:02:46. > :02:49.there exists a threat all the time. It is a very recent threat but we

:02:50. > :02:51.just got to be bit to land. Just got to look after ourselves and it

:03:11. > :03:14.festival goers who say they will not let what happened on Monday put

:03:15. > :03:16.Find out more on East Midlands today.

:03:17. > :03:18.Well, amidst that increased security, police in Derby today

:03:19. > :03:20.are holding a recruitment drive at a city mosque.

:03:21. > :03:23.Officers have been speaking to members of the public

:03:24. > :03:25.at the Jamia Mosque in Normanton this afternoon.

:03:26. > :03:27.The aim of the event is for the force to better represent

:03:28. > :03:29.the communities it serves by encouraging people

:03:30. > :03:34.from more diverse backgrounds to join the police.

:03:35. > :03:38.The election campaign's reignited today with a claim by the Institute

:03:39. > :03:40.for Fiscal Studies that a new Conservative government

:03:41. > :03:44.would leave schools in England worse off than they are now.

:03:45. > :03:47.But the Tories say their pledge of extra funding will see a rise

:03:48. > :03:50.In fact, all the main parties are promising extra cash.

:03:51. > :03:53.Quentin Rayner's been looking at the issue of school funding

:03:54. > :04:01.The Government says education spending will reach a record ?42

:04:02. > :04:09.But schools now have to cover the cost of increases

:04:10. > :04:10.in national insurance and pension contributions.

:04:11. > :04:12.The National Audit Office has calculated a shortfall of

:04:13. > :04:23.A cut in real terms of 8% per pupil at a

:04:24. > :04:26.We do what we say and that's about ensuring

:04:27. > :04:27.that all schools can have

:04:28. > :04:29.the funding they need, instead of diverging

:04:30. > :04:33.grammar schools and vanity projects, which is what this Government wants

:04:34. > :04:43.And then you have to add into the mix the proposed National

:04:44. > :04:46.It's designed to ensure that every pupil from a

:04:47. > :04:48.similar background receives the same amount of money.

:04:49. > :04:51.Schools in Derby, for instance, are set to be big

:04:52. > :04:53.gainers, but when you combine the revised formula with those extra

:04:54. > :04:55.costs, by 2020 this school in West Bridgeford

:04:56. > :05:01.As it currently stands, if things proceed as planned, there is a real

:05:02. > :05:03.concern amongst the profession that some schools will go below

:05:04. > :05:09.And I greatly fear that the West Bridgeford

:05:10. > :05:12.The shortfall has been recognised by the

:05:13. > :05:16.Labour has pledged an extra ?6.3 billion for schools in

:05:17. > :05:17.England, as part of a ?25 billion injection

:05:18. > :05:20.into education, paid for by a

:05:21. > :05:23.The Liberal Democrats have promised ?5.8

:05:24. > :05:30.billion for schools funded by a 1% rise in business taxes.

:05:31. > :05:32.While the Conservatives say they'll find an

:05:33. > :05:35.extra ?4 billion, partly funded by scrapping free infant school

:05:36. > :05:46.What this significant investment of an extra ?4 billion means

:05:47. > :05:48.is that as we deliver the National Funding Formula,

:05:49. > :05:51.their budgets reduced as a result of that

:05:52. > :05:54.Our extra ?5.8 billion will triple the early

:05:55. > :05:55.years pupil premium to

:05:56. > :05:58.It will remove the 1% pay cap, keeping

:05:59. > :06:01.the best teachers in the business and extend all the free school meals

:06:02. > :06:04.I'm delighted to see that they're all

:06:05. > :06:07.proposing new money to go on the table for school budgets.

:06:08. > :06:10.As ever, the devil will be in the detail.

:06:11. > :06:12.But when it comes to school budgets, the Institute for

:06:13. > :06:15.Fiscal Studies is warning that what really matters is the effect of

:06:16. > :06:22.A Special Police Constable from Leicester's due in court today

:06:23. > :06:26.SPC Shahib Asan is accused of criminal damage, harassment,

:06:27. > :06:28.intent to pervert the course of justice and possession

:06:29. > :06:30.of a weapon for the discharge of a noxious gas.

:06:31. > :06:35.The offences are alleged to have happened between August 2016

:06:36. > :06:42.The 21-year-old's appearing at Leicester Crown Court.

:06:43. > :06:44.Now, lots of people love trains and railways -

:06:45. > :06:46.some have models or train sets in their houses.

:06:47. > :06:49.But there can't be many who take it one stage further -

:06:50. > :06:51.and build a railway in their back garden!

:06:52. > :06:53.But that's what Bruce Roberts has done in Nottingham.

:06:54. > :07:02.This is George with, behind him, Louise and Lizzie, the carriages.

:07:03. > :07:04.And they're all part of the Waverley Mount railway,

:07:05. > :07:08.named after this house, Waverley Mount, built in 1908.

:07:09. > :07:10.The railway is much younger than that.

:07:11. > :07:14.Bruce, why did you want to build a railway in your garden?

:07:15. > :07:20.And bring a bit of joy to people as well, but when I was very small

:07:21. > :07:23.I used to lie on the carpet watching the trains come past us

:07:24. > :07:26.as close as I could, and try to make them

:07:27. > :07:29.And the opportunity to build a railway in the garden,

:07:30. > :07:32.as big as possible, was something that I always wanted to do.

:07:33. > :07:36.And your wife and daughters have put up with it, but more than that,

:07:37. > :07:42.My wife loves anything mechanical, train-wise,

:07:43. > :07:47.and pumping station-wise, so they all love the trains.

:07:48. > :07:50.You got a steam loco and that's coming along.

:07:51. > :07:57.So, in the workshop at the moment, no boiler certificate because I been

:07:58. > :08:01.And we'll have a lot more on this tonight

:08:02. > :08:12.Now, it's time to take a look at today's weather forecast.

:08:13. > :08:15.Alex, what a beautiful start to the day - will it last?

:08:16. > :08:21.It is lasting for today. We got some beautiful pictures coming in

:08:22. > :08:26.practically wall to wall sunshine. Scorching temperatures in places,

:08:27. > :08:30.too. If we have a look at tomorrow, what a difference a day makes. A

:08:31. > :08:34.yellow weather warning out for rain over the weekend and the potential

:08:35. > :08:38.for some thundery showers. Watch out for spray and standing water on the

:08:39. > :08:41.roads. High-pressure moving out of the way as low pressure moving in.

:08:42. > :08:46.That is what is causing the thundery showers over the next few days. This

:08:47. > :08:50.afternoon, do take extra care because we are expecting higher

:08:51. > :08:57.some cream. Not a cloud in the sky, some cream. Not a cloud in the sky,

:08:58. > :09:01.just a bit of Fairweather cloud holding up by brilliant barbecue

:09:02. > :09:06.weather and highs of 25 degrees. As they go through the cause of tonight

:09:07. > :09:14.will continue to be quite muddy temperatures. Lows of 14. Tomorrow

:09:15. > :09:18.we got this thundery showers still feeling quite muddy tomorrow with

:09:19. > :09:19.highs of around 26 degrees. A warm weekend ahead.
