:00:20. > :00:23.First the big news tonight that Leicester City have sacked

:00:24. > :00:27.It comes just nine months after he led the Foxes

:00:28. > :00:30.Our sports editor, Natalie Jackson, is with us.

:00:31. > :00:39.Well Leicester have only won five Premier League games all season.

:00:40. > :00:43.They haven't scored a league goal in 2017 and are one point

:00:44. > :00:47.above the relegation zone and are at risk of becoming

:00:48. > :00:52.the first defending champions to be relegated since 1938.

:00:53. > :01:01.Tonight in a statement the club said:

:01:02. > :01:08.We reluctantly feel that a change of leadership had to happen. I

:01:09. > :01:12.understand Claudio Ranieri was told the news this afternoon when he

:01:13. > :01:20.arrived back in the country after last night's 2-1 defeat in the

:01:21. > :01:23.Champions League. It seems Claudio Ranieri had no idea it was coming.

:01:24. > :01:26.When we play with this character, also the luck come in your side.

:01:27. > :01:28.We are to continue this way. We are to keep going.

:01:29. > :01:31.Now we know our focus is on the Liverpool match because it

:01:32. > :01:36.could be a turning point but it is important we make another

:01:37. > :01:52.Tonight the sporting world is in shock. You only have to look on

:01:53. > :01:58.social media. Claudio Ranieri got Leicester to the Premier League

:01:59. > :02:03.title by ten viewpoints. He was seen as a miracle maker. Look at some of

:02:04. > :02:10.the tweets. Gary Lineker said to sack in now is unforgivable. Michael

:02:11. > :02:16.Vaughan added he hopes Leicester get relegated now. Michael Owen said I

:02:17. > :02:22.have lost a lot of love for the beautiful game today. The sacking

:02:23. > :02:29.seems very ruthless to many but the owners felt they had to act now. To

:02:30. > :02:32.go down would be a financial disaster and everything achieved

:02:33. > :02:34.last season will be tainted. Thank you.

:02:35. > :02:37.Storm Doris has just about moved away from the East Midlands tonight

:02:38. > :02:40.after leaving a trail of damage and disruption.

:02:41. > :02:43.Trains, motorways and roads have been seriously affected

:02:44. > :02:46.and the knock-on effects will be felt tomorrow.

:02:47. > :02:49.In a moment we will hear from James Roberson with a round-up

:02:50. > :02:51.of today's events but first Geeta Pendse reports

:02:52. > :02:57.There have been severe disruptions for travellers today

:02:58. > :03:01.with East Midlands Trains advising passengers to abandon

:03:02. > :03:05.One of the problem started around 9am this morning

:03:06. > :03:10.when there was damage to an overhead wire at St Albans station.

:03:11. > :03:14.This meant that trains in and out of London were halted.

:03:15. > :03:17.Eventually East Midlands Trains had to cancel the entire service

:03:18. > :03:20.from London to Nottingham and Sheffield, having a major

:03:21. > :03:25.There were also problems elsewhere in Derby.

:03:26. > :03:27.There was disruption to the service to Crewe.

:03:28. > :03:31.East Midlands Trains say there was an unprecedented number

:03:32. > :03:35.We have had trees blown down right across the network,

:03:36. > :03:38.bringing down overhead equipment in a number of places.

:03:39. > :03:41.Lots of people have been out and about chopping trees down,

:03:42. > :03:44.restringing wires, making sure customers on trains are OK

:03:45. > :03:47.and getting people safely to where they want to go to.

:03:48. > :03:50.There were also problems on the roads, particularly in areas

:03:51. > :03:53.where trees had fallen and this afternoon three lanes on the M1

:03:54. > :03:57.southbound were closed between junction 25 and 26

:03:58. > :04:05.There are hopes that all services will be back to normal from tomorrow

:04:06. > :04:09.and East Midlands Trains say if you have a train ticket dated

:04:10. > :04:16.for today, it will be valid for travel tomorrow.

:04:17. > :04:19.The emergency services say they were inundated with calls today

:04:20. > :04:21.as a result of the storm but thankfully there

:04:22. > :04:33.James Roberson can tell us more about what happened.

:04:34. > :04:34.It was a scene replicated across the region.

:04:35. > :04:37.This tree was close to Heage and totally closed

:04:38. > :04:40.It wasn't just country roads affected.

:04:41. > :04:42.Alfreton Road in Nottingham was closed after glass blew out

:04:43. > :04:44.of a derelict building, this tree went over

:04:45. > :04:49.And a billboard was blown down in Leicester.

:04:50. > :04:52.Viewers sent in dozens of pictures, trees were obviously the biggest

:04:53. > :04:59.It meant country parks across the East Midlands were shut.

:05:00. > :05:01.But Matlock town also lost a floodlight and

:05:02. > :05:10.Attraction owners and councils also closed venues before the storm.

:05:11. > :05:13.Because the market hall in Derby was shut, these two stallholders

:05:14. > :05:19.moved just outside to an empty shop to run their businesses for the day.

:05:20. > :05:23.We are struggling enough at the moment to get all the business.

:05:24. > :05:28.Small traders are in difficulties with competition so we have to fight

:05:29. > :05:34.and basically try and get us still on the go.

:05:35. > :05:37.I'm here, I have got all the stock as you can see.

:05:38. > :05:39.I have been to the market this morning over in Nottingham.

:05:40. > :05:42.Everything is fresh and we are open for business.

:05:43. > :05:46.I mean, you come to work, you expect to work, don't you?

:05:47. > :05:47.At Heague Windmill, emergency measures were taken

:05:48. > :05:53.They didn't want a repeat of 1894's disaster when the sails and cap

:05:54. > :06:00.Well we've got all the brakes on that we can possibly put on.

