:00:33. > :00:36.between men and women remains pronounced.

:00:37. > :00:42.When it comes to pay it seels the East Midlands is out of step

:00:43. > :00:47.This time round our region saw the second lowest increase

:00:48. > :00:50.in earnings in the first half of 2016, just by 9%.

:00:51. > :00:54.The medium weekly pay in the East Midlands is ?483.

:00:55. > :01:03.I check what's going into the account and it's ldss

:01:04. > :01:08.So the government should really increase it.

:01:09. > :01:17.They should give them a pay rise that would help to benefit.

:01:18. > :01:19.I think there has been underinvestment in the East

:01:20. > :01:21.Midlands, I probably see that on a daily basis.

:01:22. > :01:24.I don't think there is as mtch investment in the East Midl`nds

:01:25. > :01:27.as there is IN other part of the country.

:01:28. > :01:31.If you work it out it's not a fat lot each year.

:01:32. > :01:39.And I think with Brexit it will only get worse.

:01:40. > :01:41.Despite the introduction of the national living wage a union

:01:42. > :01:42.believes that benefits are being negated.

:01:43. > :01:47.From the introduction of the national living wage we have

:01:48. > :01:51.seen employers trying to recoup this additional cost.

:01:52. > :01:54.They have done that by trying to reduce shift premiums,

:01:55. > :01:55.overtime rates and taking away paid breaks.

:01:56. > :01:58.This has meant that people's take-home pay has stayed thd same

:01:59. > :02:03.and those below 25 have seen a reduction in that pay.

:02:04. > :02:11.Staff are the most important asset to employers and a new national

:02:12. > :02:13.living wage was unexpected as a policy announcement but as any

:02:14. > :02:16.responsible employer would do they are looking at the whole thing

:02:17. > :02:18.when it comes to costs parthcularly when you are thinking

:02:19. > :02:23.about the uncertainties we have got coming up.

:02:24. > :02:26.Men's weekly pay in the East Midlands is on average 25% higher

:02:27. > :02:28.than women's and public sector workers are doing better

:02:29. > :02:34.But if prices continue to go up post Brexit the pressure for pay

:02:35. > :02:44.A 16-year-old boy has tonight been charged with two attempted rapes
