:00:00. > :00:12.Tonight - a motorcyclist's arrested on suspicion of murdering

:00:13. > :00:25.Police are investigating if an incident in this Derbyshire village

:00:26. > :00:34.was huge. It's shocking. I was out here with him. Really shaken up.

:00:35. > :00:41.Battle stations, all our MPs bar one vote for a snap election in June.

:00:42. > :00:47.Plus the roadworks on the M1 which local businesses are saying cause

:00:48. > :00:52.nightmare delays. And the renaissance of the textile

:00:53. > :00:53.industry in the East Midlands. Huge investment means dozens of jobs are

:00:54. > :00:58.being created. Welcome to Wednesday's

:00:59. > :01:01.programme with Anne Davies But first, the battle

:01:02. > :01:07.lines are drawn. MPs today voted overwhelmingly

:01:08. > :01:10.in favour of holding a snap It came as no surprise,

:01:11. > :01:16.and only 13 voted against - including the veteran Labour MP

:01:17. > :01:21.for Bolsover, Dennis Skinner. Parliament now has two weeks to push

:01:22. > :01:25.through whatever legislation it can before campaigning

:01:26. > :01:28.starts in earnest. Our political editor Tony Roe has

:01:29. > :01:44.spent the day in Westminster A bit of news first about two of our

:01:45. > :01:52.long-standing MPs, Kenneth Clarke, the former Chancellor, father of the

:01:53. > :01:58.House of Commons, MP since 1970, will stand in the general election.

:01:59. > :02:03.He said he would stand down in 2020 but he will continue until the next

:02:04. > :02:08.election, and Dame Margaret Beckett, the longest serving woman MP in the

:02:09. > :02:12.history of Parliament, will be standing if she gets the backing of

:02:13. > :02:22.her constituency. I'm joined by Vernon Coaker and Andrew Bridgeton.

:02:23. > :02:26.Vernon, you have been an MP for 20 years, fighting for 30 years. Your

:02:27. > :02:33.seat is vulnerable and always has been. It has always been a seat that

:02:34. > :02:40.people said Labour did well to win it but they will lose it, that has

:02:41. > :02:45.been said for 20 years. I'm a local candidate, I know lots of people

:02:46. > :02:51.locally and fought for local issues and I will be a champion for the

:02:52. > :02:55.area. The Conservatives will be the main challengers as they always are,

:02:56. > :03:00.but they will be someone who stands up for the government so it will be

:03:01. > :03:07.for the people of Gedling to choose whether they want a local champion

:03:08. > :03:12.horse who does what is. Yours is a bellwether seat, it always goes to

:03:13. > :03:19.the party who wins. Will you campaign on Brexit? We will fight

:03:20. > :03:24.this campaign on our record in government, huge economic growth,

:03:25. > :03:29.drops in unemployment locally, a positive message and we aim to give

:03:30. > :03:33.the Prime Minister a strengthened mandate to negotiate in the most

:03:34. > :03:40.important negotiations we have faced in my lifetime. What issues were

:03:41. > :03:47.Labour say you have failed, health, education and the economy? Tooth

:03:48. > :03:55.spent money on schools and health you need a stronger economy. Labour

:03:56. > :04:02.say they will spend more. Where is the money coming from? We wouldn't

:04:03. > :04:08.have introduced cuts in inheritance tax which benefited the well off, so

:04:09. > :04:14.there is a cash increase but a real terms crisis for schools. We will

:04:15. > :04:21.hear more about that for the next seven weeks. Parliament has two

:04:22. > :04:25.weeks left and they finish their day before the local elections.

