:00:49. > :00:54.She died at this hostel in Home Hill in Queensland where she had to stay
:00:55. > :00:58.under the visa rules to do the unpaid work.
:00:59. > :01:02.29-year-old French national Smail Ayad has been charged
:01:03. > :01:06.with her murder and that of Tom Jackson from Cheshire,
:01:07. > :01:10.In the aftermath of her death, her mother Rosie has been
:01:11. > :01:14.campaigning to improve conditions for backpackers in Australia,
:01:15. > :01:20.She believes a lack of regulation on the system contributed
:01:21. > :01:24.to her daughter's death, placing her in a hostel
:01:25. > :01:30.They've got that duty of care, they need to be communicating
:01:31. > :01:33.with them, they need to be on-site at all times
:01:34. > :01:38.Yesterday, her campaign received a helping hand -
:01:39. > :01:42.a letter from the Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull
:01:43. > :01:47.which includes a pledge of $20 million to help crack down
:01:48. > :01:51.on employers who exploit workers in Mia's position.
:01:52. > :01:55.I'm pleased, yes, I'm really delighted to have
:01:56. > :01:57.that recognition and to have that response
:01:58. > :02:01.from Malcolm Turnbull himself, that meant a lot to me,
:02:02. > :02:03.but it's where we go from here, isn't it?
:02:04. > :02:07.What I want to see him do is to implement tighter regulation
:02:08. > :02:13.of the industry in order to protect young backpackers who are working
:02:14. > :02:18.What would Mia have made of all the work that you're doing?
:02:19. > :02:22.I don't want to decide for Mia what she would have said about me.
:02:23. > :02:25.What she'd probably have said would have been,
:02:26. > :02:29."Mum, your shoes don't go with your tights" and
:02:30. > :02:33."You might have cleaned the carpet before the BBC arrived!"

:02:51. > :02:53.A prison officer's been arrested, and several others have been
:02:54. > :02:57.suspended, after a police investigation at Nottingham jail.

:03:57. > :04:00.was murdered by a fellow prisoner, there were almost 500 assaults
:04:01. > :04:04.by inmates, more than 200 of those were assaults on members of staff
:04:05. > :04:07.and this is all being blamed on a cocktail of pressures -
:04:08. > :04:14.as well as those new, more powerful drugs.
:04:15. > :04:17.And after last week's big prison riot in Birmingham, those concerns
:04:18. > :04:27.An ex judge and her husband have been jailed after forging

:07:32. > :07:33.Volunteers in Leicester have been helping homeless people in Leicester
:07:34. > :07:35.tonight with a special Christmas party.
:07:36. > :07:38.They were given hot meals, Christmas presents and clothing
:07:39. > :07:43.Organisers estimate there are around 50 homeless people
:07:44. > :07:46.in the city and wanted to give them festive cheer.
:07:47. > :07:52.There's lots of people enjoying a warm winter meal here in Leicester

:07:56. > :07:58.helped to pay for all this food and organised

:08:23. > :08:24.People that are elderly, people that aren't necessarily in the best
:08:25. > :08:29.income bracket and they need a really big helping hand
:08:30. > :08:32.during the festive period as well, so it's good to help them.

:08:35. > :08:38.Yes, it was two years ago we were outside in
:08:39. > :08:41.the Leicester market and, you know, and this time, it can get freezing
:08:42. > :08:44.so even when you're throwing a really good Christmas party,
:08:45. > :08:46.everyone's shivering and it's a really big thanks to
:08:47. > :08:49.the City Retreat who have given this venue completely free of charge