:06:01. > :06:02.We've got a big strap and cargo straps around.

:06:03. > :06:05.Fingers crossed, we're going to be OK today.

:06:06. > :06:07.Motorists have been injured by falling trees.

:06:08. > :06:13.Now householders, businesses and the authorities are looking

:06:14. > :06:20.James Roberson, BBC East Midlands Today.

:06:21. > :06:24.A woman from Nottingham has been jailed because an autistic man in

:06:25. > :06:28.her care drowned while she was texting on the phone.

:06:29. > :06:31.29-year-old Nikki Deaney from Sneinton was also making

:06:32. > :06:34.calls whilst caring for Majid Akthar.

:06:35. > :06:38.They were on a day trip to Kingsmill Reservoir in September 2012.

:06:39. > :06:41.The 28-year-old, who had severe learning

:06:42. > :06:43.difficulties and a mental age of four, had wandered off.

:06:44. > :06:51.A policeman's been dismissed because he failed to spot that

:06:52. > :06:54.an elderly man with dementia had had his driving licence revoked.

:06:55. > :06:59.The man, 87-year-old Albert Newman, went on to cause a fatal accident

:07:00. > :07:03.in October last year when he drove the wrong way up the M1.

:07:04. > :07:08.Mr Newman and a passenger in a van both died.

:07:09. > :07:10.PC Jonathan Mortimer from Nottinghamshire Police was found

:07:11. > :07:17.Plans to scrap acute services at Leicester's General Hospital have

:07:18. > :07:21.been defended by the city's clinical commissioning group.

:07:22. > :07:24.The move is designed to cope with the cost of future

:07:25. > :07:30.A meeting tonight in the city gave the public its first chance to learn

:07:31. > :07:38.How does the NHS cope with an ageing population who need to use health

:07:39. > :07:43.The city of Leicester's answer to that question

:07:44. > :07:49.Sustainability and transformation plans or STPs have been devised

:07:50. > :07:52.for each area to meet increased demand and provide better value

:07:53. > :07:59.In Leicester one of the main proposals is to move acute services

:08:00. > :08:02.from Leicester's General Hospital to Glenfield and the Royal

:08:03. > :08:06.Infirmary, making the general and nonemergency care hospital.

:08:07. > :08:10.There are very few cities of this size, who have the communities

:08:11. > :08:13.of this size, which have got three large hospitals and clearly

:08:14. > :08:17.with the increasing budgetary problems in the NHS,

:08:18. > :08:21.it is very inefficient to run services at three hospitals.

:08:22. > :08:23.But the news hasn't gone down well with everyone

:08:24. > :08:27.attending tonight's meeting, designed to help local people better

:08:28. > :08:32.I think that is a plan that cannot possibly work.

:08:33. > :08:35.Under the financial constraints, they have, I can understand why

:08:36. > :08:38.they would be wanting to get rid of one hospital.

:08:39. > :08:41.It is trying to put a pint, a quart into a pint pot,

:08:42. > :08:46.How can you justify removing acute services from one of its hospitals?

:08:47. > :08:49.Won't that put more pressure on Glenfield and the LRI?

:08:50. > :08:52.Well, when we do move from three to two sites,

:08:53. > :08:56.we will invest more in the two hospitals that remain.

:08:57. > :08:59.The STP also includes more care in the community for the city

:09:00. > :09:02.and a separate midwife led maternity unit, possibly based

:09:03. > :09:09.A consultation on these plans is due later this year.

:09:10. > :09:14.Navtej Johal, BBC East Midlands today, Leicester.

:09:25. > :09:26.After an assembly he opened a new building for children

:09:27. > :09:30.It's the first time he's been back to his former school

:09:31. > :09:46.That is your news. It is goodbye from me, here is the weather. Storm

:09:47. > :09:50.Doris rattled through the region. We had dramatic skies first thing and

:09:51. > :09:54.then trees and buildings damaged across the region over the course of

:09:55. > :10:03.the afternoon. How did we stack up compared to the rest of the country.

:10:04. > :10:09.We had over 80 mph in the Peak District and 70 mph in Derbyshire.

:10:10. > :10:14.As we go through the course of tonight, we have some respite, is

:10:15. > :10:19.high pressure is building in leaving us with some fine and mostly dry

:10:20. > :10:23.weather. Not quite out of the woods with the warnings. A yellow weather

:10:24. > :10:31.warning for ice. Do take extra care overnight. Looking at the detail, we

:10:32. > :10:34.have a few showers overnight. They will be wintry over high ground and

:10:35. > :10:40.we're expecting a low of two Celsius. The winds will continue to

:10:41. > :10:46.ease over the course of tonight and going into tomorrow morning and we

:10:47. > :10:49.will have some fine and dry weather, the cloud will increase but much

:10:50. > :10:56.more settled and highs of 8 degrees. As we look ahead towards Saturday, a

:10:57. > :11:01.return to wet and windy weather but on Sunday a brief spell of respite

:11:02. > :11:03.with more settled weather on the way. I will leave you

:11:04. > :11:12.be much milder. I will leave you with Thomas Shelter.

:11:13. > :11:20.Good evening. It was quite a day for some of us. We get these sort of

:11:21. > :11:23.storms every couple of years also. Difficult to give an exact number,

:11:24. > :11:30.but it was certainly a nasty one. It's now moving into Holland,

:11:31. > :11:35.Germany, south of Denmark, and it continues to blow itself out. The

:11:36. > :11:38.winds around coasts were not particularly spectacular, but the

:11:39. > :11:46.inland winds were unusual, 62 mph in London. A trail of damage across the

:11:47. > :11:47.UK with trees falling down, mainly trees,
