:00:19. > :00:20.seven-year-old girl from Nottingham has found professionals lost sight
:00:21. > :00:24.of her needs and didn't exercise enough curiosity.
:00:25. > :00:29.Shanay Walker died in 2014 and was found to have suffered more
:00:30. > :00:32.Her aunt and grandmother were both jailed for cruelty.
:00:33. > :00:39.In assessment videos, Shanay Walker appeared
:00:40. > :00:41.to have a good relationship with her aunt, Kay-Ann Morris,
:00:42. > :00:47.Her guardian was in fact harsh, cruel and abusive to her
:00:48. > :00:51.Morris was cleared of murder, but was jailed for cruelty,
:00:52. > :00:55.along with Shanay's grandmother Juanila Smikle.
:00:56. > :00:56.The review found that concerns were raised
:00:57. > :01:03.A number of things went wrong that have been identified in our review,
:01:04. > :01:05.but in essence, information sharing and the lack of professional
:01:06. > :01:11.curiosity created all those difficulties.
:01:12. > :01:13.Why aren't things improving, in terms of information
:01:14. > :01:22.Where you have cases in safeguarding where there are at
:01:23. > :01:24.least a dozen agencies, involved in managing the case,
:01:25. > :01:26.I think it's inevitable as the consequence that
:01:27. > :01:31.some information could not be shared.
:01:32. > :01:33.There's a need to improve on that quite clearly.
:01:34. > :01:35.The board has an important role to play in it.
:01:36. > :01:37.A number of teachers raised concerns about
:01:38. > :01:40.abuse and injuries but they were not acted upon.
:01:41. > :01:42.One safeguarding form went missing and after Shanay
:01:43. > :01:44.Walker's death, it was rewritten by a head teacher and
:01:45. > :01:50.They both remain absent while an investigation
:01:51. > :01:53.Safeguarding arrangements where chaotic and that's what we've
:01:54. > :01:58.We are working with the benefit of hindsight.
:01:59. > :02:00.I am now satisfied that safeguarding arrangements as we
:02:01. > :02:03.As they are with many schools in Nottingham.
:02:04. > :02:06.Nottingham City Council says many things have changed over the last
:02:07. > :02:09.two years and it's in a stronger position to children from harm.
:02:10. > :02:10.The council, health services and schools
:02:11. > :02:12.are working much more closely on safeguarding issues.
:02:13. > :02:14.And staff are being trained have the confidence to

:02:30. > :02:31.has attended this year's traditional Maundy service at
:02:32. > :02:35.Her Majesty distributed Maundy Money to 91 men and 91 women -

:02:44. > :02:45.Thousands lined the streets, eager to catch a glimpse
:02:46. > :02:47.of the Queen as she arrived for the annual Maundy
:02:48. > :02:50.We were here at 20 past eight this morning.
:02:51. > :02:54.She looked fantastic and she was waving to everyone and smiling.
:02:55. > :03:12.It was lovely to see her and nice to see her in Leicester.
:03:13. > :03:14.At Leicester Cathedral, the Yeoman of the Guard patrol the grounds,
:03:15. > :03:18.ready for Her Majesty to carry out this most ancient of royal duties.
:03:19. > :03:22.The Maundy ceremony dates back centuries and is an important annual
:03:23. > :03:28.It has been hosted at every cathedral across the country,
:03:29. > :03:36.The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh were welcomed at the cathedral
:03:37. > :03:39.by the Dean of Leicester and the Bishop, delighted to be
:03:40. > :03:44.In her 91st year, the Queen presented 91 men and 91 women
:03:45. > :03:46.with specially minted money in two leather purses.
:03:47. > :03:47.One of the lucky recipients is Marilyn.
:03:48. > :03:59.With the ceremony over, the Royals posed for photographs,
:04:00. > :04:01.capturing what is both an historic day for the
:04:02. > :04:13.I've been talking to the Dean of Leicester about today's Royal
:04:14. > :04:20.visit which, it seems, made a great impression.
:04:21. > :04:23.The sun shone, the Queen looked radiant and
:04:24. > :04:25.the recipients were just over the moon.
:04:26. > :04:28.It's been one of the most memorable days of my life.
:04:29. > :04:30.As we have been saying, Leicester now is
:04:31. > :04:33.the last cathedral that Her Majesty has visited in terms of these Maundy
:04:34. > :04:36.That really is quite a feather in your cap, isn't it?