:04:26. > :04:27.Still to come, we're live from the scene of roadworks

:04:28. > :04:29.around the M1 which, it's claimed, are costing thousands

:04:30. > :04:41.Happy anniversary to the service that for 30 years has produced

:04:42. > :04:42.nearly 3000 meals a day and delivered them across

:04:43. > :04:46.Nottinghamshire. But next this evening,

:04:47. > :04:49.a motorcyclist is being questioned on suspicion of murdering

:04:50. > :04:52.an elderly motorist. Derbyshire Police say

:04:53. > :04:56.they're investigating Their vehicles collided outside

:04:57. > :05:02.a pub in Grassmoor last night. Our Social Affairs Correspondent,

:05:03. > :05:04.Jeremy Ball, is there. Neighbours here described

:05:05. > :05:16.a shocking scene. What appeared to start as a road

:05:17. > :05:19.accident developed into a row, that's now prompted

:05:20. > :05:22.a murder inquiry. Today the police have been doing

:05:23. > :05:26.house to house inquiries. They say the driver died

:05:27. > :05:28.in hospital, after what they're describing as a "physical

:05:29. > :05:33.altercation". They say road rage is

:05:34. > :05:35.one line of inquiry. And I've been speaking to a woman

:05:36. > :05:38.who was here last night. We just heard a commotion outside

:05:39. > :05:41.so I looked out the window and saw a motorbike and I thought

:05:42. > :05:45.they did my car so I came out to see what were going off but it wasn't

:05:46. > :05:48.and I just asked the elderly gentleman how he was and helped him

:05:49. > :05:52.out more than anything else. Really upsetting,

:05:53. > :05:56.it's just shocking. What do we know about

:05:57. > :06:06.the man who died? He hasn't been formally

:06:07. > :06:09.identified yet. But the police say

:06:10. > :06:13.he was 74 years old. And neighbours tell me he lived

:06:14. > :06:17.nearby, and he was a regular As for the 30-year-old motorcyclist,

:06:18. > :06:27.he's now in custody Derbyshire Police are still

:06:28. > :06:37.appealing for witnesses. Police have released details

:06:38. > :06:41.of a man they want to trace in connection with a series

:06:42. > :06:44.of burglaries in Nottinghamshire. 34-year-old Zbigniew Mirga

:06:45. > :06:48.is described as white, Polish and of medium build

:06:49. > :06:50.with dark hair. One of the incidents

:06:51. > :06:53.being investigated was a distraction burglary involving

:06:54. > :06:57.an elderly person. About a thousand cannabis plants

:06:58. > :07:00.with a street value of half a million pounds have been found

:07:01. > :07:03.during a raid at a former The plants were growing across two

:07:04. > :07:08.floors of the former The property on Cordy Lane used

:07:09. > :07:14.to be called the Yew Tree. You look at the premises

:07:15. > :07:22.and the square feet that this occupies, it's actually not very

:07:23. > :07:26.feasible to find it Yes, we find some in farm buildings

:07:27. > :07:30.and we find some like this in derelict buildings

:07:31. > :07:32.but your average person that grows cannabis does so in a bedroom

:07:33. > :07:36.or upstairs of a house so the thousand plants

:07:37. > :07:39.that were recovered here A business which delivers specialist

:07:40. > :07:47.beds to seriously ill hospital patients is blaming roadworks

:07:48. > :07:51.on and around the M1 Medstrom describes the rush hour

:07:52. > :07:57.gridlock around Junction 23A as a nightmare for them

:07:58. > :08:02.and other businesses. Jo Healey is at Junction 23A

:08:03. > :08:21.where rush-hour traffic has been It doesn't look too bad to night so

:08:22. > :08:25.far. We are no longer in the thick of Rush Bach, plus there is less

:08:26. > :08:30.traffic on the road this week because it is the Easter holiday

:08:31. > :08:37.week but motorists here say it has been horrendous. They are also

:08:38. > :08:42.dreading the weeks and months ahead. It doesn't just impact individual

:08:43. > :08:47.motorists but also local villagers like Di 's worth and Castle

:08:48. > :08:50.Donington, with cars going through them trying to find local routes,

:08:51. > :08:52.and it impacts local businesses. Around 20 times a day they head out

:08:53. > :08:55.to deliver paediatric and adult beds to hospitals across the country,

:08:56. > :08:58.often with a two-hour time limit to reach the patient,

:08:59. > :09:01.but now they say they're Sometimes we can be sat for an hour

:09:02. > :09:08.around the corner and we're under pressure to get these products

:09:09. > :09:23.to the patients who are So why all the roadworks? Work

:09:24. > :09:31.started recently too wide and 7.5 miles at the M1. But at the same

:09:32. > :09:37.time, the major East Midlands Gateway scheme is being built by the

:09:38. > :09:39.side of the A453. Two separate lots of roadworks, same area.

