10.onto the East Midlands once again, as a key political battleground.

:01:11. > :01:13.Well, this is how the political map looks at the moment.

:01:14. > :01:16.Two years ago, the Conservatives took 18 seats, mainly

:01:17. > :01:21.in the more rural areas, while Labour's power lay

:01:22. > :01:23.in the cities and former mining districts, with 14 MPs.

:01:24. > :01:25.The Lib Dems failed to make an impression.

:01:26. > :01:27.On the streets of Nottingham and Leicester today,

:01:28. > :01:30.people gave their reaction to the unexpected election in just

:01:31. > :01:44.Well, I think it's about time we had one.

:01:45. > :01:49.I didn't think there would be one so soon.

:01:50. > :01:51.I just read one headline that said, a snap annihilation

:01:52. > :01:55.That's probably what they're going with.

:01:56. > :01:59.One vote is one vote and to go through it all again

:02:00. > :02:02.is going to confuse people, so I think it shouldn't

:02:03. > :02:07.Everybody in their lives, they need change.

:02:08. > :02:13.I don't think it was the right action.

:02:14. > :02:22.I've only just seen it on the train so it's a bit of a shock.

:02:23. > :02:26.Anyone that was leading anything, a business or a country,

:02:27. > :02:29.would want to have a mandate and I think that's

:02:30. > :02:32.Well, she wasn't really elected, was she?

:02:33. > :02:37.She was put in there, so this will show how popular she is.

:02:38. > :02:45.I voted for Brexit and I will vote again.

:02:46. > :02:51.I think it's a really good tactic and it's a guaranteed win, isn't it?

:02:52. > :02:53.The Prime Minister's announcement seems to have caught

:02:54. > :02:58.After she repeatedly said it was not an option she's changed her mind

:02:59. > :03:04.Our political editor Tony Roe has been gauging reaction from our MPs

:03:05. > :03:09.to what is another tumultuous day in the world of politics.

:03:10. > :03:18.At the end of last week, I was out filming with the Tory party

:03:19. > :03:21.The Derbyshire Dales MP was pretty relaxed,

:03:22. > :03:23.with time to stuff letterboxes with local election leaflets.

:03:24. > :03:26.His life might just become a little busier over the next six weeks.

:03:27. > :03:31.I was on the phone to another MP who was on College Green preparing

:03:32. > :03:33.for a media photo call on the London Marathon

:03:34. > :03:39.when news came through about the Prime Ministers announcement.

:03:40. > :03:44.The camera crews were suddenly diverted and sent to Downing Street,

:03:45. > :03:47.leaving MPs stranded in their running gear.

:03:48. > :03:50.Now MPs in the East Midlands who'll be running for Oarliament have

:03:51. > :03:53.On social media Anna Soubry, the Broxtowe Conservative,

:03:54. > :03:57.called the Prime Minister decision brave and principled.

:03:58. > :03:59.And she said winning the general election would give

:04:00. > :04:03.the PM a mandate she needs for the Brexit negotiations.

:04:04. > :04:07.On the other hand, Lilian Greenwood called it a chance to, quote,

:04:08. > :04:14.Bring it on, says the Labour MP for Nottingham South.

:04:15. > :04:23.And Jon Ashworth, the Shadow Health Secretary and Leicester South MP,

:04:24. > :04:26.sent us a text which indicates that Labour want to campaign

:04:27. > :04:29.The NHS, providing every child with the very best education

:04:30. > :04:34.There's uncertainty over which of our MPs will decide

:04:35. > :04:37.There's much interest in Rushcliffe's Ken Clarke,

:04:38. > :04:45.He said he'd stand down in 2020, but the election has come early

:04:46. > :04:53.and the Rushcliffe seat survives being carved up in proposed boundary

:04:54. > :04:59.Finally, the MP with the smallest majority in the country

:05:00. > :05:09.She won for the Conservatives in 2015 by 41 votes.

:05:10. > :05:10.She too was surprised by today's announcement.