:04:50. > :04:53.Her Majesty was really radiant and pleased and said
:04:54. > :04:56.that she was so glad that she completed all of the cathedrals.

:05:04. > :05:06.bit scared, because, you know, not everyday you meet the Queen.

:05:19. > :05:21.and she just reached out towards him and you could see his chest puffed

:05:34. > :05:37.years ago are trying to track down an East Midlands family who could
:05:38. > :05:40.The little girl went missing from a beach just
:05:41. > :05:44.Police now say they want to speak again to the Goodyear family
:05:45. > :05:47.who were there at the time and are now believed to be
:05:48. > :05:58.The family of Cheryl Grimmer are still searching for the truth,
:05:59. > :06:02.The youngest of four, her family emigrated from Bristol
:06:03. > :06:05.Two years later, on a day at the beach with her mum
:06:06. > :06:09.the little girl disappeared from a shower block in Wollongong,
:06:10. > :06:13.Last month, nearly 50 years on, a breakthrough in the case
:06:14. > :06:15.when a 63-year-old man was charged with her abduction and murder.
:06:16. > :06:26.Now Australian detectives are trying to track down a family
:06:27. > :06:28.from Nottinghamshire that provided crucial statements to the police
:06:29. > :06:31.Detectives are trying to find the Goodyear family.
:06:32. > :06:33.They believe they were last living here at Oxton, in Nottinghamshire.
:06:34. > :06:45.In 1970, Peter Goodyear was 37 and living in
:06:46. > :06:47.Australia with his wife, Mavis, and their daughters.
:06:48. > :06:49.Karen, six and Jeanette, who was five.
:06:50. > :06:51.They gave police racial statements on the day that
:06:52. > :06:56.It has been a long time, it's 47 years.
:06:57. > :06:59.We have not spoken to the Goodyear family since
:07:00. > :07:03.that time and we would like to get in contact with them to go over some
:07:04. > :07:05.aspects of that day, as best as their memory can remember.
:07:06. > :07:08.It is a bit of an unusual request, but we
:07:09. > :07:12.have not had any contact with them and that is why we are seeking to
:07:13. > :07:15.Attempts to trace the Goodyear family have so far
:07:16. > :07:18.Detectives are now urging the family or anyone who
:07:19. > :07:30.might know them to get in contact with the police.
:07:31. > :07:33.With Brexit less than two years away, much attention's being focused
:07:34. > :07:36.on all of the EU nationals and other foreign nationals living in Britain.
:07:37. > :07:41.And, in both cases, what will be the effect on the British economy?
:07:42. > :07:44.Well, new official figures for the East Midlands have shed
:07:45. > :07:47.Our reporter Helen Astle has more details.
:07:48. > :07:59.We hear a great deal about people from other EU countries
:08:00. > :08:01.and beyond, living and working in the UK.
:08:02. > :08:03.But how many are there actually here?
:08:04. > :08:06.New figures from the Office for National Statistics answer
:08:07. > :08:17.There are 116,000 EU citizens of working age in our region
:08:18. > :08:19.and there are another 54,000 foreign nationals
:08:20. > :08:22.So what proportion of the workforce is that?
:08:23. > :08:34.Well, the percentage of foreign workers in jobs is around 8.4%.
:08:35. > :08:36.Nearly one in three foreign workers, some
:08:37. > :08:37.49,000 people, I engaged in
:08:38. > :08:39.what the ONS calls elementary occupations.
:08:40. > :08:41.Many of them in manufacturing, retail and
:08:42. > :08:47.Only about one in ten UK citizens does these kinds of
:08:48. > :08:50.The big question, then, will any restrictions on foreign workers
:08:51. > :09:02.post Brexit be good or bad for the region's economy?
:09:03. > :09:04.Hospitality is not seen as perhaps one of the most...
:09:05. > :09:07.An industry that people really want to go into.
:09:08. > :09:09.The jobs could have been filled by British
:09:10. > :09:11.workers in the past, but
:09:12. > :09:14.there is a tendency to not want to work within that sector.
:09:15. > :09:16.The stuff that we have had joined the
:09:17. > :09:18.university because they were the best person for the job
:09:19. > :09:20.at the time that we did that recruitment
:09:21. > :09:28.I think it would have a devastating impact not just for
:09:29. > :09:30.them, but on their colleagues and students that they work with.
:09:31. > :09:35.With one in 16 of our workforce from other EU
:09:36. > :09:40.countries, employers and
:09:41. > :09:42.politicians in this region will certainly be hoping for as smooth