:09:40. > :09:41.Rush hour, we have a gridlock situation where access

:09:42. > :09:44.from the East Midlands Airport onto the A453 and off the M1 just

:09:45. > :09:47.grinds to a halt and I've seen really dangerous behaviour.

:09:48. > :09:50.How there wasn't an accident I just don't know.

:09:51. > :09:55.They say traffic heading for the A50 at Junction 24 is being encouraged

:09:56. > :10:01.to come off the motorway here at Junction 23A to avoid

:10:02. > :10:04.the roadworks on the M1 but what they're then doing

:10:05. > :10:09.is hitting roadworks here on the A453, which businesses

:10:10. > :10:14.The Highways Agency say they are working

:10:15. > :10:30.Work is set to continue here until the end of next year.

:10:31. > :10:37.But of course ultimately this is about investment and the improvement

:10:38. > :10:41.of transport in this area and the Highways Agency says it wants

:10:42. > :10:49.feedback from motorists in the months to come. Be aware that from

:10:50. > :10:53.tonne night, from 9pm until 5am tomorrow, this stretch of the A453

:10:54. > :10:58.will close completely and according to the site over there it will be

:10:59. > :11:03.like that every night for the next two weeks.

:11:04. > :11:05.There's been an angry reaction after a number of trees

:11:06. > :11:07.were vandalised at an award-winning park for the second

:11:08. > :11:11.The new saplings had been planted at West Park in Long Eaton

:11:12. > :11:13.to replace older trees that had died.

:11:14. > :11:15.They were found damaged after the Easter weekend.

:11:16. > :11:17.Erewash Borough Council is asking people to call the police

:11:18. > :11:24.People have taken the time and effort to go and plant these

:11:25. > :11:27.and make it look like a nice environment for people

:11:28. > :11:30.and families to go and play in and have a nice time in,

:11:31. > :11:33.and people have just destroyed it, and I think it's quite sad.

:11:34. > :11:36.When you see it, it is downright disgusting and I think in a way

:11:37. > :11:40.The council have paid to make the park a better place

:11:41. > :11:42.for the community and with this being vandalised,

:11:43. > :11:48.Next, the East Midlands industry experiencing a revival.

:11:49. > :11:52.New figures show that, in the last four years,

:11:53. > :11:54.around 600 jobs have been created in the region's

:11:55. > :12:00.It's down to a combination of government and private investment.

:12:01. > :12:04.But manufacturers say, given that this is a ?9 billion

:12:05. > :12:07.a year UK industry, even more investment is needed.

:12:08. > :12:18.William Ball has been in Ilkeston for 186 years,

:12:19. > :12:29.The managing director kept me from the 19th-century building to show me

:12:30. > :12:38.the new manufacturing sector just behind. This is for the aerospace

:12:39. > :12:40.industry, this is for medical use in hospitals and then this is for

:12:41. > :12:41.fabrics. Recent government investment saw

:12:42. > :12:45.the growth of jobs here. It safeguards 14 jobs,

:12:46. > :12:58.so it is significant. Investment has been across the

:12:59. > :13:07.region. The textile growth fund says textile firms have invested one

:13:08. > :13:13.point -- millions of pounds of their own money, creating 540 jobs, the

:13:14. > :13:19.largest number in Leicestershire. But the chairman of the cities

:13:20. > :13:23.manufacturing association say they could get more jobs if they get

:13:24. > :13:35.backing for our proper training centre in the city. We would like to

:13:36. > :13:41.do more in the Leicester economy and the European economy. After Brexit

:13:42. > :13:43.we will have to contribute more towards the English economy and we

:13:44. > :13:50.would like to tell people involved in the textile business, please

:13:51. > :13:56.support us. Do you think the powers that be underestimated the strength

:13:57. > :14:00.of the textile industry? Absolutely, they did a study that found it

:14:01. > :14:06.generates ?9 billion for the economy. Despite this the company

:14:07. > :14:12.believes their investment is looking good for the future, while Leicester

:14:13. > :14:16.say if training improved, they can attract better trained staff into

:14:17. > :14:25.the industry. Fingers crossed! Seeing that bit of

:14:26. > :14:28.cloth... Collen is always good for the suits.