:05:11. > :05:15.She told me she's aiming to at least double her majority.

:05:16. > :05:17.As Tony's just mentioned, Amanda Solloway took Derby North

:05:18. > :05:20.with a handful of votes in 2015 and will be high

:05:21. > :05:31.Navtej Johal reports from the most marginal seat in the region.

:05:32. > :05:39.And therefore declare the Amanda Solloway is appointed as a member of

:05:40. > :05:45.Parliament for Derby not. The charcuterie that showed Amanda

:05:46. > :05:50.Solloway unseated Labour's Chris Williamson to become the MP for

:05:51. > :05:54.Derby not. The result was so tight that it took a treat returns to

:05:55. > :06:00.confirm that she had won by 31 votes. The smallest majority in the

:06:01. > :06:04.country. The outcome of the night meant that Amanda Solloway became

:06:05. > :06:08.the local MP. Few would have predicted then that just two years

:06:09. > :06:13.on she would be fighting for it it again. How have the last two years,

:06:14. > :06:18.including the referendum, affected how people will vote in Derby not?

:06:19. > :06:25.Whoever put forward Remain I will vote for. So Brexit has affected the

:06:26. > :06:30.way you thought? Well, I'm a Labour voter but I quite like Theresa May

:06:31. > :06:38.and I like her views. I used to vote Conservative now I would thought

:06:39. > :06:44.Labour. Why is that? Jeremy Corbyn. I'm not sure I will have to give

:06:45. > :06:50.that a lot of consideration. I'm not sure. You could regain API labour.

:06:51. > :06:54.Something like that. Same as I always do. Conservative. We will

:06:55. > :06:56.always vote Labour. It's a tradition. I will have to do my

:06:57. > :07:02.research and design. -- and decide. Still to come this evening -

:07:03. > :07:14.away from the polls, Don't let the sunshine for you. We

:07:15. > :07:16.have some frost across some parts of the region to write. Full forecast

:07:17. > :07:21.later. -- of the Regency night. A Derby man has admitted seven

:07:22. > :07:23.sex offences including Ilija High from Chaddesden pleaded

:07:24. > :07:30.guilty to attacking three women in Spondon and Darley Abbey

:07:31. > :07:35.between September 2014 The 23-year old will be back

:07:36. > :07:43.in front of the Crown Court again in June and has been told to expect

:07:44. > :07:52.a significant sentence. A Nottinghamshire family had been

:07:53. > :07:58.speaking about their escape from the house flight. -- house fire. Two

:07:59. > :08:06.crews were called to the property and everybody escaped but the house

:08:07. > :08:08.is uninhabitable because of smoke damage.

:08:09. > :08:11.I was just watching telly with my kids and we started to smell

:08:12. > :08:23.I just saw it sparking and popping and I just got the kids out and ran

:08:24. > :08:31.them up to my friend's house and I came back and it was ablaze.

:08:32. > :08:36.Something happened a few weeks ago and I've been wondering

:08:37. > :08:38.about it the last few weeks, the electrics.

:08:39. > :08:41.With this happening last night, I have a straightaway

:08:42. > :08:44.A neighbour phoned me and I had a feeling it was something

:08:45. > :08:48.Every year, thousands of people in the East Midlands

:08:49. > :08:50.try to kick their addictions to drugs and drink.

:08:51. > :08:53.In Derbyshire, these rehab programmes have

:08:54. > :08:57.just been merged to form a new single service.

:08:58. > :08:59.The person leading this project is a former addict

:09:00. > :09:09.Our social affairs correspondent, Jeremy Ball, has been to meet her.

:09:10. > :09:17.I love what I do. I love to wake up in the morning. Rosie's enthusiasm

:09:18. > :09:24.comes from recovering from the depths of despair. She was 14 and

:09:25. > :09:29.she started to use cannabis. That glitter harder class a drugs. As she

:09:30. > :09:34.puts it, she went off the rails. I got caught and I was told I would go

:09:35. > :09:38.to prison for two years. That was my massive wake-up call. I realised I

:09:39. > :09:42.didn't want to do it any more. I drink my family for support.

