:00:17. > :00:19.the Derbyshire mother of five at the centre of a murder

:00:20. > :00:23.Her parents, speaking to our reporter Navtej Johal,

:00:24. > :00:32.say they're unable to come to terms with her death.

:00:33. > :00:35.I didn't know they were there and there was her and her daughter.

:00:36. > :00:39.And I just couldn't believe that they were there, you know!

:00:40. > :00:44.A surprise birthday party for her mum.

:00:45. > :00:50.The mother of five was studying to become the mental health nurse.

:00:51. > :00:53.Last month, she was found at her home in Borrowash by police

:00:54. > :00:58.with serious injuries and later died in hospital.

:00:59. > :01:01.Police have linked Claire's death to that of her husband Vincent,

:01:02. > :01:03.who died after colliding with a lorry on the M1

:01:04. > :01:11.All the way up, all we could see were signs saying that the M1

:01:12. > :01:16.was shut, and we knew why, and it was like torture all the way.

:01:17. > :01:19.Things like this only happened on the news.

:01:20. > :01:23.You would never in a million years, you know, think it

:01:24. > :01:35.An inquest into Claire's death will resume later this year.

:01:36. > :01:39.Her parents, who have come from their home in Wales

:01:40. > :01:42.for Claire's funeral today, hope she will be remembered

:01:43. > :01:44.for the woman she was, rather than the circumstances

:01:45. > :01:48.The hardest thing I will miss is when she was in her car,

:01:49. > :01:51.she would put her phone on the loudspeaker and the kids

:01:52. > :02:04.Claire's 22-year-old son who was reportedly attacked

:02:05. > :02:08.with a nail gun on the day she died is now out of hospital.

:02:09. > :02:11.Her parents also told Claire's two youngest

:02:12. > :02:15.children about what happened to their mum and dad.

:02:16. > :02:18.It was the hardest thing to prepare for and when it came down

:02:19. > :02:24.to it, I don't think they really understood anyway.

:02:25. > :02:37.NHS England has confirmed two of our hospital trusts

:02:38. > :02:40.were on the highest state of alert last week as the winter strain

:02:41. > :02:44.Both United Lincolnshire Hospitals and the Leicester Hospitals

:02:45. > :02:50.It's the highest level of alert, meaning there's increased potential

:02:51. > :02:52.for patient CARE and SAFETY to be compromised.

:02:53. > :02:55.The strain has continued this week, with Nottingham's hospitals saying

:02:56. > :02:58.a shortage of community beds is a problem.

:02:59. > :02:59.A teenager's been jailed for murdering another

:03:00. > :03:05.Richard Bernard was stabbed on the doorstep of his

:03:06. > :03:07.flat at Trocadero Court in Normanton in May.

:03:08. > :03:12.Mohammed Ibrahim - who's 19 and of no fixed address -

:03:13. > :03:15.will serve at least 18 years behind bars, after being sentenced

:03:16. > :03:23.As Donald Trump was sworn in today as president of the United States,

:03:24. > :03:25.there were small demonstrations across parts of the East Midlands.

:03:26. > :03:28.Protest banners were unfurled earlier in Derbyshire,

:03:29. > :03:30.while this evening there were small rallies in Leicester

:03:31. > :03:33.and Nottingham's Old Market Square - organised by the group "Stand

:03:34. > :03:39.They told our Political Editor Tony Rowe their aim is to show solidarity

:03:40. > :03:45.with those Americans who don't want him as their president.

:03:46. > :03:57.If you want to show bigotry, you have to put up with opposition. He

:03:58. > :04:03.says he wanted to heal divisions. Are you heartened by that? He also

:04:04. > :04:08.said we need to take back our jobs and protect our borders in America,

:04:09. > :04:10.it is all about foreigners as aliens.

:04:11. > :04:12.East Midlands Today understands Nottingham is seriously

:04:13. > :04:14.considering a bid to be European Capital of Culture.

:04:15. > :04:17.The last UK city to hold the title was Liverpool nine years ago -

:04:18. > :04:19.and it'll be Britain's turn again in 2023.

:04:20. > :04:44.I think we've got the capacity and the video as the city

:04:45. > :04:49.It won't be easy and there are many people to convince it is the right

:04:50. > :04:52.way forward but what I would say is if we were to go forward

:04:53. > :05:01.with a date, we have the ingredients to make something great happen.

:05:02. > :05:04.A few weeks ago, huge celebrations in Hull which picked Lester

:05:05. > :05:08.The European accolade is an altogether good deal.

:05:09. > :05:12.Last held in Britain by Liverpool in 2008.

:05:13. > :05:15.It is really known as the point in time when Liverpool

:05:16. > :05:26.We have carried on the legacy. We have huge international tourism.

:05:31. > :05:33.Nottingham has a lot going for it, not least the contemporary art

:05:34. > :05:35.gallery, it will face fierce competition from Leeds,

:05:36. > :05:40.And other major cities are expect to follow them.

:05:41. > :05:45.Key to winning will be getting the whole city to back that good.

:05:46. > :05:59.I can't see what difference it will make.

:06:00. > :06:03.I haven't lived in another UK city which for this size has had so many