:14:29. > :14:31.Thank you, I make an effort. Leicester City's charge

:14:32. > :14:34.at the Champions League ends at the hands of last year s

:14:35. > :14:36.finalists Atletico Madrid. They once again defied odds

:14:37. > :14:38.and expectations to get For a while last night,

:14:39. > :14:42.it felt like they might even But first, here's Mark Shardlow's

:14:43. > :14:47.report on a journey's end. It's been a magical ride,

:14:48. > :14:49.one they'll never forget. After 90 minutes there

:14:50. > :15:02.was just nothing left. As a football club I think we can be

:15:03. > :15:06.proud of how we conducted ourselves It's pretty sad that the dream

:15:07. > :15:11.ends here for us but We have to be proud of ourselves,

:15:12. > :15:14.we gave it our all. Leicester, 1-0 down from the first

:15:15. > :15:18.leg, soon found themselves needing It's not all over but it

:15:19. > :15:23.will be some story A half-time shake-up and a second

:15:24. > :15:30.half of hope, passion and a goal. Albrighton gets across

:15:31. > :15:33.it, back post header. Leicester have got a lifeline,

:15:34. > :15:48.it's Jamie Vardy! When we scored that one,

:15:49. > :15:52.I had that feeling, I just felt Leicester had 22 shots

:15:53. > :15:57.on the night but the ball wasn't bouncing their way and as much

:15:58. > :16:00.as they attacked, for once in this crazy two years,

:16:01. > :16:08.it wasn't going to be their night. Well, who says there's

:16:09. > :16:11.no glory in defeat? It's been brilliant,

:16:12. > :16:13.a great journey. We've done so well, and it's

:16:14. > :16:16.moments like this that make So Britain's last

:16:17. > :16:23.remaining club are out. But despite the doubters,

:16:24. > :16:28.Leicester have never looked out If you said it you wouldn't believe

:16:29. > :16:36.it, you can't believe it's happened. We're no longer a small club,

:16:37. > :16:40.this is a big club. It's been a wonderful adventure

:16:41. > :16:45.and let's hope we can do it again. They look down and out there,

:16:46. > :17:05.but Leicester have reached heights they can never

:17:06. > :17:06.have dreamed of. Well, former Foxes star

:17:07. > :17:12.Gerry Taggart is here. Let's start with your

:17:13. > :17:14.feelings about last night. Did you have points

:17:15. > :17:27.where you thought, It was a very difficult game, the

:17:28. > :17:33.first half especially, that was one of the best defensive displays I

:17:34. > :17:39.have ever seen, Atletico Madrid work awesome and how they were organised

:17:40. > :17:40.without the ball. In the second half Craig Shakespeare had to change

:17:41. > :17:42.something and it worked. What were your emotions like

:17:43. > :17:53.as you watched that second half? When the first goal went in, we all

:17:54. > :17:57.thought momentum is back, we're in charge, but they needed that second

:17:58. > :18:02.goal and couldn't get it and in the end they ran out of steam. They gave

:18:03. > :18:03.everything they had but it wasn't enough and the best team went

:18:04. > :18:06.through. It's the end of things

:18:07. > :18:09.in the Champions League. It's the end of a two year ride,

:18:10. > :18:12.the Greatest Escape, the 5000 to one Premier League

:18:13. > :18:23.win and this. To say it's been a roller-coaster

:18:24. > :18:27.ride is an understatement, you go from the great escape to winning the

:18:28. > :18:33.league to get into the quarterfinals of a Champions League, but an

:18:34. > :18:37.amazing journey for this club and hopefully we will see something else

:18:38. > :18:43.in the future. That is the key question. You heard fans say we are

:18:44. > :18:50.not a small club anymore so what next for Leicester? Starting from

:18:51. > :18:55.next season, who will be the man in charge, and then from that you have

:18:56. > :18:59.to work out the recruitment of new players, they cannot stand still in

:19:00. > :19:06.the transfer market but who will be in charge to take the club forward

:19:07. > :19:11.next season and beyond? For me Craig Shakespeare deserves that chance. He

:19:12. > :19:14.showed he can handle the big European nights, the Premier League

:19:15. > :19:16.congestion fixtures so for me he deserves that chance.