:09:43. > :09:50.Entering, I went to the drugs services and said can you help me?

:09:51. > :09:56.I've been unstoppable since. Now she is helping addicts and support

:09:57. > :10:01.workers. It's called Intuitive Thinking. It's about taking better

:10:02. > :10:05.choices to reform your behaviour. I have learned things about the brain

:10:06. > :10:17.that I did install. It's become clear why I have any -- and

:10:18. > :10:21.addiction. What makes this new servers so different? People can

:10:22. > :10:31.throw themselves and this and other services are all together under one

:10:32. > :10:35.roof. The Place is one of the four centres. They work together with

:10:36. > :10:40.charities, trainers and addiction counsellors. We save lives and when

:10:41. > :10:45.you get people to save -- to make these changes, even small changes,

:10:46. > :10:50.can make a huge difference. I am living my life to the full and I'm

:10:51. > :10:56.getting a buzz out of getting up in the morning. It's amazing to be

:10:57. > :11:00.helping people. It's fantastic. It's hard to believe that it's only three

:11:01. > :11:02.years since Rose started her treatment. Now she is a shining

:11:03. > :11:06.example and to future looks bright. The anticipation is building

:11:07. > :11:09.in Leicester as the Foxes attempt to qualify for the semi-finals

:11:10. > :11:12.of the biggest tournament in Europe, And it's not just football

:11:13. > :11:18.fans who are relishing the club's success in

:11:19. > :11:23.the competition so far. Businesses are too -

:11:24. > :11:25.the City Council believes visits from European fans could be worth

:11:26. > :11:27.around ?5 million to Amy Harris is live in Jubilee Square

:11:28. > :11:33.for us this evening and Amy it looks Yes, Jubilee Square is full

:11:34. > :11:43.of life this evening - as you can see Athletico Madrid fans

:11:44. > :11:51.are gathering here before heading to the King Power

:11:52. > :11:57.Stadium for the game - as away fans have done for four

:11:58. > :12:08.other games in earlier stages We fans have spent a lot of time

:12:09. > :12:09.here today as many either visiting games have an earlier stages of the

:12:10. > :12:10.competition. And of course they don't just bring

:12:11. > :12:13.support, they bring money too. Swapping Madrid for the Midlands -

:12:14. > :12:16.fans in fine voice ahead of tonight's Champions League

:12:17. > :12:19.clash with Leicester. While they're here to support

:12:20. > :12:22.their team, many are also keen to see the city where football

:12:23. > :12:28.dreams were made. Most people definitely come

:12:29. > :12:32.for the football game but I hear a lot of people on the plane

:12:33. > :12:35.that they wanted to We will have a small stroll,

:12:36. > :12:45.half an hour's time just to see. Of course away fans don't just stay

:12:46. > :13:01.here in the fanzone, In fact, a study by the Montford

:13:02. > :13:04.University estimates that this is some European fans could be worth ?5

:13:05. > :13:05.million to Leicester's economy. They go and eat and have something

:13:06. > :13:09.to drink but they are spending money on things like high items,

:13:10. > :13:11.jewellery, clothing, shoes, particularly for some reason,

:13:12. > :13:13.all over the city and they've been Richard III has seen a huge increase

:13:14. > :13:19.and it's really good At this pub, just metres

:13:20. > :13:26.from the fanzone in Jubilee Square, On the days of the games,

:13:27. > :13:38.I've seen sales figures triple. From a usual Tuesday,

:13:39. > :13:44.every day has been a Tuesday and I've seen the figures get huge just

:13:45. > :13:46.because there's more people And there's also safety

:13:47. > :14:00.benefits from the fanzone. The police say it's helped

:14:01. > :14:02.control the crowds. We found that it is a really

:14:03. > :14:05.important part of the overall set of ingredients to running a safe