:19:17. > :19:18.The club put on a hell of a show last night.

:19:19. > :19:21.Can they somehow keep that whole mood going?

:19:22. > :19:28.I think they have created something new and special and something

:19:29. > :19:32.exciting, we were all there to see it last night and it would make the

:19:33. > :19:37.hairs of the back of your neck stand on end, more of that please, I think

:19:38. > :19:41.that is the way it will go in future. It was amazing, thanks so

:19:42. > :19:43.much for coming in. Derbyshire swimming star Adam Peaty

:19:44. > :19:46.won the British hundred metre breaststroke title last night

:19:47. > :19:51.and promptly gave away his medal to try and inspire

:19:52. > :19:53.a swimmer for the future. and qualified for the

:19:54. > :19:59.World Championships - And afterwards found a young swimmer

:20:00. > :20:03.from Retford in the crowd If it was any medal except for my

:20:04. > :20:08.Olympic one I think I would offer to give it away because you get

:20:09. > :20:10.so many of them. I don't want to sound arrogant

:20:11. > :20:14.but for me the race is what matters, the process and going to Budapest,

:20:15. > :20:16.this is just a qualifying, hopefully giving that medal away

:20:17. > :20:21.will inspire him to train even harder for the next part

:20:22. > :20:23.of his career, and even if it's for a week or a year,

:20:24. > :20:26.maybe inspire someone. And here he is -

:20:27. > :20:28.Harry Brancham, who swims When I went to school today to show

:20:29. > :20:37.it they were all really amazed. I've followed him for quite

:20:38. > :20:50.a while now and he's my idol. And staying in the pool,

:20:51. > :20:56.there was a British record for Derbyshire's Imogen Clark

:20:57. > :20:58.in the 50 metre breastroke. Her long time county rival

:20:59. > :21:00.Sarah Vasey was a close second. And finally, congratulations

:21:01. > :21:02.to Leicester Tigers stars Both selected for the British

:21:03. > :21:05.and Irish Lions tour Now, what are you having

:21:06. > :21:19.for dinner tonight? Chances are it's something that

:21:20. > :21:23.Nottinghamshire County Council regularly cooks up for its Meals

:21:24. > :21:25.at Home service which is Around 1500 residents

:21:26. > :21:30.regularly tuck into the meals But the service's delivery drivers

:21:31. > :21:36.say they strive to provide more So Carol Hinds has been

:21:37. > :21:56.to see them in action. Chocolate sponge. Oh, lovely. Lunch

:21:57. > :22:02.is served to Victor and Brenda, the 90 and 87-year-old have been using

:22:03. > :22:08.Nottinghamshire Council's meals at home service for 18 months. Monday

:22:09. > :22:14.to Friday, at the weekend I'd do a bit of cooking for two days, it's

:22:15. > :22:22.all I can manage. It's an excellent meal and I recommend it to anyone.

:22:23. > :22:26.We produced nearly 3000 and 1000 of these go to people in their own

:22:27. > :22:33.homes, we also provide meals for a day centres and other delivery

:22:34. > :22:38.services across the country. Diane has worked for the service for 20

:22:39. > :22:43.years. Her lunchtime drop-offs take all over West Bridgford. For her at

:22:44. > :22:50.the job is more than just delivering food. The meal is important but also

:22:51. > :22:57.that safety check. It helps people when they need you and you call an

:22:58. > :23:01.ambulance or a family member. All the meals are cooked from scratch

:23:02. > :23:07.and staff site there are many benefits. It enables people to live

:23:08. > :23:13.independently and can be used as a short-term service as well as

:23:14. > :23:18.long-term. This series the service celebrates 30 years of producing

:23:19. > :23:23.meals. I suppose fish is my favourite. Fish stew or dumplings.