:14:06. > :14:08.and successful football operation. Of course, the visitors

:14:09. > :14:11.and their spending power depend on what happens tonight

:14:12. > :14:13.on the pitch. Both Leicester fans and local

:14:14. > :14:15.businesses will hope Well, the game will be underway

:14:16. > :14:18.in about an hour's time. The big question -

:14:19. > :14:21.can Leicester overturn that one-goal Our sports editor Natalie Jackson

:14:22. > :14:28.is at the King Power Stadium. Can the Foxes surprise

:14:29. > :14:34.everyone again? Well, they came back

:14:35. > :14:37.from the dead against Seville in the last round but tonight

:14:38. > :14:40.against Athletico Madrid here - Once again many have written them

:14:41. > :14:52.off, but Leicester and the fans Inside the stadium the noise

:14:53. > :15:00.will be earth-shattering. Leicester are just one game

:15:01. > :15:02.away from the last four And according to a European Cup

:15:03. > :15:17.winner and one of the player's proud -- And according to

:15:18. > :15:19.a European Cup winner the team are in no mood

:15:20. > :15:22.for this amazing European adventure to end just yet,

:15:23. > :15:24.as Colin Hazelden reports. When Peter Schmeichel lifted

:15:25. > :15:26.the European cup in 1999, can he possibly have imagined

:15:27. > :15:30.watching his son Kasper standing on the edge

:15:31. > :15:32.of a Champions League semifinal? The Leicester players tomorrow

:15:33. > :15:36.have just got to believe You have a look around here,

:15:37. > :15:42.they know they are not The atmosphere, all this

:15:43. > :15:46.is going to make a fantastic The players will feed off it,

:15:47. > :15:52.absolutely no doubt about that. They have decked the stadium

:15:53. > :15:56.and you can't question the fans. The players, well, there

:15:57. > :15:59.they were at the weekend, scoring again in a draw

:16:00. > :16:02.with Crystal Palace. Their eyes half on tonight,

:16:03. > :16:07.they are hoping to ride the belief. There simply are 12 men that

:16:08. > :16:10.can carry us to win. When I saw the stadium before,

:16:11. > :16:13.I knew that something special will happen tomorrow again and I'm

:16:14. > :16:17.fired up and looking forward to it. But in training, they knew full well

:16:18. > :16:20.in firing themselves up they also You have to have that

:16:21. > :16:27.fire in your belly but you also have to have the cool,

:16:28. > :16:31.smart head at times. We've proved over the last 18

:16:32. > :16:34.months that we are more As for the father-son double act,

:16:35. > :16:43.he was Kasper the captain on Sunday, can he be Schmeichel the saviour

:16:44. > :16:49.on the night? I've been very, very good for many

:16:50. > :16:52.years to keep a lid on it. When he saved the penalty

:16:53. > :16:55.against Seville, I found myself standing up, you know,

:16:56. > :17:04.fist-bumping and clapping and, you know, sometimes you get carried

:17:05. > :17:07.away but it's what it should be. If Leicester win,

:17:08. > :17:12.surely he won't behave. Well, more from here

:17:13. > :17:16.in a moment, but it's been a busy Easter of sport -

:17:17. > :17:18.among the headlines - a relegation battle looms

:17:19. > :17:20.for Nottingham Forest, the Leicester Tigers edge

:17:21. > :17:22.near the play-offs and two Derby County had

:17:23. > :17:34.a disappointing Easter. A bad start with a 4-0 defeat

:17:35. > :17:37.at Redford was followed by this opening goal

:17:38. > :17:39.for Huddersfield last night. The defence took the part

:17:40. > :17:42.Jacob Butterfield's deflected equaliser, small comfort

:17:43. > :17:51.for a season that promised so much. Nottingham Forest in

:17:52. > :17:53.the relegation fight Yesterday's 1-0 loss

:17:54. > :17:56.at Cardiff leaves them just a point from the drop zone

:17:57. > :17:59.with three games remaining. Mansfield Town let slip valuable

:18:00. > :18:02.points as a whole cluster of teams They could only draw 1-1 with Luton,

:18:03. > :18:11.but watch the frustrated goalkeeper. This goal from Jorge Grant

:18:12. > :18:15.couldn't stop Notts County losing their unbeaten home record

:18:16. > :18:17.under Kevin Nolan. Visitors Portsmouth won 3-1 to seal

:18:18. > :18:20.promotion to League 1. In rugby, Ben Youngs caught

:18:21. > :18:24.Newcastle asleep with this timely try to give Leicester Tigers a bonus

:18:25. > :18:27.point win and make them firm favourites to grab

:18:28. > :18:29.the fourth play-off place, Youngs will help scores

:18:30. > :18:34.like this will see him in the British Lions squad,

:18:35. > :18:37.which is named tomorrow. And in basketball, both

:18:38. > :18:44.the Leicester Riders and the women's team the Nottingham Wildcats spent

:18:45. > :18:46.the weekend celebrating Both are now going to the play-offs,

:18:47. > :18:50.hoping to reach the play-offs finals Well, there is so much anticipation

:18:51. > :18:59.here tonight with Leicester on the brink of a place

:19:00. > :19:07.in the final four. Former Leicester City striker

:19:08. > :19:10.Gerry Taggart has been to every game home in the Champions League,

:19:11. > :19:13.so a short time ago our Sports Editor Natalie Jackson

:19:14. > :19:21.asked him what Leicester have to do There is concern is the defence. Wes

:19:22. > :19:27.Morgan is back and we've heard his name is on the team sheet. He has

:19:28. > :19:35.been injured, of course. This is the issue from. The defence has been

:19:36. > :19:39.ripped out. Robert suspended for tonight. It will be very cagey but

:19:40. > :19:43.there was no doubt about it. When you take the part of your defence

:19:44. > :19:54.out, it would cost you. It is a big blow for Leicester. It was a

:19:55. > :20:03.penalty, they should not have lost. Will this sense of injustice helped

:20:04. > :20:09.destroy the players, crowd on? -- helps to motivate the players. He

:20:10. > :20:12.will leave no stone unturned, whether tactically or emotionally.

:20:13. > :20:20.Those players will go out and give what they have for this club. Make

:20:21. > :20:27.no mistake about that. The ideal is not to concede a goal or match, and

:20:28. > :20:36.to win. It is simple when you put it like that. But they have two score

:20:37. > :20:47.two goals. Athletic Madrid are masters on the pitch. Great

:20:48. > :20:54.prediction, can they do it? 2-0. You think so? Absolutely. They did move

:20:55. > :21:06.us to around. -- they did it in the last round. Why can't they do it? A

:21:07. > :21:08.lot of the fans are also saying 2-0. What an incredible journey from

:21:09. > :21:17.Leicester City. The fans have adequate the memories out of this

:21:18. > :21:22.Champions League champion. -- incredible memories. We will have

:21:23. > :21:27.the results in our late bulletin. Thank you very much indeed. I'm

:21:28. > :21:30.looking forward to that. If you want the results, we are not on 12 ten to

:21:31. > :21:39.11. A beautiful evening for a game of

:21:40. > :21:43.football but perhaps a little bit chilly. Don't let the sunshine for

:21:44. > :21:47.you. Some brightness across the region today but it will be cooler

:21:48. > :21:54.as the cost of the course of the evening. Thank you for the viewers

:21:55. > :21:57.are sending on these pictures. A frosty start tomorrow but bright

:21:58. > :22:04.spells after that. The veto from earlier on today, some patchy cloud

:22:05. > :22:07.across the region. Looking at the charts, we can see high pressure in

:22:08. > :22:14.charge of the weather. This is sticking with us for the next few

:22:15. > :22:18.days. This might bring some rain but nothing too heavy. Looking at the

:22:19. > :22:25.detail of a night, some scattered cloud but under clearer skies

:22:26. > :22:30.temperatures. In towns and cities, 3-5 C. In the countryside, below

:22:31. > :22:34.freezing potentially. Expect a frosty certain places tomorrow
